I/O Error with 8GB MicroSD - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just bought a MicroSD Card with 8GB. (SanDisk 8GB MicroSDHC)
The Card works just fine when saving Data on it and it is formated in FAT32. Well, everythings fine until I play music and decide to stop the playback...
When I do so, the music player will refuse to read any data (including the song it just played) and other programs like Doggcatcher (failing downloads with I/O Error) and camera (can't find the SD Card) will fail.
I tried various ROMs like Vanillaeclair, rooted original ROM and Modaco, it's always the same.
The card has been changed by the shop I bought it from but the problem persists with the new one aswell.
A 2GB SanDisk works just fine...
Any ideas?

I made a disk check with Win7 and everything seems fine with the card.
Since I tried numerous Roms of 1.5 and 2.1 origin I was wondering if the Recovery Image may have a problem. I've installed the AmonRa Recovery (think its the newest 1.6.2)?

4GB SanDisk microsdhc does not work

I've tried to install a few programs on my 4 gig microsdhc card. For example iGo8 starts only a few times, then crashes. When I explored my card there were 2 folders named iGo8. I formatted the card and installed a newer version of iGo8, and same thing happened: after a few starts(working perfectly) it crashes.
The exact same iGo8 works fine with 1GB microsd.
I've tried also installing M2DC, the effect was slowing down the device, so i had to uninstall. The same with top bar customizing cabs.
PLS HELP!
I've found the solution for the nonworking card:
Hard SPL the device
Installed RuRo v.1.1 ROM
Now it's working fine!
Hey,
I have the same 4GB Micro SDHC card. Mine is working fine with music and programs being installed and run from it. I'm not sure what could be done to help fix the problem. Maybe windows update?

The same in my case, no problems over more than 6 months.
Link to card: http://www.amazon.de/SanDisk-Micro-...=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=ce-de&qid=1255621177&sr=8-9
I have the 4gb micro sdhc as well. I was using it in a Nokia e71 but when I purchased the motorola backflip it didn't work. It was during this time that I noticed that I didn't have the average micro sd card. Upon recognizing this, I bought the san disk micro card reader for hc but when I insert the card into the reader using my laptop (windows 7), it freezes when I click on the reader. I have not been successful with trying to retrieve the data other than putting the card back into the nokia e71. If I could find a solution with just getting the card to read on the computer, I can try reformatting the card. Pease Help if you know of a solution.
It is a timing problem on the interface level
Hi,
when I bought my fist 3G, I've tried it with a 8GB µSD Card and I've seen the symptoms described by other user (freeze problem, very very slow motion, ...). Without µSD card, it was working perfectly.
I was sure this µSD card was working fine in a HTC HD, so I tried a slower µSD card and it was working again. But because I was unhappy with the fact that I had to slow down the 3G (by using a slower card) to get it working, I've tried to find other 3G to try my SD card... and finally, I tried it in 11 HTC 3G (that was "working" according to their owner) and on 3 of them, the SD card did not work!
So, I've exchanged my 3G and with the new one, my SD card is working perfectly.
Conclusion:
During the electronic design of the HTC 3G, the µSD interface timings were borderline. So, if you are lucky, your model supports fast µSD card, if you are not, you have to buy a slower µSD card or try to exchange your HTC 3G. Anyway, it is not a "critical" problem because it has a simple solution... But for sure, everybody prefers to be lucky
Good luck
solution for your SD card
format your 4GB SD card in FAT32, it should work I think _ ^ let me know!
I think you should fix it by these steps:
1. Replace your sdcard by another one and see if it works well or not
2. If the new one works well, then you need to change your card
3. If the same thing happens, then try to change your application or install a higher version of it
4 gig hd card
solved the problem on xperia x1
1. format in NFT
2. problem solved
what that about can anyone explain?

[Q] SD card unexpectdly removed - CM7 + S2E

I'm using CM7 + S2E, in order to make applications even faster, I've bought a new Sandisk original 8GB card from the mobile ultra line, which suppose to be fast.
even when I tried to install s2e, I had some problems, but it all finally worked out. Now there is a different problem, it seems that if I need to download a big file the card shows it unexpectedly removed. for example I've tried to install Sygic navigation software and it needs to download about 180MB of data and after 40MB the card shows this error.
It happens also when transferring large files to the card though USB cable.
can the card be defect? is it time for a new ROM (would love CM9, but waiting for a stable version), is it a setting I could change? would love to hear any idea.
I've tried different SD card (kingston 4GB), try to copy in root, and formatted the phone and try to copy without s2e installed , increased cache read SD to 8M with SD booster - same results. any ideas?!
Problem solved with replacing the current 8GB mobile ultra Sandisk card (class 6) with an ADATA 16GB card Class 10. Everything works perfectly.
I had the same problem. I solved it by reformatting the fat partition with a smaller allocation unit size I believe. Don't remember what the magic number was off the top of my head though.

Micro SDHC 32GB Class 10 Card Problem

Hi, I just recently bought a Sandisk 32GB card and have it reformated before transferring it with music and videos. All is well, I can play all of my music but randomly, the music player will stop playing and I can't access the contents of the SD card anymore unless I reboot the phone. Tested it with H2testw and its genuine. Is there any way to fix this?. TIA.
Sooo, I am NOT the only one who has this problem.
Yes, this happens for me, too, with a class 10 Samsung 16 GB SD Card.
Just yesterday the card also lost files when this happened. Checking the SDCard revealed no problems whatsoever.
So now I wonder: Is the card reader not okay, is it a compatibility issue between certain cards and the S III or is it a firmware bug.
Format the card via windows as FAT32 may fix problems .

screw...think im having one such problem now....anyone knows how to solve it?
Backup your files and format it again
Its recommend to use samsung sd card
Its very fast calss10 and designed for samy android devices.

Random reboots/Rosie restarts or SD disconnects on any ROM with Android 2.3.5+?

Okay do you have more than 50 apps installed to SD (/mnt/sdcard/.android_secure)? If so that's probably your problem. Apparently all versions of Android since 2.3.5 (and including 4.0.3) have a major bug where you can't have more than 50 apps installed on SD or you'll get either 1) random SD card dismounts or 2) random reboots (or Sense Rosie restarts). The solutions are either use a ROM with A2SD support (or A2SD+) or, even better, use Link2SD. Both of these solutions require re-partitioning your SD card. I have fully-embraced Link2SD on my Evo3D and so far everything is running great. I have a SanDisk 64GB microSD class 10 card and I think the phone may actually be faster with all the apps linked to the second partition on my SD card than having them installed locally! I used MiniTool PartitionWizard in Windows to shrink my existing FAT32 partition on the card and created an 8GB FAT32 partition for linked apps with Link2SD. So far I've only used about 3.5GB of that but maybe I'll install all my digital kids books on it too (though mostly I want those on my tablets, obviously). I thought the random reboots or Rosie restarts were something wrong with the custom ROMs I was using but then I discovered that this happens with ANY ROM that is Android 2.3.5 or later and it's not specific apps causing it but rather having too many apps on SD (via Apps2SD/Titanium). Incidentally, another advantage of Link2SD is that the second partition of your SD card isn't mounted when you plug the phone into a computer so those apps keep working and don't disappear. ROCKS!

SnowJB v1.1 ROM for E970 works, BUT doesn't support 64GB MicroSD - Verified Reliably

Hello guys,
I've rooted my AT&T LG Optimus G (E970) yesterday, and also unlocked the Boot Loader and flashed the ROM from SnowJB v1.1, v1.1 All of this to make Sygic Navigation (with cached maps from TomTom) work before a foreign business trip. The whole thing installed seamlessly and seem to be working fine (have just got it running for 24 hours so far). Another big THANK YOU for deleted LG bloatware!
BUT this is the problem I've come across and was even able to double-check at the local RadioShack: This flashed ROM doesn't support 64GB MicroSD cards, while the original, stock AT&T with Android 4.0.4 did it without problems. Here's the detailed description:
1. I've purchased an SanDisk Ultra 64 GB microSDXC Class 10 UHS-1 Memory Card 30MB/s with Adapter SDSDQUA-064G-U46A from Amazon.com, inserted it into the original phone with its Stock ROM, and did not do anything beyond it. The phone quickly recognized the card, and I could work with it without problems for days.
2. I had to switch to the original 16GB MicroSD card when installing CWM Recovery tool, because the installer simply couldn't read the original installation file from a 64GB MicroSD - it showed that the card is empty. And yes, I unmounted each card properly each time I was extracting it.
3. After flashing the ROM successfully I tried to replace the 16GB MicroSD with my original 64GB one. The device seemed to see the card, and then switched to the permanent, never-ending mode of checking the card. The message was smth. like: Checking USB Device for errors. I waited for several hours and interrupted the process. This was purely related to this 64GB MicroSD card, because everything else was working well, including the 16GB card and the flashed ROM itself.
4. I've reformatted the card in my tablet, but this didn't help either.
5. Trying to make sure that it was not a particular card (or some operation) to blame, but rather its size, and also because 16GB is just too small, and I started regretting about the whole ROM-flashing procedure in the first place, I went to the nearest RadioShack that had both SanDisk Ultra 32GB and 64GB MicroSD cards in stock. There I purchased the 64GB one and inserted it into the phone. As one might remember, with the stock 4.0.4 AT&T ROM it worked instantaneously.
Well, this time it was somewhat different: The device started checking the "USB device" for errors, but it ended soon, and then it said that the card is ready to be used! BUT it still stayed in an UNMOUNTED state, and the phone couldn't mount the card anyway. Tried it several times, shutting down the phone and inserting the card while it was off, etc. Then I returned the card and purchased an absolutely similar, Class 10 32GB MicroSD card. The whole thing worked like a breeze immediately, and it's in my phone as I am writing this.
The whole experiment with a clean, factory-formatted 64GB MicroSD has completely proved that this ROM, while very good and seemingly stable, has a problem with 64GB MicroSD cards. Help would be appreciated, but I am afraid it's the ROM that needs to be changed...
Kind regards,
Leo

Yes, it does seem to have issues. Some people are able to use it just fine, while it doesn't work at all for others. I don't have a 64gb sdcard for testing, and have been really busy lately, but It's on my todo list. My theory is that it is caused by it being detected as usb storage instead of a sdcard, but if that is it, I am not sure if I will be able to fix it.
Just format your card to fat32 (Google 'format microsd fat32') and it will work

Tried with FAT32 - still doesn't work
Well, I tried formatting the 64GB card using the HP utility, so I also tried FAT32 formatting. Still doesn't work, while it worked perfectly under the stock 4.0.4 ROM

Hello everybody,
My system administrator has taken a lot of interest in the case, and he verified that even when formatted using the FAT32 format my 64GB Micro-SDXC card does not always work. It all depends on the tool.
Namely:
1. It did NOT work out of the box, pre-formatted, as I've written earlier - my very own experience at RadioShack.
2. It did NOT work after formatting with the HP tool, and a couple of others.
3. It started working perfectly (and is mounted extremely quickly) when the EaseUS® Partition Master 9.2.1 Home Edition - Free was used to format it (FAT32, of course). My sysadmin had to delete the partitions created originally or by other tools, and then he re-created the primary partition and formatted the card. After that it worked perfectly in my phone, so my earlier concern that the problem is somehow related to the custom ROM was wrong.
4. Interestingly enough, this card even started working at full capacity in the guy's Samsung Galaxy Tablet that is NOT designed to accommodate more than 32GB officially...
