I rooted my Eris a long time ago to 2.1 using the popular method of sticking the PB00IMG in the root of the sdcard, and starting the phone up using down volume+end. So now I’m running the bootleg 2.1; okay.
I followed all the directions on this familiar page of How To Root Your HTC Eris on thefuzz4.
I even got to the point where I’d typed in all the lines of code, and everything seemed to go well. But when it came time to restart my phone into recovery mode, use Amon’s Recovery and all that jazz, it just came up with the ! inside of the triangle, with a little picture of a phone next to it. I have no idea what I did wrong, I have no idea how to get it to work, nothing. I’m admittedly very new to this whole thing, but I just need help please!
The whole goal in doing it anyway is so I can downgrade my phone back to totally stock Android 1.5, so as to just have a clean phone and naturally upgrade to the OTA 2.1 that’s being released. I really don’t care about if any information gets wiped on my phone, so really ANY solution to getting my phone back to 1.5 or up to the OTA 2.1 with no trace of the ROM would be accepted.
I’ll pretty much do anything at this point, because god knows, I won’t figure it out.
Are you sure that you didn't install the non-root leak?
If you have root, you should have a # in front of the command line.
If you have a $ instead, try running the "su" command and press allow on your phone.
I’m definitely sure it’s rooted. I saw the #, and made sure that I did. I just can’t figure out how to get away from this 2.1 root.
I’m mean, I’ll pretty much do anything, even start from scratch to get this to work. I’m just totally at loss and need someone’s help.

I finally got it to work. I downloaded Terminal Emulator from the market, and flashed the recovery image from the phone itself without having to use the SDK. It was actually way easier.
Now I’m running 1.5 again! Kind of funny that’s what all of this work was for. Now the only question is if I’ll still get the OTA 2.1 if I still have Amon’s installed….

I am been searching and searching for a tutorial to root my T-mobile UK hero.
Could someone help with find a straightforward guide as there seem to be soo many diffent methods which is just confusing me a bit.

I don't even know what a G2 is. but if it's basically a hero with a different case (the only reason I can imagine why it's lumped in with our heros), you should try my following instructions. The worst case is that it won't work in step one (the actual rooting process) in which case you'd have to get help from someone else.
Don's instructions for how to root your hero (yea, I'm Don, dkelley):
- download the one click root apk http://blog.23corner.com/tag/universalandroot/ from the official blog. (newbie points: copy it do your sd card if you didn't download it directly with your phone. checkmark "unknown sources" in settings->applications. install it using a file explorer that you can download from market for free such as "linda file manager".)
- run it, choose root for 1.5/1.6. takes half a minute. worked for me first time, but there isn't any obvious confirmation other than "done" message, so don't expect magical features popping up. It doesn't even install a superuser app or busybox... so you're still borked.... until the next step.
- download the free (old version, crappy features, but functional) superuser app from the market. install it (obviously). now you're just missing busybox. if you know how/want to bother putting it into your current rom, go for it. I didn't so I didn't.
- for sake of app backup, you can't run titanium without busybox (you already have root and superuser though, see post above if it matters that much). I downloaded the free applist tool from market to make a text file on sd card listing my installed apps. stock hero rom can't have too much installed anyway, won't take you THAT long to manually go through list and redownload/reinstall after flashing a new rom.
- install clockwork "rom manager". they say it's in market, I've never seen it. but an apk is floating around the net. it only needs root+SU which you have now. use it to download and flash a recovery rom of your choice. I use clockwork so it's an obvious choice here, but I think you can do amon-ra with this tool also, probably 1.6.x for those who don't care about dalvik wipes working properly.
- do a nandroid backup of your original rom NOW. could be really important... and this 1-click rooter can apparently UNRoot your rom too, so after a nandroid restore it might be the only way to get your phone back to stock. in my case I'm sol that way (hand-made goldcard rooting method, my phone's incapable of going stock ever again using my own skills...)
- newbie points: make sure you have a flashable signed gsm hero rom on your sd card somewhere. Reboot into recovery using "rom manager" or shutdown phone, then start it again but hold power AND home buttons without letting go until 8 to 12 seconds later you're booted into recovery. wipe everything (dalvik, cache, data, ext shouldn't matter yet from a stock rom...). "install zip file" or however they word the "flash rom" process in your recovery.
- reboot and enjoy.
I've got a t-mobile g2 and used the gold card method a while back, so can say that definitely works.

I know your phone isn't listed there - but again, downloading and running the apk won't do anything bad. it either works or doesn't, you'd know by now. it might not work but it's WAY faster and easier than a goldcard.
so imho it's worth a try for 30 seconds of your time.
if it says that it successfully roots your phone then just follow the rest of my instructions above to get everything setup how you'll need to.
goldcard works great though too - I just found it a very poorly documented experience. Hopefully it's clearer now.

Hi I try to flash my G2 to generic RUU I did goldcard with success and I was doing upgrade trought RUU everything works great but then it says RADIO_V2 - FAIL PU.
Now when I try to turn on my G2 I get hboot screen and I can do anything
can somebody help me?

The G2 is T-Mobile UK's version of the Hero, and as far as I know they have locked it down so tight that the only way of Rooting it regardless of what ROM it has(1.5, 1.5 update 1, 2.1 e.t.c), has always only been the goldcard method.
You have to use the goldcard method, I tried the other one when I was rooting my G2 and it didn't work.

Google 'Complete Newbie Guide Hero' Its the first link.
I used the Goldcard to root my T-mob G2. I think I used this guide: Jesterz' guide It is a bit of a pain but you only have to do it once.

Yeah, use the same method. After your rooted, flash the rooted OTA stock Rom (google it) and also flash the its radio. That's what I did.

I am unable to install the 7/8 Combo Radio package after installing DasBAMF Stripped 1.8.6
Constantly says "Installation Aborted."
Anyone else with this experience? I thought that I had read that this combo worked.
Got this sorted. I was using an MR1 package, not MR2, apparently. Using a different packaging of the OTA update flashed in via HBOOT.

Your flashing it through the bootloader right? You can't use clockwork to flash it.

I would like to know the best route for me to go with minimal risk of bricking. I have flashed my wife's LG Ally a couple of times .. was easy enough, just ran an exe
All of the ones I have found for the thunderbolt seem to be a lot more complex. Is there a OneClick method I can run that will include the new radio (so i can get the latest fixes)?
If not, I am willing to go the ADB route (I have the Android SDK installed) but I dont know how to update the radio.

Use adb to root. Radio is done through hboot. Power off phone. Then hold vol key down and power on. Will bring you to hboot. Make sure radio is at root of SD card and is named properly. There is a sticky in the DEV section that will walk you through it.

I just used the XDA development one. The key point is to read it carefully several times and be sure you understand each step. Ask questions beforehand if you are not sure about something. And be sure to follow each step exactly. Typos are the biggest risk, so go slow and read what you've typed on each line before hitting enter.
The radio file needs to be renamed to PG051IMG.zip and placed on the root of the SD card. Then power off and boot into bootloader. It'll load automatically after you hit +volume to confirm "yes ".
I had several flashes that resulted in the Exclamation Point warning triangle. Pulling the battery and USB cable and reinstalling power got me back to a running build.
It took me a while to do every step. I wanted to skip steps, not realizing that you needed the downgrade and RUU flashes to get S-OFF and unlock.
Once that was all done, I went to DasBAMF Stripped and found the OTA radio in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160346.
So far, so good. Calibrating battery now and trying to personalize and optimize to my best ability.
Ok so from what I gather there are no issues that would prevent any of the previous methods from working post 7/8 update? That includes the one click app thats been floating around for a few months right?
I've been holding off root for months, but my patience has finally run out, time to do what I should have done from the beginning.

I did the 7/8 update, and was fine with it. I just wanted to get the Verizon bloatware off. I had problems installing the stock debloated ROMs, so i ran with BAMF to test, and since it worked, I kept it. My rooting came after the recent OTA.
The once-click and .bat methods didn't work so well for me, so I followed the full instructions in a CMD window (I can't call that POS in DOS a shell).
Most of my time was installing a correct Java JDK (had to use x86 instead of x64) and getting ADB dialled in.

I had the same thinking and wanted it the quick and easy way. Doing the research and taking the time (and beers ) to do it manually was very informative and satisfying when i got done. It was said already but ive been able to apply any feature that an official OTA would give long before its normally released to verizon customers. I love my Tbolt and wouldnt have it any other way.

Doing things the long way has never really scared me, but some of the horror stories I kept hearing a month or two back about instability of GB roms had me a bit hesitant to go for it.
It does appear to be a bit more involved than what I am accustomed to, but I have used ADB before, I was just trying not to this time.
Can someone give me a bit of advice actually.
I'm on the end of Step 4 found in the Developement section, and when I hit Bootloader, it brings up a second menu not mentioned in the posts, what do i do from here?

I used the auto root method 3 times so far and worked great. I did the full last update and lost root so I had to redo it load Rom and just added the radio file in hboot.
try auto root its fast and simple just follow the commands on the screen!
Hey everybody, Im a little confused about a few things, and thought I'd ask a couple of questions. I'm still fairly noob to all of this. I used to have an hd2 that I managed to put nandrom android on and eventually got fairly proficient with flashing roms. My phone broke and I was without for a year or so. Now I have an Evo3d, and I want to get back into the smartphone scene a bit. I understand that with the hboot 1.50, it is difficullt to root the phone. I have seen a few tutorials on different methods, but they all seem to be multi tutorials thast try to cover rooting, flashing roms, kernbels, recovery, etc. I just want to root the phone to begin with. Could anyone point me to a decent simple tutorial on just rooting the phone? I'm a one step at a time sorta person when I want to learn about a new subject, and I get kinda bogged down with having to learn too many new things at once with most of the tutorials I have managed to find. I'd really appreciate any help, as I would like to learn more about all of this, but like I said, I like to take baby steps.

Ok, so Im doing this, and after a little fussing with the downloads, It seemed to be working. I'm doing the htc unlock, I get the identifier token, I receive my e-mail with unlock_code.bin. I download it and place it in the c:\android folder, then when I type "fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin, I get an error message stating that remote is not allowed. Any ideas what this means, or what I might be able to do about it?

nvm. it mysteriously worked after trying it a few more times.
Ok now. So I'm inching along with this. I've gotten as far as typing "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" and the thing just pauses. it says "sending 'recovery' (5068 KB)..." and I get a flashing cursor. I let it run once for 4 minutes with no response. Now I'm letting it run for ten minutes to see what happens. Anybody have any ideas? I really appreciate it. p.s. I'm pretty sure I have usb debugging checked. If it doesn't work this time, that's the first thing I'll check. Anybody know if I should have fastboot checked on?
Got through that! For some reason, I didn't have htc sync running on my laptop. Good thing to remember in the future, I guess! Now I am awaitinf titanium back up to finish, then it's on to a new, custom rom!!! I'll be back with a status update, Im sure. wish me luck.
Hi guys my girlfriend bought a LG Viper 4G LTE and she told me to root it to remove the sprint crap, so I was wondering if anyone has already done this and if yes, can they tell me how to s-off + root + custom recovery + and probably custom ROM.

The phone is running android 4.0.4, is this ICS or Jelly bean?
I do not know how to get into fast boot boot loader cause I don't think it is POWER + VOL DOWN.

If i get it to run all the way though and reboot it still comes up without root and with no super user. I am starting to think I may have to find a way to downgrade it and root from there.....Did you ever have any luck?

I can confirm that the above will work. I have a refurbished Viper from Sprint that I got because my 3G radio quit sending. It would receive great, but couldn't send any MMS or upload anything while on 3G. 4G was great, just no joy on 3G. Strangest thing. Anyway, got the phone replaced, and on the replacement was of course the dreaded unrooted ZVK. Gotta have my root back...
So I decided to try all this stuff out, and It worked.
To add a little further info, if you've got a relatively bare install of Windows, especially XP, you might need BOTH the VisualC++ Runtime Redistributables from 2010 (mentioned in the above thread) AND the one from 2008! If you don't have both, the LG FlashTool will not run. You can find them on Microsoft's site.
Once the flash tool has successfully downgraded your Viper, make sure you perform a factory reset, as indicated in the instructions for the FlashTool. Then use the "Activate" app to get your 3G/4G on. After that, set up your Google account under "Accounts and Sync" in "Settings".
I did the whole operation completely on a linux system, using a virtual machine running Windows XP for the FlashTool, then the bash script from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43530152&postcount=3253 with the v.31 rooting tool from the original post in that thread.
I had to edit the script in a very minor way, as was pointed out by its author, so it could find my adb command. I just placed the path to that command in the line that said:

in the place of the first "adb", so I got:

for test_adb in "/home/user/android-sdk-linux/platform-tools/adb" "stuff/adb"
Make sure to replace "user" with your username, without the quotes.
Then I stuck the script in the same folder as the runme.bat file. After the script and root tool had done their work, my phone had rebooted a total of three times, and I had a perfectly functional Superuser app!

Now to get RootKeeper and upgrade back to ZVK...
The aforementioned root method worked for me. Since I've rooted, I've compiled my findings into another thread. I haven't been able to unlock the bootloader yet, unfortunately.

Long story short, a co-worker who claimed to know what they were doing has reset my phone, wiped my external sd card and totally factory reset my phone. When I turn it on now ClockworkMod Recovery comes on, but all of my back ups etc have been wiped. I am assuming that it is now just a machine with no info on it. What do I do now? I'm sure that the answer to this will be very involved so if anyone could possibly suggest a thread to read or somewhere to start I would greatly appreciate it. I'm sorry for the inconvenience guys...

Since your phone has been wiped, you are going to have to re-install your ROM either via LGNPST, which will return your phone to stock, or you will need to install your favorite custom ROM via adb sideload.

I was able to fix the problem late the night of this post, but I REALLY DO APPRECIATE the advice.
I had to reinstall the firmware ultimately. I did learn the commands and process for the sideload, so that was cool, and the program zips did show as downloading from 0-100% and attempted to install, but the 4g part of "this device is geef4g" was an error that I was unable to surmount. I attempted to install the madmack version of TWRP to no avail. I am lucky I figured out the tool ONLY by accidentally stumbling over the advice referencing turning back the clock on the pc.
Moving Forward...
Ok... Had to at least stop in and say thank you for the response and post the conclusion to the handful of people that stopped and looked at the thread and at the least not be one of the members that pops on to fix their device and lurks around until they need help to post again. I wouldn't be back to stock with my Optimus if others did that. I do apologize that I was able to find onsite and unable to do it at the time of the threads origin. I wont re-post links, FlashTool the fix was figuring out the right order to go in with the drivers and eventually flashing the stock AT&T firmware with the LG FlashTool. I kept on getting an error when placing the dll file and the tot in to the Tool and it was total mental error on my part when "organizing" everything beforehand. It did require me to wipe my pc back down to Windows 8.1 simply because this is all new to me and I had files EVERYWHERE from rooting every thing I can get my hands on recently. I'm having fun, but this Optimus is my heart for some reason. Originally I had her rooted with Towelroot (I believe), it could of been the LG one click flash thing that I grabbed from here, and I remember Freegee and KitKat recovery being part of the process, but I attempted to install TWRP (personal preference for me from messing with a Kindle Fire for weeks installing CM) but during reboot always went back to CWM 6.0.2.1 (or similiar). Ultimately CM was the goal on this device but was never possible, for me at least, due to my device being "geef4g" yada yada. I think I have read the fix for this in another post, so I will re study up on all that again if need by, but I wanted to pose this question simply because the "Mystique" of successfully installing CM has passed, and while I love the interface and style of that ROM, I kinda liked AndroidArea51 Rom and another ROM whose name escapes me at the moment that I put on some OLD LG phones that I practiced on in the beginning. So this is my goal. I would love it if one or two of you guys would take the time to look at what I want to accomplish and point me in the right direction as far as the procedure and order I should install these modifications to this device and if you have preferences I would love to hear them. I will look up the threads on how to do everything, so I'm not asking for an easy way out of hitting the search box, but I am WAY behind you guys as far as skill set and knowledge base is concerned and trial and error is not the method I wanted to use on this particular machine. If I need to begin a new thread or if a MOD wants/requires me to rename this thread or move it I understand. Stand by for what my goal is ultimately......
OBJECTIVE
AT&T Optimus Pro G (will HOPEFULLY be accepted by StraightTalk and used on their network or whatnot)
I ran the IMEI through their BYOD tool and it was accepted initially a week or so ago while "rooted", so I am assuming that since it is mine from another network they wont sweat me. HOWEVER, if they are going to send any code or require me to allow them modifications during the activation process that is going to in anyway alter my device down to the castrated ST standard they sell, I will have to weigh finances and options again. I realize that Tethering will be frowned upon, traceable, and grounds for termination in either case, but the subject of Mobile Hotspots is what brought me to you guys here in the first place. It irks me.
In my original "build" of this phone I attempted to dabble in "Over-Clocking" with Kernel Booster and Kernel Auditor. I didn't have a f******* clue what any of that $hiT meant. If the app's pretty much optimized it I did so for SPEED rather than battery. I don't know why, I want this thing to FLY in a noticeable fashion for performance and so that I can whip it out and show my family and friends just what the hell it is that I am accomplishing.
1. Optimize it for speed, but I would like the eventual permanent ROM to be stable PERIOD. Whether I customize the Kernel and then place the ROM, or build the ROM and then mess with the Kernel is a hurdle that I don't understand how to approach really, so when you guys talk about it I just think it sounds cool. I am assuming that "Xposed" is something I should maybe begin studying? Build props through ES File Explorer has peaked my interest as well. Long story short, if CM is what you guys suggest I install, I dont want to Optimize the hell out of the stock only to have all of it be replaced when the custom ROM is flashed. I hope that makes sense.
2. I want to optimize the range on my WIFI and every other manner of device communication without losing security. I have numerous friends that are very generous with their personal accounts that allow me to randomly log in to strangers spots (EX. Xfinity accouts), in order to truly connect to it, I have to sit outside in the yard like a weirdo at 3am with my phone in my backyard, much to the disgust of every dog in the neighborhood. I dont want to be that guy. Honestly, I am really curious in learning how to access the internet and/or any other data networks that are out there with out using these major carriers at all. I feel like there is a lot more out there than the average person is aware of. Maybe they are super low key because they are owned by the upper rich 1% or the military etc etc, but if other networks exist that facilitate the same communications that us peasants pay $100/month to access I want in on it.
3. Optimize the picture, color and clarity of the screen for any and everything being shown on it, optimize the Audio with a good "Music Player"(currently what I use) which I generally heard through head phones and when in the car pushed to that system via FM signal. I currently have over 1000 tracks, discovering a cost efficient way of adding to that Library would be wonderful (ie: spend $0), but I have been out of the music file sharing game for a while so I dont know if this is realistic. Optimizing my camera to take the best shots possible on this phone. I generally shoot nature shots, sunsets, sunrises.... unsuspecting women in doggy, the usual... I will not be loading movies and super large files. I am a NAZI with my storage. If I could expand upon the internal or external factory specs that would be great. In other words, real life applications... I haven't been a gamer for decades so nothing crazy, but this device's beautiful picture is what I fell in love with.
4. A kick ass ROM UI that is eye catching and user friendly... sorry so long winded. Got to go run calls at work now....
