Worried about bricking again, help - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please be patient and answer my question.
I am using a T-Mobile UK HD2. I previously used used HSPL 2 but it got bricked. I now have got it repaired and want to try again. I'd like to try the first release of the Android HD2 or other custom ROM.
I have concluded that;
1. Run HSPL 3
2. Flash Radio_2.10.50.08_2
3.Flash custom ROM
4. Enjoy?
Is this correct?

You say that you bricked it before... if it was completely bricked it would be beyond repair so I assume you mean you had a bad flash...
The whole android thing is different to flashing a rom......
Im not gonna go into that because I've no idea how to go about getting that up and running....
Just read this 20 times before you flash the rom you want..........
Then read the appropriate Rom thread 20 times.........
Then read that first link again........
Then flash.........

Unrooting and downgrading G2 touch

Hi there, just got a question that i'm hoping somebody can answer for me.
Currently i'm running a Villain 4.0 Custom Rom on my phone. I'm now thinking of selling my Hero and upgrading to the desire.
I don't want to sell the phone in it's current state (i.e rooted with custom Rom), with no disrespect to the devs behind the ROM intended as they have done an excellent job, it does have battery life issues.
My questions are that to go back to its original state i.e a T-mobile G2 Touch is it a simple case of following the unlockrs guide http://theunlockr.com/2009/10/03/how-to-unroot-the-htc-hero/??
If so once reverted back to 1.5 stock will the person buying be able upgrade to 2.1 via the official route once it is released?
one more thing, does reverting to stock 1.5 have any issues? i've heard somewhere that GPS doesn't work if done.
Thanks for your patience in reading this long post and hopefully somebody can answer.
Cheers
install one of these: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=559622
and your phone will be "as first day"
I mean: ROM will be a "retail" one, radio, recovery image and SPL will be changed back to "official one"
ps: I don't think is a good idea to do this: HBOOT will changed and the next phone owner won't be able to install custom recovery, root and, ... since fastboot exploit is not anymore present. you should just install a stable SenseUI ROM that way rooting and other fun things will still be possible
install a stock generic rom, for example from here the HTC Generic 2.73.405.66 unrooted version. flash the latest radio before, this way you can make sure the gps works afterwards. then boot up the rom, check if everything works, go to recovery, wipe all, shut down the phone and put it in the box.
if you install any RUU the buyer has to go through the process of rooting again, wouldn't be nice imho.
and next time please check the subforum you are posting in, this was the wrong one...
Thanks for the replies guys
i think you're right, leaving the phone rooted would be the better option for the new buyer saving him the pain of the dreaded Gold card method.
I'll probably flash one of modacos roms. Now, since i'm only a noob on android and as i've understood from your posts, gps wont work. What do i need to do to get it to work? how do i flash different radios? is it before a rom flash or after?
@kendong2, sorry man i thought i was posting in the right forum, for future note where should i post a thread like this? Cheers.
Yeah, don't go down the process of installing an RUU.
Follow Kendong's instructions to the letter.

Are you really sure HSPL3 is safe?

I really have my doubts about how safe HSPL really is for your HD2.
Sunday my HD2 died. Ive been using HSPL for 2 months now and tried 3 different radios and 3 custom Roms. I always perform task 29 and never interrupted any update. All updates went smooth without problems.
But suddenly my phone stucks in the bootloader. I tried everything to get him back alive without success.
I talked to 2 friends about my problem and you know what? They both had the same problems. They were heavy flashers but they encounter also problems with the bootloader.
So my question is, are they more people with this problem? Im asking because when I buy my second HD2, I want to install custom Roms but Im a little bit afraid to install HSPL. It seems that it makes your HD2 corrupt after a while, just my experience (and 2 friends).
What do you mean wit "after a while"?
I mean with this I have my HTC HD2 device from 01/01/2010 and I have directly flash HSPL 1.66 now almost then mounts later I don't see/have problems with BootLouder and in the meanwhile I have install more than 70 cooked Rom version!
Each cooked Rom I install I reinstall stock Rom before I install cooked Rom so you can say I have seen/used the Bootlouder now fore about +/_140 Times
So personally I don't see a problem.
But of course I don't know how much you have changed your rom?
I changed my Rom 3 times. You have no problems with 1.66. But I flashed HSPL 2.08. Is the different version maybe related to my problems? My friends also used 2.08.

most rom builders recommended HSPL 1.66!
I used Miri Roms and did not see any recommendations
So now I am wondering if the HSPL version can cause a corrupt bootloader...Anyone with the same problems? I really loved my phone and custom Roms but now I am a little bit scary to install HSPL on my new device (when I get one ofcourse)...
im using HSPL3 too...but didnt flash a new rom since then.
i would die if my HD2 would break..... >.<!
In theory any version of HSPL could cause corruption......
I dont know whether one is more likely to cause problems than another.
Lots of people use them without any problems at all and as with anything you do to your phone you do it at the risk of something going wrong....
So to answer your question I wouldnt describe any version of HSPL as "safe".....
The "safest" thing to do would be to stick with the stock ROM and use only official updates, that way even if you have a problem flashing you always have your warranty to fall back on...........

Well I thought I shoul die, but I am still alive. But I really miss my HD2, you cannot imagine. I cannot mail or check internet, its back to 2009 for me
Thanks for your input all of you. I am really surprised how things can go wrong are get corrupted. We all use the same files (HSPL) and the BIOS of the phone is also very standard I assume...Maybe a bad batch when I bought the phone? (Feb 2010).
what i do, is to flash only hspl when i flash my rom..
i'm not very flash addicted, so i got my rom there for months
or why dont you use sspl?

[SOLVED] Stuck at bootloader with SPL 3.03 (Need French Orange HD2 ROM)

Hello,
i just want to ask if maybe one of the admins could contact the developers of HSPL, because there are many who bricked their devices because of SPL 3.03. Or maybe one of the developers themselves will read this. HSPL is the last way out in most cases (or finding somebody with a ORT JTAG Tool).
I know that you better should not update a device without collecting information before it. Indeed!
My last phone was a iPhone, so I know what I´m talking ´bout, but sometimes it just happens that you might have skipped any important information or hint.
So please help :/
You bricked your device? wow!
May be you are just stick on the boot screen where it says SPL 3.03, because you tryed to flash a ROM from the SD card that is not for your operator?
Well, if this is the case just flash an older official ROM for your operator, again from the SD card. Than you can use the actual HSPL and flash a custom ROM. That fixed it for me.

of course i already tried that, does not work.
You are not clear.
Can you get your device to boot loader?
If yes, then you can try Gold card method from there.
yes that still works, but i tried goldcard method today (1 time with the rom which bricked my device und with a custom rom and the original orange rom [my hd2 has a orange branding]) and it was not the solution for my problem :/
edit: oh and if it´s of interest: when trying to flash with goldcard method the rom which bricked it, i get the white screen with "Loading..." in the middle and then it says "Not allow" also on a white screen and "0028002" written in red, then gets back to bootscreen.
well since u can get to ur bootloader consider urself lucky it aint bricked..
Do one thing, get the newest stock rom from htc (same spl 3.03) and make sure its the right one for your device(when you enter your serial no. it should accept and give u a download link).
then try flashing that rom..
It should get you up and running.
After that you can start worrying about getting back to the old spl and/or hardspl
New HSPL
I am stuck with the same thing.
If i could only geat a new HSPL for spl 3.03.0000

Try flashing an older stock Rom one that is covered by hspl via SD card method. Then whenever you like to install that latest 3. 14 Rom do it via usb method.

that´s exactly where my problem is...
my HD2 has a orange branding and is from france. i downloaded a rom from a link somewhere in xda threads, but it´s a really old rom version. the idiots of orange support posted me a link to the touch hd rom^^, so i even don´t know if there is a rom out there.
dunno if it would help posting my serial here...
i tried to decrypt it for finding information about my model, but the only information i can get is the day of production by the first few numbers and letters :/

You might want to look into the download.. if it's an MFG SPL you're stuck with it
Can you provide the link please?
So from what I understand, OlDirty89 failed to read the fine print and is now in possession of an un-usable phone.
I remember when XDA was actually a community where users like this could actually get help when faced with a situation like this...
EX> I was a noob once. My first PPC was a WM5 HTC Wizard/aka/T-Mobile MDA. I actually stumbled across this forum by accident looking for cool new apps for my phone since lets face it.. WM5 is very bland. I saw what I thought was the coolest thing I'd ever seen - a complete OS replacement loaded with new features I'd never seen on a phone before and sure enough, without reading, I downloaded and attempted to flash the ROM. Naturally, it failed and I panicked. I had paid just over $300 for the phone after all.. I came back to this site, opened a new thread titled "PLEASE HELP ME!!" and within an hour, the more seasoned users on this site helped me restore my phone to the factory state and guided me in the right direction, teaching me everything I could have ever wanted to know about WM and how to customize it. I did eventually get that cool custom ROM on my Wizard and became an established member of the community.
^^^^ This is why I absolutely CANNOT STAND flamers... Flaming a user for being less knowledgeable than you is just plain pathetic... Shows what you're like on the other end of the keyboard too... You know it was really funny because I stumbled across a statistic once that stated that 60% of users who join these forums and flame other users are overweight virgins living with their parents... Just thought that was a funny statistic worth mentioning...
Now with all of that being said.. Let's help this guy. He clearly needs it else he wouldn't have posted this thread asking for it. I'm not saying that someone should write a step-by-step tutorial right here in this thread telling him exactly how to undo what he's done, just guide him in the right direction...
This speech really reminds me of a movie I saw not too long ago...

Great post
But I hate to say, unless we can get some powerful brainstorming goin on and figure out how to drop an engineering SPL (MFG) with mtty I don't think we can help..
I started a thread a little while back -- Stuck with SPL 2.02.0000 - Test ROM? that you might wanna read through to understand your situation a little better.
And just fyi, you can play/flash between 2.02 and 2.03 without problems, just DON'T try flashing 2.01 from those two.. left me with a lovely little brick.
(this is only if you flashed the 2.03 from this thread)

IT WORKS! I am also with Orange France and had no issue in reverting back by flashing the latest Orange FR original rom from the SD card.
You can get it here:

Then open with winrar or other archiver and extract the ruu_signed.nbh. Rename it to LEOIMG.nbh, and flash it from the SD card.

I experienced same things after return my phone for screen problem. Orange france gave me a new one and then my problem began. I made all the needed steps to flash a new radio and Artemis ROM and my phone became crazy. Radio failed at 99%, random soft reset etc... By chance there is a new version (1.72) on the website of orange. With HSPL2 i managed to downgrade the SPL to 1.66 version and flash with the last official orange ROM.
Frequently, my phone continue to soft reset itself and became crazy. Can't use it on a whole day, without soft reset 10 times. I decided to return it to Orange (SPL, ROM and Radio where the good ones). Received a new one, immediatly flash my phone with artemis V36 and radio 2.10.50_28 and all is ok with this last phone.
Probably problems come from the phone and not the way you try to revert back...

I can not find any original older ROM to flash with HSPL.
No any chance to install any different rom than my "French language" ROM which is my exact problem I wanna WWE.

Erring on the side of caution

Hi guys,
I recently bought a second hand x10 mini pro from a friend and aside from a few cosmetic issues its running fine. However im now considering rooting the phone and changing the rom to one of the 2.2 ones available.
My dilema as it were is getting it right.... So my plan is as follows:
1.backup contacts etc from phone.
2. Root using one of the methods available from the forums.
3. Again from the forums upgrade/replace the rom on the phone
4. Cry/celebrate as the phone now is bricked/working amazingly well on the new rom.
I guess basically since ive not done something like this since the old xda2s im asking, what should I be wary of and is there anything I should be carefull of during the whole process
Thanks
Jim

One of the main concerns for me is making sure you have the correct baseband for the new ROM. You usually have to flash this using 'flashtool' or similar, the baseband ROMs are fairly easy to get hold of if you google the version numbers. 'Flashtool' can usually root the phone as well as install xrecovery and all the fiddly bits, try as I might I couldn't install xrecovery or get root acess no matter what tool I used on the x10 mini pro. 'Flashtool' on the PC did it all with a couple of mouse clicks.
If your phone doesn't work after flashing (I.e. it gets bricked) and you don't feel confident then SEUS will usually resurrect it - just select the option to reinstall despite having latest software. Its rare that the phone will be completely bricked beyond redemption, although it can happen I might add.
When you've installed a new ROM, I recommend cyanocomb 1.3 (just read all the forum posts first as some people have issues - and nobody likes the same questions being asked every third post!), allow your phone 20 mins to build its cache files before leaping into action and installing things as this can cause problems.
Cyanocomb installs CWM in place of xrecovery. It is a much better recovery program in my opinion. However, make sure you use the right ROMs with the right recovery program.
Its a complicated business. Just read the forums and write down the various steps so you've got something to work from and get all the various tools and roms together you might need before you begin. You will be surprised at the lack of insite shown by some people who dive in and bodge their phones, usually asking elementary questions which have already been answered if they could be bothered to read the forum before starting.
I'm not an expert, but I did read the forums and managed to try every ROM in the 'devs' section without the need to badger the developers about 'boot loops', which are clearly user errors not ROM faults. Remember, the developers are doing smashing work and all they ask is some common sense and courtesy shown by other forum members, not to be plagued by incompetance and ignorance.
By posting here before flashing you've shown some wisdom, so I wish you well and hope others can share their experience with you.

brick wall time i guess. So i have managed to root the phone using as suggested 'flashtool'. phone rooted no problem, xrecovery apparently is installed. however my brick wall so to speak is that despite numerous searches of the x10 forum this evening i cannot for the life of me see how flash the rom on to the phone. im stuck and do not know what to do.

After installing xrecovery you will probably need to install CWM beacause all new ROMs are created to be flashed with CWM and not Xrecovery. If you are on stock Rom this can help you The easiest way to install CWM on Stock Rom for Mini Pro
After you done this, download any custom ROM you want, place it in your SD card, boot into CWM recovery, choose first wipe user data, then choose advanced and wipe Dalvik cash and baterry stats.
After that choose INSTALL CUSTOM ZIP and find that zip on your SD card and flash it. That should be it.
Oh one more thing.... Make backup before you do any of this (just in case).
Many thanks, shall attempt this tonight and post my results accordingly

appears to have caught itself in a boot loop so am restoring my backup of the original rom that was there so at least the phone is working. if at first you dont succeed try try again.
at least now i have an idea of what it is im doing, many thanks for all the advice.

[problem] Dead T-mobile HD2?

I had Magloader and WP7 in it. As time went by I upgraded to HD7 and never looked back. It's been a while since I have touched XDA and WM6.5.
My assumption is that even with Magloader, you only have to flash your stock ROM and it'll revert back to WM.
Mine won't go on and I suspect that I flashed a Non-Tmobile compatible ROM. Can someone confirm that this is the case? Here's the ROM string: RUU_Leo_HTC_WWE_1.43.405.1_Radio_Signed_15.26.50.0 7U_2.04.50_22_2_Ship.exe
I understand completely that if I messed it up then it's messed up. I just wanna make sure there might be other solutions or something I am missing out.
-Thanks in advance!
----------------------------------
Is this a final answer? I need to know if it's bricked and nothing else can be done.
Anyone thinks a shop may be able to recover it back? It won't go on at all..

Sometimes, it´s easier than you think.
You´ve got 2 options to get rid of HSPL. One of those options would be simply described in the original thread of HSPL.exe software. If you would have checked this program a little bit, you would have noticed the very fact that you can select what SPL or HSPL you want to install.
Second, you can flash your stock ROM via SD card method, this will replace HSLP and everything else - this does not work using RUU.exe via USB.

By the looks of the radio installed (2.04.50_22_2), I would say that you did brick your T-mobile phone. Take a look at the following thread for a possible solution to unbrick your phone:

Hi thanks for the response Lavell. Would MTTY be able to do anything?
The phone doesn't turn on at all, or it seems.
I've never bricked one before so Idk if this is the way it happens.
its gone. dead. it will need JTAGging or a new mainboard.
that thread wont help, the phone wont power on, and that thread requires you can get into bootloader.
that's a really early rom you used, the tmous didnt even exist when that rom shipped.
If you want to get rid of it let me know please!!!
Hey guys, don't mean to hijack the thread but I got the same problem here.
Had WP7 but could not use 2g so I went back to MAGLDR113 and installed the file below:

It went all the way to 100% but now the phone is dead. Computer makes a sound when I plug in usb but I have tried changing batteries and all but it doesn't work.
Does anyone know in Dallas or areas around how to do that JTAG thing?
There is no proper documentation on how to go back to stock 6.5 Windows or at least I could not find one

At its most basic, its the same for ALL hd2's, ,
1 get the correct stock rom for your region&vendor
2 flash it
thats it.
Sadly lots of times this is shortened to
1 get stock rom
2 flash it
and people just assume they can use any stock rom, and since they usually already have HSPL installed, it allows the flash to start, and tmous phones die.
Yeh think the HSPL installer should of had a TMOUS version either blocking known bricking radio & ROMs or just an on screen message warrning & advising on checking before comencing with flash.
At end of the day it is the users fault for not researching or using a TMOUS rom to be 100% safer !
