SDHC refers to an extension to the basic SD specification, allowing higher capacities. Hero supports SDHC upto at least 32GB, going on what I've read. I have an 8GB class 6 card.
Ultra xxx this & that is marketing bull with no standardised meaning in respect of performance. From what I can find via google, the Sandisk Ultra II is either class 2 or 4 (or possibly either depending on exactly which card you have).
The class system is a standardised classification of read/write speeds. Always check a card's class.
Is that card (Sandisk) ok? Depends what you want it for. If you intend to install apps to your card via, say, A2SD, I'd say no. Always get a class 6 for this, but it's a matter of personal choice. The standard doesn't imply this but collective empirical evidence also suggests higher class cards tend to be more reliable.
As to the linked card on play.com, it looks ok. Even the reviews seem reasonable, as long as you aren't inflicted with a broken lock tab a few earlier customers report.
TBH as long as you stick with 8GB class 6, as of the current date, you're at the sweet point for capacity-&-performance : price ratio. I bought one recently - think it was Transcend & about the same price.
OK, I think I'll buy that then. The only reason I want it is because at the moment videos always lag on my 2GB class 2 that came with it.

Micro SDHC
HTC Hero supports Micro SD HC and not the standard SD card. So check that before you buy. Im using Transcend 8GB Micro SDHC Class 6 Ultra. Works like breeze.. Also check 16 GB ones coz the price must hv come down.

As long as the micro as is class 4 or better then you should be ok with what ever you buy but give eBay a miss a lot of faked memory card and memory stick sizes comming from places like China and the like

Just purchased this one myself, waiting for it to be delivered. An 8 GB Class 6 Transcend card came with the purchase of my HD and it's been the best card I've owned so it was an easy choice for me. I wouldn't go cheap on something like this personally, you get what you pay for.
I bought the 16gb class 6 earlier today because my 16gb class 2 is starting to give me and my computer MAJOR problems. Up until now, the card has worked like a dream. I can't wait to see how much faster the class 6 will be like

my card is not transcend but I didn't formatted it when i got it... i just made a restore to defaults and once again installed all of my programs on it.. did you try that?
maybe you should format it with NTFS instead of FAT32?
but i don't understand why you said that you can't flash any ROM? did you try doing that already?
Looks good. Did you try copying 16GB worth of data onto it ? Some of these cards could be fakes and have lower capacity than stated.

by now i have 13,1 GB of data on the card... still haven't filled it to the end
in the SD properties on the phone it says 15185.50 MB of storage availabe... i suppose that that is 16 GB...
I know youre all speed freaks - and youre talking about the class 6 cards...
But i just ordered this one (16GB, Class2, ~22$) (urgh - china product... - i never trust those *g* - but the price is just half of all i've seen before)

it all depends on what do you need it for...
for me class 6 saves me a lot of time because i download approximately 10-20 GB of music a month, and somwhere about 20 GB of movies and tv shows...
so basically i transfer somewhere around 1-4 GB a day from my PC to my card...
true, if you're doing that through the USB or ActiveSync you probably won't see the difference, but i often don't have the time to do that so I use the microSD adapter and transfer it a lot quicker to my sd card than it would be done through the USB or ActiveSync
on the end it all depends on what you're looking for and for what price...

From what I see, don't bother with class 6 16G. I bought one. Testing the speed on sd card is great but once it put it on HD, it's no different than my Class 2 8G. Could have just purchase a Class 2 16G.

the question is not "what is the fastest class 4/6 card" in my eyes.
I bought the HD with the standart 8GB.....class "dont-know"...
of course I thought following:
higher class,bigger card = more expensive than slow and small...
so I tried to find out which card is included....
I found NO information about it. there is nothing to find on the HTC site.
no seriuos information to find on forums...
and nothing "written" on the card itselfe.
so I thought about buying the best and fastet card (testet with real test equipment).....
BUT
because the card-speed is degraded by the hardware you try to read/write....
and there is not a single information to find about what a HTC HD can handle....
(I asked the HTC support and did not get an answer at all)...
I decided to DONT buy another card at all....
I see no advantage to buy the fastes card it the cellphone is not able to use it.
SO : Is there anyone here, how can say that it is worth to buy a class6 card e.g. ??
if : where do you got the information a HD can handle the speed at all ?

i bought the A-Data 16gig Micro SD card with two adaptors class 6 card off ebay for $54.99 and works great in my MyTouch 3g very fast and it has a lifetime warranty on also

I have a Transend 8gb class 6 which has been working great for me for Tom tom etc.
I guess anything like Sandisc, Transend or kingston as long as it is class 4 or above would work fine.
I dont know about Samsung as i only saw them recently, but i checked out the one you linked and it looks good, Class 6 and waterproof! LOl what more could you want!!?
EDIT it looks like the Plus is the difference of class as they also sell a class 4 without the "plus"

Yeah, I have the same transend card, and it's been working great since day one....but after seeing the one jasonchiu linked, I know what kind I'll be buying the next time I need a SDHC card!!
waterproof??? That IS pretty sweet! And that's not out of the price range of most other 8GB class-6 cards, so it sounds like a no-brainer to me!

its not that slow as its not like i am streaming hd video off the card to begin of, it is enough for picture and music and video.

Aren't most memory cards pretty much unaffected by water anyway?
You can put them through the wash and, as long as they don't get broken, they'll be fine.

I'm a little confused. For lots of people here it seems to be important to have a CLASS 4 or CLASS 6 MicroSDHC Card. I am using a Sandisc 8GB Micro SDHC CLASS 2 card eversince for Tomtom, Music and Movies. The card is 90% full and I have never ever experienced any delay or problem of speed.
So, I'm just wondering, why so many people here would want to have a CLASS 4/6 card !?

Speed, my Tilt2 reads my A-DATA Micro SDHC Class 6 much faster than my Sandisk Class 2. While I did not use a stop watch to clock it but the extra speed is very apparent.
I am in the market for a new card ... currently on a sandisk 6gb class4 card I took away from my wife's blackberry. I need to get it back to her ... and right now I am lusting after that new 32gb from Sandisk. But at class2, I'm concerned about speed. I'm sure playing music and running apps wont be an issue, but how about vids? Is there a recommended speed for playing vids from a micro sdhc card?
Yes me too! I've been looking to upgrade my 8gig class 2 to a 16gb. I use it for TomTom, Garmin and some movies.
Well there be any benefit to how fast my Garmin & TomTom load on my phone with a class 6 over 2? I can get a class 2 on newegg for $40 but a cheap class 6 is $60. Is the $20+ more worth it for a class 6? I don't care about the speed it takes to transfer files, I just want my GPS apps to be more responsive loading maps.
My Sandisk Sansa Fuze went through a complete wash cycle by mistake. I popped out the MicroSD card and left it a few days and it worked just fine.
Just make sure anything that has got water on it is powered down by pulling the battery, don't use the power switch. Shut it off ASAP and pop it on the boiler, airing cupboard etc and leave for at least 24-48hrs. Don't be tempted to just give it a quick power up as that is when you fry the circuit board.

Well for some things, a higher class works a lot better. An example of that is how when trying to run anroid on my low class 1G card, it wouldn't even boot. It kept timing out. So yes, it does matter for some things.
just get a class 6 sdhc. its really faster in all belongings. which brand - i think anyone of the well known brands is ok.
when it is going over 8GB in size you dont have much a choose of brands because there a only very very few comapnys who have a large class 6 sdhc micro sdcard

am using class 6 works fine.
I use an 8Gb, class 4 without any issues. Resco is installed on the card.
Although if your going to flash a ROM from a micro SD card use one < 8Gb.

From my experience, it's not the class or size that matters. It's the make. (Obviously a smaller card with a higher class will have faster r/w speeds, but that's not usually a noticeable issue.)
I never buy any SD cards now that are not SanDisk, and I can't remember the last time I had one that didn't work.
Some brands seem to get a lot of complaints.
The class wouldn't really matter if you're just using it to store data/apps.
I use a Nokia N900 and run Android off the SD card. A higher class gives a better speed when running an O/S off of one. But using one to store data/apps wouldn't give a noticable advantage of one class than another.
Obviously the size does matter but depends on what you'll use it for.
Plus for flashing use < 8Gb.

PS. I agree with the brands. I don't buy cheap non-branded ones. Although I've never had an issue with any of the 'cheap' ones.
The size of the card depends on your needs. If you cram a lot of stuff in there or apps, then aim for 16gb or 32gb.
You can find 32gb on amazon from $70 up (sandisk, kingston, dane elec -- those are deem legit 32gb cards) and most of them should give real class 4 performance (even when they're listed as class 2 like sandisk).
For me I like San Disk,but I want to test Toshiba 16GB Class4.The seller told me that Toshiba quality is good also and I decided to buy it.
Never had any problem with file transfer and running android on SD card.
I've used it 4 months now.So far so good.
I use a kingston 8gb class 4.. Never had any issues with performance

As for Apps depends what I come across. For WM I have an old large build of offline Wikipedia and some dictionaries etc.

I had my 8GB SanDisk in my G1 for 2 years, then my HD2 for about 8 months, then randomly one day it stopped working.
If I plugged it in, all of my content appeared on the phone such as pictures. Then after about 30 seconds it would freeze, and then the phone would say no SD card is inserted. I managed to copy all of my pictures across on the PC luckily before it froze.
Granted it was old - but they do fail after a while.
I am going to buy the 32 gb Prime (with keyboard) and have been researching memory card options. I am leaning towards the following:
1. Lexar High Speed microsd 32gb Class 10 (for the device)
2. Sandisk Extreme SDHC 32gb class 10 (for the docking station)
I will use this to watch movies, play music, surf the web, take notes, use apps, and play emulators.
My only concern is I've heard the class 10's have trouble with speeds on smaller files/apps/programs. Will that be an issue? Or will these two cards be a good setup?

with smaller files (a few data blocks in size) you have as many writes to the file system management space as you do data block writes.
with large files there are much fewer writes proportionately which is why large files have higher throughput.

I went with a 32gb class 10 pny micro sd from newegg. It was 47.99 and I finally tested it last week. Wrote video/music files at 11.5-12mb/sec. Some of the other class 10s had reviews claiming they only wrote at class 4 speeds. I can't stand how slow my class 4 16gb in my phone us...

You might want to give this a read.
I'd also suggest getting SD cards from a source with a good exchange policy. The speeds can fluctuate wildly within a class and even from idenetical cards from the same manufacturer.
So, what ever cards you get, test them and if not-acceptable, exchange them.
I stated this in the "Ultimate Accessory" thread. But I'm going to say it here to.
Don't buy the Patriot MicroSD 32GB Class 10. It's awful and I'm not the only one stating this. It used to be $100+ (I bought it when it first came out), but now it's like $40 because people realized how crappy they are. Speed throughput was never the problem, but they randomly corrupt and when it DOES happen, it's bad. Mine corrupted on me 3 times in only a few months. Each time I was lucky to have had a backup (Ti Media Sync) and managed to save just about everything. The first time I lost a lot of pictures that hadn't backed up yet.
Anyway, the corruption doesn't come from using USB or anything. Everytime mine randomly corrupted, I was using it away from a computer or charger. First time I was watching a video off the card (admittedly porn) and the second time I was taking a picture. Third time I don't know because the phone was in my pocket in standby and when I pulled my phone out to show someone a pic from the phone it wasn't there, along with the rest of the stuff that was on the SD. Oh, and the first time this happened was on my Nexus One, not my Sensation.
Anyway, I replaced it with the Samsung 32GB Class 10 (bought it for just over $80) and it's been rock solid so far (2 months in). Speeds are pretty much identical to the Patriots. I use "Boot Manager" and dual boot a couple different ROMs off it, and they all fly.
Just wanted to give you guys a heads up.
I went "cheap" on a class 4 Transcend 32GB for both my photon and my upcoming Transformer Prime.
In actual copies, I was seeing in the 6-7 MB range so I won't complain.
I purchased the ADATA 32GB Class 10 from NewEgg and it works wonderfully. I haven't done any testing beyond copying 4GB of video files to it, which copied at a rock solid 17MB/s! I'm impressed needless to say.

Could you run a crystalmark benchmark on your card(s).
If the transcend random 4k R/W speeds are decent, that may be the ticket for me.

6mb/second was not on random writes, it was on bulk copies of mp3 files for the phone

no problem, and no real hurry (since like others in the holding pattern to actually get a prime).
My wife's xmas gift of a new camera is getting a SanDisk 32gb class 10 "extreme" (SDSDRX3-032G-A21) that I plan on running crystalmark tests on next week.
I might even hold off getting a micro sd until 64gb cards drop closer to $100 ... (e.g SDSDQY-064G-A11A might be killer at ~$100)

I was also wondering this. Will there be any difference in watching a video file (1080p) between class 4 or 10?
Large video files will be skewed towards the sequential mode -- which tested @ 20MB per second. That's 160Mbits / second.
In theory, this class 4 card could playback a maximum bit-rate blu-ray iso without a problem. Blu-ray maximum bit rate is 48 Mbits (or 6 MBytes) / second.

Unless you are recording HD video to the SD card, class 10 is a BIG waste of money. The class only refers to the write speed, NOT the read speed. If you are just loading videos or music onto the SD card, then even class 2 will be fine. It may take you longer to load the original files to the card, but it is NOT going to be slower in reading the data compared to class 10.
These class ratings are really needed for HD video camcorders and high FPS (frame per second) cameras that demand high bit rate & speeds. I use a 6 for 720p video on my nikon dslr and for 4-6 fps 14 megapixel shots, but class 2/4 for my phone/tablets where it is just used to store movies, songs, pictures, etc...
I just picked up 2 Samsung class 10 32gb Sd cards from fry for $35 a piece. I think it was a wise decision and will help me out in the future. I know it's overkill but I think for that price it was worth it. So now my Prime will have 96gb of storage when I hook up my dock. That is truly overkill as well, but who knows when I might need all of it lol.
After a huge thread I read here about classes, I changed my mind and went with a class 4 for the Prime (was thinking I mist get a class 10). I picked a Transcend 32gb class 4 off of Amazon for $33 delivered.
So I'm looking to upgrade from my 4 gig Kingston microSD card to something bigger in preparation for CM7 and other things that should give the NT more capabilities in the future. I tend to use memory rather heavily: listening to high bit rate music, downloading lots of apps, and lots of games (especially RPG ROMs). So here's a couple questions I have:
At what memory range should I be looking? Is 32gb overkill?
Is there any brand that I should stay away from, or any that I should prefer?
Are the rates between a Class 4 and, say, a Class 6 SD noticeable?
What places are known to offer some good deals on SD cards?
Should I not even worry about more memory because of the NT's internal memory capacity?
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated.

Personally I got a sandisk 32, mainly because I am about to travel so wanted the space for movies photos etc
id get the bigger one. its better to have alotta space available, then be saying in a month "darn, not enough space for this app". better to have alot of free space then have, just a smidge too little
plus if you have alot of apps it will make your back ups larger.
a bigger card would mean your could keep a couple back ups on deck.
Get a 32Gb Sandisk class 4. I didn't get a 64Gb because its way too expensive.
More room for stuff is always better.

And, you would want a card with a higher class (i.e. class 10) for viewing movies, listening to high quality music, or running an os from your sd card.

I would go with the 32GB if price is not an issue.. you can never have too much room.
Make sure you buy from a reputable place.. fake cards are common on ebay and can be problematic in both performance and capacity. I usually stick with Sandisk or Kingston for brand but i'm sure there are other good ones... these are just the ones i have had success using.
I have both class 4 and class 6 cards and haven't really noticed any difference.

Transcend has also proved to be a very reputable brand. Amazon brand cards are also good.

The class system only sets the write speed, if you look at the link I provided you will see a higher class cards is not always better for everyday use. Especially if you plan on running your os off it.
i have a 32gb sandisk class 4 in my NT. not sure what i had been loading in but now i am left with 10gb only. haha.

I purchased it about a week after I got my NT. So I've had it since the beginning of January. Not that long to really determine the longevity of it. Pretty good reviews overall on Amazon.
Do you know of any good apps to test out the card? I could run them and get you the results.

I bought a 32GB class 4 Team MicroSD. No complaints thus far. Speeds as reported by SD tools;
Write: 4.7MB/s
Read: 18.1MB/s
The nook write cache is really crippled. It's set to 128KB.
Here's my performance with the AmazonBasics 16GB class 10 at various cache settings:

Read: 18MB
Write: 5.6MB
1024KB
Read: 18MB
Write: 14.3MB
2048KB
Read: 18.4MB
Write: 14.6MB
3072KB
Read: 18.8MB
Write: 14.6MB

Read: 18.1MB

I'll probably stick to 1024KB to speed up smaller writes.

I use NT with Transcend 16GB for last 2 weeks. No problem.
Some high speeed (class 10) cards don't work with old Motorola smartphones, e.g. Milestone XT720.
