No one should encourage or promote fraudulent insurance claims to acquire a cheap Droid Eris.
Bad idea, Gary Busey.

I want to upgrade to a Droid -- Help?

I love my eris and all but god damn I just can't take the trackball issues and I figure I may as well just opt out for the better phone...
I am on a two year contract though and I'm not even halfway through yet.
If I take my faulty Eris in to a Verizon store and ask them about an upgrade is it possible for me to just pay the difference for the droid? How will this work?
Oh and if the Verizon store is "out" of the Eris will they just give it to me?

No, they will tell you to call the customer service line and have them send you a replacement because the store has limited access where customer service can search warehouses nationwide.
=\ lame. But is there any way I can get the droid anyway? Regardless of whether they have Eris's or not?
Maybe for a discounted price. I was having issues with my Touch Pro that I had to get replaced 3 times and they offered me a Droid Eris for $130 or a Droid for $212. I took the Eris.

Call customer service. Tell them you want to upgrade early. Be friendly with them when they say no. Let them knwo you have been a customer for X amount of yrs and pay on time (this wont work if u dont pay on time or a fairly new customer) and if that you love their network and want to stay with it and if they could talk to their mgr to get it approved for an early upgrade.
Ive done this 3 times. Got 3 phones in 1 YR. But ive been a customer for 8YRS and a bill over a few hundred each month and pay on time.
Will this work for you? Maybe, but it doesnt hurt to try, right? Good luck.
FYI, this worked for me again getting the Droid X but I canned it after reading up more on it.
I've been a customer for... 5 years >_> lol
you canned the droid x? O_O I hope not because of the root thing? That'll be solved fast.
Maybe it was the motoblur thing that's what got me

Verizon just sent me a phone for trackball issues(suppose to be here tomorrow), I asked about switching they flat out said no.... he also hinted that they don't useaslly make that offer until they have switched a phone 2-3 times for defects ... but I will be happy with a rooted eris with a trackball that works, only reason I didn't return it earlier is I didn't want to lose root
good luck ad let us know...some say it's all about who you talk too
I may go today... I'm so lazy >_>

Possible trade for Droix x2

I might trade my Thunderbolt for a Droidx2 tomorrow.. any thoughts? I had the first X and I loved it. I traded it for an incredible for the roms.
Can anyone confirm or deny the following:
x2's camera > TB
x2's video/gaming > TB
4g is a plus but not a dealbreaker for me.
my opinion: i like motoblur over sense (if i don't modify, which is a reason i am considering trading)
any input would be great. i know it is late, especially on the east coast but i am hoping for some quick responses. thanks

Up to you man. The TB is definitely more desirable due to custom ROMs. However, this phone is future proof, and based on the recent acquisition, we might be in good shape. P3's preroot is money debloated...

it is, arguably, a hassle due to the 4g. sometimes you will lose 4g and need to flash a new radio/kernel/rom and no one else will experience the same issue.
has an OTA been released with gingerbread yet?
Yes but it's recommended to use p3s prerooted gingerbread, and other than the 4g the X2 stomps the Thunderbolt

yep, i am going to do it.
just put my TB back to stock and it runs so much better haha. the downside of that is the fact i hate sense and it is a total battery hog.
is netflix available for the x2 stock? or does the x2 need to be rooted with a modded netflix app?

I would very much recommend using the eclipse rom as well... Very simple process and very much improved over stock

After playing around with a Thunderbolt and an X2 i defaulted to the X2, and I must say with all the tweaking I've done it is hands down the best phone I've ever had.
Never owning a TB but having owned the X and now an X2 I like the X2 for its speed but the memory is a little lacking every now and then a game will tell me the memory is low and that it may close unexpectedly. I have always liked the Moto quality for reception and other components and having toyed with a few other HTC phones, locked bootloader and all Moto still gets my bet too.
I came from a Thunderbolt. The lack of roms on the x2 makes me sad considering the large dev support for the tbolt. Honestly, the proformance of a non overclocked cm7 bolt was about the same as the x2 in the real world.

Just curious.... How is it that you are able to "trade" phones at will? Dont you have a service contact with time restrictions?

Don't know about the tbolt, but there were so many missed call issues on the fascinate that Samsung sponsored a swap thru vzw for fascinate owners. We got to choose between the x2, the dinc2 or the charge.

I have switched many phones on my Verizon contract and never charged . Why would they charge you , you are still paying for their service .
If flashing custom roms and 4g is important to you, then go for it. The X2 should be getting more dev support soon..hopefully..
Oh and I'm pretty sure the TB's camera is better than the X2's. Consumer Report rated it as the #2 or #4, I can't remember, best cell phone camera. The X was last, and it has the same camera as the X2.

The conventional wisdom is that Verizon allows you to "upgrade" (at the upgrade price) only once every 24 months. While you can trade "upgrades" between various phones on your service contract, you must pay the full retail price of the phone to change phones before being eligible to upgrade.
When I got the X2, I asked if I could trade it for a Samsung Galaxy S2, if that were to be released in the next few months. They said that after 14 days I was stuck with the phone until upgrade time. They said they never resell a used phone, even if returned within the original 14 days. They told me they send them back to Verizon who "refurbishes" them and then they may resell them at a discount online.
So I'm still wondering how you are able to work out these trade deals? Anyone else ever hear of this, other than the Samsung sponsored offer?

Your thinking wayyyyy toooo much ....
lol, lets say you find a phone on craigslist and you want it . First you check esn to ensure it can be activated on another account , then if you like it , then simply get it and swap your phones on your Verizon account .. Understand now ? It really is , just that simple .

Oh. Well yeah, you can do that.
Before trading out for a droid x2 you may want to look into all the audio problems people have reported. I personally have experienced very bad audio skipping while using my x2 and no hacks tips tricks super charges or roms have resolved the problem. I keep my fingers crossed for a solution but if I were you and liked listening to Pandora Slacker or any other audio on my phone I would stay away from the x2 for now

I am selling my xt910

I was one of the early adapters who paid full price for it. Been waiting for 3 months for the promised bootloader unlock solution but instead of solution, motorola just made me feel stupid with my money. Check out the following thread for the words of treachery.

Honestly, whenever i take my xt910 outta my pocket, i remember i was cheated. I will probably buy used atrix or photon.
Happy days to everyone with their Razrs.

Why don't you just root & download & flash 2.3.6?
It's not that hard. 2.3.6 is visually different but I don't see a grat improvment over 2.3.5.
Stop fretting, Your not missing much.
Enjoy the Razr

It is almost impossible. I work for verizon and I have the same problem. I want to get my razr exchanged to razr maxx but they would not allow me. Sometimes it is better to be verizon customer that employee when it comes to exceptions. Now I am looking for a cheap broken razr maxx to swap the battery.

The brick and mortar can not do any exceptions usually but if they do exceptions usually it is a brand new phone since they don't carry replacements. Over the phone it is easier than the store but the chance is 1 to 100. In order to make an exception the customer service looks at how long you have been with verizon(preferably 8 years or longer). The payment/credit history and call in rate. For the past 1-2 of you have paid all the bills on time, no credits has been issued(does not matter for what reason). If you don't call verizon quite often. The last but most important is how much you pay. If you pay $300+ per month on your bill. If you meet all those qualifications. You have higher chance of getting an exception. Don't be rude it will not get you anywhere. Be polite and have facts, why it is beneficial for verizon to switch your phone to maxx.

$100 Credit for Upgrade (For Everyone)

https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/ci/documents/detail/2/motorola-jelly-bean-rebate_en-US
Basically, if Motorola doesn't upgrade your 2011 Motorola smartphone to Jelly Bean they will (most likely) give you a $100 credit towards a new phone. Limited details right now but I signed up for alerts. Rumors are X2 will be one of these phones.
So if you are looking to a new phone I would wait a few weeks. I'm probably going to be switching to the Razr Maxx HD (complicated name!) when it comes out and a $100 credit would be amazing!
Opinions? Anyone still use an X2 besides me?
I'm not so sure if it would be worth it. You need to trade in your old phone and the x2 is selling for at least 100 on swappa and other sites so why not choose cash over a gift card?
Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk 2
It's tempting...the $100 plus I do like how strong the build quality of this motorola phone is and the razr's do seem pretty tough as well, but I will probably pass and get something like a samsung note 2 or an htc incredible x that does/will have an unlocked bootloader. Plus I dont want to trade in my X2...rather keep it as a backup or wifi device that my kid can play on.
Sent from my DROID X2 using xda app-developers app
We're definitely not getting JB. $100 is nice, but it's probably towards only moto devices. Which is fine. Razr HD for me when my upgrade is active.

How long does the offer last? My upgrade isnt available until April of next year. $100 off a $550 phone is still expensive. I'll probably end up switching from Motorola anyway when the time comes.

Your upgrade should bring it down to $200, plus the $100 off. And since you have moto now, they should honor it well into next year. My upgrade is in March, but I might swing in around January and see if I can get it a month or two early.
Definitely sticking with moto. I've had numerous Samsung devices that I've needed to have replaced. Not a single problem with my DX2, and it takes a serious beating. Moto definitely makes the best physical handsets, period.

We still have an Ally getting used everyday in our household. It looks a bit worn, but not bad. It even survived a run in with a toilet, lol.
