You really should encode it down to "Phone Size"
All mine run around 400 to 600 meg for full movies at phone quality, there are a lot of .mp4 converters floating around the forum ....
That file size is just too big for the phone .. only has 576meg of ram after all ... would be hard playing a file that big on a PC with only that much ram ....

You can play 3 gig files with coreplayer?? Great... but Coreplayer is commercial, rather re-encode than pay for it ...

I have this same issue. It's not a RAM issue as someone stated probably since the entirety of the video is not loaded into RAM when you play, it is streamed into RAM from disk.
I was thinking perhaps a FAT32 issue but the max file size is 4GB for FAT32. Any other takers on why this happens? You can only transcode down a LOTR Extended movie down so much before you lose quality overall.

Video files - xda

when i want to copy video files over to my xda i do so using active sync and wen i go to open it the file comes up as a file that cant b read by any program, what do i have to do in order for it to play video?
Hi,
which player do you use? Video Files (.mpg or .mpeg) are best played by Pocket TV, available at www.pocketTV.com, .avi files by wmp
Regards
Ron
thanks for replying i try .mpeg video and have windows media that came with it, i have seen pocket tv advertised if i were to get it wot one would i use?
I have been toying around with this video-watching for some time now and in the end the problem is always the size of the files. It is simply impossible to fit a whole movie in mpeg or divx on a storage-card, even if you ha a 512MB one. So what i´ve been doing lately is to convert movies into wmv format with the windows media encoder, which is free downloadable on the microsoft website. You can set the framerate down to 15 fps and the streaming rate to 150 kbps and the movie will still run relatively smooth. And the resolution must of course be set to 320X240. With that you will have files with a size of about 1 MB/minute of film. Of course it takes some time to convert the file, but with 2.8MHz not longer then a little over half an hour per movie.
i can get a 320x240 2 hour film in divx format into 185mb :|
running at 30fps at 250kbs
so i dont see what everyones probs with vids are?
@ gazzaman

You mentioned re-encoding the file. Can you please explain how you do that?

[Qeustion] Movies on HD2?

Hello there Community,
I have been reading alot of these forums and on the web.
Atm using Energy 26june 23569 with 2.10.50.28_2 (best for me).
Now i want to convert some VOB (Dvd) movies/files to the best suitable extention to play fullscreen on the HD2 (i can for example make .wmv with moviemaker).
The problem is, when i convert a file of 100MB to MP4 642*480 i CAN watch them fullscreen in the default CAMvidplayer (dunno how its named), without any problem .. but when i code a vid to 1.5gb mp4, it hangs on video, and only plays sound.
Hope someone can help me with this and give me a few good instructions/links to do so.
Dont know if this topic is in the right forum though, sorry if it isnt.
Thanks!

Thread moved to Q&A.
Please post there if you have a question in the future.
Mark.
Ahh sorry, stupid of me i didnt even see the Q&A
there is a program called mp4hd mate it was made for the original HD but there is an extra file with it to add settings for hd2 give that a try its here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=478050
I always split fulllenght movies into 2 parts, cause file above 1.5g
tend to have hiccups every 5-10min (5sec freeze).
But i never have a full picture freeze.
What bitrate are you using?
What codec are you using?
I use h264 codec around 1600kb.
Get your hands on a program called Coreplayer.
And as for converting, try to convert to 800 by 480 as that is the devices resolution. Anything below will become choppy, above isn't bad but it may cause stuttering during playback.

Same qeustion here
Wish it can be fullscreen
I've sucessfully converted several videos and full length movies to mp4 to play on my hd2 using VLC, I noticed though it's important to make sure to select a maximum resolution of 720p. Still looks good on the screen, plays full screen and no stutters or freezes. Hope that helps.
I use "Any video Converter", for all my devices, here are a few reasons why I like it...
It's really easy to trim off the beginning and the ending of videos in the apps built in player to make the videos shorter and smaller.
Remember's my custom settings
Choose my Frame Rate, Video Bitrate, Video Framerate.
Many settings with the audio choices.
Can Place multiple files to convert one after the other.
It's free and they keep updating it regularly.
Video Conversion
I used "Format Factory" to convert some AVIs for the HD2. Not only do they play now they play in HTC's video player just like Transformers. Different settings and a few different resolutions and they all seem to play just fine...
"Format Factory" is free and a small download.

How does the GS2 handle video files larger than 2gigs?

Hey guys,I've been reading a lot about how well the GS2 plays movies/videos,but I haven't found an answer to this. Can it play files larger than 2gigs?My Desire HD plays 720p mp4's flawlessly(almost) unless the file size is more than 2 gigs.In that case it won't even open thw file.
Any answer appreciated as 9/10 of the movies I have are high quality 720p and 1080p matroska files to play on my PS3,not some 700kbps ****-quality 500megs file.
Thanks!
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
It can play anything up to 4GB, but the file system wont allow you to transfer a file larger than 4GB. If you have some 8GB mkv files you will need to split them somehow.
It's not the file size that's important, although FAT32 has a limit of 4gb for a single file you can split a file up. It's the bitrate that's important, and so far the Galaxy s2 has played everything I've thrown at it, including very high bitrate 1080p files. It's perfect for video playback.
You can use MKV toolnix to split MKV files. It'll only take a few minutes since all it does is demux, split and remux the file. Since you're using MKV files i'm assuming you're tech savvy enough to navigate the GUI. It's pretty simple.
I won't quote because my multi-quote doesn't feel like working the last few days.
So,thank you all guys for your answers.
@jgittins
I know there is the fat32 limitation, wouldn't be around if I didn't! Splitting the videos is easy, reencoding is a pain in the ass(3-7 hours on my PC ).
@RXP
Bitrate, withing some sane limits at least, wasn't a problem for the DHD either.I encode a high profile 720p video clip from Avenged Sevenfold(I'm a big fan ) which lasts some 4 minutes and it plays heavenly.I use exactly the same settings for a movie(That turns out about 3.5 gigs) and it won't play.I use lower quality(not only bitrate) so that it turns out to be just less than 2 gigs(by chance at that time) and it plays really good.I then, out of curiosity, split the 3.5 gigs file to two equal sized files and it plays super smooth too!So the problem is a 2 gig limit on the DHD.As long as there is no such thing on SGS2 I'm extra fine,as the DHD will need reencoding nontheless,it can't play mkv's.
@Sticks02
Geek is my middle name pal!
Thanks,I'll try that and see how it goes.Even if I can't use it at first I'll eventually do it(I learn really easily ).
