Updating European Hero - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
According to HTC there should be a OTA update for the European HTC Hero (not T-Mobile), but it requires a higher build number than my phone currently have.
My current build number is: 1.76.405.6
I've tried out the RUU from the HTC support site, but it refuses to find the phone by USB (even that HTC Sync works just fine). The Over-The-Air update haven't shown up, and setting forward the clock and restarting the phone don't work either.
So I'm hoping someone got an idea how to progress onwards from here?
Ideally I'm hoping to make it ready for the 2.1 update, if it ever comes out.

TMobile ROM to HTC ROM change - info Please!

Hi all
I've had a search through the re-developed ROM's and to be perfectly open, I don't understand much about them.
I recently had a plain HTC HD2 and very happy with it for what I use it for, I don't need any fancy add on's and bits etc, just my Co-pilot and keeping my contacts and notes upto date.
That handset was lost and the insurance didn't have any HD2 replacements in stock. The Desire they sent instead has been sold, and I've purchased a T Mobile version of another HD2.
Is it a simple case of downloading and installing the official HTC ROM for the handset and doing a ROM update?
Apologies if this is a simple query etc!
Cheers, Dennis!
no, no no nonono.
assuming you mean a tmobile us model (1024 rom, green send key) then no, if you flash a non tmous stock rom (any stock rom that isn't for the tmous) onto that phone it will die. brick. dead, because of the ..51.. radio they include.
You may get some cooked roms that are on a base of lower than 2.x, but have been tweaked for the 576ram , and they will work on your phone, but its a very risky game to play.
Far better to follow the two rules..,
only ever flash tmous stock roms,
and
cooked roms that SPECIFICALLY say tmous compatible in the title and post 1 of that roms thread..
Hiya
Samsamuel, thanks for the info there. I'll update with more information! I'm technical, but not with smartphones to the level some of you guys here!
I'm in the UK, and it's a UK TMobile handset that I bought. I've already had the handset 'unlocked' so that I can use my O2 SIM, which is working etc.
From the handset
OS Version - 5.2.21889 (21889.5.0.87)
Manila Version - 2.5.20121429.0
ROM version - 1.72.110.4 (86525) WWE
ROM date - 04/02/10
Radio Version - 2.07.51.22_2
Protocol version - 15.32.50.07U
So, would it be ok to update to the normal HTC ROM?
Cheers, Dennis!
Ah ok in that case there is no need to mention that it is a t mobile phone, just confuses the issue.
Yes the regular update will work fine once happy is applied.
Thanks once again SamSamuel,
However, what's meant by 'once happy is applied' ?
Is that one of these hacks or special ROM things?
When I do a search, so many results come back containing the word 'happy' I have no idea where or what to look for!
Is there a thread which explains how to apply 'happy'?
Apologies for the vagueness!!
Cheers, Dennis!
lol, thats the android spell correction and me not proof reading before i post. should be HSPL
Hiya
To me, anything that's typed up 'could' potentially be what I need to do! I wouldn't know the difference!!
So, I've had a search for HSPL - I see it mentioned, but alas, I have no clue what it is, where to get it from, what to do with it when I get it!
Is there any straightforward points on what and where to get this HSPL, how to use it ?
I know I can download the HTC official ROM from their website, so that part I think I know what to do as I upgraded my last HD2.
Cheers, Dennis!
ok, hspl. Get HSPL2_RUN.zip from HERE, (you can follow instructions that say hspl or hspl3, theyre all the same, except for what phones they support, , hspl2 is teh most usefull for regular hd2 owners)
phone into bootloader and connect usb, (when you read 'get an active sync connection', , forget that, it doesnt mean actual active sync, just a usb connection)
get hspl2, run it, in the dropdown is a list of spl and hspl versions. if it ends .0000 its stock, if it ends .hspl its,,,,,, hspl.
choose 2.08.hspl, follow the prompts. if it doesnt work, run the hspl prog again, if it still doesnt work (timeout/connection errors) change usb ports and try again. no need to touch teh phone, just leave it in bootloader all the time.
once bootloader says spl 2.08.hspl you are good to go.
BUT
if you are planning to flash the 3.14 rom, , , you can't do it this way.
3.14 wont work on any spl/hspl except 3.03.0000 and there is no way to get 3.03.0000 except goldcard.
Hiya
Samsamuel - seems you're the only one willing to help me here! so I really appreciate it !
I know i've got to do 'things' from what you've said there, but I have no idea on how to do it! - give me some financial IT related stuff I'm good! ask me to do bootloaders and potential goldcard and run files and connect - I'm lost! I don't want to try things in case I 'brick' the handset!
The ROM I want is listed on the HTC downloads section for the HD2. It's dated 25th January 2010
Details are
ROM Version:
Norway:1.66.409.1, Spain :1.66.412.1, Denmark:1.66.403.1, France :1.66.406.1,
Sweden:1.66.413.2, Italy:1.66.408.1, WWE:1.66.405.2, France Bouygues: 1.66.483.0
So, if I somehow manage to do this HSPL thing, will I not be able to install the HTC ROM? I have no idea where or what the '3.14' ROM is?
Apologies for sounding really vague - I've never got into all the modified ROM's and stuff for smartphones. I've only ever needed to switch on, use the phone, install my GPS software and keep my contacts and notes syncronised. I'm just used to the HD2 I had as it was a case of straightforward use. This T mobile version is 'different'!
Anyone else able to help alongside everything SamSamuel has kindly provided so far? please?!!
Cheers, Dennis!
warning
Its best for you if you do not try to update your phone. Either get used to it or just sell it. There are rom update tutorials on this site. Just search for rom update tutorial, if you must try. The official htc software is not for this phone, if you install it, your phone will no longer work, and you wont be able to fix it.
No, its ok so long as you have a regular hd2 locked to t mobile as discussed in earlier posts.
Just to double confirm, if your phone has green send key, then STOP DANGER
But I think we're dealing with white send key, so normal hd2, and the target Tom isn't 3.14
So,,,
assuming white end key.
Phone backed up and off
Press hold keep holding volume down
Tap and release power keep holding volume down
When striped coloured screen appears
Plug in USB
On PC run hspl2
In dropdown choose 2.08.hspl
When it completes and phone starts to reboot immediately hold volume down again to return to stripey screen (bootloader)
When says USB at the bottom and split at top says 2.08.hspl run the .exe you downloaded from HTC
If you get connection errors, timeouts, leave the phone and just swap USB ports. When running hspl.exe right click it and "run as administrator"
(That's the last time I'm gonna write those out in full, there must be 500 identical step by steps and half as many YouTube vids. )
If your send key is green DO NOT DO THIS

HTC Mozart 7 : Available update: HTC Update for Windows Phone (from 7.0.7392)

I have a HTC Mozart 7, ROM Asia, jailbreak with chevronwp7, and upgraded sd-card to 32 GB, used in Thailand, and updated to the last 7.0.7392. Today, 23/07/2011, when I pluged it into my PC and run the Zune. it's ask me for update from HTC. After, I finished the update, my firmware still be 7.0.7392. I can't see anything different from the previous usage. But, I can notice that the change is concern about version of software for HTC itself in settings->about menu.
Before:
Firmware revision number: 2250.09.12902.707
Radio software version: 5.51.09.06_22.30.50.09U
Bootloader version: 1.26.2250.1(111641)
After:
Firmware revision number: 2250.21.13301.707
Radio software version: 5.65.09.25_22.45.50.21U
Bootloader version: 1.33.2250.1(123643)
** and I still can use Tom XAP, Application Deployment, or XAPDeployX to install any .xap file as normal jailbreak as same as before doing the update.
anyone has noticed another changing?
The 7.0.7392 is the WP7 OS version.
These updates have been rolling to several WP7 phones and updates hardware drivers that communicate with the OS itself, improving several general aspects but it does not include any OS update.
Yep. I think so. The Update from HTC is only for update its software/driver version.
has anyone with T-Mobile Germany HTC Mozart original or flashed HTC Europe recieved this yet?
probelm with my new mozart 7
enyone help me..
i have update my mozrt
but want i update its my pc was shutdown

can you enter to boot loader menu? by pressing volume down (-) and press the power button. (two button togetter, until it open) if you can see the boot loader screen. (colorfull). I think you can find the Mozart ROM and re-flash it again follow your location.

upgrade Mango without Nodo installed?

Hi
I have a htc sorround windows phone from AT&T. It was impossible to upgrade to NODO before, I got error and NODO is not installed. Now I want to upgrade to latest WP7 7.5 (mango). How do I do that with my phone?
I tried to connect to zune, it shows my phone is up to day v7.0 (7008). I tried to do some trick to get update but it doesnt work.
So I stuck with old WP7 and cant upgrade to Mango. Could you please help me? I can up rom or do anything to upgrade this phone.
os version: 7.0.7008.0
FW revision no.: 2250.09.10307.502
HW revision no.: 0003
Radio sofware version: 5.51.09.06_22.30.50.09H
Radio hardware version: A.26.0.D4
Bootloader version: 1.3.2250.7(111288)
Chip SOC version: 2.2.5.0
Thank you
just got AT&T Surround from my friend last night and was crazy like you in upgrading to Mango, but now I have already been to Mango
Belows are what I have done with my phone and you can follow at your own risks
1- Download this original Nodo rom (7390) http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3197JKWZ
2- Bring the phone into bootloader mode (Shut down, Volume down+Power button). Install the downloaded .exe file with Admin previlege on Windows 7 when the phone is already in bootloader mode
3- Open Zune with Internet connect, It will report that you are up to date although you are on 7390
4- On the phone, remove ticks on Settings/Cellular/Data. Turn off Wifi. Tick to "Use cellular data to find update" in Phone Update
5- On Zune, click to any other rows, ie. "Do more on the web" above Updates
6- On Zune, back to Updates. During it is checking, turn off all internet connections on your PC (Wifi, LAN...). You may have 7 seconds to do these
7- Right after turning off all connections on PC, you may have 5 seconds to turn on Wifi on your phone (it already had a known Wifi and you should make this setting ready first)
8- On Zune and phone, Update will appear. Turn on Internet connection on PC, then click Update on Zune
9- It will bring you to 7392, then 74.., then 7720 (Mango)
10- Done
I have done successfully with Vietnam Viettel SIM inside
Actually, I don't know why we need such a crazy trick to keep our phone up-to-date. Like Iphone, all trends is to mainstream users who don't need to deeply understand such technology tricks. Iphone is really easyto use for any people, and its update process is also really simple (plug the cable and Itunes do it for you or now is OTA)
Windows phone also have objectives to bring easy to use to users but with such trick above, i don't think is can be called "easy to use". I myself have read a lot about this "cable trick to upgrade" but fails a lot
Good luck !!!
Strange. Every one of my updates; pre NoDo, NoDo, Security, Mango Beta, Mango Beta2, Mango, Mango Beta Cleanup and two HTC Firmware updates, have gone smooth as silk. Maybe users should not try to undermine the system that Microsoft went through a lot of effort to create.
DFT Mango ROM
I mucked around with my surround trying to do the legit upgrade path but keep the chevron unlock and could not get it to go I was lucky enough that my surround supported the HSPL/RSPL found in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647
once that was installed I was able to flash the DFT Mango ROM in this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1255129
Now I have my surround on mango and unlocked. Everything works perfectly the only thing I noticed is that my reception always shows 1 bar even though my data is fine, and I did several test calls and everyone can hear me fine. All in all I am happy and the flashing is way faster the going to mango via the upgrade path.

HTC-Update (firmware) fails

Guys,
i have a Mozart branded with T-MO Germany and the latest Mango Update. All is stock, nothing tweaked.
Today I was announced that an HTC Update is due (firmware) supposedly bringing the Tethering to my device.
Unfortunately this updates does not succeed on my device... I tried every recommended thing, switched PCs, hard resetted the device, tried it over and over again.
After a little investigation I found out that my device seems to have pretty old Bootloader and Firmware versions compared to the device my colleague updates successfully this morning... I have the impression, that this might be the reason, why my device keeps failing.
Here the important information:
OS ver: 7.10.7740.16
FW ver: 2250.09.12505.111
Radio softw. ver: 5.50.09.18_22.24.50.09U
Radio hardw. ver: A.102.0.D4
Bootloader ver: 1.25.2250.5 (111337)
Any ideas what the problem could be and how I could fix it?
The error code Zune throws: 80180008 - Update unsuccessful
Thanx for your replies...
Same prob here - I am on b/l 1.32 though.
Hello,
I have the same issues. Did you guys get a result on this?
Hi All,
Just letting you know that I fixed my issue.
I ended up downloading and installing the Telstra branded ROM from this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=915827 then worked through all the updates and the latest HTC update worked, no error.
Not sure why but anyway I now have internet sharing on my Mozart - happy camper!
Thanks
Adam

Unfortunatly zune does not really tell us whats the problem underneath and the error code does not get us anywhere. Even not the suggested use of WPRestoreToolv2 (4.8.2345) gets us out of the problem.
For what i have found out the reason for the latest HTC OEM Update to actually fail is that its signature can't be verified by the installer on the device and thus the update is not getting installed. The failing signature check itself is caused by the fact that at least one of the previous HTC OEM updates were not installed. This can be verified indirectly by looking for example at the bootloader version.
The solution is quite simple: use cab sender to install the 1st HTC OEM Update and then you can successfully install the second HTC OEM Update, either by using cab sender again or via zune.
Hello bleh815,
I am getting the same issue (error 80180008), and you are suggesting:
[The solution is quite simple: use cab sender to install the 1st HTC OEM Update and then you can successfully install the second HTC OEM Update, either by using cab sender again or via zune.]
Any idea, where I can obtain the 1st and 2nd HTC OEM updates?
ZUNE only finds the 7740.16, but fails to install. I can install the cabs, if I can get hold of the OEM cabs of HTC.
Thanks

HTC OEM Update 2250.21.51201.707

Hi for everybody!
So I've downloaded that HTC OEM 2250.21.51201.707 Update CAB and send it to my Russian Mozart with 2250.21.51201.411 onboard. It accepted it and updated successfully, but I see no difference between those versions. The question is: should it be any difference?
Updated:
Just got some firmware update in Zune after updating! Sorry, did not catch it, but I have second Mozart and gonna do the same.
2250.21.51205.707
Well, the Zune HTC OEM update was just 2250.21.51205.707 with bootloader version 5.12.2250.5(139188). The question still remains: what's new?
Since it seems annoying bug with unresponsive screen after un-plugging a charger (and I hope all those not-able-to-answer-the-phone-until-you-on-and-off-the-screen bugs too) is gone though, I'm gonna update my main Mozart and I'll try to catch this update.
2250.21.51205.707 is so last year. My Mozart is running 2250.21.51301.401.
If I remember correctly 51205 was the one that enabled internet sharing.
Not interesting I've downgraded from 5.12 to 5.10, the installed OEM package 2250.21.51007.401 and Mozart accepted it... Then I tried to flash 401th ROMs, and they didn't
