I am not sure about that, but I don't think you can change it, because the radio just does not support those freq's ...
I may be wrong ...
Just a suggestion, may want to put something about your actual question in the title , more people may look at it then ...

you are correct. Its hardware, you cant change the bands. If you flash different cooked roms you can make it show you the different bands in settings, but it will still use the hardware bands it shipped with, regardless.

T-Mobile PPC-PE on Orange UK

Please tell me there is a way to get the T-Mobile version of the XDA (from Canada) to work on the Orange network in the UK! :?:
I have just bought one for my Dad (I already have an O2 XDA on Orange) and I've gone into the bootloader and selected radio 900/1800 which i believe is what orange runs on, but when I put my Sim into the device it just says no service
It's currently got RS 6.24.00 on the device, do I need to change this to 4.21.00 ?
If so how ? As I can't see the option in the bootloader to load/backup rom's like on mine
Please help
Cheers
Neil
Anyone ?
try to do a search i'm pretty sure that the gsm settings cant just be changed in software, and if thats the case then a US (900/1900) can never be used in EU (900/1800)
xda2 dont have that issues because it's triband (900/1800/1900)
Have tried searching already... couldn't find anything of relevance
There is the option in the bootloader that includes 1800, can't remember what the other exact options were as I don't have the phone with me atm. But I'm pretty sure the one I selected was 900/1800, so I hope (and pray) that this phone supports 1800.
Do I also need to select the band through WM2003 aswell as doing it in the bootloader?
Can someone confirm what band the UK networks Orange and Vodafone use, just to make sure I'm trying it with the right ones...
Any help much appreciated, as I'm getting desperate on this one, as its a crimbo present for my dad..
Cheers
Neil
EU as in all cellphone companies use 900/1800
it's the EU std like PAL is
US use 900/1900 and i dont think anybody else use that
did a quick search in the forum and came across this
http://xda-developers.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=3064&highlight=900+1800
S**t S**t S**t thats not good
I've just been doing some searching on google and found that Cellnet and Vodafone use 900 & 1800, and Orange and One2One use 1800.
Does this mean I will be able to use Voda or Cellnet as they use 900.. and the phone is on 900 / 1900 ????
Cheers
Probably, just shove a voda or O2 card in and see what happens.
Thanks to everyone who helped, my Dad has now been given his PPC and it works on Voda

Question about the XDA Developers Rom.....

Hi, I have a Wallaby which was originally from the United States. I live in England however. I downloaded the XDA Developers Rom and installed it which unlocked my device with no problems. However, the only network I seem able to use is O2 (I tried a friends chip) but I want to use my T-Mobile UK chip. I tried the function included in the rom which allows you to switch bands but I still cant get it to recognise T-Mobile, I don't know if it is anything to do with the radio stack, I don't think it is but I could be wrong? Anyway, can any of you offer anyt advice or have you maybe had the same or a similar problem? If so I would really appreciate any imput you might have. Many thanks.
xda1 is only dualband and us xda1's only support 900/1900 not 900/1800 like eu use no way of getting around that really
hi
my previous wallaby was phone edition DT Com from the states, friend of mine which bought it there for me unlocked it and I used it normally in Bosnia, also he had one US wallaby marked as siemens sx56 also unlocked and used here too. As far as I can remember he also bought one more for his cousin here too... Now you know where all those old wallabys are - here !
Dont want to argue is it possible or not just want to inform you, maybe those wallabys was some special kind, dont know.
GL
900Mhz is used by both us and eu so operators who use that band are supported but there is no way to make a dual band a tri band or any way to change a eu dualband to a us dualband that i know of
My Qtek 1020, incidentally bought in the UK, also suffers from this 'feature' and as a result only works on O2 and Vodafone (maybe others but those for sure), but definitely not on T-Mobile and Orange.
Regards,
Neil.

The link to Optus ROM on http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael_WM6.1_ROMs does not work. Can somebody repost? My Fuze Raphael does not have 900 UMTS frequency listed and I would like to flash it with Optus ROM in order to get YesG coverage. Am I on the right track?

No as it's hardware dependent the bands not software..
Well, I have the original AT&T HTC Fuze. According to the GSMArena, it should support 900 UMTS (HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100 - HTC Fuze), which is not listed in my unit.
I am using a Touch Pro on Optus and live in a rural area that has only the 900Mhz 3G network. The 900Mhz band doesn't show up in the settings no matter which ROM I flash....yet I'm still picking up up the 900Mhz band without any problems. Try setting your band settings to "auto" and see if you can get 3G...
Today I flashed Energy.RAPHAEL.21889.Standard_27.Jan.2010.rar ROM. Guess what? Now I have the desired UMTS 900/2100 displayed. In a few days I will go to the country area, with YesG (UMTS 900) coverage only, and we'll see whether it is working. My Radio is 1.08.25.20 which seems to be popular here in Australia, even though my TytnII has better reception at the same spot.
Another thing I want to try is VOIP, which is working fine on NOKIA E51, but not so on Windows based HTC, where it is quite unusable. Apparently, there is native support for it in WM6.5, so, I don't know, whether I have to add rilphone.dll (which version) to it?

you can change that drop down yourself from the registry, there should be 5 entries there but generally most roms will only show the first 3 (thats all they use in the US)

[Q] HTC aria - which image for use in europe

Hi guys,
I'm really new to this, so please excuse me asking basic stuff.
I am an iPhone user and I am familiar with linux and flashing of a huge number of different devices (Nokia, Xbox360, Xbox, Siemens, PSX...). I am living in the US, but my girlfriend lives in Germany. What I did is, I got her a AT&T locked HTC Aria for x-mas. I am aware of the difference between rooting and unlocking, but still I have some basic questions:
1. Do I unlock the device before or after I root? Does it make a difference at all?
2. As the phone is meant to be used in Germany, which (as unbranded as possible) image should I use? Can I use liberated R012/FR006 or doesn't this work in Europe? Could I use the Gratia Image?
2a.) Shall I go for FroYo or rather stick with Eclair?
3. Does the change/upgrade/renew of the image affect the unlock in any way?
4. Can I unlock the phone with an app or similar, when the device is rooted or do I have to pay for the unlock code?
Thank you so much in advance, I really appreciate your work and your help,
Tim
P.S. I used the forum search and did not find an current answer to my questions
Maybe someone can also give me some advice on what to read, just to understand the basic stuff.
Thanks!
Hi, I'm not an expert, but here is my experience in case it helps:

I unlocked first with HTCSimUnlock.com - had to pay the extended search fee.

I used liberated_aria_R012, then the "update": la_www_update_R002_signed referenced in the first post in his thread. However I can't get Titanium Backup to remove the bloatware social networking stuff like facebook, ppok, etc., as others recommend. I also couldn't remove them using the complicated "SDK" method as the "ADB" can't find the phone. I don't know whether this is anything to do with the version of the ROM (I know there are more recent versions), but I got fed up after 6 hours trying, so now my wife (it's her phone) just has to live with the clutter
2a.) Shall I go for FroYo or rather stick with Eclair?

The version I have is Eclair - works fine, not noticeably faster or slower than the stock ROM.

Don't think so - not for me anyway, I have used many network SIM cards in the UK, US, Poland, Macedonia, Qatar, UAE, Italy (haven't been to Germany recently, sorry!)

I think I know how you feel. Even after a few years of familiarity with custom ROMs for Windows Mobile phones, this business of android "rooting", "ADB-ing", etc. and commands that look like Unix, it all sounds a a bit intimidating, especially since the "flash menu" entries aren't quite as the guides say in respect of the USB connection, bot following this thread about "unrevoked" is the way I went.
Good luck
I don't think the rom you use will really matter, so I'd recomnd (if you don't mind running on the experimental side) the cm6.1 roms.
For unlocking, just call att and tell them you want to use it for international travel. They'll give you the code for free. I did this with my old blackberry 9000, took a few weeks, but it was basically 0 hassle. My experience was with an off contract phone, but I understand it works with on contract phones as well, someone correct me if i'm wrong, but theres no harm in trying.
hi
i would suggest to wait for gratia in europe (i think it should be released in some days)
i use a aria in austria (ordered a week before htc pronounced that gratia will come to europe ) - works fine but only edge not hsdpa is working for data connection (due to differenze frequences in us & europe)
otherwise no problem with that greate phone

I get HSPDA with my wife's AT&T Aria, in all the European countries & Middle Eastern I visited and except rarely when in the UK and she doesn't get an Orange signal (her carrier), and it switches to T-Mobile's GPRS. Not sure if Austria's different, or may be the APN settings are working, but in my experience HSPDA is possible with the Aria phone hardware.

I tried that but they refused as I wasn't the original AT&T owner (got it from eBay). Maybe you'll be luckier.
There's a helpful looking video on youtube by the way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjgg__m-KHc. Although it doesn't look like an AT&T phone, it seems to cover all the steps.
@kc1: are you sure?
i would be happy it it would work!!!
when you look at the specification at htc.com for aria and gratia you will find
gratia
* HSPA/WCDMA: 900/2100 MHz
* GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
and aria (us)
Dual Mode UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA (1900/850MHZ) &
GSM/GPRS/EDGE (Quad band 850/900/1800/1900MHZ);
and i tried at with different carriers (orange, t-mobile, a1) - no change to get even a connection when changing into WCDMA mode...

@Dopsi:
Like it says in the Aria specs you've quoted above: "HSDPA". When I'm roaming in Europe & UAE, etc. I get an "H" and a fast connection if I turn the data on in most cities/countries. In other places sometimes "3G". I don't know what frequency Austria uses for it's networks (Due to be back in Salzburg after x-mas so will try it next month.), but I do know that in the past when I've only had a "G" or "E", it has been if I had the wrong APN settings. e.g. with O2, if you pick the "MMS" or "Wap" APN instead of the o2web, and similar for T-Mobile
thanks
Hi everyone!
First of all, I want to thank you for all of your advices. I have not been around for the last days, so I couldn't reply earlier. I read your answers and they were really helpful to me!
As I mentioned before, I am a total newbie when it comes to Android OS or HTC handsets. The HTC homepage and many other forums say, that the aria won't operate on the European UMTS standard. Is this due to a hardware limitation or might this be fixed by using a different rom (like the one of the gratia)?
If this won't be working, is it possible to use skype on mobile with Edge?
Thanks again, have a great day!

I would also like to know how you got HSDPA to work in europe. I have a AT&T Aria wich I'm trying to get to work with 3G/HSDPA in Sweden. It's unlocked through the same site you used and has the "liberated_aria_R012" rom with the "la_www_update_R002_signed" update. I have tested several different APN settings but I'm still stuck with Edge. I've read that the Aria's hardware doesn't support the 2100/900MHz band but your experiences says otherwise. Please bring some light to this problem
Any updates on that? I really would like to operate the phone in europe using full 3G speed!
Maybe it's possible to reflash the radio image?

The AT&T branded Aria does not support the 900/2100MHz bands for UTMS. Only 850/1900, so you probably won't be able to get 3G. Flashing a new radio will not work because the frequencies are in the hardware, not controlled by software.
*grml* Stupid USA!!! Can't they just use the standard of the rest of the world?
Thanks anyway, maybe Edge is fast enough for my girlfriend's needs.
Do you guys think it is possible that some major cities have installed some antennas for the US standard to make the mobile internet faster for visitors? This would explain the experience of @Dopsi.
Thanks for your replies!

Hello guys,
actually there are two types of HTC Aria:
HTC Gratia (HTC Liberty):
GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, UMTS2100
HTC Aria A6380 (HTC Liberty):
GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS900, UMTS2100
HTC Aria A6366 (HTC Liberty):
GSM850, GSM900, GSM1800, GSM1900, UMTS850, UMTS1900
So you want to use HTC Gratia or Aria A6380 in Europe and I guess AT&T is selling Aria A6366.
Btw, you can find all 3 of them in the Device Database of this site.
I am not sure where you can verify which version you have. If you figure it out please let me know...

Hey may actually have the Aria sold in Asia, which is compatible with euro HSDPA.
CMage,
my Aria from ATT via Amazon shows Model number "HTC Gratia A6380" from Settings>About Phone>Phone Identity. It was shipped in Aug. Thought this was interesting based on the list of available models.

SGS2 ATT usuable in Germany with o2?

Hey Guys,
I am situated in Germany and in my opinion, the ATT Versions of the S2 is the most beautiful one. My carrier ist o2.
Is it possible to buy a S2 ATT via the US Ebay and use the phone without any restrictions in Germany?
I guess I need to root it first, then unlock it and then I am good to go? Are these thins easily and safely to achieve? Is it that simple? What about the network, is the american version compatible with the german network? Can I use hsdpa?
Any other restrictions?
Thank you in advance.
the usual problems with US phones in europe... no 3g, but if your only there short term, it may be worth picking up, otherwise just get the euro version with the correct bands.
also i havent checked but there may be a quad band umts unlocked
AT&T version only has tri-band (850/1900/2100) HSPA+ radio. So if your carrier O2 uses 900 band for 3G service, your phone will only work in 2G mode.
International version of GS2 has quad-band HSPA+ and it works everywhere.
