What's most important in a ROM? - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

No right answer, looking for your opinions.
What do you prioritize?
Speed? Stability? Battery life? Theme? Maybe something entirely different? I'm curious.

Stability all the way man, u can overclock for speed, condition the battery by properly wiping battery stats. Plus u can always create or install a theme to ur liking. Stability has to be built by the dev.

Stability and useability all the way. Next down comes battery and theme.

I only have experience with one ROM (Aloysius 2.0.1 v12), but it is significantly better than when I was not rooted. I am impressed.

i thought it wasnt a problem cause i asked in terms of battery life..
Too many variables determine how much usage you're going to get out of a charge to be able to definitively say "rom/kernel X" will give you the best battery life.
That's why these threads are frowned upon (essentially a waste of time; you won't have the exact same experience with a given rom/kernel as me).
Only way to get great battery life is to read/learn/tweak/read some more/tweak/etc/etc. All the info you need is on this site, you just have to do a bit of digging to find it.
for me stock roms always have best battery life..
yeah asking a question like whats the best rom is stupid but he asked a concrete question, whats the best rom in terms of BATTERY LIFE. i think its legit but im not a mod to decide. still, it hasnt been removed so i think im right. im also curious btw. thats right u can tweak a lot and improve batt life but there are definetly better roms for battery life, there are some with good performance, others have great features etc.

Haven't you read two posts above you? I think that's why it's not right to ask these kind of questions. And why answering on a question from at least two months ago..?

Better battery

im trying to get the best battery i can possibly get. How could i go about doing so. I dont care if i have to try different kernals or what ever just need help
While the ICS and Jellybean roms have come a long way in terms of battery life, they still don't come close to Froyo. You'll probably need to start there for the absolute best battery life.
Do you want a Rom with good Battery life or a App that can help you with Battery life..?

What do you care most?

What do you care most when you choose a ROM. Please don't turn this thread into a which-ROM-is-best kind of thread.
If there are other factors that influence your choice, please reply and let me know.
For me i choose user interface and features, why? Cause we got too much stock-based ROMs that have stock theme. I would rather flash a stock ROM rather than a stock based ROM that doesn't have any difference in ui. I mean look at xperianze ROM. Many people are commenting its the best ROM cause of its special and unique interface. And anyways why do we need custom ROMs (no theming) with only tweaks? This phone is running quad core exynos processor not a single core armv6 or something.
Edit: Please add in battery life as it matters the mpst
Battery, stability and some nice smooth performance... Not too much cherry and stuff like that I think.

Well for you I think you should flash an aosp rom since you prefer speed than interface

I'm a theme freak too, that's why I love ROMs that have CM theme engine implemented. CM theme engine is unbeatable and there are so many amazing themes on Play Store for us to choose.

Then I think you should go back to ICS then. Cause its more stable, responsive and battery friendly than on jelly bean.

By performance I mean smoothness. I used to over clock my phone to gain more speed but all the Transition animations and page scrolling became so laggy.

O I see. Then just use crossbreeder or turn off the animations from developer settings. Oh and the crossbreeder tweak did help remove some lags in the games i played on cm-based roms

I'm happy if the battery lasts more than one day
I'm on stock at the moment and I can get two days from what I would call "normal" usage. Oh and playing games with a PS3 controller is a must!

UNDERclocking for BEST battery

Hello, im on Temasek ROM with Temasek kernel, which can be customizable by stweaks.
I have searched but really didnt find an exact answer. Im looking for the values, profiles, that are best for battery life, yet dont want to lose much performance
Thanks for your time.

Try it urself. You can decide what's good... But if you underclock ya phone, u have to know that ya phone isn't so smooth and stable anymore!

you just contradicted yourself. You said that it does nothing for the battery life, while it clearly increases it. The actual effect depends on the underclock and your usage
What about undervolting? Does it save more battery than uc ?

Very very minimal savings. But it can reduce the temperature/heat.
