well u can either have root or the r2ba020 firmware.
choice is urs.
if u want root stick to the instructios.
if u want r2b then follow jerpleas guide to flash r2b firmware on the x10.
chetan
Where is jerpeleas guide? Is that the one for flash tool? Because I can't get it to work :S

thanks for the quick reply do we have any experts here on optimus flashing a easy guide would be nice what and which files go where when they are downloaded really confusing what to do with the decryprted files do we leave them in the zip format or do we have to unzip them we them end up with loads of files if they are unzipped.Hope someone can shed abit of light on optimus as i can see this is the easy and free way to get back home.

can do two ways.
one download the decrypted files. unzip it, use the flash tool provided by jerplea.
if u have the rom files as downloaded by seus then u can use seus to update or omnius.
in omnius the larger file goes in the first box and the smaller in the next.

Unzip the original zip file so there is 2 files - phone.zip and R1FB001.zip (or whatever its called). In Omnius for the "application" file choose the R1FB001 File and for the "customization" file choose phone. Zip. You really cant go wrong

seus does not work have already tried it blags on about firmware already up to date tried all the methods i am comming from root back to x10i latest firmware so seus is no good ominus is the way to go back if anyone wants to go back after they have rooted and dont like it.
I managed to restore back again. I just copied the .sin files in from a decrypted firmware into the step 1 folder then ran step 1.bat
Works like a charm
I can now repair in Sony Ericsson Updater again
How many . Sin files what about zip file that is named phone can u give details of files to replace
I was able to successfully unroot my x10a with omnius. And then I updated to the x10i firmware again Going to wait until full root is achieved and stable.

Well I used R2BA020 for flash tool version.
From the large file I copied across the system file which had a really long name so I renamed it to system.sin
From the smaller file I coppied;
amss_fs.sin
apps_log.sin
amss.sin
fota0.sin
fota1.sin
recovery.sin
dsp1.sin
boot.sin
cache.sin
Then I ran step 1.bat again and then I just repaired in Updater Tool.
Hope this helps.
thanks Findee! works for me.
Really sorry if I'm hijacking the thread.. I recently rooted and I don't really like root right now so... Figured it would be a waste to start a whole new thread again.
Just so I'm sure I'm doing it right.. I have the two O2 R2 firmware files I used to debrand my X10 with PC Companion.
Can I use these in Omnius? They don't seem to show up as "compatible file" types when browsing for them. However the ones that are in zip format are.
Which ones do I use? The ones from the debrand method or the "flash tool" files.
Use the decrypted zip ones in in optimus very simpley
thanks Findee!!!!

Hi Before I only uploaded the system.img partition but ive done some basic converting of the rest, the FTF came as 3 files I only ever did one, due to easter and time constraints never got round to the rest so here it is:
It's my hope that with this we can finally start to build a custom Kernel to allow overclocking and other bits.
Have fun:
(link uploading now) http://www.multiupload.com/HLTFSS270P
This maybe what's needed to fix the HK one's this may need flashing (note this is just the .SIN package at the moment no other works been done ive had no chance yet)

not yet no, I need to speak to Bin4ry and find out how to rebuild the packages there is a special way of doing it for SE apparently I just haven't had the time to speak to him.
The above is pure stock.
but we now have a full dump available
Great! Thanks Waz! Hope a full ftf file can be built soon so i can revive my play....
is there a way for me to compile this together with the 3 files you posted last time to make a full ftf file using flashtools? or its not that simple? really wanna revive my play......

I really don't know at this stage as I don't know the process to convert it back.
I can make a system.img using a kitchen but cant seem to complete the package with kernel etc.
you could always try flashing the kernel again it's worth a shot?

ALso for extras, i am wanting to install Jereplea's cm 7.0.2 (2.3.3) ROM, but it is in .,rar format, so i cannot flash it via xrecovery. I'm not sure how to use flashtool, as it needs some .ftf file that i cannot find, and it will not allow me to flash.
Didn't you made a backup with xrec? Restore if you did. If not, install again 2.1 rom. You can find tft files in the first post of Flashtool thread.
About J's CM7, maybe the zip is in the rar file. Just extract it.

Btw, how do you flash baseband 52?
Its needed for J's CM7 rom.
I can find firmware stuff, but i dont know exactly how to make a .ftf thing.
OK, titanium backup is not the same. It makes backup of apps, not the whole rom.
You can slash firm .504, it comes with bb 52.
Download the tft, put it in /firmware forlder of flashtool (on the computer). Then start fashtool, connect x10 and hit Flash button, choose the tft file and go on.

wow... this is wrong information/ some of it anyway.
first.... 435. comes with .54bb not 52. second. be more helpful and not give links he has to chase around....
flash tool is very easy to use once you have it installed... if you still have recovery dont flash a fresh install of a 2.1 your wasting time.
if revoery works. download the winrar program for the cwm file that you want to install. its like winzip slightly differnet. it will then give you the flashable zip you want. most likely it is named updat.zip. put that on your sd card.
if you need the .52bb yes it is included in the folder with the rom. it is in tft format already... drop that into the firmware folder where you have flashtool located. then simply click on flash.. it will show the .52 files there will be several.
if they are not there... click on the advanced tab and scroll to bottom where it says bundle creation click on it and find the tft file you inserted into the firmware folder and when it opens the window up. drag all files from left to right and name the open spots at the top right. when done flash.
after that... reboot into recovery locate your zipfile for cm7 and let it install. voila your done

I appreciated your correction about the firm. Thats alright. In his second post, he said that he got only a backup from TB, not from xrec. That's why I told him to flash new 2.1.
The way you are explaining the other things is even harder for me to understand what you are trying to say. (And beleave me I understand allot of Android and X10) So for him maybe will be harder to understand about all that zips and stuff.

Jinglejo, good to know that your not a noob. might be a little easier to help you out beings it looks like you know whats up with your x10...
if i was to break it down in steps 1234....
1. Recovery works.... thats good
2. unrar the cwm file that you downloaded.
the tft files for bb .52 are included
3. take that file and drop it into firmware
4. open flashtool and click on advanced.... scroll down to bundle creation...
locate the file... is should read x10_52_changebaseband
5.once selected. a new window wil pop up. the files will be in .sin format now....
highlight all and drag to the box on the right.... top three boxes have to be filled in..
6.select ok and wait for files to be ready.
7. when done. click on flash...select firmware .52... hit ok..... wait till you are prompted to connect in flash mod... then connect and wait.
8. when done, reboot and wait for signal to appear..
9. once you have signal, reboot into recovery.
10. clear dalvik-cache, battery stats.
11. install your cm7 from J.
12. let us now if any of this works for you.
Im not confused, its just it says the baseband is unknown
So do i flash in the baseband 52?
J only gave us this bunch of .sin files and
Rendeiro gave a broken link to baseband 52.ftf that does not download properly.
Can you find me a link for it or tell me how to bunch up these .sin files to form a .ftf file?

yes flash in the bb .52.
locate the .sin files from where you have them stored and go to advanced and do bundle creation.
i was being stupid when i said it was in tft format ( my apologies) they are in .sin
once you have done a bundle creation it turns it into a tft then when you choose the file from flashtool. it shows them again as .sin
flash this and you should be good to go with radio

im not sure if that rom coms with devtools installed or not...
however if it does... open it up go to bad behavior. and click on crash system server...
if not... you may have to go with G's option and start fresh with a new install..
in that case if you have to do that... right after flashing the 435 firmware... root it, install recovery, power down... flash bb 52 then install the rom.
after that it should work fine without problems

Even if he has a locked bootloader he can use the new exploit to obtain root without unlocked bootloader. It works! And i have customized my bootanimation and removed bloatware etc.
The only thing you can't do yet is to install custom ROM's.

I have the 3 uk ics rom installed & removed all of the bloatware also changed the battery icon. I am just looking for a decent boot logo, but once i have completed the editing on my phone is it possible to create a ftf file or do i need to edit the original file? thx
You can just create a new ftf using flashtool, but I still can't figure out why you need it when you have CWM backups.

Just do a backup in recovery. It'll be in the clockworkmod folder on your sdcard. You can copy it to your PC just in case. When you need to restore, just put it back and restore in recovery. You'll even get all your apps and data back.

Is There any other way without downgrading?
Isn't there any other way without downgrading?
And how to I flash the file? Is it like the way you installed CWM for me?
Nope. This one is much more safe. Use flashtool , put the .ftf in the flashtool/firmwares directory , install the drivers needed for your phone in the drivers directory if flashtool does not recognise your phone.. Make a backup first!! First use Sony's update service program(http://www.sonymobile.com/in/tools/update-service/)
and click update , when it says "you are on the latest firmware" click install which will re-load your firmware into your phone (follow instructions there) then go to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Mobile\Update Service\db\13740270\blob_fs folder (program files in case of 32 bit computer)
create a folder called "Source_files" in c:\
in C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony Mobile\Update Service\db\13740270\blob_fs you"ll find One large file (~400MB) and 2 smaller files (~14MB and ~64KB) .Copy those 3
files to "C:\Source_files"
then use flashtool >advanced >decrypt files , Select source folder : "C:\Source_files" , From Files, select all (Click & Ctrl + A) and click -> to move the 3 files to "Files to convert" click ok From Folder list, select all and click -> to move all files to Firmware content. If it is ICS, tick the Disable Final Verification Check , On Device write the model click ok and let it finish
When it finishes the .ftf file can be found on "C:\Flashtool\firmwares
Hit thanks if it helped

Thank you for the answer. Iam coming from Samsung s4 forum and there we have pre rooted tar.md5 firmware that we can flash with odin. Just the same way we flash stock tar.md5 firmware that sammobile releases. Was wondering if we could take the ftf file and open it than put all the needed files in it for root than make ftf again and than flash it with flashtool.

You're talking about the stock recovery, like on Samsung and HTC devices(?). That doesn't exist on Sony devices as far as i know, so you'll have to do the recovery part from your computer using Flashtool or Sony Companion.

No talking about making a stock ftf firmware that have root in the system. So that we only have to flash the pre rooted ftf firmware for a rooted rom.

Haha! Wrong thread!
To root a FTF file, we need to be able to find an exploit, and that's the issue people are currently working on. You've probably noticed that we have to downgrade to 532 to be able to root, and we're using vRoot which we have no idea how it works. We are all idiots and now we're paying. You'll have to wait until we have rooted 527, or you can use the exploit in 532 which i guess the chinese knows about.

You don't root ftf files. You root the firmware once it is installed via an ftf. The OP wanted to know if you could root a ftf file before it is installed so once installed you already have root, which isn't possible.

I have no idea how these things work on Sony devices, but Samsung md5 ROMs can be pre-rooted, so I guess I thought it's the same thing here, which is clearly not the case.

Unfortunately it's not. Really wish it was as it would make things a lot easier.

Thank you all for your answers. In the old days I rooted my Xperia x10 with just on click. Zroot app. Good old days.

Is the problem that .sin files are signed in some way? A FTF is just a zip file containing sin files, and the format of sin files is understood well enough that Flashtool will extract them into elf files that can be mounted with just a small amount of repair, so if you can convert a system.img back into a system.sin, you should in theory be able to have a pre-rooted FTF.
If whoever wrote Flashtool could add a feature to override flashing a sin with an additional img, that would also do it.
(I first rooted my C6833 this way, following the guide at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44612882 )

That sounds very logical and not impossible. Hope some dev can look in to this.
I looked into it a bit more, and in fact sin files are signed (that's actually what the extension is short for, apparently). It was implied that flashmode will only accept signed files, which is why all of the steps to flash rooted image files go through fastboot mode, which can apparently flash anything (is this true? not sure if it it can flash all regions) but is less convenient to use.
That leaves two options for a one-pass rooted update:
1) Find the code responsible for bootloading and alter it to accept an additional signing key. This would have to be fastboot loaded the first time, but would allow modified FTFs later. Downsides: this is the stuff of which hard bricks can be made if anything goes wrong. There will be no way to flash anything if the flashing code itself is broken. Also, it may not even be possible if the code is in a fixed ROM somewhere.
2) Come up with code to unpack FTFs to a series of images that would be flashed sequentially by a fastboot script and discard FTF and sin files as a standard. Downsides: horribly inconvenient, and probably not worth the effort.
Keep in mind that the only thing you are saving yourself by putting it all in one pass is the effort of installing a working CWM kernel briefly to install the SuperSU zip into the freshly flashed FTF, then flashing the original kernel back. Going through a FTF conversion pass is probably more total time spent even if it worked. Without a working CWM kernel, then you would have to go through a bit more effort to unpack the system.sin, modify it, repack it as an image, and flash that, though it's possible someone well trusted could do that and redistribute the result (legally grey), but we seem to be in luck on that front for the moment.
