Hi all,
I flashed my phone with the latest MoDaCo ROM last night, but realised today that my GPRS and 3G aren't working.
I believe it has something to do with the Network Type being UMTS, is there anything I can do, or do I have to go back to the default ROM.
I am on the South African MTN network.
Thanks for any help!
Thanks to anyone who took the time to read this hoping to help.
I have, for the moment, fixed the problem by adding a new APN, with the type set to "default". This seems to have worked for the moment, but confused me, since I never had to add an APN with the default ROM.
Thanks anyway!

Hello,
I am new to posting here, however I have been reading throughout the forums since I got my HTC PPC6800 in September through US Cellular. I have been through a few different custom roms and have never had any trouble. Then, yesterday after flashing to a winmo 6.5 rom, I lost the ability to connect to EVDO and I am stuck on 1x all the time. I switched back to Titan Reloaded v1.3.4 and still have the same issues. I also had changed my banner yesterday from CellSouth to US Cellular through QPST and I have since reloaded the file from when I read it with QPST before making changes.
Does anyone know of any issues that could cause this?
Thanks
Dave
Hey this might get you on the right track.
Did you use Debug(fieldtrial) (dialer code ##33284 call button) mode and look in the HDR tab and make sure it says you are authenticated? If not then you have to Re-Authenticate. That is done is PST (##778 call button). Follow my Cricket PST settings thread, (only the Part about re-authenticating) and use your US cellular values. Let me know if I have helped.
Just whatever you do, do not Use CRICKET settings for the Carrier you are using which is US CELLULAR
Have you checked your EPST settings to make sure they are correct? You might try running the uscc carrier cab. EVDO will not connect unless the EPST Security/MIP Profile settings are correct.
These were the settings I had to change for my phone to connect to EVDO: http://sites.google.com/site/victorbush/htc-6800-1/epst-data-settings
Its under EPST, goto Security, under HDR Username and password it needs to be as follow.
Find your ESN (In hex first)
HDR Username should be ESN(IN HEX)@uscc.net
HDR Password should be your ESN(IN HEX)
i.e.
ESN = 3C123456
HDR Username [email protected]
HDR Password 3C123456
(The ESN must be in CAPS)
PPP Username and password are based on phone #
i.e.
phone# = 1234567890
PPP Username = [email protected]
PPP Password = 1234567890
This bit me and several other people when USCC first launched EVDO
Also, mine has been changed from just flashing the rom, so you may need to fix this more than once.
Just an FYI.
BTC
THANKS
This method worked great (changing settings in EPST.) I thank you all for all the help!!!!
Thanks SOOOOOO MUCH!!! Without EVDO my phone is useless!\
Dave
wow thanks for all the responses. in actually using your rom ryan. i love it but i often wondered what that debug program was for....lol im gonna try that asap. i thought just flashing it with your rom would "magically" work. everything else has. what is the us cellular stuff ur talkinh about? do the rest of those comments that all the other great people who responded carry any weight with ur rom? is it even a rom specific issue? my phone does recognize the evdo signal but will not function untill it drops back to 1x just to clarify my issue. sorry it took so long to respond. i have been attempting to cook my own rom and im working on a 2d fix that is not a plugin. thanks everyone for the response. i appreciate all the help!

I am only responding to what is in BOLD above. That issue sounds like you need to Un-Authenticate and Re-Authenticate. If you are using Cricket it explains how to do that in my Cricket PST settings thread.
I currently do not have a US cellular version of my ROM. This thread was created by the Member "kwineon" only to find out why his EVDO was not working on his ROM for US cellular. We helped him fix his problem and then you come along asking questions that do not even apply to MY ROMs OR This Thread (with the exception of your EVDO issue)
If you are going to experiment do it at your own risk... I have cooked 4 carrier specific rom's (Cricket, Sprint, Verizon, Metro PCS) thats it buddy..
I have an A&TT atrix , and i live in isral/
so, my problem i ithink is in my atrix, beacuse i tried everything and try in 1.57 and 1.83 the 3g cellular won't work.
ofcourse i write down the apn and nothing change.
I see the H sign up in the screen but no movement of the incoming an outgoing data and i was talking with my cellular company and the problem is in my cell.
what can i do? i want to break my phone
sorry about my english
Are you using Orange Celecom, or Pelephone?
cellcom why?
Did you make sure you have the right APN?
Menu>settings>wireless>mobile network>Apns>Menu>New APN
which you can either get from the many israeli blogs that have these settings or from cellcom
ofcource i tried and talked with my cellula company and i konw what to write in the apn setting . and that does't work at all.
i think i have a problem in my atrix..
I'm having exactly the same problem with my Atrix (brazilian version).
I guess is it something with Baseband version N_01.77.07P but im not sure.
I'll try to make this post as short as possible while still including all the details. I own an unlocked samsung galaxy s 2 in the US and have ATT as my provider.
After flashing different ROMs and firmware (exynos, lite'ning, cognition and the chainfire version of my firmware to be exact), my data connection is gone. I wrestled with it yesterday to no avail, because in the end my "Mobile network state" is always disconnected. Today, however, I changed the apn settings to the old ATT "wap" settings and the internet was restored. The speeds were somewhat slow, but i didn't care so long as they remained functioning. About two hours later - the connection crapped out. Oh, and I should also mention - I got a new sim card from ATT today assuming that my issue was a messed up and card from flashing too many roms with it still inside. Needless to say, that didn't work.
So, I'm here now attempting all sorts of remedies with no luck. ATM I am on cog 5.1 with the "correct" apn settings found here on xda, which hasn't worked either.
Has anyone else has this issue of losing their data connection altogether (although keeping wifi)? Does anyone have suggestions that might bring the data back to life?
Thanks!

what correct* apn settings are you using?
I'm using "phone" for the APN and leaving the rest blank (with the exception of APN type, which is internet).
Just minutes ago I reset to default APNs one more time to see if it would work, but nothing. I'll try the wap.cingular APN now to see if it at least picks up some data.

If you are still ' Rom hunting' as such, it is always a good idea to use program like apn manager so you dont have to manually enter your settings after every flash.
As my provider has nearly every field full, it can be a very timely exercise every time you change roms - lets face it, it can take some time to find the one we love

Those settings, wherever they're from, WORK. I had memorized the other common one already, so as soon as I saw the differences in yours I knew it would work. Unfortunately, I (literally) couldn't thank you enough for it.
Is that apn yours personally or just dug up from elsewhere here on XDA? I'm hoping it stands the test of time and continues to work after tonight... The speeds are all over the place for some reason, but at this point it doesn't matter to me, I'm just glad I don't need a WIFI connection at all times.
Oh, and the APN manager is downloading as we speak - good call. I've followed DG's from when I had my captivate a while back, so I'm gonna continue testing Cognition out for a little longer. Maybe like another day - then back to flashing =)

Hello guys I think I have a problem. After installing this (CyanogenMod 7.2-cooper-KANG-RC0-Android 2.3.7) my phone's data capabilities like 3g is not working anymore.
I am using the baseband S5830DXKT5 (2.3.6) from SIngtel. However, after flashing (before I install cm 7.2) I tested the 3g and I connected to the internet and it was fine. But when I install this ROM, my data capabilities fail.
I have the proper internet settings that my network provided me.
I have a signal and Messaging works. I can also browse the internet through wifi.
Help?

Did you manually enter the APN settings and press the circle ?
No, the settings was already there. I tried to manually change it but the parameters are already the same as what people in my country suggested.
The circle is already toggled.

im using CM7.2 as well but does not have issues.
Since CM 7.2 there is an additional settings included in the Wireless & networks
1.Mobile Networks > Network Preferences
> now there is an option to select WCDMA only, WCDMA Preferred etc.
> ensure you select WCDMA Preferred if you want 3G
> or WCDMA Only to forceit to always use 3G connection

Found this in the other tread.
I had tried it and it still doesnt work.
I also read the whole tread and to no avail, my data connection still does not work.
Ive tried using different baseband versions and different roms.
Whatever baseband I use, the 3g and data connection works. However, once I install any rom there is, Ive tried three (Kang, Ice Cream Sunday, CyanoAce), I just lose 3g and data connection.
can anyone help?
Now basically i also had the same problem... Intially wen i flashed CM version my DATA nor 3G working.. Later called up my svc provider they told to delete the OLD APN and he guided me thru the whole process of putting new APN.. Viola a restart my DATA came back May be u can try this once...
This was an issue for Telcel in Mexico when the upgrade to 2.3 came to Galaxy Ace, the fix was changing the Radio file (to a latin american one) but in this case is all zipped and i don't know if this can help actually.
Just a stab in the dark, try turning on data roaming... worked for me... with Grif's CM 7.1 with an unlocked Galaxy Ace not running it's native SIM. Worth a shot?
Maybe its your APN setting
If you're using globe, they have 3 or 2(not sure) different APN for postpaid and prepaid subscriber.
for postpaid I think its "internet.globe.com.ph"
for prepaid its "http.globe.com.ph"

Can you explain further? I think this maybe the issue because my unit was not bought here in our country. It was bought by my dad in another region.

wow this actually worked.
thanks a lot man!
---------
so for people the will encounter this kind of problem in the future, here is what apparently happened.
Globe (our Network Provider) sets the default APN to the postpaid instead of the prepaid one when you install new ROMS.
to think that this may be this simple. ive researched changing CSCs to flashing different basebands and roms.
case closed!
No problem. Glad I helped.

Depending on your carrier, there are APN (access point name) you need to setup in your settings. In Settings, go into More -> Cellular network -> Access Point Names. Here, you need to have one for your carrier. If there is one already, probably it doesn't have all necessary information filled out yet.
For me, I use Koodo in Canada. If i search Koodo APN settings, or similar, i can find this information, what to put under what. You should google as well. You'll most likely find it.
Then after you enter all info, you MUST click the 3 dots in upper right, and SAVE. Then when you are back to your list of APNs you MUST select the one you just created or edited.
Now once you reboot, it will work. One last note, this happened to me a few days ago when I installed Scrubber gpe 5.1 rom. The data was actually off even though there was signal. So make sure that it is actually on. the on/off button was hiding in the notification panel quick settings.
Hope it helps!
