Revert to Stock ROM? - Hero, G2 Touch Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there, I have a T-Mobile G2 Touch (HTC Hero) and I want to go back to the stock T-Mobile ROM, but I've been told that if I re-flash then it'll brick my phone?
I'm running the latest version of VillainROM 10.3.2 and I found that I may need a Nandroid backup or something? If someone could possibly re-direct me to where I need to find a Nandroid recovery image for my phone, I'd be greatful!
Can you just confirm that I CAN/CAN'T re-flash my phone to Stock?
Help is appreciated! Thanks!
EDIT: I used flashrec to make a back up of the recovery image or some sort? On my SD card is "recovery-backup.img"? Does this help?
Thanks!

I am not sure how it will brick your phone and maybe someone here can advise you on this.
The recovery-backup.img is just an image of the stock bootloader that comes with your phone. If you wish to apply official OTA updates, you will need to restore to your stock bootloader using the flashrec app even after u have reverted to the stock ROM.
Hope it helps =)

HELP ME! PLEASE! Urgent!

Okay, I just rooted my brother's HTC Hero (GSM Unlock) and updated it to 2.1 Villain, but there were some bugs, like in the messages app, the key board wouldn't show up in a conversation. FB Sync wouldn't sync pictures to his contacts. Is there any way I can downgrade back to the original 1.5? If so, can anyone give me a link to download that .zip? thanks!
*note* I tried flashing the official 2.1 update, it failed
And what is a Nandroid backup? Can I restore it with that?

You really should have read up before just rooting and flashing. A nandroid backup is a backup of the phone so you can restore to how it was before you started to play with it.
You can download the rom you require here.
You should have done a Nandroid backup before trying to flash a new ROM, this is a MUST DO everytime you plan on messing around with the phone, it would simply let you restore the backup back to normal.
You need to do a full wipe of the phone and flash the new ROM posted above.

Can I just flash a stock rom of the HTC Hero generic? I flashed a rooted one, but I keep getting this notification about an OTA,I tried installing it, but it fails. If I flash a stock rom (if possible) can I install the OTA's?
I seem to be having somewhat the same problem.
Although I didnt flash my hero to that custom rom you're mentioning.
The problem is that I've been running the modaco 3.0 rom for quite a while and wanted to get the stock 2.1 rom.
I've tried to flash it using the HTC tool but couldn't be done. I accidently overrided my nandroid backup of the stock 1.5 rom so I found a stock 1.5 on modaco's forum and flashed it.
Now I'm running 1.5, build 2.73.405.5
Every time I wipe the phone and start from scratch (setting up the phone as if it was new) I get a notification about a new OTA update. When I try to update it, the phone resets (seems fine) and it ends up in Nandroid and doesn't get any further.
Then I chose to reboot the phone and the phone runs as normal but still no new firmware.
What am I doing wrong?
I've also tried the HTC tool for flashing the ROM but end up with a connection error (170).
I have of course wiped the phone but it doesn't help...

I have the same problem! And when I do flash 2.1, the keyboard never appears when I go to the messages app. I just flashed an official stock 2.73.405.66 build, what if I do the OTA? Will it fail too? 'Cause I think it fails because last time, my phone was rooted.
Anyone got help? :-/

[Q] Android ROM Help

Hello Everyone
I Have A An LG P509 And I Was Wondering If There Was A Rom With Swype Availible For This Phone Thats A Gingerbread Rom.
Also I Was Wondering If I Want To Unroot Later Will The Recovery Rom Have To Be The Same Firmware? For Ex (The Recovery Has To Be 2.3 If I Rooted It To That) And How Is It Possible For The Phone To Be Back To Its Original State When Unrooted?
I KNow I Asked 3 Questions (So Sorry For That) But These Things Been Rolling Around My Head For A While. If You Do Help I Thank You Greatly
1.no, u can get swype for free. Google for swype beta.
2.yes
3.yes unless u installed custom recovery.
Unrooting is not the same as flashing an original recovery firmware. I have not done this so this is just my imagination.
There are some posts for the original P509 recovery if you wanted to flash the LG firmware to return the phone to the original. You can also save the original recovery firmware before flashing a custom recovery. That uses the "dd" command to make an img file. I should have done that first. Look in the posts to find that exact command.
Unrooting is mostly just removing the Superuser app and "su" command and doesn't require reflashing, I imagine.
I don't know about the Swype for gingerbread.
Thanks For For The Help Guys But If It Has To Be The Same 2.3 (Gingerbread) Rom How Can I Return The Phone Back To The Original State When The Original State Is 2.2 (Froyo) Is There a rom i dont know about?

You will make a NAND backup before installing the new ROM. If you want to go back -> Restore backup.
Or you cand use KDZ update; it will install a fresh new factory ROM, your phone will be just like when you unboxed it.

[Q] Is there no stock Rogers files out there?

so ive been reading and looking around a lot, eventually decided to go with the overcome experience and everything is running great, xcept for the ebooks app not working on it for the 3G rogers tab
but what ive been trying to find now is the stock Rogers kernel and recovery files in case something does go wrong with the tab and i need to get it back to stock to submit it back for warranty work
the best ive been able to find is this...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1405324
which is a stock 3.2, and in the thread people are claiming that it is a Rogers version and has the unnecessary Rogers apps on it
i downloaded it and tried it out, and its not a stock Rogers version, doesn't come with the Rogers apps, and when plugged in to Kies it states its not a version that supports updates through Kies, therefore it definetly isn't a stock Rogers version
Just wondering if anyone knows where i can get the files to be able to get my Tab back to Rogers stock version in case something does happen, or do these files simply not exist and since i already flashed over them it's too late to ever go back to stock?
Thanks
That RUXKK2 is exactly the rom I have right now on my Rogers Tab.
I simply assume it has to be flashed through Odin only;
Kies is for "legit" updates only (and sync) ; it is not a dev nor a recovery tool. Maybe it stated updates were not supported because you are rooted.
Doesnt matter anyway; you will receive updates through Samsung Updates anyway directly on your tablet; you'll simply loose root.
i did use odin to flash that stock rom, and no i wasn't rooted, as the rom itself doesn't come with root by default
all i did was flash with odin, it rebooted, then i completed a factory reset/wipe
and then plugged it in to Kies to see if it was in fact a retail stock version and could get the updates through Kies
i dont really care for updating through Kies as im perfectly happy with overcome mod atm, but i would like to have all the stock rogers files (recovery, kernel and rom or w/e else i need) just in case i ever need to revert back to stock to bring the tablet in for warranty issues
the RUXKK2 rom may be stock, but it definitely doesn't include the stock rogers kernel version
any ideas where those could be found? or if it could be extracted from a nandroid backup? i completed a nandroid backup of my stock device before i flashed overcome
Flashing your Nandroid will get you back to stock no? Thats the purpose of it I thought to get you back to your previous state in case something goes wrong. Nandroid backups are flashed through CWM though not Odin, under Backup and restore options.
Nandroid does not backup the kernel.

yea, nandroid doesnt back up everything :/
i think the stock kernel and stock recovery files to flash through odin is what would be needed, and judging by the replies im getting i don't think those exist out there for the rogers tablet :/
i even checked http://www.samfirmware.com and couldn't really find a rogers or Canadian version, but sure did find ppl on the forums asking about it
if any1 knows how to maybe get those files off a stock tablet, i do have a 2nd GT 10.1 Rogers that has not been changed or modded in any way that i could attempt to extract the kernel and recovery file from if i knew how
I also am looking for a stock rogers rom. I currently run overcome with no issues, but should I need work done under warranty, I need to flash back to stock before I send it in. The link above was what I also found during a forum search, which kies does NOT recognize. Has anyone been able to find or extract the stock rom that comes with a Rogers 10.1 out of the box?
Ooops mistaken threads..

Stock Flashable ROM

Alright, so I wiped my phone in TWRP in preparation to flash something and I neglected to make a backup (I know, rookie mistake). The ROM I tried flashing will not go through and now I am stuck. I can boot into recovery fine but I really need a ROM to flash so I have something to boot into. I can't use an RUU (I have tried), probably because I used the bootloader unlock/root work-around. I'd gladly take any advice but I think what I need is just a flashable .zip of the stock ROM or maybe a backup I can restore in TWRP. If some kind soul could help me out, I'd be forever grateful.
are you referring the the stock rom offered by mycomputerdoctor? If so, the flashing does fail, but your phone will still work. From what I understand the only problem is the error in TWRP and you wont have root anymore.
My phone does indeed still work, but I wiped /system before trying to flash so I don't have a ROM installed currently and therefore cannot boot past the splash screen.

Unfortunately, that is an RUU, which does not work for me. Thanks, though.
install the rom, even if it says fails, it should still boot. you could also just adb push the updated rom on to your sd card.

Im in the same boat :/ stuck in recovery and have no rom to flash. going to try to adb the latest version and see how that goes.
I was afraid of something like this. We shouldn't be messing with our phones without a back to factory state.
I'm actually all set now. I flashed the updated stock, debloated ROM and made a back up so I'm good to go.

[Q] Returning everything on phone to Stocks/Defaults

Hello everybody. I recently flashed my phone with the latest Cyanogenmod rom for the HTC one, using the wHil recovery flasher. However after playing with the rom for a bit I decided I want to swap back to stock everything that came with my phone. What is the process to go about doing this?
Thanks!
Did you make a nandroid before flashing the Rom, if yes then just flash it then flash stock tmobile recovery img then relock the bootloader..just do a quick search and you find out how to do it... But it will still say tampered on bootloader... But ota will work cause that only requires stock recovery and stock Rom
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 2
I did not, however I downloaded someone else's stock nandriod dump.
So all I need to do is flash the stock rom, flash the stock recovery, relock the bootloader and I should be able to get OTA updates and all that good stuff again?

Yes, that's what I did, and OTA updates work perfert
That's great to hear. So I shouldn't experience any issues when I return to the stock rom like loosing any kind of features and such?
I've been having issues trying to adb push this backup to my phone since 4.2 andriod has things locked down in regards to backups. Been getting the device not found issue, so I'm going to try and push it using a different PC soon hopefully. With where I work I can't live without WiFi calling/texting that Cyanogenmod lacks
So I have the stock backup through clockwork mod and I have it in the proper /clockworkmod/backup folder. Problem is, clockwork mod touch isn't detecting that I have any backups to restore. So I decided to make a fresh backup just to see where it was placed so I could put this other backup I downloaded in there.
Problem. I can't find it anywhere. I don't know where to put it. I don't know where clockworkmod touch wants it to go. Any ideas?
EDIT: Apparently there are two of these folders? *looking more*
EDIT 2: Clearly, If I try to restore from the saved backups, it shows the backup I made, but no amount of searching is finding it through any of my file managers. I'm finding the backup I downloaded, but not the one I made. wtf? Are there hidden folders or something? I have root access.
EDIT 3: There are apparently two clockwork mod folders on my phone. Clockwork mod is saying that it sees the test backup I made on 6-10, but when I check in my file manager for a backup, it shows me the folder with a 4-26 backup which is what I want to restore. The FILE MANAGER sees a folder with 4-26, whereas clockworkmod sees a folder with a backup of 6-10. Both folders are apparently clockworkmod/backup. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here?
So I just flashed the stock rom, reinstalled the stock rescue image, and relocked my bootloader.
How long does it take for me to be able to get the 4.2 update?
change yearThe
