I've ported a couple eclair roms to the vogue and Ive only been able to get video playback to work once. I cant repeat it. I cant seem to figue out wich files I need for this to work. It freezes after 1 or 2 frames and audio continues. It does it with youtube, browser video, or any local video I try and play as well. Does anyone know what files exactly have to do with this that I need to relace in order to acheive this functionality? Thanks alot, I appreciate it.

First of all, I am grateful that the vibrant can play divx encoded video files; I don't think I could live without it. Unfortunately it cannot stream them.
A solution is to start downloading the Avi and then [while its downloading] switch over to the Files application, go to the ".downloadTemp" folder [you need to first enable "hidden files" in the options], and open the incomplete *.avi in the stock video player application. This works wonderfully and i can instantly start watching a video AS IT DOWNLOADS.
UNFORTUNATELY, the video player app will not let me fast forward. Sometimes it lets me rewind, but it mostly takes me back to the very beginning of the video if I even touch the trackbar. And yes, for those who are wondering, the Video WAS sufficiently done downloading to reach the part of the video i wanted to fast forward to. I obviously wasn't trying to forward to the end of the video with only 10% of it downloaded.
I looked in the android market for alternative video players, and the only one that REMOTELY worked was Rockplayer. It would let me fast forward and rewind, except it was really glitchy and full of ads. I prefer just watching it on the perfectly stable stock Player than to use a glitchy one.
So i come to you guys, hoping for a solution. Any Ideas? Are there any other Video Players that i missed that will let me fast forward and rewind incomplete video files as they download?
(Oh, and if you're wondering the source of the videos, i usually just watch divx movies and shows that have been uploaded to megaupload, such as: megaupload.com/?d=T5D3YV8R&w=719&h=349)

Solved: VPlayer and Moboplayer support HTTP Streaming for DviX
I have read a few posts similar to yours, complaining about streaming divx avi files.
I myself do NOT have any issues with this and have tested a fair share of my 900gigs of divx avi's. I DO have issues stream MKV files while I have seen others report that they can stream MKVs.
What does this mean?
This means that AllShare is no different then any of the other DLNA based streaming software out there, there are compatibility problems that need to be worked out. Usually this is sorted out on the streaming server side and not the player.
I am saying that the software you are using to stream is more then likely causing the problem.
Give Twonky a try. Thats what I use and as I said I can stream divx/xvid avi's without issue. The downside is that Twonky is not free, the upside is that there is a 30 day trial to test and see if it resolves your issue. If it does, I dont think the price for Twonky is that bad, I paid $15. If you want a free one (they update compatibility less frequently) just google search DLNA or UPNP streamers and test a few out. XBMC is a good open source alternative, but is really not an option if you are using a windows box. XBMC is a program and not a service so you would be running a full media player at all times. XBMC can be setup as a standalone in linux though, if you have a spare PC to use.
Good luck.
When I say "stream," I don't mean from a home network source, I mean from an http source.
Therefore, I don't think the DLNA solution applies (Although i'm probably going to end up taking your advice for when i want to play videos from my computer, so thanks for the tip )
But that still leaves the current issue. Any Ideas?

AHHHHH.... I have been looking for a way to do this as well. HTTP streaming should no longer be an issue when 2.2 drops as sites like quicksilverscreen and the like all work fine through Flash 10.1 in 2.2. I have tested this with a Nexus1 and it works beautifully even over 3g.
I still want to have access to my home server though as I have close to a terabyte of video and my system is setup to auto download shows as they come out.
I am hoping to get my hands on a deODEXed version of the AllShare app to see if I can remove the WIFI only restriction. After that it should just be a matter of setting up a VPN back to my server.
Right, megavideo should work fine once we get the 2.2 update (woot! cant wait till we get flash xD)
as for movies uploaded on megaupload, I guess i'll survive with the .downloadTemp folder trick for now. Thanks.
And if i may ask, what's the quality like on allshare and twonky? and how fast does it respond to fast forwarding/rewinding?
I would like to stream from a regular windows samba share over wireless. I can't even get that working properly. It appears to be a limitation with the player and not the OS.
hi everyone. would be really grateful if someone could offer any advice.
when playing mp4s the video completely loses sync with the audio and video explorer bar starts at the beginning even though the video is still playing.
it only happens on video longer than 30 mins.
I've tried several converters including xillsoft video converter ultimate which has a specific setting for the hero.
I normally encode mp4 for iPod H264 as the file size is smaller but have also tried normal mp4, wmv etc but the issue still happens. a change in the resolution of video doesn't help either.
I've tried mobo player, zimly, rock player and good old stock but no avail.
I've tried several 2.1-2.3 Roms but that doesn't help.
It does work with Elelinux 2.1 stock but if i'm honest i really dont like sense roms.
does anyone know the optimal mp4 encoding settings for the hero?
is it possible its somehow kernal related e.g struggles to read larger file sizes?
sorry for the essay its just really bugging me lol thanks alot

Hi everyone,
Please could anyone offer any assistance to the current issue i'm having?
does anyone know the optimum mp4 settings to convert video for the hero?
Its strange that it works on elelinux sense 2.1 but not on any froyo or gingerbread roms.
thanks

try qq player...it worked for me
You might want to try this out.
I am no expert, but this seems to work for me.
I use Any Video Converter.
320 x 240
frame rate of 15
Audio codec is aac for me.
And I use Meridian to view my videos although stock works most of the time.
I am using Elelinux 2.3 (7) currently but this worked well with Stock sense ROM as well..
Hope this works.

Thanks for your replies everyone,
I have tried the solutions suggested but still doesnt work. It has left me puzzled as if works on 2.1 then why not 2.2, 2.3

Have tried looking through the various forum threads but so much there that I have not come across this. I have had my GTab for a few weeks and love it. have tried several roms and thanks to everyone for the awesome amount of resources. the first 10 days I was able to play videos from my computer and even movies and tv shows. As of a couple of day ago I can not play anything, get sound but nothing will play including the same stuff that played so well before. Have tried converting videos to various other formats and no luck get error message saying can not play video. Is this an issue with the GTAB, any fix or solution have even restored it back to its original TnT state when it came out of the box. have tried video files in internal SD, external SD and even off a usb stick, same results. Any advice would be greatly appreciated....Thanks !!
I download a lot of avi, and xvid tv shows so I can watch later and without commercials. Currently I'm using Calkulin+Clemsyn 1.5ghz Froyo Combo VERSION 5. Even the stock movie player works nice and smooth(no converting). The only other ROM I tried was VEGAn-Tab GingerEdition. It's a good ROM, but not for video playback. I may switch to a Honeycomb ROM when the hardware acceleration issues are worked out.
I use Rock Player and it plays everything I've thrown at it... Although it sounds like maybe you're having some issues with the OS? Maybe try clearing settings for the video player or something?
I use meridian player revolute and paid for the pro version verifier. I'm having problems with the videos freezing when I play a playQ or try to play videos in a folder. I haven't had this problem since i upgraded to ICS 4.0.3 and I was curious if anyone else has this problem or could test it. I have all videos in mp4 format, they play fine, but at the end of one, sometimes it just hangs till I hit Next on the screen.
I emailed the developer and he had no help for me, told me to make a music playlist and try playing that, which is nowhere near what I wanted to do. I want it to be video and it want to be able to randomize it. If anyone knows of a replacement app that could do this with ease, and load my video file list fast, let me know please!

Ive been searching all over the forums and the few threads Ive found asking this question do not really give any answers and all seem to be very old, like 2010 old. What I need to be able to do is have music playing on the music player and then take video without the music stopping. I dont care about sound quality in the recording, I can remaster later if needed. The problem I have is that I only have one device for both playing music and capturing video and there is a specific place and a specific time where I want to take a video of the moment, while also being able to hear the music that matches that moment. Is there any way I can force the music player to stay on during video capture? The video itself will not need sound to be recorded at all, but if it could capture the music in the video, that would be nice too.
I managed to do this with gingerbread 2.3.5 using stock camera and mixzing player.
I also can do that now with my ICS 4.0.4 (cm9), stock camera and mixzing player.
It also works on 4.0.4 with stock mp3 player and CameraZoomFX.
Record video while playing music
Hello, I am running ViperOne 4.3 now and I absolutely love it. I was wondering if any one else is able to record video while playing music as prior to this (locked, not rooted, and stock 4.3) I was able to do so. I did not check this with 4.4 but then again it only lasted 1 day on my phone before I found this amazing rom.
Anyways, if anyone has figured this out or if it could be added to future updates please let me know!!
Thanks,
