got a streak as a gift a month ago - tried to update from stock 1.6 to 2.2 using guide on streaksmart.com - didnt work. now streak is bricked. no lights, nothing. looked all over online for days now and the furthest ive got is to try to access the quallcomm chip from the laptop but i cant, and i cant run the driver on it either, as told in the bricked streak pdf by ryrules. called dell and they cant help w/o acct name that purchased device - which i cant get (but thats a whole other story). cant even get a charge from what i can tell, qdl tool cant detect usb streak. im able to admit im out of my depth on this one - can anyone out there help?
If it helps, the dell streak service tag should be on the back of the phone when you remove the battery cover.
I phoned Dell today and they are picking up my streak for repair, no charge. And im not the first owner of the device either. Got mine from ebay. All they did was get me to boot into recovery, and try a factory reset. when it didnt complete, they just said they will fix it, for free thankfully.
I tried that - they won't transfer the device to my name w/o verification of original purchaser account name - and won't be able to issue a new free replacement w/o it. Not only do I not have that info, I might not ever be able to get it. thank you for the idea though.

Texas, but I think I could maybe fix it if someone had the right step by step instruction I could follow. Is there another program besides the qdl that can help?
What version of windows are you using. I had a very hard time with windows 7 but took me like 20 minutes from start to finish with a windows XP.

now what?
That happened on my 1st attempt using QDL. Just unplug Streak, remove battery for @ least 1 minute, place battery & cover back on, hold the button closest to the headphone port while @ same time plugging cable back into Streak, then run again. 2nd time did everything for me. My computer did flash something about drivers installed successfully after the 1st fail, so maybe it installed what was missing. If this doesn't work, use a different USB port.

yes, i did but when i try to update the android adb interface under device manager on my laptop by directing the driver update screen manually to C:\dell\drivers\R288920\Win7 i get an error msg that says
windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device
windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it
the device cannot start (code 10)
seems to be a pattern im stuck in, i cant make it past here yet.
Nm - fixed it w help from irc #dellstreak - had to end up using 2 different qdl tools, but in the end - after a week long struggle w a bricked streak it finally came back on, with 2.2
Please help!!!!

Dont know if you still have this problem, but I transferred registration/ownership to myself on the dell site. It just asks for your details and service tag. Which coincidentally is shown under About Phone, status at the bottom.

I ended up getting it all fixed up with a lot of help on irc. Meralias got me through the last parts, correct drivers and qdl. Then I had beta froyo, which I updated to official. Yesterday I finally got brave enough to try flashing one of dj steve s. glad I did.

Please forgive me if I've missed a post somewhere, I've been searching for weeks for an answer to my problem and I still don't see one (similar cases, but either a-no answer or b-solution for another problem).
Computers:
A Windows 7 (32-bit) system and a Windows XP (32-bit) system.
Phone:
Samsung Vibrant SGH-T959
Firmware Version: 2.2
Baseband Version: T959UVJL5
Kernel Version: 2.6.32.9
Build Number: Nero.v3
Description of Problem:
When I plug my phone into either or my two computers the following occurs - My phone recognizes that it is plugged in and begins charging; my computers do nothing.
When I was on Android 2.1 I could plug my phone into either of my two systems and my PCs would respond appropriately (ie. show the drive letters and let me access the device once I mounted the device).
Since the very first Android 2.2 install my computers act like nothing is happening. ADB doesn't see my phone, Odin is silent, and Windows doesn't show any drive letters nor does it even show that I am plugging in a USB device.
I have tried to correct this by changing the USB settings on the phone (Kies, Media Player, Mass storage, Ask on connection) and even trying to connect while in debug mode. Sadly, I never made a nandroid backup to take me back to the Android 2.1 install (idiot me took the plunge before reading up on that section).
I don't understand what would cause my phone to be treated as if it wasn't there. I've tried different USB ports, different MicroUSB cables, and even uninstalling/reinstalling the various device drivers for the phone.
I can get into download mode just fine, but what's the point if Odin can't see the phone since Windows thinks that nothing is there? Before you ask, yes, I tried going into download mode before starting Odin as well as after starting Odin; debug mode on and debug mode off. I've been trying all the combinations.
If anybody has any information beyond what is in the stickies, I would greatly appreciate it!
Do you see "USB connected" in notification bar on the phone? You can also turn on USB debugging mode in USB settings. If you see "USB connect" in pull down notification bar..tap on that and it will mount on your computer.
I experienced similar problem with.axura tool...phone well charge but doesn't pop out the mount notification. I power off both my phone and computer and it work again. I'm sure this won't on your scenario but just wanna inform you that it's not all hopeless...good luck
Yes. I have seen the mount USB bar. Bad news: even after it says mounted, the PCs react as if nothing has happened.

First of all, read this forum (last post is mine) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=925393 - make sure you have kies or kies mini installed so that you have the correct drivers on your computer for your vibrant.
secondly, team whiskey has developed a fix for the mount issue your experiencing: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846384&highlight=mount+fix
they also have the mount problem fixed in the later nero roms... should not be an issue. please let me know if this helps!

This same thing happened to me and to fix this problem all I did was install the drivers I got online, PM me your email and ill send you the drivers
I am almost certain that it is drivers issue more than your phone or any rom. You need to completely uninstall current drivers..all traces of em, reboot and install drivers from samsung website or there are some here in vibrant section also. It happened to me couple of times where one set of drivers stopped working for no reason and i had to try couple of different ones.
I had the same problem. Phone would charge but not connect. I solved it by getting a new usb cable. I just use the bad one for charging now
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
This is a driver problem. Your computer does not have the phone drivers and is confused on what to make of your phone so it finally decides that it is a charging device more or less and will not mount it, EVEN if you select mount from your phone options.
Please look on this forum or ask the guy who posted before for the Samsung USB drivers. Install them on your computer and then mounting the phone from the notification bar will work.
Hope that helps and feel free to ask again if you are stuck on the process.
I thought it was a driver issue as well until last week.
My coworker has the same model phone and is currently running 2.2.
He has his laptop (Windows XP) setup to handle his phone.
When he plugs his equipment in, everything works. When he plugs my phone in, same old story...
Even when trying different MicroUSB cables.
This is why I'm considering loading up a different/modified kernel.

My vibrant got soft bricked yesterday, I am able to get it into download mode and I have ODIN all lines up to revert to stock, but windows 7 64bit says USB device not recognized. I have tried everything to get it to read. I have tried installing every driver i could get my hand on and i just cannot get the computer to recgnize my phone! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have the exact same problem. I updated my Vibrant using Kies Mini for windows 7 64bit. After the installation, my phone restarted, the welcome logo and S came up. After that the screen went black and it vibrated every 5 seconds. The 4 touch controls lit up if i touched them and they stayed lit.
I got into recovery mode and clear all data and format my microUSB as well but it wouldn't solve the problem.
I got into download mode but my Windows said USB device not recognized CODE 43. I tried to manually install Samsung Android USB driver but I got error code 10.
so I couldn't ODIN it back.
Can anyone help?
You're both sure you're using the right Odin (for 64)?
This is weird.
I Just tried again today and my computer recognized it instantly. I was able to flash to stock 2.1
What I did was insert my sim card in the phone today. Yesterday I didn't put my sim card in.
Another way to do it I've realized is to try to use a computer with xp on it and odin 1.7 (I believe). The newer windows vista, 7, etc. Are a lot more picky and difficult to work with sometimes.

Make sure you installed the Samsung driver that is for 64 bit.
Then, make sure you have admin rights, sometimes depending on how the computer was set up you may not be high enough on the root directory. This is especially true when one family is using the same computer and all have their own personal account/profile. If both of those things are ok and you are sure, Then:
Install this This is what i am using on my win7 64 pro i know it works. So, if this does not work then I would guess it is your users rights you haven't resolved yet.
Good luck
Yeah I tried 3 different computers. 2 with xp and the original one in my post, nothing worked. I figured i was screwed so i just went to use the insurance i had on it but they wouldn't let me because it isn't broken lost or stolen. They told me to contact tmobile. So I did. I went onto tmobile.com and chatted with someone who had me try to get it into the recovery screen that a previous poster said he was able to do but i couldn't get into it so he said we could exchange it. I gave him all the info and he sent one out.

I've done the same with my phone. Talked to a TMobile rep, they diagnosed it as a USB port issue. New phone on the way.
I had the same issue on my computer with any of my USB 2.0 ports. Thought what the hell, I'll try plugging into my USB 3.0 port and BAM! It worked.
Hi everyone, sorry I have read and tried so many different things on this forum I'm in need of more advanced help... someone that can spare a little time... (I burned out the mother board in my vibrant, got a new one out of another vibrant that was working) it is on Froyo v2.2 android no root... cant get it to connect to the computer says "new device not recognized" goes into installing and everything fails... I have my own USB ports downloaded I have installed both 64bit and 32bit... I'm on Windows 7 home premium 64bit OS I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and tried to let windows update install the driver... can someone else help me with this I would like to odin back to stock.. Thanks and hope to hear back soon!
PS
i have been flashing roms on my phone since 2010 i somewhat know what im doing but never had this problem occur before...

Just to clarify, a usb port is the slot on your pc that you actually plug your usb cable into. Usb drivers are what you downloaded.Try running odin as administrator and use a different usb port on your pc. Odin can be tricky sometimes, give it a couple more tries.

thread that I found : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=798020
Hi, I have asked this question few months ago but i couldn't get the answer and also, somehow I couldn't login so I have made the account again and I have been searching around to find out the answer for my problem but I couldn't
I have few questions/issues.
I have Galaxy S3 (GT-9300). I have brought in it New Zealand but it was unlocked phone. So when I did was installing the omega rom, I found out that the rom it had was the rom from one of the europe countries (I can't remember)
I was wondering if I can install any GT-9300 stock rom to get back to stock rom phone or do I somehow have to find out which stock rom it had before?
The other question is that I was trying to reinstall and update the omega rom from the scratch by going to stock rom then installing the latest omega rom. But my phone somehow won't connect to the PC, it charges properly and I know its not the computer or cable 's problem. I have searched and searched on google but couldn't find any solution to resolve that. (Tried different versions of Kies, tried removing everything turning off the phone and restarting, tried to changed to tfs(?) mode and other stuff)
Because of that, I can't use Odin to change Roms or anything. Is there anything I can do to resolve this problem or changing Roms without connecting to the computer?
Currently, I have Omega v54.
Thank you so much
Go read the sticky thread in general forum, how to return to stock.
You can use any firmware for the i9300 but best is the latest for your country.
Sorry but the main problem is that my phone is not getting recognized by the computer so i cant use Odin to do that. Please read the whole contents
Try different versions of drivers.
Sent from my GT-I9300
What do you mean by different drivers?
I have tried all the USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 slots on my pc
but no luck.
The message i am getting is ' USB Device Not Recognized' 'One of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it. For assistance in solving this problem, click this message'
You have skipped several steps in the learning process. Go read the sticky thread in general forum, you'll need the correct Samsung drivers to connect your pc with Odin.
I did that while ago, and did that again this morning. uninstalled kies, installed latest Samsung USB driver. but exactly same as before.
same usb error message. and on the device manager, it shows up as unknown device.
another thing I found is that on *#7284# (Service mode) I can only find UART : MODEM, PDA USB: MODEM, PDA. (I have tried this with USB debug mode)
Kies stops Odin from working
Sorry I think you are keep saying the same thing but I DO NOT HAVE Kies. didn't have it for at least 4 months now.
and its the problem with connection to the PC more than going back to stock rom.
Need to resolve the connection problem first to do the Odin step.
please read the messages properly before reply.

Then it's something wrong either with usb cable, usb port(on Pc) or ,most likely, micro usb on your phone.
When you insert usb cable into micro usb port, try jerking it up and down, left and right but gently and listen will it make connection for a second,at least.
