Quick question about flashing Radio Before ROM - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Current ROM: Vodafone 1.72.161.3 (82124) WWE
Current Radio: 2.07.51.22_2
Just got my HD2 today after swapping it for my TP2! very happy so far.
I Wanted to get an EnergyROM on it straight away as it is currently running some Vodafone branded rom.
The thing is my radio version is currently 2.07.51.xx... So from what I understand I need to flash Radio 2.07.50.
But If I flash that radio will it be compatable with the current Vodafone ROM? Or could it cause the phone to not boot?
I have checked the radio thread for compatability info but couldnt make any sense of it.
This all seemed so much simpler on the TP2... can anyone put my mind at ease here?
One other thing I'm worried about is the HSPL.
My current version is 1.66.HSPL
Am I right in thinking I need to use HSPL2 to flash HSPL 2.08?
Sorry for the extra question but I'm still a noob to all this and where the TP2 seemed like an easier first flash... Flashing the HD2 seems much trickier, riskier and with more variables.
Can anyone just clear up the above points for me? The more I read the more confused Im getting

First get HSPL 3 from here
Then flash the latest radio 2.12.50.2 from here
Now flash the latest ROM and there you are...

top man! cheers mate.
im guessing that radio 2.12.50.2 will work for the current ROM AND the latest Energy ROM?
thanks again for your help... much appreciated

2.12 radio is just the latest radio available mate, i stuck with the on in my sig its all bout personal preference and battery life, signal etc with radio's, but yes 2.12 will work, the rom will advise you what radio to use and are compatible, but i can confirm 2.12 will work with energy ROM's there's quite a few guys in his thread using that radio, you just have to test them for a few days see which is best for you, if its no good drop it down to a previous radio and test again, you shouldn't loose data while flashing the radio either, ( i say should not but back up you're mem card just incase)

Ahhh, Cheers bud!
Thats pretty much what I was thinking (Regarding personal preference with Radios)... but then when I read in the EnergyRom thread that the phone would not boot if using a .51 radio, I started doubting myself and started visualising my very first brick lol.
Anyways,
Thanks very much for clearing things up... Im now back to being excited about the flash rather than being s**t scared lol (oddly enough, the term I usually use for 'being scared' is "bricking it") lmao.
Cheers Chaps.
Gonna do the flashes tonights.

If your phone has a 51 radio installed and you flash a tmous based rom, such as energy, then the phone will hang at boot until you enter bootloader and flash a 50 radio. but don't worry, it won't harm it.

ahh I getya. cheers.
Got a little problem now though.
Ive flashed HSPL...no problems.
But now, Im trying to install the new radio using the .exe available at the link provided by nicedude_abad above.
The installer is not in english. Its in Gibberish mixed with chinese characters. Almost like the file is corrupt but I have downloaded the same exe from 3 different links on that page.
Anyone got a link to an english installer for the newest radio?

just get another RUU file and try it that way mate
edit i see its a exe file, erm, i guess because where its from its in his native language, if you have 7zip you can extract the radio file and pack it with a normall ruu,
EDIT just incase you need it still, this isnt the exe, just extract them to the same folder, have phone connected and fire up the RUU follow instructions from the RUU, forgot to upload to my premium account so only 10 downloads

Upgrade from dcd 1.6.8 to 3.1.2?

Please excuse what might be an obvious question, I'm still knee-deep in n00b...
I currently have a Verizon 6800 running dcd 1.6.8 (1.40 radio) and would like to upgrade to 3.1.2. Is the new build stable? Would you recommend this upgrade?
Unfortunately all the guides I have found talk about upgrading from a stock rom. Are there any references for upgrading from a (really) older version? Can any offer any advice on how to upgrade my phone?
Thanks.
yea its great so far......
All i would do is relock your phone flash back to stock then flash with the new sprint rom but do not let custiomations run then put the 2.40 bootloader on cook up a new rom flash and your done. in the short ver. hope this helps you
Why tell him to go back to stock when he doesn't need to? He needs to unlock with 2.40-Olipro, then he can run either the Sprint/HTC update or the Alltel/HTC update, just making sure not to let either customizations run. Then flash dcd's rom on top and you'll be good to go. It's optional, but I recommend that after you flash dcd's rom, flash the 3.39.10 radio as it's a lot better than 3.35.04 (the radio you'll get if you run the Sprint update) or 3.37.20 (the radio you'll get if you run the Alltel update).
no no no, do not go back to stock.....ever. unless you are sending it back, then yea, you should go back to stock, but there are multiple issues that you could run into with going back to stock.
How come there isn't a guide for going from cooked rom to cooked rom? If there is one can someone point me in its direction or provide the steps here?
There are guides... For each of the ROMs it's rather explicit in the Wiki and each of the developer's threads upon what bootloader you need. That's all there is to it.
Thanks gcincotta.... Quick question tho. Should I run the titan relocker before i try to unlock with 2.40?
Also, I have copied down my ESN, MSID, but cannot find my MSN(???) referenced by the wiki. Is there any other information I will need to reauthenticate my phone after the upgrade?
Thanks for the quick help and all the responses...

No, there is no reason to relock the phone. The only reason you relock the phone is if you need to flash and boot stock roms and radios signed by your carrier.
I believe you mean your MDN (Mobile Directory Number) and it is located in EPST under NAM Settings. You should be good.
thx gcincotta... upgrade worked like a charm... much faster and gps is so nice.... great job to all.
wow i feel like a noob but havent flashed from the start in a while. I unlocked and upgraded to an older 6.1 ROM. Now i want to flash the upgraded radio and a newer ROM. Dont i have to re-lock before flashing the official sprint ROM for the radio then flash a kitchenROM?

I'm not sure, but when I did it, I did NOT relock the phone. I did have to unlock using 2.40Olipro, but i did not have to use the titan relocker.

I think I have to second that. I am pretty sure that whenever I have flashed a "stock" signed rom I have not ever had to relock the phone. I only would think about relocking if I was sending it back to verizon for whatever reason.

HD2 ROM dump

is there any tool to dump my HD2 stock ROM?
i don't want to change my ROM since i'm really satisfied with it, i only want to flash a newer radio (2.1 or up) in order to try to run the new android ports.
but i need it dumped in order to revert everything back the way it was if (for any reason) i had to send the phone to repair

you can just hard reset the phone if all goes bad with the android builds, shouldnt though seem to be ok, just glitchy and not very smooth,
as demon said, running android has no effect on the installed rom, you dont 'flash' android, it runs kind of like an app on top of windows, it dopesnt replace anything
yea i know how the android procedure goes, but i was talking about reverting to the old radio/SPL versions...any solutions?
when you wanna revert,
flash your original radio then run hspl2 and choose your original stock spl. that's it.

As said above, all you do is download the stock ROM and flash it , after removing HSPL, you don't need to "Backup" your stock ROM, all you need to do is either download it from one of the ROM threads here or from TMO ....
so...i can downgrade the radio without problems? then run HSPL2 to revert to the original SPL...many thanks!
so what about the ROM itself; even if i find and download it, how can revert to the original date? (settings tab/about phone/software information/ROM date) or what is that date?
another noob question what is TMO?

dont forget the hspl version is excatly the same in 2 and 3, only the installer is different, AND for non tmous users to switch back and forth between hspl and stock spl, we need hspl2 anyway because hspl3 only has stock 2.08.0000 and none of our phones used that as stock.
hspl3 was only released because tmous users couldn't be trusted to not brick themselves, and telstra users couldnt use hspl2.
This is not a 'highest version is best' situation.

[Q] [Need help] Little confused about all this

I purchased an HTC HD2 about 2 months ago and I have seen these phones using the Android and I would like to have the same thing. But heres the issue. I've been reading(XDA), reading and reading and there are so many options that I dont know what the correct one would be. I would like to find a good one without bricking the phone.
So this is a fairly new HD2. Can someone assist me??
All depends on what you will sir;
But try this build, it's very nice and stable.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859817
PS; don't forget Android needs minimum Radio 2.08.50
Ok. Now will I have to do this HSPL thing?? Would I have to change anything?? I would like to run Android but with the option of going back to WM if I need too.
My phone is stock with factory settings. Can I get a step-by-step guide??
First, i think you should flash latest official rom, with radio 2.15.50.
Then, flash Cotulla's HSPL, find the right one for your device.
(Optional) Task 29 to erase your official rom.
Download and flash custom rom!

1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6891358&postcount=1893 Cotulla's HSPL3

Clean task29 <----- Follow the instructions, but do it before flashing a custom rom, because when you do task29, your phone has no OS until you flash another rom. So it'll be useless til' you flash a rom. When the bar is in approx. 96%, keep holding volume down key til' you get to the rainbow (bootloader) screen. Then, flash a custom rom.
3. My favorite custom rom of all time: Energy Rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
Then, you're done
Sorry, but WTH are you on about?
If he's got a suitable radio then he doesn't need HSPL.
OP - please ignore the above advice and just jump straight to running Android off your SD card.

So what Android build would you suggest??
Sorry, but with custom roms it's better to run android, and since he said he didn't want to brick his phone, and when you talk about bricking you're talking about hspl and roms,i gave him instructions on flashing hspl and a custom rom without him bricking his leo.
Although, he is right, if the only thing you want to do is run android, you just need to download a build, put it on your sd card, run clrcad.exe and then haret. But I suggest you flash a custom rom before Android, as it will enhance your experience.
Wish you success!
Happy New Year

Btw, I suggest darkstone's ram sense Android build. It's got great battery life and great performance. Plus, if you mess with system files, you just reboot and the changes are gone.
Trust me, you'll love that build.
PS: Before,i used android with the stock 3.14 rom, it all worked fine, but when I flashed energy rom, it was even better!
Again, happy new year.

[RADIO] HTC Eternity Radios

Here are the two available radios posted by other users. The radio "17.5006.08.27" has been reported to have issues with the US AT&T Titan so be warned.
You Flash at your own risk!! If your phone explodes and kills your entire family, that's on you.

Once I find out how to extract them myself I'll post the others.
May I also add here that 17.5006.08.27 radio in general *may have* problems with Titan?
Once that was flashed, I am unable to get rid of that radio and thus, no other ROM boots on my phone any longer. Not even the one with radio 17 or stock!

This is strange, why just now this is happening considering we been using this radio version for a while since hspl became available with titan. Could it be that you got a bad flash from one of the radio v 17 that came with custom rom you flashed? Just on the weekend I flashed roms with radio v17 (WPV rom7.8 4.1) then tried nhatoa's 7.8 with radio v16 and now I'm back with WPV's v4.2 with radio17.
I think I might have had a bad flash with radio 17 then. I am not sure how to revert it though.

Yes, I was suggested that too earlier. I'm a little skeptical with goldcard as I've never taken that route.
I'm more curious in terms of what could have cause a bad flash where a radio cannot be changed at all?

I'm sure you'll share your findings if ever you find out what've cause this issue with your phone and save us this trouble of "bricking" our phone. As to the goldcard method , you're rigght to be skeptical, initially it's a hit and miss but once you got the Y cable and micro sd card going it is really quite straightforward process. I have an ATT titan so the only way to flash custom from stock is by GC method and been doing this quite regularly (being a flashaholic)

Hi Do you perhaps know if this upgrade will come to us in South Africa as we also have AT&T HTC Titans (2x)? Zune says that no updates are available.
Otherwise can the experts please enable this upgrade via the CAB sender method?
Thanks in advance

Can anyone reupload radios for Titan? Links are dead.
