I started this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656180 ,
but as previous thread hav a bit confusing name I start new one and the old could be removed by admin please. ...
Appointment created on Android phone will sync to Google Calendar, but not from GCal to Outlook.
Only difference between the appointment created in GCalendar directly and in Phone is the fact that Phone created appointment show myself as a guest in Google Calendar. When I remove myself as a guest, appointment will sync to outlook.
Calendars in Outlook, Google Calendar and Android phone are named as "myname"@gmail.com.
Appointments created in Outlook will sync to the phone just fine.
In the phone I have enabled only one calendar "[email protected]"
phone is HTC Hero, tried different 2.0 ROMs (NeoRoM v2.1, Villain 5.0, Villain 6.1, Sense Hero 2.1)
Sync for Outlook is Google Calendar Sync 0.9.3.5.
Sync method "two way"
there is those threads on other forums:

this is what I discovered so far:
when looking into my phone calendar appointments, in 1.6 roms , the creator of the appointment will be marked as "[email protected]"
in 2.0 roms, the appointment in my phone show creator of the appointment " Firstname Lastname". so it will take this information probably form Gmail Account or Phone other settings, as calendar settings in Gmail will not show my First name and Last name in capital letters. 1.6 uses mail address as identifiyng "owner" of the appointment.
so seems this is communication issue between 2.0 and Calendar app.
Does anybody have any ideas how to try to track this problem any further?
as you see from other threads this in not only my issue with 2.0 roms, so it cant be phone related ....

well... today I had little bit of testing and now turnes out that my opinion regarding this but wasnt 100% accurate.
when creating appointment in the phone with 2.x ROM, the phone register owner of the appointment with normal way. That means "[email protected]".
when information is sent to Gmail account in the Google Server, the server will receive infromation with appointment owner registered "My Google Account First and Last name".
When I look this appointment in my phone - everything is ok, even after new sync.
When I look this appointment in the server - owner name has changed.
When I reset my phone, and reinstall old rom (1.x) and resync calendar with Google, I will get this appointment synced to the phone with changed owner (my google account firstname and last name)
So after reinstall and after resync, appointments created previously with old 1.x are ok with my gmail address marked as owner.
appointmens created with 2.x, having owner marked my First name and Last name that I registered for Gmail.
is there any way to catch information that phone will send to the Google server to try to find a difference in the information?
Just tried new Taiwan based official rom.
Still the same problem .
No one here is having a problem like this?
im also having this problem...im on the nexus one
pretty damn annoying!

Question:
After entering a birthday in the contact info, am I supposed to get a reminder on my calendar regarding that birthday?
Today my friend had a birthday. I didn't get any form of a reminder even though I entered his birthday in the contact info.
Kind of defeats the purpose for putting it in in the first place.
yeh I noticed that it doesn't appear in the calender too
You do get a reminder, but not in your calender.
If you scroll over to updates & events in your phone book then you will see the first 3 birthdays & any facebook notifications. Also about a week before the persons birthday their picture in the phone book list will show a 1 to let you know they have a event upcoming
Have you tried adding the "contacts' birthdays"-calendar in Google Calendar?

Tried that, but it does not seem to copy the birthday from facebook into the actual contact item in google.so it then never appears in the contacts birthday calendar. or at least, that's what it's doing on mine.
Would be nice if it added it to the calendar, but at least there in the people
You're right. I hope HTC makes it possible to sync information from facebook to google contacts. Would be nice if you got a notification telling you if someone changed their phone number/address/e-mail on facebook, and asking you if you wanted to apply the changes to contacts.
But, at least birthdays should be synced. I am considering manually adding all birthdays to my google contacts, as that at least gets them in the birthdays-calendar.

Where is this calendar? Come to think of it, not all my calendars that I see on Google Calendar on the web are showing on the device. Anyone got any ideas how to refresh the list of available calendars?
To have the birthday calendar sync from your gmail contacts you have to go to the google calendar web --> settings --> Browse public calendars --> add Contacts' birthdays and events.
It works great for me!
Is there any way to edit the "Contacts' birthdays and events" calendar from inside GoogleCalendar inside yor web browser so that the changes sync back to your contacts on an Android phone?
Not in googlecalendar web. Just Add the birthday to the contact in gmail or in your phone and it will apear in the calendar...
I've noticed that only birthdays are being added to the calendar. But I'd like to sync also other anniversaries.
I cannot see
I added the contacts and events calendar into my google calendar online and added a birthday to one of my contacts. That birthday appears in my online calendar but it not being synced to my phone.
I dont see the birthday in my calendar on my phone nor do I see it in the contact details on my phone.....why ?
I was experimenting with this today as well, and only managed to get it to sync the birthday contacts once; the ones that were already in my google contacts when I enabled it are visible, any new ones are never appearing however I try.
Edit:
Correction! After leaving it on for a night, I now see the changes! It just took a very very long time for the update to percolate to the phone, even if google calendar sees it properly.
Manual updates apparently make no difference...
I also managed to get the contact-calendar for birthdays to work. but the year of the birthday isn't showed, so I think the best way for me is to crate a recurring event in the personal google calendar with the actual birthday.

That or get android 2.0 from somewhere; since I hear it should support contacts birthdays. HTC even said that they will push 2.0 to the Hero, if you don't want to "hack" it. Of course, then you have to wait for them to get the SenseUI ported..

any ideas whats wrong?
Doesnt anyone have this problem with 2.x roms???
you can see it from that thread:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=5484
that lot of people have the same issue with the sync.
... this is the only obstacle that keeps me off the 2.x ROM...
solution is hugely appreciated...
Hello
I'm having trouble getting the Calendar on the SGS2 to sync with the Calendar on google?
Now I can create an appointment, and it appears on google and the phone, but if I create it on Google the phone won't update.
The sync checkbox is ticked, and every time I create a new event on the Calendar i'm greeted by
"Google calendar cannot sync with Samsung Kies. Use My Calendar to sync with Kies"
followed by
"Local calendar cannot sync with Google calendar. You need a Google account"
So I have sync running, emails are pushing, and as I said items created on the Phone push to Google, but I can't get Google to push back to the phone, can anyone explain to me what i'm doing wrong
Many Thanks,
Luke.
I have the same problem. Have had the problem for a while on multiple roms and kernels
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
O great, so its F'd then
Maybe i'll be getting the Galaxy Nexus then.
The Calendar app can work with many calendar sources. I have it syncing it with gmail, yahoo and also the phone's internal calendar (which is also the one KIES deals with).
When you go into Calendar -> Menu -> Settings -> Calendars. You will see all the accounts that independently sync with the Calendar app. So you can have an appointment via a work's account and another appointment via your gmail account. The gmail appointment will only sync with the gmail account and the work's appointment will only sync with the work's account.
What it appears to be is that you create an appointment in gmail (on the web) and it will happily appear on the web and also on your phone soon after. Any modifications to that appointment on the phone will appear on the web.
A new appointment created on the phone is saved as a local calendar event. Go to Calendar -> Menu -> Create. You will see half-way down an option called 'Calendar' select your gmail account from this option. As long as you save the new appointment the Calendar app will use that as the default calendar.

Moving to Q&A
I have had the stock calendar working but I would highly recommend Business Calendar.
Way better in every way.
This problem has been bothering me for a long time now.
I have an Exchange account with my school that I sync my email and contacts to my android phone with no problems. However, the school made a shared calendar for our class schedules that I added to my Exchange account (by adding the URL), but this calendar will not sync to my phone. If I create my own events in my personal calendar, that works fine and shows up, but the calendar that I added from the school will not. It shows up just fine on Outlook on the PC.
My current solution is to just add that calendar to my google account and sync it, but the problem with that is that our class schedules can sometimes change suddenly and gmail doesn't sync very often, which has led to some problems for me in the past. I would much rather have the direct syncing of the calendar to my phone instead of through google.
What makes it more aggravating is that my friend has no problem syncing the calendar with iOS, so I know it should be possible. I've tried using Touchdown but that has the same problem.
Here is an image from the Outlook Web app showing both calendars
Thanks in advance for your help
My phone: MyTouch 4G running ICS. I had this problem even on other GB roms.
Question
Sorry i can't help you but i have question . I saw you wrote your friend has no problem sync shared calendar on iOS. Can you tell me how he did that and do i need some kind of app. I'm trying to sync my shared calendar (Outlook 2010) to my friends iPhone, but iPhone only syncs his calendar when i create exchange activesync account on his iPhone. Thank you
I have 102 contacts in my G-account, 100 originally exported from outlook via exporting *.csv file, and 2 newly added.
When I try to sync G account with phones, It synchronizes gmail and calendar without any problems. However, contacts sync only the new ones - only the newly created 2 contacts- and not all the previous ones (100).
But: when I start to write an email on my phone, gmail app will offer me email addresses from all 102 contacts!
That means: Sync basically works, but older contacts (imported) do not sync in contacts app.
Will anyone help?Does anyone know the cause?
I tried these devices:
At old ASUS (4.2) all works as it should (only this one device does not have a sync problem!)
All other devices has a problem noted above: Samsung (4.2) Vodafone Prime 6 (5.0), Samsung (6.0.).
Thanks for your help.
long shot, but do your contacts have birthdays set and/or google profiles? There's a recent bug that doesn't properly sync google contacts which surfaced yesterday somewhere.
problem solved!
NICE SHOT!
Don`t know why, but all imported contacts has field "anniversary" set at 1. January 2054.
If I delete this record, the sync works perfect!
The interesting thing is, that it doesn`t help to change the date e.g. 6.12.2017 or so . It has to be deleted!
I just tried the export new file from outlook excluding the field "anniversary", and it`s also ok.
So thank you very much, you saved the day!
