I hate for this to be my first post in these forums but I have no idea what Ive done and I am calling out for help! lol
ok, I have a telus HTC Hero where I had to do the gold card in order to downgrade the ROM to root it properly. Everything was going well, I downloaded the RUU and started running it from windows like the tutorial stated then all of a sudden it unmounted and now my phone is stuck on a white screen with 3 skateboarding android guys and the following info:
HERO CVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.76.0007 (HERO13000)
MICROP-010F
TOUCH PANEL-SYN0104
RADIO-6.35.08.20

RUU USB
I cant even turn off the phone or anything and Im afraid to pull the battery. is there anything I can do in this situation at all?
Thanks
Is it defiantly a GSM Hero yeah?
I had the same issue when trying to downgrade mine using Win7 64bit, also heard of people having problems using Vista 64 or 32 bit.
I pulled my battery out and started again using an XP machine.
AS FAR AS I KNOW,.... It is ok to pull your battery if it freezes during ROM flashing but not when updating radios. I take no responsibility if the shizzle hits the fan.
.... and make sure your USB cable is in tight at both ends.
yea, its a GSM hero.
OK, I just pulled the battery and its going back into the OS.
****, I almost **** my pants on that one.
and btw, it is win7 64bit. maybe Ill wait till I get home from work and attempt this part from my dads xp laptop.
thanks
Phew!!!
Yeah definitely recommend using an XP machine. Good luck mate.

All you need to do is install the My HTC driver when you're on that screen and run the exe again...

Dammit Dammit Dammit! lol I have had the Dev preview on another SSD since the day it launched, and guess what happens? My Win7 Ultimate SSD crashed, so I feel all high and mighty I start diving into Win8 for real instead of just playing around and BAM Moto Drivers don't work with Win8 yet because they "Don't recognize the OS". My computer basically told me to get ****ed and that I can't root my brothers phone. I refuse to go back to Win7, guess I will go play on someone else computer!
Just thought I would give you guys a heads up, in case you wanted to migrate onto the Dev Preview or an Alpha/Beta. This is where it stands right now.
Windows 8 Dev Preview has Windows 7 compatibility mode... Right click the installer and set them to install that way. Let us know if that works....
Nope, I had tried that already.
Damn.... That's a pretty crappy bro... I tried it out on a spare HDD I had for a few days and the whole Metro interface being designed for a touch screen device just got cumbersome and I only tried installing some basic stuff like office, chrome, skype, and other things like that....
Most software works(even processor intensive CAD/Revit, Adobe CS5 products), and I rarely even see the Metro UI, I don't use it for anything. I just have my desktop extended across both screens.
True... I have an old dell lappy I might throw it on there and play with it some more.... Maybe that will make it heat up less....
I had to revert back to Windows 7 (no big deal) because I had trouble SBFing in Windows 8.

Yea, for the same reason, lol. I am not too worried though. I am upgrading to the ReZound on Monday. But, I thought I would post this. I am sure there is someone smart enough to adapt the drivers, or knows another way we are not thinking of.
Could probably always partion the drive and have 7 or xp on another partition...
Hopefully this will be fixed when they decide to release Windows 8.

I have 4 500GB HDD's 1 1TB HDD and 2 256GB SSD's. I have plenty of space for Win7, but after being on Windows 8 there is no going back. Not to mention I don't want to set up an entire system just to root a phone I will only have for 3 more days
I was thinking about trying that other root method because it doesn't say anything about drivers, although, that might just be an obvious given. We will see, and I will let you guys know probably tomorrow. I am a Veteran, got things to do today that don't involve sitting in front of a computer lol.
BTW, Happy Veteran's Day to my fellow Brothers-in-Arms and Veterans alike! RLTW!
No Bueno...
I found elsewhere on the net a solution to windows 8 problem...
Extract the usb drivers from the motorola's driver MSI using Uniextract to a easy to find folder, then go into device manager and find the 'unknown usb device' and manually update drivers by pointing to the drivers you just extracted. Hope all that makes sense....
I should note that while this method has gotten me farther than I had previously, and allowed RSDlite to work SBF'ing my phone back to stock, but it seems ADB doesn't want to play nicely with windows 8. I've tried windows compatability mode, run as admin. no luck so far.
I don't have much of a clue of what I'm talking about but maybe its worth a shot...what if you ran a virtual of 7 inside of 8? Would you be able to use the drivers that way?
Sorry if I woke an older thread. Just curious..
We condemn you to xda hell

Hey everyone. My evo was htc unlocked, but i wanted to get it s-off. so i used to the lazypanda method...and everything was working great. when i reached the 30 second part, i patiently waited 30 seconds, but it kept going. it went all the way to about 900 until i ended the program and did it again. it couldnt detect the device, and now i cant get my evo to turn on. help please!
UPDATE: My worries are over! My phone was indeed bricked, so I installed Linux on my Mac to use the unbrick tool. It was easy to do, but kind of a pain as well. Those who are having trouble and need instructions to unbrick...you've come to the right place Instructions will come shortly.
1. If you're absolutely positive that you are bricked...simply install Linux (Ubuntu) on your Mac or PC. A virtual machine will not work! You must use a CD or USB stick.
2. Once you have installed Linux, download
No Power <> Bricked

I don't see the connection between "it won't power up" and being bricked. Are you sure you had/have good power, i.e., plenty of battery left. If you are sure the battery is charged up, hit and hold the power until it comes up, try it. If your not sure about the amount of charge, plug it into your charger and do the same thing, hit and hold the power button, see what happens.
i had about 60% left. but even though it is connected to the usb cable right now, there is no charging light. im assuming that its bricked, therefore it isnt charging

Just for grins, unplug it from the USB (you may have already done this) and try to power it up. I can't see a way that some piece of code would nix(brick) the power, where it would not start up to "something", a loop, error, something.
wont power on guess im bricked
I too am in this boat:/ Any help guys?
Edit: used Lazy Panda's method. Worked perfectly. Typing this from my once bricked EVO.
Plug in phone, check device manager to see if its recognized as qhsusb_dload mode. There a thread in original development covering lazypanda bricks. Need linux, live cd or whatever but it says 100% success so check it out

Well, the method and what not wasn't the same to get me to the issue, although on my last two phones the result of me purchasing another phone was that there was no charge light and it wouldn't turn on. I assumed it was bricked, and I still have these two dead devices on my desk. Neither of them power up or show any signs of being alive. I can leave them on the charger for hours and no heat is generated at all. Everyone just blames it on being a lemon I tried literally everything I could think of, so assume I took every possible available measure to revive them =P(Short of taking it to any repair shops or opening the device up for surgery :3)
I am just sharing my experience, and to say that those things only happened on my htc devices and if you google around for devices not booting and no charge light then you'll see others with similar issues. If you get yours back up and running let me know ^^ It'd be interesting to have hope to bring back my shift/3d. Also good luck!
I had this same scenario earlier. After a while I gave up on waiting so I unplugged it and pressed the power button and volume down (don't ask me why I thought that would work lol) for about 15 seconds and it turned on. I reformatted my sdcard and ran the program again and now i'm SOFF
all u guys, just use the unbrick method http://unlimited.io/lazypanda-s-off-public-beta/evo-4g-lte-unbricker/
Marco while this might be a pain to setup (if your not running linux), you can download virtualbox from Oracle (a Sun product Oracle now owns) and then download and install your flavor of linux in a VM. You will put in a little time configuring linux, but it will get you to the test. Virtualbox is free, its similar to VMware Workstation or Microsoft's Virtual PC. I would go with Ubuntu, also free. What bugs me about your issue is you plug in the charger and you get no charging light. If this is indeed the case, even if you did all of this, how would you even be able to connect to the phone to issue the commands to unbrick it. Good luck.

I believe you have to use the sudo command to run it as superuser... I really dont know much about linux but I did have to create a Ubuntu boot CD to unbrick mine after trying to unlock in Windows.
I had assumed that improper HTC drivers were my problem in Windows but after unbricking I tried the use FeedPanda under linux and got bricked again. After 20+ power pushes and bamboo finding I decided having S-off wasn't that important to me lol.
Good luck.
Got it thanks!

Im having the same issues as the users in the thread the only way to unbrick the phone is LINUX?
Mario for everyone else here (1) a brief on how you bricked and (2) how you unbricked would be good to have.

I'm about to get a replacement phone, Which means I have to tango with Juopunutbear again.
But I'm on Windows 8, The troubleshooting on Unlimited.io says it doesn't work with windows 8,
But it also says that it doesn't work with Win7 64 bit, Which is all I have ever used, And have succeeded the wire trick 4 times with it.
Their "prerequisites" are much more strict than they actually need to be it seems.
SO I just wanna know if anyone's tried it.
I guess no one's tried it haha, almost 100 views, no reply.
Forum creepers...

i havent heard anything at all and i wouldnt personally know since i run linux
I couldn't even get my phone to recognize in BL when i tried messing around with Windows 8. It may work, but i had a rough go. However, I also don't care for Windows 8.
i was running RabiesShot.exe i noticed the phone was taking a very long time to respond. when i noticed it was not powered on i proceeded to power on the phone. no response. i plug the phone into the charger i dont see the notification light.
is there any hope on taking this phone in for repair or a way to get the phone to power on again?
i just got it back from repair earlier today.
i got 1/2 way thru the root process so i am worried that they might find out it is rooted if i go to take it in.
so do i have a brick or is there some sort of hope?

Sounds like a softbrick. Go and download RacunHunter from unlimited io. Though I think its linux only.

64 bit isn't supported by DirtyRacun. Some people have had success but I'm sure there's a good reason they don't (driver issues or something like that). Just use a live disc of ubuntu. It's not hard.
Hey guys,
I've been around these forums for a while.
I've had pretty much every Galaxy S phone that has been out for T-Mobile back to the Vibrant days.
I recently went on a journey to the dark side and had switched over to AT&T and had gotten a White 16GB iPhone 5S. Four months later, here I am.. back with T-Mobile and a White 16GB Galaxy S5. I was so close to getting the Note 4, but meh.. too big for me I think.
Anyway, back to my rant..
Never have I ever had so much trouble flashing a custom recovery on a phone, lol. It wasn't anything I was doing wrong I knew for sure, but it just kept failing, even going back to stop kept failing. I was up until like 3:30 AM last night trying to figure it out. I was going crazy. Tried different .tar files, ODINs, heimdall, etc. All this was in both Windows XP VMWare and Windows 7 VMWare, which I've never had an issue using before. Then I thought.. -sigh- it's probably stupid VMWare and ODIN / drivers / something not getting along. So I dusted off my dinosaur Windows XP desktop (Keep in mind I have a Macbook Air) and my god, never have I ever been as happy to own a dinosaur Windows XP desktop. I flashed back to stock, then flashed a custom recovery, then finally flashed Cyanogenmod.
Feels good to be back.

I too have a macbook air, but I'm running win 7 in Parallels. What I found is that Odin doesn't like when you have the tars on the mac side. I have to copy them all to the virtual C: drive. Also it doesn't like when the exe is run from the mac side, even though it still opens in windows. For some reason I have to actually run the exe from windows explorer.

Strange, thanks for the heads up.
Hopefully I can get this working on my mac cause I don't want to have to plug in my Winblows everytime I need to ODIN.
