[Q] Stuck In Recovery Mode

Hi Guys,
I am getting kind of desperate. I keep rebooting into recovery mode. Then, the screen shows Fastboot mode started... udc_start (). I think it is stuck. I am using LG Optimus ONE (P500). I have tried battery pull a lot of times. Doesn't work. Any suggestions? If you suggest I reflash stock rom or something, tell me how please. Thanks.

for flashing original firmwares
If you choose to reflash stock ROM, here is what you need:
- tools: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=875881
- ROMs: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944881 or the link suggested in the tools thread
You may wait a little bit longer before reflashing to see if anybody has a better solution to your problem. Good luck!
More Questions... Help please if you can... Thanks
Hi All,
Thanks to those who have responded so far. I kind of needed the phone fixed ASAP, so I sent it for repair. But anyway, I have a few questions:
1)Is it possible to reflash stock ROM or a new ROM even if the the computer or Android SDK can't detect your device? (This is with the correct driver installed. When my phone was in the fastboot mode screen, it couldn't be detected as an LG Device at all when plugged in.) If you can, how?
2)For those who have successfully gotten a new ROM onto their Optimus One, how did you do it? Is there anywhere where the procedure can be found? And is it relatively safe? (I know there is always a chance you might brick your phone unless you are some expert, but there are some procedures that are safer than others right?)
3)This last question isn't really relevant to this forum section, but I'll ask anyway. Which phone models (any brand, preferably 2.2 onwards) are good for rooting and installing custom ROMs? Like, are there any phones that most rooting/ROM installing software supports? (For instance, I have heard that HTC phones can usually be flashed with custom ROMs without bricking that easily 'cos they are supported by stuff like ROM Manager etc.) And one more thing: what are the easiest/safest ways found to root/flash a new ROM?
Thanks everyone.

Yes it is possible, you'll need to firstly boot into 'emergency mode', by pressing volume up + back + power when the phone is off. Then follow these steps to flash stock rom. You do not use Android SDK at all, all you need is for the phone to get into the emergency mode, it is what most people with bricked phones do to reflash.

Personally, it was relatively easy for me even though I'm a new user to android. I've had my phone for 2 weeks and bricked it 3 times within the first 72 hours. But there are methods to get it back as I explained in Q1 XD In order to flash a new ROM, there are 3 MAIN steps.
1. root your phone
2. install custom recovery
3. make backup and flash new ROM
if you need help on certain individual steps, just post it here and I'm sure someone will help you.

In terms of the easiest method to root, it is definitely to simply run an app that can automatically root the phone for you, such as z4root, or SuperOneClick are just 2 examples. So I'll say whichever phones these app support, will be the easiest to root. ROMs will depend on the users of those phones and their dedication to creating customisable ROM. You can find most of the phones and available ROMs on this forum anyway.
Is it possible to exit emergency mode? Do you do a battery pull or something? I am planning to test out booting into emergency mode when my phone comes back from repair. Will it harm my phone? (Does it do stuff like wiping system data or my installed apps?) Thanks in advance to anyone who will reply.
I think you can just hold power to turn your phone off in emergency mode, but if it doesn't work, you can always pull the battery out. You didn't mention what you did for this problem to start but unless you perform the same thing, you won't need to use emergency mode.

when you said install a new rom, did you install it through kdz? if you did, try installing an optimus s rom through recovery. heres how:
download a rom on your computer
plug your phone in to you computer (with it already booted in recovery)
toggle usbms on your phone
transfer the rom to your phone
flash the rom

New official folio update (2.2.5.0131) - flashing is NOT recommended for new users!

this official update will lock your recovery options to flash custom roms!
so my recommendations is
AVOID OFFICIAL UPDATES, and you're safe
Its still ROOT'able, but no documentation atm, for how to revert back to a recovery, that works.. but if you can root,
the important part is to copy my "recovery.img" file to a location on your device ie. like /data/recovery.img
and from shell you execute
cat /data/recovery.img >/dev/block/mmcblk0p7
root works
hello, i little speak english...
PdaNet + SuperOneClick method works for root
Sorry double post...
for rooter, you must do this if the update took place from Service Station:
1. Start the Recovery -> Wipe Data / Factory Reset -> Reboot
2. Start normal and remove Toshiba Service Station and Market Place -> Turn off the Folio
3. Start the Recovery -> Wipe Cache -> Reboot
4. Start with the normal and new rooter SuperOneclick 1.6.5. - Turn off the Folio
5. Normal Start

other reported that it did not work on new updates. only on old stock before 0053.. so maybe someone can confirm this on new release.
Maybe you can do a 'safe' version of the new ROM for us that doesn't include the new lockdown? This is so tedious of Toshiba - I struggle to understand what they try to achieve by doing this.
I'm starting to think Toshiba deliberately want's to make this device useless.
Do they hate there first tablet so much they even punishing the people who bought it?

but can you flash a custom rom? its not much help if you need complex methods of installing / reverting back to another custom rom, so you recommendation might be users are stock on something they dont want..
AND!
users need to have a ADB connection to your folio, which again is not many regular users know how to do, so again making it much more complex to work with..
if will NOT RECOMMEND installing stock, for regular users.. you will spend hours on trying to get back to a custom rom, which is not needed at all.

Dexter, I'm confused. Or maybe I misunderstood. Why is it bad to flash to the new firmware when you can restore it back to factory settings? Coz once I can do that, I can get back my old firmware and flash custom mods again as before. Or would flashing to the new firmware make it the new default factory setting? Hmm....

This is such a bad move by Toshiba...at least make a proper product like Motorola then they can do these stupid stuffs
Oh no! I waited too long before ordering mine I've been told there's a new batch coming in March - obviously these will come with the new factory ROM!
Dexter, is there no way of putting on custom ROM's onto the device with this factory ROM pre-loaded?
That's part of the reason I ordered one - I like to tinker

seems it can be root'd after all, so its not all locked down, but i hope someone will write the "howto" for doing it, because its no so simple to revert it, but is possible..
Hello
How can I root it after this update? SuperOneClick doesn't do it.
What's 'PdaNet + SuperOneClick' method? What should one do to gain the root privileges?
One should find a SuperOneClick Tutoraial on XDA & follow it.
Works like a charm once you installed everything prior rooting procedure.

[Q] Planning on rooting, have a few ques

Hey guys
I have a lgp500 phone and i am thinking of rooting my phone, as i hate the touchscreen bug that makes the cpu go 100%, soo laggy
anyways i have a few questions that i would like to know about rooting before i attempt it.
firstly ill start by listing my phone software etc
Android version - 2.2.1
Kernal Version - 2.6.32.9
Build Number - FRG83
Software Version - V10b-DEC-13-2010
and now my questions
1. Well the most obvious question. Is it possible to root my phone?
2. My main ques - What are the chances of bricking my phone? as in to a point that would leave my phone completely useless.
3.At what steps of the rooting process can the phone be bricked?
4. How does rooting work? - basically i just want to learn about everything so i know how the system works and how kernal etc work - so that i wont do anything stupid when im rooting
for now thats all, but ill probly have a alot more once i get answers to these
please help
thanks
first of all u will need to downgrade to android 2.2.then u can root it and enjoy!

Not yet. Android 2.2.1 is not rootable at the moment. A downgrade to v2.2 is necessary, as upendra_p said.

At the downgrade, when you have to flash the phone with a different Android version using an application that sometimes fails. But that's rare.

"Rooting" simply gives various applications wider system rights, so that they are able to perform actions otherwise forbidden, such as messing with system settings and allowing critical system files to be modified or deleted. It also is an important step needed if you decide to install a custom ROM -- a modified and (usually) improved version of Android.
Rooting is not for the faint of the heart
However, keep in mind that you can find all the help you need on this forums...

about the chances on bricking my phone, i understand they are small
but approximately how small? like a number?
i understand its different for each phone, so how much would it be for my phone?
Well it depends on how well you read and follow the instructions.
I have installed Custom ROMs on a total of 3 phones with 100% success.
And in short Rooting is like being Administrator in Windows, you can do anything you feel like doing, even if that means bricking your device.

It's not the phone it's usually the user. You should never attempt to mess with something unless you know what you're doing. Take that from someone who actually bricked his phone by not knowing enough.
Best advice against bricking is never try to flash something that's not meant for your specific device.
And if you wanna put a number on it post your IQ.
Ahmmm... i just used z4root and in just one click, im already rooted. Very easy XD. The part where you should be cautious about is flashing back to android 2.2 that is where a lot of p500 get brick. Just read the forums more.
Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
@OP, just take note of the important steps & thing you should check before proceeding like turning LG modem off in device manager. though my friends have downgraded even without checking that option, its always better to follow the instruction to be safe.
& also after rooting, take your time when installing custom recovery. it is also responsible for bricking quite a few mobiles. i'll advice copy paste the commands to avoid any typo.

[Q] Please help, new to rooting & confused!

Hi all,
Firstly sorry, you must get this all the time and be really bored of helping but i would be so grateful if anyone out there can point me in the right direction.
Firstly my phone details;
Model - Xperia Z2 D6503
Firmware - 1278-4770_23.0.1.a.3.9
Network - EE
Rooting status;
Bootloader unlock allowed: No
I want to root my phone but after reading what seems like thousands of web pages im more than a little confused. Does anyone out there have a step by step guide for beginners?
I want to use cwm recovery but don't understand how to get that on the phone as most guides say use it to back up before doing anything else but it isn't there to start with!
Also will installing cwm wipe my phone and sd card?
Any help would be much appreciated and many thanks in advance.
You can only install nuts dual recovery on a locked bootloader, proper recovery is included in the kernel and the kernel can only be changed on an unlocked bootloader, there was a a guide to rooting in one of the forums and I assume towel root will work, just search the z2 forum you'll find it

Thanks for the response.
Is nuts recovery better or worse than cwm? Also i thought that towel root would not work with 4.4.4 at present?
Does the locked bootloader mean i cannot do certain things even after rooting my phone like install custom roms and kernals?
Many thanks

1) You cannot root the firmware you are on with a one click tool (like towelroot) at present. You have to downgrade to a lower firmware like 17.1.2.A.0.314 first and then root that, install a custom recovery and install a pre-rooted firmware package.
2) Your bootloader is hard locked by EE, this means that you will never be able to unlock it and install custom kernels nor custom ROM's what require custom kernels.
3) It is more than recommended to install [NUT]'s dual recovery, this installs PhilZ recovery (a more advanced CWM in my opinion), TWRP and CWM (to use CWM you have to install dual recovery manager from google play AFTER installing the dual recovery).
4) Now to downgrading, you will need to download a program called flashtool (this can be found in the Sony Cross Device development section) and the .314 ftf file (not .tft, ,ttf, .fft or any other variation people mis-spell it as). You will then need to install the drivers for your phone (these can be found in the flashtool drivers folder in the location you installed it, also if you have Windows 8 or 8.1 check my signature on how to disable driver enforcement before attempting to install the drivers.) There are plenty of guides on how to downgrade, there is even one in the firmware collection thread what can be found in the Z2 general section. Side note, when downgrading you will HAVE to wipe data and the cache (this can be selected when you are selecting the firmware to flash) or else you will end up with a phone what is in a bootloop.
5) After downgrading you will need to root, the easiest and simplest way to root would to be use the easy root toolkit (this can be found in the Sony Cross Device development section).
6) After rooting you will have to install [NUT]'s dual recovery (Sony Cross Device development section, you will need the installer file and not the flashable file).
7) After installing dual recovery you will need to flash a pre-rooted zip file of the latest update (Z2 Android Development section, I think the one by @niaboc79 is the best one to use). Alternatively you could install a custom ROM what is based on stock, it will tell you if it is.
If you need any more help, just tag me in the post (by using the @ symbol and then my user name) or PM me. Also, @Envious_Data is a great help in this device forum, helped me when I had a few queries about the phone before I got it and I have seen them help a load of people in the Q&A section.
@gamer649 Thank you for taking the time to help me, that has explained everything perfectly. I do however have a couple more questions i think you'll know about....
1 - Is there a back up app available that will do a similar back up to that of "apple". I mean reinstall all the apps i currently have and keep the home screen layouts and all data etc?
2 - In the link to the firmware downloads you gave me there is only 2 UK .314 ones and none of them are EE, shiuld i just use the unbranded one and what are the differences?
3 - The main reason i started looking into rooting was that i heard about a tweak to increase the volume of the z2 notifications by forcing it to use both speakers. Have you had any expierience with it and what other tweaks would you recomend?
Thanks again and i look forward to hearing from you again

1) You could try using the stock back up and restore app for that. Also, if you have your data backed up with your Google account it will start to reinstall all your apps along with their data once you sign in once you downgrade. @Envious_Data any other suggestions for a non-rooted device?
2) I always go for unbranded software, the reason being that there are no carrier apps nor carrier boot logos installed into the ROM and it is how Sony intended it to be. Apart from that I don't think there are any differences.
3) I don't usually have my phone on sound mode, it is either silent or vibrate so I can't help you with that one. You could take a look in the Z2 android development section to see what mods are available, some ROM's may also include this feature.

1. You can use root to copy all of your apps from /data/app and you can use flashtool to bulk install all of them
2. Branded firmwares occasionaly have some small changes for better reception on the selcted network but with 314 this doesnt actualy matter
3. Have a look around for some mods, and see if they are compatible with your current firmware version

Rooting an Alcatel 3v?

Hello there xda members, I am somewhat familiar with rooting android phones, however the last time I had done so was with was older HTC and I believe maybe it was a Sony about 2-3 years ago. I now have an Alcatel 3v and I've come to learn that rooting seems to be different on newer phones and the newer Android Oreo. I have managed to unlock the bootloader on my phone, and I have also downloaded the android sdk on my windows computer and am somewhat familiar with adb and Fastboot Commands, although I have only barely begun to understand Linux terminal commands. There is no version of twrp for my phone and I have not been able to find a stock firmware anywhere to go with the magisk method, as well none of the one click solutions have worked for my phone, including the ones requiring use of a pc and developer mode enabled. Im wondering if I can access the system folders and write to them through adb or fastboot using push / pull commands or if there is a way to make a stock boot. Img straight from my phone so I can patch it? If not is there any other possible way to root this phone? Any help would be appreciated.

The phone is project treble compatible so you could try flashing a GSI just make sure the GSI is A-only not A/B as the phone dosen't support seamless updates. There are tons of GSIs out there with root and gapps just choose which one you like but I would highly recommend taking a backup of your stock ROM as they haven't really got firmware downloads for this phone. Also after you have rooted I would recommend locking the bootloader again so any repair shops wont find out that the phone has been rooted. There is another way which is you could dump the boot image from the phone and install the magisk manager apk. Then patch your boot image through it and flash it with fastboot and now your stock rom is rooted.
I've been having difficulty finding a way to backup my stock rom without a rooted phone... I have looked into miracle box and sp flash tool and other programs but they so far seem either dated, contain viruses or don't do what they advertise / incompatible with my phone, or need root access to show partitions etc. also, with flashing a generic system image, are they device specific or is that the whole point of project treble, how they are universally supported? I want to keep my phone as close to stock as possible but with root access. If I could find a way to backup my boot image I could go the magisk method...

The Generic system images are universal because basically project treble separates the files that make the phone work such as the camera and fingerprint into a vendor partition which means manufacturers don't have to make new drivers to work with the new os update. The only issue on my phone which is the 3v 5099y (single sim with nfc) is that pie is very slow and laggy but everything works however oreo is very fast. I tried looking for a way to dump the boot.img but all i could find was tutorials for phones which either were rooted or had twrp. But i did find this tutorial which dumps the entire firmware although its very complicated https://android.stackexchange.com/q...nd-full-rom-without-root-for-mediatek-devices
For the cpu part though I would select mt6735 as the mt8735 is basically a rebrand
im so tired to root my alcatel 3v phone many try all method to rooting but almost field please help me
