Hi to all,
I've been reading for a few weeks trough the forums and I've read lots of "How to's" but, it seems like Hero's from Telus are different. I can't create a backup image, I can't run the RUU driver... Flashrec will not work at all... I've done the SDK part and my gold card but that's about it! If ANYONE can help, I would appreciate it! I'm not looking for anyone to do the job for me, like I said, I've been looking and reading around for a few weeks and I tried a lot of stuff...!
Thanks in advance!
Sorry for posting in the wrong section... :-S

Well, you've made the goldcard which is good. This is the most tricky part IMO.
Some beforehand tips:
-Before doing this you may want to back up your SMS, call log, APN list, etc.
-Before flashing any ROM do a Nandroid Backup. Do this after flashing the custom recovery image (example RA-hero-v1.6.2) and before flashing your first custom ROM. That way IF there is any problem, you can do a nandroid restore to the downgraded ROM.
-If you haven't already, review some of these videos: http://theunlockr.com/category/howto...ro-g2-how-tos/
Okay, go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=645253 and look at "Section III, Downgrade the Hero using the Goldcard". Install the Sync for Telus Hero just to be safe, not the UK version from the guide. Now follow the directions and downgrade. Be sure to have already powered on the phone with the goldcard inserted so the goldcard can do it's job.
Go back to the top of the guide and follow the steps. Done!
Now enjoy the freedom of not being tied to 1.5. I rooted about 3 weeks ago and am enjoying the new found flexibility and customization.
hey guys,
I'm also on telus trying to root my phone. I get into the bootloader and then i get a model incorrect error.
My current build is
2.73.661.46
I've tried downgrading to
RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_1.76.405.1_R3_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe
and
RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe
with the same error.
The card is correctly goldcarded as far as i can tell. It would have given me a different error message if it was the goldcard.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem. My card appeared to be goldcarded but it really wasn't. I then followed the same procedure with a different memory card reader, applied the downgrade and it worked!
Try another card reader if you can.
Oh, and I ended up using the 2.73.405.5 RUU in the end.

Cool, thanks for the help. I'll have to go digging around for another reader.
so i tried to find another card reader here at work but couldn't find one.
I did some more reading and saw a lot of people were having success with the phone as the card reader and I figured i would give it another try.
It took me a while to actually get the correct drivers on Windows 7 because for some reason it keeps reseting to the wrong ones every time i restart the computer. I eventually got the RUU talking to the phone again and it didn't work.. again.
I then though i would try redoing the goldcard. I guess the goldcard was my problem after all. I forget what tut i was reading but it said to replace the first 2 characters with 0's. I did that but must have deleted one too many characters or missed a character in my copy/paste. I saw that another tut said that the website i used replaced the first 2 characters for you so i just copied / pasted the full code into it and used that goldcard image and it worked fine.
Now to flash villian 6.2

It took a while but i finally managed to get 2.1 working on my US Dell Streak.
I'll post instructions soon. I gotta get some sleep.
well done looking forward to the HOW TO and welcome to the streak family
Here.
http://android.modaco.com/index.php?s=&showtopic=315788&view=findpost&p=1376331
Wow guys. Great stuff.
Just got it working on my stock Sim-free (unlocked) Dell Streak bought from Dell
I had the same issue last night so was thinking of waiting for the official release.
I am not sure why are people going back to 1.6. Even this is Beta, it is way better than the original one.
It's snappy and everything works. I actually liked the new keyboard. Also, Swype starts working with no force closing.
I didn't have any issue with Market.
Anyways, for those who couldn't get this running on 00 model, I had to flash it to 21.
The only drawback is it now shows O2 logo (which is removable). Its still unlocked as I am using it on 3 Australia.
Apart from what everyone has quoted here on getting this running, I had to:
1. Flash the Koush's custom Recovery (Thread, Directlink)
2. Install the Modaco ROM using Recovery. You need to select Update.pkg which will start the custom recovery. In custom recovery screen, choose option to apply rom update.zip - I think 2nd option from the menu. (this changes the Model to 21) (Thread, Directlink)
3. Flash stock Recovery (Thread, Directlink)
Just place the .img file from here into the same folder as in step 1 and rename it to the .img file name there. Follow the same steps on how to install Recovery using fastboot.
4. Place 2.1 package from this thread and rename it to Update.pkg in root of SD
5. Install the 2.1 beta from Recovery (i.e. PowerOff, PowerON + VolUp + VolDown)
The first time it started, I logged into Google account via 3G rather than Wifi (it might have worked otherwise, I guess)
Everything worked. I didn't have much to back up except apps which I did through Astro File Manager (Free).
Multi-touch works on the games I tested so far. The system looks more stable. I also did a few test calls. I was running System Lite to view the apps/processes running in the background. I experienced better task management, may be thanks to Eclair.
I can find two minor bugs so far:
* Although I couldn't reproduce it after booting the device, my screen orientation stopped changing automatically (May be caused by some app)
* You can't drag apps from the drop-down application list to the Home screen. (Work around is to add it directly from the Home using Short-cuts > Applications)
EDIT: Just updated some links for people who don't know their way arounds.
Please let me know if you need more help, with step by step guidance. I personally thinks it's not needed as everything is in these threads.

Thank you sir, glad to be here. Please take a look at MSigler's post because that's exactly how i did it. But here is a step by step guide with links.
1. Install Koush's Custom Recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=754563
2. Flash Modaco Custom ROM
http://android.modaco.com/content/dell-streak-streak-modaco-com/312386/30-jun-r1-4399-modaco-custom-rom-for-the-dell-streak-with-online-kitchen/
3. Download 2.1 Update
http://www.mediafire.com/?bb9cvm5uaap2z8k
Save it to the root of your memory card and rename it to Update.pkg
4. Flash Stock Recovery
http://android.modaco.com/content/dell-streak-streak-modaco-com/314313/how-to-get-your-streak-back-to-factory-condition/
Just follow steps 1,3,4,5,6,7 (download the stock recovery, ignore the stock ROM)
5. Optional Root
http://www.mediafire.com/?o583zkt5hvhu5ma
Save anywhere on your memory card, use a file manager to install it. Run, then you have instant root with unroot option.
When it reboots you should have 2.1 with no market issues.
this seems like too many steps. I had success just by using stock everything (recovery and rom) and then flashing 2.1 using the stock method. Root works too!
With a non o2 UK device?
This is for people who need o2 ROM first. And you can only get it f.e. with an unlocked Dell that way.
Regular method didn't work with mine since i had a 00 unit. Had to find someway to update to a newer build.

Me, too. Have a 31 UK unlocked device.
But with the above method I got stuck at the dell logo. So I posted my method at the Modaco forum (after step 3, flash original 21 Dell o2 ROM, then 2.1 ROM)...
Greenarcher... THAT ROCKS. Excellent directions...not a single problem encountered.
Thank G O D!!
Any chance you'd have a suggestion on how I can remove the O2 boot screen?
2.1 is great... cant wait for 2.2 on the Streak.
I just wanted to give a public THANK YOU!
I have a 00 beta US Streak and the Modaco and StreakSmart methods I'd tried to get 2.1 resulted in a "e: no signature / verification failed" error. I followed your method here exactly, and now I have 2.1 working on my US beta (not ATT) Streak!!
Thanks so much man!
Hello,
I'm new to the fourms.
I have the Euro Unlocked Dell streak Model number ending in 00. ( Im in the US using the device on AT&T)
I'm trying to do this update.
Ive installed the Custom recovery software or so I think I did.
Followed the instructions, it says Fastboot Download done on the streak after I run the program to flash to a custom recovery software. ( just sticks on this screen) so I removed the battery.
and then copied the files for the custom rom to the SD and renamed the zip file Update.zip ( exactly as shown)
Boot the phone into recovery and choose the 2nd option ( the Update option) hit the camera button then I just get a blank screen....
I listed exactly what I have done. Is there anything that I'm missing or not doing exactly right ??
Thanks!
I've done it a little different on my German 00 device. I installed the stock recovery and simply applyed the update normaly.
Stock recovery: See Thread "How to get your Streak back to factory condition" (Option 1)
instead of using the stock Official Dell ROM I took the 2.1 ROM
First I had a few Problems with the Icons on the Home-Screen, wiped the device again, works nice
Ok Guys wish of the ways is the best and faster
@cue_32 - No problem, happy to help out. I'm still looking for that elusive stock boot logo as well.
@Bizzach - I'm glad everything worked out for you.
@shadowfactor - Try using the old custom recovery, the newest build causes that black screen error for some odd reason. Hope that helps, if not let me know.
brilliant! The older custom recovery software worked!
Question tho. How do I get rid of the 02 splash screen ?
Running 2.1. will post if I have any issues
Thanks alot!
Download one of these: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=696193
Rename the file to bootanimation.zip place in system/media (you will need to use root explorer and make sure the permissions are set to read and write. Works and looks great.

but when signing into my google account I get the following error.

I've read problems about market not connecting. Any suggestions or a link to a fix ?
Thanks.

I personally use Titanium Backup for stuff like that, or sync all contacts with your google account for easy recovery. I haven't tried the Dell Sync Client.

Hello my friends,
I think I've done a real disaster: I tried to update my Hd2 using the official update from Htc web site but after the update the phone self reboot and got stuck at the boot loader screen; I followed a suggestion on a site and did the HSPL with hard spl by bepe & cotulla but after doing this I'm now stuck at the boot screen and I can't flash neither it's original rom or any cooked rom; I also tried the Task29 trick with no luck and also tried to flash my phone through the SD card...no luck at all...
Help me 'cause I really don't know what else can do.
Thanks for any help
Your gonna need to post some info about your phone and what you were trying to flash before anyone can help buddy.............
I can post the boot screen capture: is enough?
What kind of HD2 is it......
Which rom were you running before this happened.......
What was the rom you were trying to flash.......
Sure post the bootloader screen too........
It had the original rom, it's an Htc Hd2 from Tim Italy, it's not the 1024 mb ram version, and I was trying to flash the latest official htc rom.
I would post also the image of the bootloader but since I am a new member I can't post link :-(
Ok, I was expecting you to say it was a tmous model and that you'd flashed the wrong radio........
Im not sure why it wouldnt let you flash to that rom........
Are there any error messages when you try to flash again?
From your first post it sounds like youve tried everything I could suggest......

I think it might be something to do with your phone being network branded.....
Try looking in the rom development section stickies to find a carrier branded rom from your network provider and see if you can flash that.........
Im sure someone with more knowledge than me will jump in and help you out eventually......
also try googling for the error message that you get.......

I did a search and find out a possible solution in editing the rom image nbh file with an hex editor to set it to a higher version, since the problem could be my hspl version too low, but also this didn't work...
Thank you for your interest
in your screen shot the modelcode (or whatever it is) in the upper left looks corrupted. I'm not sure but i've seen people post before with corrupted bootscreens.
i would get hspl2 and try changing to say 1.66, anything, really, in the hope it fixes it, but i don't hold much hope.

I know you mentioned before but if you do a forced installation from your SD card I don't see a problem on that.
***Preparing of your SD
-Format your SD with "FAT32"
- Download the original Rom from HTC following your SN N°
- Extract the .exe file with Win-Zip
- Move the RUU_signed.nbh to your SD
- Rename the RUU_signed.nbh to leoimg.nbh
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button.
- Follow the instructions fore installation

Unfortunately it does not work: it says "installing", then quit and self boot and return to the boot screen.
I also sent it to the service and they returned it as "not serviceable" since I modded the spl.
Is possible that is only rubbish now?
Well...check my topic. I have a corrupt bootloader as well. My phone is dead, I tried everything but without any results.
You can pull out the battery for a couple of hours (16-20), then go directly to the bootloader and flash an original ROM through USB. That helped for me 2 months ago. But unfortunately this time it is fatal and have to call the insurance company
Delete HSPL and flash original carrier ROM
Hi Tisinpower,
I don´t know, but since you´ve tried just about everything, and the service people told you "unserviceable" due to HSPL, have you tried to delete the HSPL and "install/reboot" with an original carrier ROM?

My G tab doesn't go pass the boot animation.
When i do the Vol + plus power botton. It doesnt go into recovery mode.
I did Root the device and i was running
[ROM] VEGAn-TAB GingerEdition STABLE RC1.

Last night i was a little drunk and i decided to play with my G-tablet. In my drunkenness i uninstall Rom manger and did a factory reset on the device. I want it to take it back to stock so i can return it and preorder an asus transformer. I only have today to return the device any help will be wonderfull

Use Bekit's 1105 image (nvflash_gtablet_2010110500.zip) do a factory data wipe as soon as it boots up. That should get you back to stock.
Thanks i will look into it
I did the NVFlash but it won't get pass the boot animation. The good thing is that the boot animation is the stock one that came with the phone.

If your returning it, now you have the best excuse "it won't boot"
im having a similar problem. ive been stuck in a bootloop for days now. i managed to get it back to the "3 birds" but thats about as far as i can get.
it feels like im pretty close to getting this thing back up and running i just need to flash a new rom. the problem im having with this is i cant find the rom to flash. i put the rom on the sd card, but when i put it back in and boot up i cant find it anywhere in clockwork. (says no files found when trying to install zip from sd card.
So my question, is there a way to mount my device to the computer through clockworkmod so i can finaly flash a new rom.
or can anyone point me into the direction where i can find the files on the sd card
thanks in advance!
Lol I mean tablet.. omw to return the device..using the excuse that I updated the device and this happen. Can't wait till the 26th...Transformer FTW

Classic example why the G Tablet is getting a bad rep from the retail chains. If people would take the time to read the instructions that people have posted on these forums, all this could be prevented. If you don't understand them, ask a question. Nvflash is your friend when some thing goes wrong. Just saying.
jhreid1969 I agree 100% and was experiencing the same problem the user was above just a few weeks ago right after I bought my G Tab and began to play around with it. All one has to do is read the comments at the bottom of Roebeet's post on nvflash using bekit and they will find a post from Sprdtyf350 explaining that you must install and use clockwork mod to reformant after using nvflash and then it works fine !
Kartiel,
If you read the comments under Roebeet post for nvflash using bekit you will see a comment from a user named Sprdtyf350, he explains what you have to do using the clockwork mod to partion AFTER using nvflash !
What I did was install nvflash onto an external sd card then put it in my GTab and installed it. I then went throgh the process to format my sd card which if you are not familiar with can be found in the directions for installing clockwork mod.
After you format the card reboot and all should be well !
Yes... After nvflashing to get out of the loop you must clear cache and data and then in most cases repartition the device.

Yes on this particular issue I am. I have read on the forums about your problems Citi and you and others have gone in great depths trying to repair it. This person hardly tried and is going to blame the product for his mistake. My thoughts are you have a faulty unit and probably will not be repairable by flashing alone. This other person, probably used other conventional means to install ROMs which were not made to work with the G Tablet without maybe causing some serious problems, such as a ROM manager and didn't bother to learn how to do it safely by reading some facts first here on the furoms. If I have seen where he tried to get some help, or said he tried this and thar to repair it and not openly admitted to using a ROM manager, I would probably have a different oplnion about it.
I noticed that my brother had ICS for his droid razr maxx and so I went about updating my phone so that I could have ICS as well. During the first attempt it downloaded fine, rebooted and started the installation. During the installation though it stopped around 30-40%? ish and rebooted saying the update failed. I have had this problem before and so I thought it was because my phone didn't have some of the applications that It came with from Motorola. I recovered it to my last recovery which I saved with everything still installed but the phone still rooted. The installation didn't work so I figured that I would just factory reset and try it again, thinking the phone would update then.
Phone: Droid razr X912, stock ROM, no root, Superuser is installed but does not work, installed OTA root keeper to check if I had root but didn't work. Bootstrap doesn't work.
Where I am now:
1. Stock ROM
2. factory reset
3. Gingerbread 2.3.6
4. No root and unable to re root
5. Cannot update ICS
Where I am trying to get:
1. Either I would like to get back to one of my recoveries that I made using CMrecovery or
2. Get to ICS.
What I have read so far:
Something about locking the bootloader. Said to use some adb reboot recovery command in a command prompt? I am really new at this so I don't know what this means(should provide somewhat of a idea of how much I know) I can read articles if someone can point me in the right direction
I am unsure what to do in this situation. Thanks.
Edit: Tried Doomlords unrooting script and that didn't work, Says that the phone is in R/O mode most likely (that is my conclusion) from reading a few articles.
Ok...I'm no expert but I can tell you what I would would do and hopefully we can you all fixed up. So you're on stock Gingerbread right? Do you have the stock recovery too or a different one? Anyways try booting into recovery, wipe the cache, do a factory reset/data wipe, clear cache again. Then restart the phone to see if it boots up all good.
Now, do you have the official ICS .211 .zip update file? I'm assuming you do, make sure it's on the "external" SD card. Shut the phone down, and boot back into recovery. Select update.zip from SD card and run the update. Give it plenty of time to run. Sometimes it seems like it is hanging but it's just thinking. Might take in upwards of 10-15 minutes to run through completely so make sure you have a full battery before beginning.
Mine did hang and installation failed. This is actually common when doing a forced update in recovery. Don't worry, all you have to do is force shut it down and repeat the above steps and run the install again. It "should" install fine on the second try, mine did and many others on here too. After it's finished and you're all booted up you should be on the official .211 ICS version.
If you want to root, search for matt's utility for the .211 version (I believe it's the 1.7 version) and simply follow those instructions, works great and don't forget to donate. He's saved lots of us RAZR users. Also, if you want the .215 leaked update, get Voodoo OTA rootkeeper, run that, get the .215 .zip update file from you're external SD card in recovery.
When all is said and done. You should be on the most recent stock .215 ICS version, and rooted. Hope this helps
Edit.. .If this doesn't work, and I don't know if it will, I hope it does, you'll probably have to use RSD to flash a stock image. I think they are .fxz files, not sure. I've never used RSD on my RAZR, only my OG Droid1.
Thanks for the Reply, I do not have the .211 ICS .zip, Though if you or anyone else know where to find it? I do know how to do the force install that you recommended that I do.

There you go
Thank you. Will try it and let you know if that worked!
Matt's utility (found in the Dev forum) is really all you need. I'm guessing that having bootstrap installed is one of the issues as well.
Oh, I will check that right now while I wait for the ics rom to download, thanks for more options, may try it first if it is all that I need.
You can get the utility at same link I posted earlier..^^^
I just wanted to let you know that I did get it working again with your help! I ended up having to use RDSLite to restore it but its back up and got it working again! Thanks so much guys!
Tried the ics t-mobile leak and worked awesomely for me! (goo.gl/aQuKS) its German but Google translates it brilliantly!
another opportunity is (like I did) installing miui which is officially supported and use Nova launcher if u like.
Nevertheless, T-Mobile leak works like a charm!

did you get it re-rooted again?
I was having an issue with the update also. Had to go through an arduous process but finally figured it out.
I have clockwork recovery installed.
my question is
is there *anything special* i need to do to go from this to the new ICS or JB Roms??
thanks in advance!
Yes. Make sure you flash Gingerbread bootloader. There is an easy to follow guide available. Search for Vibrant Custom GB Bootloader on Google and it should take you directly to the thread here.
It's a simple guide to follow, just follow it carefully. *a misstep can hard brick you*
After you have that you can find a suitable 4.0.4 ICS to flash. Just follow the directions in the OP and you should be fine.
Or, you could flash a JB ROM. In that case I would recommend (because I had to) flash cm9 nightly FIRST, then go to JB from there. Would probably make your life easier
As my buddy Woodrube says: read, read, read. When you've read enough, read more.
I still sit back and read about an hours worth of old solved threads and new ones alike on an everyday basis.
Note: if you for choose an ICS ROM, please read the threads titled EU bug, and Encryption Unsuccessful. It may not ever affect you, but you should become familiar with it.
You don't need to flash Gingerbread bootloaders.

You know, everyone always says to go to CM7 then CM10.
I ODIN'ed back to stock today, no idea why, I got bored. xD
Note: Skip steps 1, 3, 4 if you already have a custom recovery, which you do, you're running Bionix and don't want to ODIN back to stock for a complete clean install.
These are the steps I use to go to CM10 coming from stock:
1. ODIN to stock, wipe everything, you know.. clean install.
2. Download all the zips you need. (CM10, JB GAPPS, CM10 FFC support zip, update.zip that has clockworkmod recovery.) and put them on your phone.
3. Reboot into recovery, install 'update.zip' it'll reboot, do it again.
4. It should boot into CWM now, the old version.
5. Flash CM10, it should reboot or get stuck.
6. Boot into recovery (Should be new recovery from now on.), wipe data/factory reset.
7. Boot into recovery, flash twice before rebooting.
8. Reboot system and wait for it to boot up, if it doesn't boot up, flash again.
9. Once it boots, flash GAAPS.
10. Flash CM10 FFC support.
Enjoy?

No you don't need GBbl's anymore. Lets just say they are not "required" anymore, but are still "recommended".
OP, I have a ICS install guide in my signature if you need it. Has details about EU bug too.

so i need to install CM7 before installing these roms(ICS)? (the guide says skip to the CM7 part). is CM7 required??
if so, how to go about installing the CM7 in place of the Froyo bionix build??
and is there a custom CWR for ICS roms that I need to install?
sorry for the dumb questions. ive been knee deep in my sgs4g and havent kept up with vibrant...
You do not need to flash CM7, people just say it's safer. (Not sure on that one.)
Follow the steps I gave up and skip the ones that I said to, you should be just fine.

Just trying to be thorough here. On step 7 it says "7. Boot into recovery, flash twice before rebooting." What exactly should I be flashing 2x here? Never mind I figured it out
The ROM, but you figured it out.
I suggest you just flash CM7 because it doesn't take that long and you get some practice before going onto another ROM.

I had already flashed 2 other ROMs before going to CM10, 1 successful on not so successful. This time it went flawlessly. Im loving CM10 so far. I see why this is so addicting now haha
Now you guys see what I mean about steps before leaps?
If you have a bad flash on 2.2 or 2.3.x, they are fairly easy to recover from and start over. Sometimes a bad flash on ICS can cause irreparable damage, al'a EU bug. I've also seen motherboards borked, USB/PC unconnectivity and the worst of all a bootloader bad flash, hardbrick.
But yes, I as well as almost everyone here will agree, it is very addicting.
