Start>Settings>Sounds & Notifications>Notifications
Messaging: New email message
Messaging: New text message
ect
ect
I can select for new messages to display on the screen, like most of you....
But, after an unpredetermined amount of time, the phone reverts back to not displaying the messages.
How can I stop this revertion to settings that I did not set??
Thanks in advance,
J

This is what I do:
Start>Settings>Sounds & Notifications>Notifications
and then in the drop down menu I select:
Messaging: New email message
Messaging: New text message
ect...
I check the box "Display message on screen"
A few hours later the messages stop popping up on screen and I have to go in and recheck the box.
What gives??
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
~J
I do like text messages being displayed on the screen as soon as they come in. I've been using this app to display full images of Contacts: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.androminigsm.fsci
But it sure would be nice to only have messages from important contacts displayed for preview instead of all incoming messages.
Can this be done, is there an app or setting for this?
I like the fact that my iphone wakes up with new text messages and emails, with a pop up that shows the email summary or full text message...is there an app in the android market that does this..
i have found pop up notification apps, but they just show that you have an email, doesnt show the email summary or full text message in the pop up...

Go SMS pro has pop-up
When I get a text message I unlock my phone, and on the bottom where the text message icon is it'll display the # of texts you received. Even after reading my text message the number never clears itself and goes away it'll still have a number next to it saying I have a text.. Anyone having this issue??
Doesn't happen to me, but I am using Handcent instead of stock messaging app. Try going to applications and clearing the cache/data for the messaging app.
....Can this be done because at the moment I'm getting the same notification for incoming emails and for text messages and it's really starting to do my head in constantly checking my phone to see if someone has text me, only to find a pointless email instead.
Please help as it's driving me mad.
Both your email and text messages are using the default notification tone.
If you want to change one, go into the app, press settings and navigate to notification settings. Both text message and email notifications can be configured.
Also for future - jump into the settings (within the app) to find out if you can change the notification sounds; i'm pretty sure most apps will allow you to configure it.
I too had the same issue and sorted it out few min back. Open messaging/mail/gmail. hit options and settings. Under Notifications, select the ringtone of your choice. Done!!
