First time topic so sorry if im a noob.
My SD card became disconnected from my phone whilst in operation. I use a2sd. All of my apps are no longer starting up, force closing on click. Exceptions are Rom apps, such as phone, browser etc.
I had a look around the forum and on Google but there appears to be not much info on a2sd. Is there a way u could fix this? I've restarted at least twice and tried repair ext and the other repair thing in amonra recovery, to no avail. I ended up doing a bart restore, (hence writing using tapatalk) but I have lost texts and apps etc.
Any help would be appreciated for the inevitable next time this happens. What happened and is there any way to fix it painlessly?

might work?
Let's say hypothetically I do not know where to type this in. Can I use a terminal in the phone, or do I need to type it in using the sdk on my pc?

If your SD card became disconnected you still should have no problems as soon as it was reconnected. Try turning off the phone, remove the SD card. Reinsert it to make sure it's inserted correctly. Then turn on the phone.
If for some reason the ext2 or ext3 partition is corrupt I'm not sure if there's a chkdsk equivalent for the phone.

I have definitely made sure that upon restart the SD card is readable. I get the feeling that the partition has become corrupt. I'm curious as to whether anyone else has a problem like this and how they would solve it.
So far I have updated the filesystem to ext3: considering it's journalled I reckon it might solve the problem in future. Any ideas?

That's not true. If Android is allowed to run while the card is disconnected, simply restoring the card won't resolve the apps2sd issues. This doesn't mean the card is physically faulty. The only workaround I've seen so far is remove/reinstall all affected apps. Titanium Backup helps with this.

Thanks for this, does anyone know why these problems exist then? Isn't there a script or something that can undo the damage that is done? My phone did it again and I tried the recovery options in Amon_Ra and have also run fix_permissions too - very little difference was made.
If it helps - the XDA app is throwing up some kind of internet permissions problem. I'll take any help I can get.
By the way I'm almost certain it's a web permissions problem. Apps such as newsroom open up ok, but report not having any internet despite wifi/3g reception. Web only apps FC immediately.
Most likely as you say it is a permissions issue of some kind. Certain, typically simple, apps are fine. Others FC on launch, while a few FC on certain user actions, all of which suggest the FC occurs when the app tries to do something it needs permission for & which it thinks it already has permission for. It seems the permissions granted upon app installation are somehow lost when Android notices the apps are missing.
Someone suggested this is down to the user/group ids each app runs under. That the temporary removal of the sdcard causes this allocation to change, while stored permissions still pertain to the original install ids. I wasn't able to confirm this last time I looked & I eventually gave up the search.
Good luck finding the cause & a fix or workaround.

Hi, I'm running the latest rootfs and Ril on Rhod400, even though this issue is almost definitely not related. I think that the battery died in middle of the night (I forgot to plug it in), and when I turned it on after charging it, a lot of apps started to Force-Close. This happens even after a reboot.
Thanks for all the help.

Delete the data.img, let the system create a new one. Problem solved.
So it got corrupted? I feared so. At the rate I'm re-creating Data Images, I should buy the Pro version of Titanium Backup for Batch Restore.

That's what I did! I found myself using the app so frequently, I decided to pay for it.
Advanced users willing to do a little research will also find that sometimes the fix_permissions script will fix your data.img in these situations, it fixed mine a few days ago.

Happened to me also after it paniced and rebooted one day. I had to install all of the apps that force closed over again after uninstalling them. Seems like info got corrupted. I didn't want to start from scratch, especially since I just successfully got my work VPN working, so I just spent the time to uninstall and reinstall the stuff as I go. Have no clue what causes this other than something got corrupted.

I ran into a similar issue. My phone hard locked after running Android for the better part of a day. When I rebooted it ran extensive disk checks on the system. It still does every time I boot and I am get force close messages constantly. Windows also found and fixed errors with the FAT32 partition on the card. It's possible my card is dying but I also didn't notice any of that until the forced reboot. It didn't say what file was damaged but I can take a guess.
I believe that the FAT32 file system on the card was corrupted because files were open when I was forced to reboot. Because the linux file system is hosted as a file on the fat32 partition, it is subject to damage if the host file system gets messed up. It's sort of like when MS offered the option in DOS to compress your hard drive. It was all stored as a giant compressed file on your disk. If something happened to the integrity of that file it caused all sorts of problems.
This is why I use a partitioned build...
might be a stupid question but what is that ^

Instead of using looped files (system.ext2 file is really an entire file system that is 'loop mounted' within Linux/Android) you use native partitions.
So a separate partition for data, separate partition for system, etc. It's a little more difficult to setup, but in theory it causes less corruption. Not sure if it's true or not, hyc is pretty convinced it does .

I've been running with the same data partition since the middle of January, haven't needed to recreate it even once. It boggles my mind how often you tell people to blow away their data.img and start over whenever they run into problems. That just ain't right, and an approach that encourages that style of problem-solving is inherently flawed, IMO. And a build layout that leads to that type of solution is also inherently flawed.
Plus the simple existence proof - my /data partition is fine, despite having reinstalled /system several times, switching between original FRX05 and FRX06, rewritten rootfs scripts, plus all of the built-from-scratch system images I've tested, replacing framework.jar, etc. etc... My SDcard has seen a lot of churn, but all of my downloaded apps, settings, and data have come thru unscathed.
A couple times I've needed to run fix_permissions. But now with my current framework and rootfs that does a clean shutdown and unmount of /data, I haven't needed that in a while either.
Oh, and also, with a partitioned build, you get full use of USB mass storage. Everything just works.

I agree, it's horrible troubleshooting - but it works, and until we get a solid fix then there's really not much to do...
I know you love your partitions, but that's not going to be for everyone. Anyone can do it, and how many do?

Also good to note - everything works, related to USB mass storage, etc. This isn't some magic voodoo fix for BT, so don't take this out of context people!

Nearly all other post-crash forceclose issues seem to be database corruption.
Android seems to like to store a LOT of stuff other than contacts (including call logs) in the contacts database. As a result it tends to be more prone to corruption.
Piece of advice - when complaining about an issue like this where obtaining a logcat is possible, please do so. (A logcat would be able to narrow down exactly where your problems likely were.)
DB corruption can still happen even on partitioned builds. I forget where the best HOWTO for this is, but it involves partitioning your SD card such that:
Partition 1 is FAT (main sdcard stuff)
Partition 3 is ext2 (system partition)
Partition 4 is ext2 (data partition)
I can provide a reasonably good HOWTO for doing this on a Linux box when I return from business travel, can't help the Windows-only users.
fix permission script? where can i find more about this?
My problem is quite accurately described by the topic name. Every now and then, some apps from my SD card (such as Robot Unicorn Attack and Gameboid, not sure if the same apps do this all the time) just disappear from the app drawer and tapping their shortcuts on the homescreen returns a "The requested activity could not be launched" toast. But those respective apps still exist in Manage Applications, albeit with their package names and the grey SD icon. Does anyone know why that happens? I don't think it's the card, it runs perfectly otherwise.
I get the same thing on my EVO 4g. No idea why it happens, it seams to be random.
Same thing is happening to my epic4g. I think I reas something somewhere about a bad fs.I'm assuming that means filesystem. Only way I can think of to correct this is tow odin back to stock and start all over. That way the filesystem gets fixed. Also maybe try to format ur sd card. Of course don't forget to backup

Well, seeing as I am not using a custom ROM, I don't think the filesystem is the problem. I will format the card though, once I get the time for that and backups. But is there really no pattern for this happening?

Well, I won't do that just yet, because it hasn't happened since I posted this thread.
Also, it seems a reboot might fix it, as I had not reinstalled one of the lost apps (Nesoid), but after a reboot it magically returned. That or unmounting/remounting the SD card, not sure.
Hey guys Try unmounting and then remounting ur SD card it fix dis for me.

Hey guys I rooted my Atrix about a month ago using gingerbreak and I finally got a new Bluetooth for it but when I try to turn on the Bluetooth on the phone it attempts to then dose nothing. I have tried restarting the phone and it didn't work. I don't know what else I can do besides factory restoring it, and if I can avoid that I would like to. Any ideas besides that?
Thanks,
Adam
No one has any ideas?
I have the same issue on two different phones. A soft reboot usually gets it working again, until I toggle it off. Then it won't turn on til next reboot.
I have the same exact problem.... tried a lot of things, but none succedd

I tried battery pulling it and that didn't work either sadly.
Okay, Maybe this info helps. I believe its has something to do with a specific program being moved to the SD Card or sd card mounting.
I just had this happen. Bluetooth would not turn on at all. I decided to play Chuzzle and when my battery went low, I plugged the phone into my comp USB port. It disconnected the SD card in lieu of mass storage. Killed my game because it resides on SD Card. At this point, I decided to test bluetooth and it worked!! Don't have time to test it further but. I suspect something residing on the SD card maybe the culprit. Unfortunately, I have over 30 things on it so segmenting out is going to be a pain.
Do you all have programs on the SD card?
Yeah, i moved 111 apps using apps 2 sd... cant tell which one is related to bluetooth...
Sent from my MB860 using Tapatalk
I was having the same trouble and noticed that plugging in USB in storage mode would "fix" my bluetooth... I used Optimize Toolbox too clear all my cache and remove old SMS messages (after a backup) and bluetooth seems to be working again
*Edit* this didn't seem to last after I moved a few apps back to the SD card... I'm giong to keep messing with this...
after much pissing around with moving apps back and forth the internal SD card no longer mounts when i plug into my PC... interesting... I'll continue to report any progress I make
I've removed the physical SD Card and determined the problem lay in the internal SD Card...
ok after some seemingly "random" application moves from SD to phone I have this "working". I think it's a possibly corrupt internal SD but I haven't gotten any of the warnings that I see other people get where the phone explicitly says as much, however here is why I still suspect it:
as I was using Optimize Tool Box to move apps I noticed it was moving them rather slowly and taking a few extra seconds to re-load the app list, after one move (a Dolphin HD plugin full screen froyo incase that matters) I noticed the refresh seems snappier,
I went out to my home screen and hit a bluetooth widget and BT started working, I tried moving a couple different apps back and it stopped working.
Here is a full list of apps I moved OFF my SD in the event that it is still app related and a list of my apps might be handy to see who has common apps
Remote VNC Pro
My Tracks
Knots Guide
ConnectBot
Retro Defense
Best Apps
FBReader
Fullscreen for Froyo
Net Ping
AndFTP
Amazon Kindle
BlastMonkeys
KeePassDroid
Terminal Emulator
AndroZip
DailyComix
Dungeon Defenders
SilverEdit
Linux Commands
Handcent Emoji Plugin
Movie Free
My Backup Root
OSMonitor
Handcent SMS Skin(Metal)
SMS Backup+
Thinking Space
I hope this can help someone fix their phone or better yet get us a litter further towards an actual solution.
These are on my list. They should not be moved to SD:
Firefox
Brain Cube
Rugby
Anyway, the problem seems to be solved on 4.5.91. I've been moving apps all day and yet my bluetooth is still working.
Hello,
I've searched but nobody seems to have my particular problem. I moved a bunch of Apps via App2Sd from my Phone to my SD card, thinking it would help eliminate the "Insufficient storage device" error that kept popping up. It did the trick, but my phone became insanely slow as a response...and it periodically reboots every 1-3 minutes. I'm not quite sure what I did - or rather, how exactly moving Apps to my SD card could wrought such havoc on my phone. My phone is not rooted, and I have not made any effort to modify it beyond the normal means. Could anyone assist me? I'd appreciate it.

I have a very vague recollection of the stock recovery but I believe there is a way to wipe CACHE (not DATA) from it. Try that first.
Also, If you're not rooted then that app is not doing anything you can't already do on the stock rom. I would try moving the apps back and then get rid of that app. You can move individual apps through phone settings > applications. That app only moves apps that can already be moved by stock Android.
If all else fails you may be looking at a factory reset. That's the crummy thing about an unrooted phone, if something goes wrong you don't have many options.

I can't specifically remember, but I moved almost everything. It's likely that I moved my launcher, GoLauncher. As for widgets, I only have one widget, BusinessCalendar, and since that doesn't function from the SD card (as far as I know), I left it there.
In the end I removed my SD card and, predictably, the phone worked just fine. I wanted to avoid it, but I guess I'm just gonna mount and clear my SD card.

For some reason it seems not much people know that if all your apps are on your INTERNAL it will be extremely faster. The UI throughout the phone will significantly increase. Guarantee you that.
The phone has to locate read the app from the SD then boot it save data on SD= lag.
As above, and some apps do not play well on the external sd even though they can be put there. I'm pretty sure the launcher should be on the internal sd.
If you really are out of space on the internal, then only move one, or a small number of apps to external, and then only one at a time, to see the effects. Also, choose the ones you use the least.
I'd suggest you move everything back to the internal memory and see if the phone functions normally again. If so, then move apps to external as I mentioned above. If not, you may have to wipe data/factory reset and set everything up all over again.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S5 with update 6.0.1 with the latest security patch level applied 11/1/16. Recently my microSD card status will go between two indicators in the notification bar: 1) SD card - For transferring photos and media, or 2) SD card was removed, please insert a new one. In both cases the same micro SD card remains in the phone. When I receive the message that the card has been removed, I can click on Storage in the Settings menu and see that only internal storage appears. At some point the SD card will reappear with the message from #1. I can restart my phone, I can turn it off and back on again, etc. but none of those things seem to alter the phone status of identifying that an SD card exists in the phone. It's quite annoying especially when I want to take photos or am transferring data from internal storage to the SD card when it suddenly becomes "removed". However, again, the change from being considered installed/mounted or missing/removed will happen at any time whether I'm using my phone or not. I've started to wonder whether I picked up a virus by visiting a site while reading news through the Google Play Newstand., which I've been doing a lot lately,.. but I've installed/uninstalled at least 5 different anti-virus/malware software and nothing is identifying a problem on my phone. AVG, McAfee, Bitdefender, Kaspersky, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware.
The only other oddity I have noticed about the same time is that I have Verizon Protection and Support which suddenly acted like I had never used it before and made me agree to the terms of use again - once I say ok to the terms, it returns that it cannot access data and try again later. Nothing I have done related to that software has worked and Verizon's only suggestion is to factory reset in which some users indicated that did not resolve the problem.
Has anyone else experienced either of these issues and found resolutions? Thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Try Using your device without SD card for some time and then put that chip again. If the situation persist try wiping Cache of Your phone.
There is probably to many webdavs using all your cu. Obtrusive. To root or not to root. Providers say that root is what causes issues of vulnerability. You get these problems ether way but you can only fix with root.
What ever the problem is formatting your car should straighten it out. If you don't want to arrange your files a quick fix for webdav is to use root explorer. Search for "nomedia"and delete them all. Hopefully only apps you want have a good enough grip to put them back.

Thank you. I don't know how long you mean for "some time" but I did for about 30 minutes. I did use McAfee to clear app cache to free up space but I just checked and my current message is "SD card removed. Insert a new one" so apparently that didn't do it. I' did not allow it to clear thumbnails though.

Well, until now I considered myself fairly tech savvy... but I am not sure what webdavs are or what it means to root or not. Is root explorer software? And then, the next question is where would I search for "nomedia"? If you'd rather I do more research on these myself I can do that, no worries... but if they are easy enough to explain that would be great. Thanks so much!

Some time means at least a day.
And wiping Cache here I meant Clear the Entire Phone's Cache through Recovery
Good browsers have a search bar in them. A web dav is a network connection to a folder. If it is causing your card not to work now than likely it was put there by a demon and you want it gone. If you don't know what root is then you are a long ways out from putting up a fight. The only thing I could really advise you to do is do a factory reset that includes formatting the card. If you do ever decide to root be very careful the method.
