Which 2.1 release??? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi people
I have got to breaking point with HTC and there update 2.1
I'm looking to install one of the Developed 2.1 release but which one should in install, there are so many. I want something stable and not buggy.
can anyone recommend me a release.
thanks j

It all comes down to personal preference but I would say that VillainRom is probably the most feature rich and is defiantly the most stable 2.1 rom there is.

One of the most stable indeed, only lacks .3gp playback but nonetheless a very nice rom!

you cab try sense hero its made from villoin.. quite nice... I have using it more around 1 week

Hands down winner for me is SenseHero 2.1
Looking forward to a fully functional Chpobus too though

sorry for the threadjacking, but i have a simular question, what 2.1 rom has support for other locale than english.
I know that the latest villain doesn't have it.

Any rom not based on the american CDMA leak should have more languages.

yo, i have to say villian rom 5.4 by far! most stable and is pretty quick! and best of all.... OTA updates! by far the best i have ever used. and the theme tht come on it is pretty slick. so i would highly recomend villian rom 5.4. and if thats not your thing try some other roms by ngprussel (spelled something like that) cus hes the best rom maker in my opinion.

thanks for the help i just downloaded 5.4 villian rom. installing do i just download and rename zip file to update??? im having a problem installing im getting a E:Failure at line 392:copy_dir PACKAGE:data DATA:

try to recopy it to your SD card, if that doesn't work download it again...it sounds like your .zip file may be corrupt. no need to rename it.

fixed it i didn't do a clean wipe, i have been playing with villian 5.4 release but i cannot change the lock screen wallpaper, anyone got a fix?????

When you find an answer,, PLEASE PM ME AND LET ME KNOW !!!!!....
haha okay...theres sooo many threads...i cant seem to find one i like...
i mean first theres one with 2.1 then it has a whole lot of bugs...i cant make up my mind!!!
i think sensehero is the best.it is 1.5,i have been using it for a few days now and it's amazing!fast, stable and it looks great!you can find it here,http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=637064
but i think that developer has it's own forum now so you have to download it from there!
but its 1.5...isnt 2.1 the latest and greatest and fastest ??
yeah it is,but developers are still waiting for the official hero 2.1 rom that should be out in a few days now...i tried most of the 2.1 roms and none of them has everything you would want...so you should be patient for a few days more till the REAL thing comes out...
thats bad. i thout 2.1 was released fr htc hero!! whats the delay?
i don't know..i think the next date for release is april 16th..we have to wait and see..

why not ?????
If you want a 1.5 based rom personally I like modaco... sensehero is pretty much the same thing but I dont like the blue colour much...
If you are looking for a 2.1 based for me I have found the Villain SprintHero port rom to be the best and fastest overall ...
between that category the competition would be between Villain Sprint and BeLegendary 1.3.5...
i see...and what if i flash my hero with the cyanogen 5.0 rom thats designd fr the nexus one?? will it work of will i brick my fone??
Just don't do it. It won't work.
If you want a ROM similar to the Nexus One, try Androbin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=651103
If you're looking for a decent 2.1 rom, try VillainRom. I use it and have no complaints so far.
It's not as stable as some ROMs, but it's pretty fast and has great features. Having said that, a lot of people use HeroDroid as it's far more stable apparently, but doesn't have things like Live Wallpapers. I have had no issues with VillainRom, however.

does the modaco rom have the same problem ??
If you want a beautiful, fast, and stable ROM, try the SenseHero (I always restore it after trying any 2.1)
If you want features: Villain 5.x or Legendroid ; )

[Q] Best rom for HTC HERO!

Hy everybody. I just bought a Htc Hero and I`m wondering wich is the best rom to put on it? thanks
It depends what you're looking for really.
VillainROM 13 is like stock, has HTC Sense, but quick, like very quick!
My personal favourite is RCMix 2.2. It is a Sense ROM but has a few nice visual tweaks.
And there's Cyanogen. They've recently dropped support for the Hero, but the nightly releases aren't too bad.
Basically just try as many as possible and see how you get on with them.
I would like to know which one is the most stable, without any bugs, fastest etc.
I have installed Villainrom v13. It's really fast, but I think there is a bug, because my battery drains empty in 6-12 hours, when on my original ROM it held for 24-30 hours.
Hi
Hello I am wondering the same thing. I have installed a 2.3 version and I am not that happy although some things are better everytime I go to the home screen it has to load which never happened with my stock 2.1 Orange rom.
Anyone can recommend a ver stable and fast rom would be much appreciated?

Hi! I looked into the VillainROM 13 but its only Android 2.1 I really need 2.2 for app2sd and also sharepoint. Do you have a link to the other roms you recommended? And are they easy to install with rom manager and the recovery software that comeswith that?
Thanks mate
Yes, we are newbees on Android and we need your opinions.I have now on my phone Android version 2.3.2, tasty version gingerbread 2.0, kernel version 2.6.29.6-RaKern-200 [email protected] #14, Baseband version 63.18.55.06pu_6.35.15.11. IS THIS A GOOD ROM? What are his advantages and disadvantages? Thanks everybody in advance & sorry for my bad english
I've tried a few ROM's. I've got backups of Villain13, Elelinux 7, and Floyo.
At the moment, for daily use I'm on Floyo 1.2. I have been using Elelinux, and in general it's a nice ROM but the black screen bug that you have probably heard about is rather annoying. Hopefully with the discussions between Erasmux and Elelinux they will come up with an idea to get Cyanogen Hero dev back under-way.
But for day-to-day use I'd go Floyo 1.2. You can flash a gingerbread theme if you really have to. I find its rock solid and the kernel can be overclocked via flashing.
Also, Apps2SD is supported (old fashioned style). If you have a fast SD card, why bother with the Google version?
Good luck, and if there is any help I can offer....
Tbh if you want a fast stable driver, that you'll use daily then i'd use VR13. Froyo and Gingerbread have never been officially released for Hero so using Rom's based on these android versions means you will encounter a few bugs and some lag. If you really need App2SD then you could use dark tremor's script which will install it for you. I'm gonna post up my own 2.1 rom which will have App2SD enabled if you wanna try it. But from experience of nearly every hero rom available on xda, VR13 is the best.
Thanks JieHD, could you plese tell me were I can foun this rom, and a quick guide to intall it om my Hero? Thanks in advance
TBH i've never had lag on Floyo, or any other problem for that matter. The only thing is you don't get the HTC add-ons.
VR13 is good, but I do miss Friendstream. Been using the one out of Launcher Pro.... Each to their own.....
My advice, flash one, try it for a while. Do a full backup in Rom Manager. Then flash another.... But beware, you will become addicted to flashing (ROM's that is).
As I said earlier, I keep a few on my SD card. So easy to restore in Rom Manager...
Anybody could tell me how to install a new rom on my Hero and how to get rid of the old one?

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23463603/JieeHD's_Hero_Litev1.zip
should be up soon, to install:
1. Boot into rcovery
2. wipe data
3. wipe cache ( if you use it )
4. wipe dalvik-cache ( this is in advanced options if you use cwm )
5. install rom from sd card
6. reboot, should take about minutes
As a side note, just for a nicer user experience -- download spare parts+ frm market and set windows animation to fast and transition animations to fast. and tick fancy input animations
I will lose my apps and data on my phone? How can I backup them?
use titanium backup from the market
If you tried out my rom, tell me what you think

i was tested a lot of roms and finally my favourite rom is VILLAINROM V.13 because is soo STABLE (IMPORTANT),works fast...,and the most important for me: has sense widgets for drain battery i´m ussing flykernel 12a with O/C, SETCPU at 514 mhz conservative.(battery drains empty in 24 hours more or less)...
if there was some froyo rom with sense and working camera It would be brilliant because chocolate froyo for example works well

Tried it this morning, was nice a smooth, just the icons were not to my taste, if I get some spare time over the weekend I'll knock up an alternative framework, being elderly I find the circle battery meters hard to read when they have numbers in the middle, or that could just be this mornings hangover

Clean Gingerbread Rom for Hero?

Hi, I was just wondering if there was a clean Gingerbread rom for Hero. One that would technically just be the Stock Gingerbread, without any visual modifications.
Other modifications wouldn't bother me, though I'd like to have a fresh rom to customize myself.
Thanks.
You may try Elelinux Gingerbread ROM here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=932377
it is quiet stable for daily use, customized but you still can get the stock feel in a theme included in that ROM

There is also a script for that ROM to clean out a lot of stuff and make it as light and standard as can be. Just scroll down the first post to get the script.
Cronos is quite stockish as well. CM is an option too.
i like the elelinux GB rom best fast stable and clean wit the lite version script

Creating my own rom.

I have been very adventurous to have rooted my HTC Legend and been using Blay0 rom since then. But since B 0.8.4, it was been all bugs for me and my pc manage to corrupt my b 0.7.zip.
If anyone of you out there still have b 0.7, i would be glad if you could email it to me.
That said, i am thinking of just doing one rom for myself. I am thinking of just taking a stock Froyo and adding a2sd to it and maybe some other feature i can find online. How would i begin? I mean like, can i just take the stock rom from HTC and add darktremor a2sd into it?
EDIT: was just searching around the forum and i came up to this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=633246
Is that enough for me to do what i want to do?
Yes if you use dsixda kitchen you can do all that, But why?? Blayo's is so good and has all the tweaks one would need!? I had the same plan and created a 2.2 Espresso ROM but never released it as blayo's is soo good!
Anyway if you want to use something as a base then i have the latest Legend update rooted in update.zip format HERE feel free to use and abuse
Hi, i love blayo rom so so much but since i upgrade to 0.8.4, it has been unstable for me. And so happened my b 0.7.zip got corrupted and i couldn't downgrade. Now i'm on the stock froyo without any tweaks but i'm still missing blayo 0.7 rom with trackball awake cpu tweaks and so on...
Hey buddy,here is a link for b-0.7. I had same issues with 0.8 so i'm using 0.7.

OMG! I'm so glad u have it! Thanks mate, thanks so much. Yeah b 0.8 has issues for me... even 0.8.4... After using the rom awhile, when ever i long press the lock button for the menu, it restarts my phone. Therefore the only way to OFF my phone is to remove the battery.

[Q] What's the best ?

I got my Galaxy ace a half year ago .. and I tested nearly every rom / mod & theme .
but I am quite searching for a rom that has the best performance, the best speed and it should be very stable - without lags. It don't need to be themed - it can look like a stock rom.
Thx for your help xda-team ♥
Choose stock....like me, i know there will be more comment after me saying custom is better (of coz, they made it)
But until now no custom rom is stable...
I use stock wxks6 then convert to ext4, plus...cf-root kernel and lagfreeV2 script....all working well.
Owh, and now using miui launcher...cool

oh nice thank you for now . . . i will check that out
After having tried many.
The Rom custom of the TheMyth (devilsking) are the best.
always the same functionality as stock.
ICS Final hands down. After flashing some other roms and looking around, this rom is by far the most stable and fastest I've tried. Never had any problems with the rom and I've been using it ever since the Final version came out. The only problems I've had are with random apps and such, never with the rom itself. Got a champion right there ;D
Highly recommend it.
