Hi, I'm looking to source a solar charger for my TD2. I am using the device to track treks using GPS, so the standard battery life is not enough. I was thinking about using a solar unit to at least keep the unit going, even if it wont provide charge it wont be an issue so long as I'm 100% when setting out. Any suggestions would be appreciated, so far found the Freeloader which looks to be the best: http://www.solartechnology.co.uk/shop/freeloader-silver.htm or maybe the PowerMonkey Explorer? https://powertraveller.com/iwantsome/primatepower/powermonkey-explorer/
Any tips/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
I recommend you reading this thread where you can find some information on this topic.
Powermonkey Explorer looks a lot better on paper due to it's bigger battery. It should extend your running nearly two times, plus the charge you would get from the sun. But IMO don't expect miracles since its solar panel rating is not sufficient for serious application.

Got my BA (sx66) recently and while I love this thing, the battery life compared to my old 6315 is better than expected, but for how much I am away from a desk I would definately like a little bigger battery.
I've read all the posts in this forum on extended batteries but I don't seem to find anyone doing a review of the battery after they have it. There seems to be quite a few different batteries available so I think a battery roundup would help with a few peoples deicisions, myself included.
First off, current shipping batteries, I've seen mentions to a 1900mah battery, a 2000mah battery, an older mugen 2200(?)mah battery, the current 2400 and 3300 mugen batteries. Are there any more I am missing?
Some pictures of the batteries in the device to get an idea of size increase would be great! If you got them lets see them! I can provide webhosting if needed so email me at [email protected] with the subject involving HTC BA Battery or something similar.
Compatible accessories. Do any of these batteries fit in the cradle? If so do they fit in the extra battery charging spot? What cases do you know they do not fit in properly, and what ones do they fit properly.
Last but not least, where did you buy it and how do you rate the battery. Does it give as much of a life increase as the size increase would indicate?
Lets see it! This is the greatest PDA community around I know we can get a real nice roundup together.
Well this thread seems to be getting rather ignored.. I too would be interested in a battery roundup!
If I get one I will leave comments here!
dear saq,
it's a good idea to have a battery round up. So that the users in this forum can know the quality of the battery on the market.
But I do have a suggestion, I think you need to do a more details testing with all the environment the same...for the battery testing.
In case you have any question about the mugen power battery you can contact me.....
Despite all the tricks to help preserve battery, I still find the performance of y standard 930 mAh battery very bad. Is there an extended (reliabl) battery for rhis phone and where can I get it?
Just gonna drop my experience in. It seems the battery lasts for about a day and a half. Which can be seen as over three days (depends what time you charge it on the first day) instead of using the normal homescreen, download helix launcher from the market, it helps alot

One day and a half compared to my brothers Samsung's week is really a disgrace.
I already have another home screen, just got to like it, so not changing it at the moment.
I have contacted Seidio as they make extended batterys for other phones. Would not hurt if oter people did that too, so please, those who care about this problem, contact them and ask them.
I bought on e-bay a 1450mAh battery made by Jin Dian. A drastic improvement.
Didi anybody else try this? I got it but I'm not convinced it's better.
Seeing you all really hungry for power, it's just feel right to warn you guys. Never ever use cheap small portable charger that you spot either on a shop or ebay no matter how desperate you are. If you use it, best scenario, it only ruin your battery, or in the worse (like me) it ruin the phone. Both case has the same end result, the battery discharging way to quickly even when Idle.
How did it ruin your phone?
I would like to know. thanks
As I'm a long distance cyclist, I already own the Biologic ReeCharge. Anything that can be charged by usb can also be charged by that tool. I can use both my bicycle dynomo hub and the electricity network at home to charge the ReeCharge. Witch then is able to charge my phone. It's a kind of extra battery. Never have had any problems with that and I'm always glad on a cycle trip that I can keep my gadgets (most important gps) charged

Well, I don't know the technical details but it fried my batteries (that's right, more than one) before I realized it was the portable charger that caused and even after stop using it, it's still recurring (therefore, the phone is at fault) After asking my friend who used the same type charger once. They all said that it ruined their phones and told me if I want to have a portable charger, go for the lithium one that sony Ericsson's is selling.
hi,
i'm using varta charger type 57048:
http://www.amazon.de/Varta-Professi...=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=ce-de&qid=1291062768&sr=8-3
and i don't want to miss it on longer journeys. the usb-out function i would say is nearly as fast as the normal charger. one akku pack is enough for about 2 charges. if you are on a journey and not able to charge the akkus you can buy normal batteries. they give about 1 charge.
i have experiences with other chargers and phones and i would say this thing works really good because the usb-port of the charger turns off when batteries haven't enough voltage. this prevents your x10 battery from damage because wrong charging.

My x10a mini pro came with 970 mAh battery, not 930. Battery life is about a day and 1/2. I use USB car charger in the car on needed basis only. Hopefully USB car charger doesn't fry the battery.
Since i can't get the battery to last long enough even with better roms and so on i am now looking on battery extensions. Battery bigger than 1500mAh that is the original one. Iv seen "mugen" has some 1800mAh but they are quite expensive and not that much of a difference only 20% increase.
But iv come across some 2600mAh battery extensions this gives an amazing 73,3% increase in power. The only problem i see is that they are bigger.
im looking at this one:
http://www.batteryupgrade.com/shopB...rtmentProductId/85344458/shopGroupId/79274206
But have anyone used something like this? how is it getting your phone this fat? is it uncomftable? to heavy? how much thicker does it actually become? 0.5cm? 1cm?
Thanks for all the answers.
I use a 2600 battery. It makes the phone about the size of a Tytn 2, a small price to pay IMHO!

I woulndn't buy it. It doesn't have the same voltage as stock: 3.7v. So this battery actually will not last as the mAh suggest. looks cheappy choppy too and too much $$ in my opinion
I have one and use one if I know I'm not going to be in my car (or near an outlet) for a long time. It's pretty bulky. I didn't think I'd mind the bulk, but it DOES make the phone ugly as hell.
With my regular battery, I can usually go from about 6am to 4pm before desperately needing a charge. With the 2600mah one, I can go until bedtime (about 10-11pm). Not a massive increase, but an important one.
Still, it's ugly as hell. I wish they tapered it in more near the camera area. So much unnecessary bulk at the top.
does anyone of you have pictures with this kind of battery on the phone?
some pics of your phones with the battery would be nice
Mugen Power? They have a great battery for X10. Lots of reviews at xperiax10(dot)net blog.
It looks fatty!
Ok. I have another idea il buy 1 more original battery and a battery docking for it. So when one is used up il just put in the other one, and set the other for charge. Should not be too big of a problem. I'm normally not out for more than 9 hours at a time. If I know I'm going out for more I could just bring the other battery with me.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
got a bit cold on the idea of getting the phone ugly so i now went for 1 new battery and one docking station for the battery. So that i can always have a battery ready to use
you may need to change the language on the site from norwegian to english.
I think it's the best way, because unplug/replug by usb can damage the plug...it happens to me
i dont think i would ever wanna have a phone that big of its size
I use the big ones, and desktop charger! PERFECT!

2600mAh battery
Has anyone tried the 2600mAh battery yet?
so fat but it looks good
i think that size should only help if u are going to be out of home for a couple days o something like that.. i charge my x10 everyday and it works for me... X everyday i use my mp3 player, wifi for browsing. BT, camera, etc. but it's a good idea for travelling.
salu2
PIKS pls
can anybody give us a pik of the phone with the battery inside?

mugen also makes a 3600mah battery. makes the phone nice and bulky. haha.
I just carry around an extra battery when I know I'm going to be away from a plug. Stock battery lasts around 16 hours for me (wifi on all day, music, browsing, games) and that's good enough for me.

A DITTY
Batteries, batteries everywhere and yet not an amp hour to spare. Tiny brains draining power, to die so soon - despair!
THE LIES WE TELL OURSELVES
The posters initial claims of " I got 50 hours of moderated use! " is sure to degenerate into " umm well it was cheap and it will make a good backup battery at least. " How can you respond to that? I mean, I for one was pulling for the guy to best the odds... What response could be appropriate... "Hey, don't move let me kick you in the head while your down".... Just doesn't seem nice.
IMPROVEMENT
The Samsung captivate came with a 1500 mAh oem battery... a 1800 mAh oem was latter released for a sister phone and while a little thicker than the original, it still fit into the captivate original back and all... Sweet!
A MOTHERS LOVE
The problem is that for most of us battery testing is too subjective to provide useful information. My "moderate use" is your "heavy"... It's as useful as comparing how much our mothers love us.
D=M/V (DENSITY=MASS/VOLUME)
So what can we do? How can you objectively test your new ebay battery and immediately know you got ripped off? Well my friend you put it on a gram scale. Let me show you how this works using the two aforementioned captivate batteries(# 1.. 1500 and #2. 1800 mAh) , the Samsung oem note battery, and a Hyperion aftermarket battery (#3. 2500 and # 4.. 2600 mAh).
Results
#1. 30g
#2. 36g
There is a six gram difference between the lower and 300 mAh higher capacity Samsung batteries, a finding consistent with expectations. The slight increase in the volume of the #2 battery also indicates that the energy density for both of them is much the same... Now on to the S-note batteries!
#3. 50g
#4. 40g
The Samsung battery weighs a full ten grams more than its higher rated Hyperion replacement. Its lighter weight simply does not pack the mass to back up its big claims... It comes as no surprise that few long term users of the Hyperion are claiming the better than stock battery results they should experience, given manufacturer claims...
CONCLUSIONS
You can objectively test inflated power claims by aggressive aftermarket battery manufacturers.
CONTRIBUTE
Use a simple gram scale to help quantify the potential of battery claims. If you really want to nail it down use a vacuum packer seal the battery and measure its volume through displacement..Bonus, save the results and your kid has his/her next science fair project!
POST YOUR RESULTS
If we share our respective findings here, we can help each other make better informed choices. Xda really is great.

The way to properly test the battery is to do a factory reset so no custom apps are installed and then do the following:
1. Power down the phone and allow the battery to fully charge with the phone OFF. Then boot the phone keeping the power plugged in.
2. Turn all the radios on
3. Turn the screen brightness to max
4. Install an app that logs battery levels (I use battery monitor by 3C)
5. Loop a video until the battery dies (unplug the power AFTER you start playing the video)
5a. An alternate method is to loop a benchmark test until the battery dies
This is how the pros do it anyway...
Lw thanks for your response... The testing process you outlined is indeed an excellent procedure.
The only problem it presents is that few, besides the pros and yourself, seem to be willing to take the time needed to test every battery they run across.
I was able to test 4 batteries in less time than it would take to setup your phone to implement the test you've outlined...
A truly professional approach to the battery capacity was demonstrated in a captivate thread. The posters built a test to charge and drain every battery through multiple cycles. The details that were posted provided details far in excess of anything your proposed testing procedure is able to offer.
The captivate battery thread included plans for his battery testing rig, if you are interested and have the time I could probably find the link for you... I would be interested in your shared results.
The advantage my procedure offers is that it does not require modification of phone followed by an extended four hour testing sequence...
My procedure is definitely not for the pros with lots and lots of time, it took me four minutes to test four batteries... That's 1minute per battery...

I was contacted to try this product out. I will say initially I was skeptical. But after using it for a few days it really is perfect for what its intended use is. It is basically a spot charger. You need a quick boost just attach it and let it charge. It comes with a nice lightweight cord. The product itself is very lightweight and comes with a clip. It can easily fit in a pocket or purse for the ladies. The quality is excellent. The flashlight is very nice, with 3 modes Hi or low beam and also an emergency type strobe setting. The flashlight is very bright.
I have use it everyday for the last week. The first use it charged my phone from 15% to 95% within an hour. It completely exhausted it to empty. After testing it in different circumstances I have found it is best to use for about a half hour at a time. Just give the phone a quick charge. That should get you about a 30-50% increase based on my testing. Then just use it as needed. It charges back up to full in about an hour. It is also very durable. The build quality is excellent. It also comes in 4 different colors.
So in my opinion if you use it for a quick charge as needed, it is perfect. If you need something more constant, than this is not for you. I feel it is the perfect size and has the speed charge for quick uses throughout the day. If you want something useful for your phone, then this is really for you. The flashlight comes in handy also.
