Hey guys. I'm running Aloysius V12 and have been using Beautiful Widgets. Love the look and it's fairly reliable as far as the time/date/weather go, but whenever I plug my phone into the computer, the style reverts to stock. I am very particular about the way it looks, because the way I have it now looks quite good with my wallpaper, but when it reverts, it doesn't match up well. Not really a big deal in the grand scheme of things since I just have to restart the widget, but curious to see if anyone knows why the USB plug-in would make any difference. I have had this issue on BW 2.998 and 2.999. As a side note, does anyone know how to change the date font? Changing the clock font has no bearing on it, and neither do weather skins. Thanks in advance.

Beautiful widgets says, in its own documentation, that it doesn't work with SenseUI.
This is partially true. It works, sometimes, and for a while. my buddy has a small widget on his home screen that he has no troubles with, but I've used the brightness widget, a home screen one, and others.
I've had Sense randomly force close on me (MANY MANY times), when tapping the widget (or sometimes for seemingly no reason at all - presumably when the widget updates), and so on and so forth.
They 'Work', but they aren't reliable, that I've seen. I haven't used them since like 2.7 or so.
That's odd that the font changes when plugging it in.
I've been to their site a couple of times, but guess I didn't run across that. I asked this same question on android forums and the response had to deal with BW skins are saved on the sd card and once it is plugged in, then it doesn't have access to them anymore. I'm not sure if this is the exact reason, but makes as much sense as anything else I've thought of. Too bad it's not more reliable because the only competition that I have seen is Weather Widget donate. I don't have anything particularly against that one, but just can't customize it get the look I am going for...

I'm gearing up to get my first Andoid phone hopefully next month, and was wondering if there's a port or an app already out there that's similiar in look and functionality as S2U2?
thx.
There's Lockbot out there ;-)
It has iPhone lock style, Hero lock style, Donut lock style and even flair lock style!
Good new: it's free except uf you want to download skins (which doesn't even work on my magic) or want the flair theme (which is the ugliest one)
and even free version let you customise your own themes
cheers
Maybe "Lock 2.0" many skins available for this app!

Thanks!
Lock 2.0 sure looks just like it.
Yes,you can get a free demo or buy full version!
Just bringing this back up since I just got a new Evo and am coming from a Touch Pro which had S2U2. I have tried some of the options on Android, but have not found anything even close to S2U2.
Does anyone have any other thoughts on how to get my calendar entries, notifications, texts, etc to show up on my lock screen (it also needs to look as good as S2U2 did 2 years ago).
Thanks.
Check out WidgetLocker.
I think it's by far the best lock screen replacement, and is fully supported by the developers at the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=732986
You should just youtube search "widgetlocker" and you'll see many video reviews of it in action. Note: hardly any of the videos go over the fact that it can change from stock Android slide to HTC slide even to iPhone slide to unlock.
And to rs1990, yes it can add whatever widget you can think of including ones relevant to everything you mentioned.
Funny that you just mentioned WidgetLocker. I am actually looking at that right now. It seems ok at this point, but not as polished as S2U2 is.
I actually think that the problem that I have right now is that the calendar widget kind of stinks. I am looking for a widget that just shows any upcoming events and nothing if there are none upcoming. The default one shows that obnoxious white box that says "No upcoming calendar events," which is ridiculous.
OK, I just found Pure Calendar and it looks somewhat promising. It will allow me to put a nice looking widget in WidgetLocker to show my entries. So, I am going to look into that a bit and see if it suits my needs.

WidgetLocker + Android Agenda Widget + Music Mod Widget + Beautiful Widgets = NO reason to ever unlock
You could try CalWidget

You might want to try CalWidget http://www.androlib.com/android.application.net-eggenstein-android-calwidget-qxjt.aspx - sorry I don't have the Marketplace url.
It's not bad. Can be a bit slow to load up and refresh but it's surprisingly good for a free productivity app. And it works well with WidgetLocker
Is there a way to get something beautiful and usefull like S2u2 for android? i think Lock 2.0 is a real flop, widgetlocker is ok but s2u2 is way better... i would say it's the best lockscreen i've ever seen.
There is nothing even close to S2U2 on android. I only miss S2U2 app from WinMo world. There was so many options/customizations..
I agree with both of the last 2 posts...S2U2 is unmatched on Android. I have "settled" on using WidgetLocker and Pure Calendar. It's ok, but not as good as S2U2.
I agree 100 percent with both of you. WinMo was ok... android is great... but damn... i miss s2u2 like hell.
s2u2 is the swiss pocketknife or Macgyver of lockscreens...
Yeap,
I also miss S2U2 from WinMo. I just bought a new android phone (ZTE Link) and I do miss S2U2. May A_C could port S2U2 for android? Does somenone knows him?
The application I think is closest to S2U2 is GOTO (although its paid :-()
Best,

WidgetLocker, as already mentioned in this thread, is a very capable, attractive, and flexible lockscreen replacement. There are also others on the market.
I for one won't miss the random "won't unlock" weirdness with S2U2, although infrequent, sometimes I had to yank the battery to get out of it as the screen would be frozen after. SOMETIMES I could long-power press and get the reboot dialog and I could get to a task manager and kill it but usually it was stuck.
Is there any possibility that the creator of WinMo S2U2 try to code that app for Android? Or make some coop with somebody who can do that for/with him?
Asked somebody something like this to creator of S2U2??
Thanks so much.
tomas
I can just agree to the above, the only thing i miss on Android is S2U2 and G-Alarm. I tried widget locker and i had to reinstall my whole system. When it was active i pulled the right thingy on the locked screen and then it was all black and locket. But i liked it the little i did see when i was exploring it. Now i don't dare to install it again..
EDIT:
Yesterday i tried LockBot but it could not get it to work at all, when i read what it could do it was ONE of the most imprtant thing i miss from S2U2, it was locking the hardware buttons. But nah... no go here either.
I never used S2U2, but what are the features all of you miss so much from it? In the videos I see on youtube, I don't really see anything that makes it standout from any other lockscreen, like WidgetLocker...
The key with widgetlocker is getting the right widgets installed to work with it, but because of that it is pretty much infinitely flexible.
At the moment I'm using LauncherPro, but I don't remember seeing an option for this in any other launchers.
It would be nice if we could specify different widget layouts for landscape/portrait, and if possible different grid sizes. Widgets never behave well when switching between orientations.
No idea if this is possible, but it could be handy.
That would be real nice. I have that same thing on mine when switching back and forth. I am not sure that would be possible either, but wouldn't bet against these guys here that it couldn't be. They do some really amazing stuff..
+1
I think I was able to do this with spb mobile shell on my win 6.5 Ph...
In retrospect, switching layouts is a hacky solution. None of the current phone-based launchers feel right on a tablet. VTL is decent but it still has the same core problem.
They're functional of course, and with 3.x and onwards it might be less of an issue. A completely unique launcher would probably be required to have a "desktop" that felt native to the form factor.
For the time being the best solution is probably just to lock to a single orientation. Moving away from the widget/grid system completely would be nice, but I'm not sure how much could be done within the current android framework.
Sweeter Home 2 does this. I've been using it for a while in the past for exactly this reason and just gave it another try. It's a public beta, so keep that in mind.
It lets you create your very own interface with independent layouts for portrait and landscape. It takes some time to get used to its complex edit mode but once you've figured it out, you can do some pretty neat stuff with it. Also, it syncs with an online database to automatically sort your apps in different categories
Sadly, there's no support for scrolling widgets. It's also pretty resource-heavy, so it gets killed pretty often and eats some battery. This can be improved by disabling automatic syncing, though.
Here are some screens of my setup. I can upload it as a theme if anyone wants to try it (Dunno if the theme thingy works as intended, though. Haven't tried it)
Hey looks nice. I'll be keeping an eye on that.

I'll have to give it a try...
So, I've seen that there are a few nice widgets that allow you some control over the design of the widgets. BITS is very very customizable, Zoom looks amazing, so does Widgetsoid, and Beautiful Widgets are indeed beautiful.
I'm looking for one that allows a specific thing, though, and I'd rather not go through what I did with Beautiful Widgets (installing it, being very disappointed, uninstalling, finding I'm just a few minutes beyond the refund time period, emailing the very-helpful developer and asking for a refund anyway, and they're very nice people by the way).
Also, please be understanding; I've had a migraine coming and going for a week and a half, and I'm trying my best to distract myself from it. So this info is probably available but I just can't *find* it. I can't manage to brain properly, I just can't. Please excuse the rambling...
So. I like the size and look of the HTC Sense clock on my Sensation--the one that takes up half the screen but is very large and has nice contrast--and also the location/temperature/high-low predictions on it. I *love* the BITS ability to stick anything anywhere in the widget, and to have an app or shortcut launch from the anything.
Is there a design-your-own-widget that is as pretty as the Sense clock, with the same location/weather info, but will let me stick battery indicator and shortcuts all over it? And make, say, the location launch Maps, and the date launch my calendar, and so on? It doesn't look like I can manage that with Widgetsoid or BITS, Beautiful Widgets won't let me show all the info I want to show at the same time, and Zoom is just plain intimidating. I'm sure there are more make-your-own-widgets but these are the ones I've found so far.
Is this out there? Can it be done?
Thank you!

I would recommend Minimalistic Text. I'm not sure it will do *exactly* what you're asking it terms of design (but the possibilities are truly endless). There's a slight learning curve if you've never used anything like it, but once you get it figured out... you're likely to never look back.
Also, it's been a while since I've used it, but have you tried Fancy Widget? Back in the day it was a mirror image of the Sense flip clock, but it's come a long way... it was pretty customizable last I checked. Both apps have a free and paid version in the Market. Good luck.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Well, hey, I didn't know that was what Fancy Widgets was That looks like it *almost* can manage everything I want. So very close, terrific! It only has fixed info it can display, but it can start any application I want from the info it does have.
I've edited one of the backgrounds to stick icons next to the places where I've selected them to start, and that'll do for now. Thank you so much!
Minimalistic text definitely didn't agree with the on-again-off-again migraine, though Maybe I'll futz with it again some other time. I'd really like a pretty 4x2 clock that also has actual shortcuts with relevant icons embedded in it.
I wish the battery indicator on Fancy Widgets stood out a little more, even were just a different color of text. I wonder if that's possible.
To begin with, I'm far from new to Android, just new to Samsung and the Note.
Also - I know I'm not the only one with this problem but I haven't run across a solution yet. I can take and image I want to use as a wallpaper and, on the lock screen and the Touch whiz home screen and it looks exactly like I want it to. But, since I'm one of those folks who dislikes the fact that I can't swap out apps on the TW launcher bar, I slap my own launcher on the Note to make it mine again. Unfortunately, then comes the annoying part.......
Whatever photo I put up as wallpaper looses resolution and seems to explode in size so that only about 1/4 of the original wallpaper/ photo is visible and what's left is very blurry. I know this isn't limited to just one launcher - I've tried ADW, Launcher Pro, Nemus, Go Launcher, Holo, and a few more I can't remember the names of right now. And they all give me the same problem.
So far I've changed the format of the wallpaper photo to .png or .jpeg and back again, tweaked the size and resolution of the picture, dug through XDA and a few other forums fort wisdom, and used harsh language on my Note - all to no avail. So, can anyone tell me what I'm missing or if there's any hope for me at all? I'm rooted stock 2.3.6 and would prefer, for various reasons, to stay that way for now. But, at this point I'm willing to consider options if all else fails since I'm getting quite annoyed by this.
Thanks for any help/ insight!
Use the Quickpic app to set the wallpaper.
Thanks! I'll give that a shot.

Hello all!
Been using Themer for some days now, and it's just great compared to other launchers out there. I tried GO launcher but hated the ads and 'chinese style'. Tried Nova too, but it was too similar to TW in my use. Themer is both original and not-pushy.
I use the HUD theme, which looks great and keeps the kids away from my phone (because it looks so weird ). One thing I don't really care about is the weather. I have a weather app I use daily to check the weekly forecast, I go out a few times a day, I have windows in my house so I can check the weather by turning my head... I really don't need Themer telling me the wrong weather anymore.
So, my request: could someone swap the weather widget to show something else, like core temp? I know I could do it myself, but it would take weeks and most of you can probably do it in a few minutes.

Hi there!
Having something like core temp is a bit tricky, as the widgets we provide don't really include that option.
Have you tried going into Themer Settings - Weather - then changing your weather provider - this might fix your temp problem.
You could always post the theme's wallpaper (found in Themer Wallpapers in your Gallery) and we could try Photoshop the "temperature" text and replace it with something else instead?
Changing the provider doesn't help. It still shows 0 all the time.
I can't think of much else to fill the empty space with. While I was quickly checking how the themes are built, I noticed that there's a line in launchersettings.xml that looked weird:
Code:
<string name="com.mycolorscreen.themer.wallpaper_transistion">slide</string>
Is it really supposed to be 'transistion' and not 'transition'?
Anyway, onto the request again. I'm starting to feel OK with the weather filling the space. I think I have figured out something though: I have all my location things off, so it mught cause a problem for the weather widget. Ideally I'd like it to work so that you have an option to lock your location (just use the one it has now and lock it or type it in) and then it just regularly sends weather data on the same location to the widget. Now it seems to try to fetch your location, then send it to the weather service and that sends the data back to widget. I don't travel much so having a locked location would be a nice thing to have in the widget. Only time the widget has chances of updating the temp is when I go geocaching
Does it even work like that?
