Does anyone know an app that will actually do this linking? I was hoping to not have to use 3rd party apps to sync every time I connect my phone...

Why need 3rd party app???
First u need to login to ur facebook account..Setting tab >> Data& Services
Go to People tab >> All people >> choose contact >> move the slider on the bottom to the 4th from left...link the facebook account...then click update...

The facebook app that comes with the phone isn't really an app, it is just friendstream, no? When I signed it, it downloaded ALL of my contacts instead of just those with a matching entry in my phone which I can do with the Facebook app. How do I change that?

can you not find the official facebook app in the market? I personally use Bloo as my FB Client and just sync my FB contacts through Settings > Accounts & Sync > Add new > Facebook
I can but want to understand what the integrated solution does
Go to the Sync option remove your facebook there and then add it again it will ask for the option if you want to sync matching contacts or all of them.

Add Facebook or Facebook for myTouch? Regular Facebook doesn't do anything when pressed. Facebook for myTouch doesn't give me the option.

Use facebook for mytouch, after doing that wait for some time and it will notify you that you havd contactd simmilar to your fb account and if you wanna sync them

Go to your contact list, click menu and view. It will let you decide which acccounts you want it to show in your contact list.
Facebook for Mytouch never syncs contacts for me, it gives me the "sync is having problems now" message. Anyone experience this?
Mine worked fine but there is an option under the contacts settings to make only contacts with phone numbers show. That is really nice.
I disabled this cause even when I select use google pic, some how a few contacts would still revert to facebook over time. Too frustrating for me.
Now that we have perma root... does anyone know if removing the facebook for mytouch app will cause any problems? I would like to pull it off and put on the market version. I plan on making a backup and trying it myself but was wondering if anyone had any insight before I try.

I synch, as usual, with my Google account, but no contacts in default application ?
( just favorites !??? )
But I tried Go Contact, and this one show correctly my contacts !?
Any idea why default contact app does not show them ?

Weird, I synced my google contacts and it worked just fine.
My favorites are in my favorites, and my normal contacts are all where they should be...are you sure it actually synced?
When you are in contacts, press Menu > Filter > Google (your google e-mail) and check/uncheck whats neccesary. Maybe you haven't check some groups?

That's how all my android phones have worked actually Just check the groups you want to use and you're good to go.

Good afternoon. I am also a delighted owner of xperia s but I have some problems.
I don't know the way to uninstall applications. For example in the folder setting/account settings and sync I have facebook and gmail. How can I uninstall these? And specifically in the facebook acoount there is an option about picassa sync.I want to remove it but there is no way.
On my previous galaxy s there was a folder where there were all the applications and there was a button " uninstall " next to each app.
Also i can't free up my memory. How can I do this?? Please help.

1. Pre-installed applications are not always uninstallable - this is on Samsung too. However, just like on all Android devices, you can go Settings -> Applications -> Manage applications and uninstall what can be uninstalled.
2. Free up your memory? Which one? RAM, local etc? The Xperia S has more than enough of internal memory and RAM, I'm not sure what issue you are having unless you were so limited by the Samsung that you are now paranoid.

I second that.. And you also can uninstall applications from the applications menu.. Just click on the right bottom icon and you can see which applications that can be uninstalled with X marked on them.. Click on them and it'll ask you if you want to uninstall.. This is easier that going to settings every time

to stop picassa you need to go to the "Google+" app log in then go to photos once that opens press the options hot key and go to settings, scroll down and un check automatic uploads.

I did what you say but the option picasa sync still exists on my gmail account. I want to remove this option.Somewhere in this forum I read that you can remove it so that it does't consume battery.

Today I am goin to show a application called Chrome to phone . This is simple yet a very effective application to transfer links from our desktop to our android
Note :You need Gmail accounts to make this work. and the gmail account on the phone and browser should be the same
Firstly, we need a Google chrome browser > Go to the Chrome store >and search Chrome to Phone > Choose the first option from the list that appears and click Sign in to add > enter ur email id and password and click >add to chrome. You will see a phone like icon on the right side of ur browsers address bar.
Next , Go to Play store and search Chrome to phone and install it. This app may not be for some countries in the play store. For those users search in google for the .apk file . Install the application on the phone .
Next, Click the phone like icon on the right side of ur address bar. It will ask u to sign in to ur gmail account . It will redirect u to a grant permission page. Grant it permission . Dont worry it wont harm ur account
Now, go to the application on android . as the application launches > press next> It will show select an account to choose >Select ur gmail account press next . Now ur phone is linked with ur android and chrome

I disabled auto-sync (System settings-> Accounts) and I have stopped getting mails (gmail account) via stock gmail app.
1. If I want to use the stock gmail app, my Auto sync must be ON all the time in order to get mails via gmail ?
2. Is there a another way to use the PUSH method via stock gmail app when auto-sync is off ?
3. Does the only way to use PUSH and auto-sync off is using 3rd party app ?

3. Yes, third-party apps are the only way. They receive mails much faster too, like an instant messenger, without the need to enable Autosync.
Good examples are K9 mail (free), and kaiten mail (paid),

u have to install and check the same wakelock factor ma8, to monitor the same(wakelocks) u can use 'Better Battery Stats' app and see
