Hello,
Thanks to the XDA dev team, I am currently enjoying root on my Japanese SO01b flashed with the global R2BA023 firmware x10a.
However, I miss some functions of the stock SO01b firmware, like for instance the Japanese Play Now which is different in Japan. Also recently Sony released an app which checks the model name, and since mine is now x10a, it fails.
Hence my request: is it possible to get root on my SO01b on the R1EA025 firmware? I do not care about R2, as for me the disadvantages outweight the benefits.
Thanks in advance!
You can change the model name in /system/*.prop files.
simply pull it with adb, edit on your PC the model names and then push it back!
after reboot your name will have changed.
but be careful only edit the names nothing more

Thanks a lot, Bin4ry!
I will give it a try on Saturday.
Another minor inconvenience of having a mix of x10a and x10i on my device is that now I cannot turn my phone off anymore. It gets stuck at the last popup "Turning off system" and reboots. I guess I can live with it until the official R2 update for x10a, though!
Lastly, does anyone have a copy of the Japanese Play Now "application"?
Thanks again for your hard work and help! Highly appreciated!
You should really start from beginning and use the files i provided in the thread, because there IS a release of orioginal R2 X10a files
I think you are on a really old root version
So start over with the new files and then after you done everything change the modelname like i wrote above

Yes, as Bin4ry has stated there are file in the main ROOT folder(sticky) that solves the issue. Bin4ry, thanks for the instruction. I will wait for your next release.
Thank you,

Next release will come with new firmware or when we achieve the BootLoader customization (all of us are working on BL now thanks to goroh for the great step forward )
If one of this happens i will make a new root package (all in one). For yet we are too busy to put all together (and too lazy sometimes too )

Hi,

I want to upgrade firmware and bring to latest stable one.
Can someone please guide me the best option available.
Thanks in advance, will appreciate guidance in this
You haven't given any information as to what the problem is, so it is doubtful anyone can help you.
That being said, there are *many* threads giving step by step guides, so search and read first!

What do you mean by "bombed"? I guess you mean the upgrade didn't work somehow, but give us a clue so we can help.

How do you expect people to help you out when you dont give any more information.
I'm no expert by any means, but I could point you in the right direction if I know what the problem is
-> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=572683
this will turn it back to original Hero, and you can upgrade it later with any original HTC ROM. you will not have to wait for T-mobile to customize their own, branded ROM
edit: but for now you are still on 1.5 Android. you could use some kind of search (google?), we are all waiting for v2.1
I got hold of my hero just 5 days before i posted this message. And then down with viral thanks for pointing out the thread. "Dac0908" But are you saying after "GoldCard" i will still be at firmware 1.5 or will more to 2.0 ?
for "bryanchapman9999" no offense but i gave all firmware and system information i could get and provided usual update not working with updating software name. So not sure what other information is required i am on T mobile 1.5 version itself is hint that customized software not allowing updates.

You need to describe *exactly* what occurs when you try to apply the RUU including all messages/dialogs that are displayed.
Posting all your version numbers and then saying that the update is "not working" or "bombed" is about as useful as a chocolate teapot because it tells us precisely *nothing* about the issue that you may be having.

Dave

It is failing the CID check - you will need to create a gold card in order to bypass the CID check before you can proceed, or find another 2.73 ROM that had the appropriate CID (probably something like 2.73.111.6)

Hi ,
Will This porcess update my firmware to 2.0 ? and how stable is 2.1 if it is available i can see in few threads ?
Just want to make sure before i take leap of faith
The process will allow you to flash any of the available ROMs, but be advised that none of the 2.x ROMs are based on an official release and most have some issues that may mean it isn't really suitable for day to day use (YMMV!).

Dave

all things work with the new methods, I am rogers as well, and love the rooted xxxx23 rom
the updated rooting instructions on the main post are just fine. all u need to know before u start is that u should have SEUS installed, im sure u have becuase u've updated ur phone to --20. so to get it to --23 all u have to do is download the packets and follow the instructions closely and it shouldnt lead u astray . u should end up with a 23 firmware + working headphone jack + a phone that says its an x10A.
Love de tuts easy to follow

Headphone problem
Hi, I have the x10a rooted with R2B0023. I installed the market fix and now my music is always routed to the external speaker, never to my headphones.
Anybody has a solution?
Clarification ...
Hi Team / Board Members.
1st of all, thanks to all the developers / forum members for getting thru this rooting business and procedures.
2nd:
I read the procedures over & over again, and will attempt to "root" my rogers x10a phone tonight after work.
Just a few questions / clear-up required:
(1) I have updated my Rogers X10A thru SEUS to the following:
Model Number: X10A
Firmware Version: 1.6
Baseband Version: 1.1.25
Kernel Version: 2.6.29-rel / [email protected] #2
Build Number: R2BA020
(2) The main root topic, found with the title of [GUIDE] Root your X10 R2BA023 ! { Update 06.07.2010 Nicer Instructions }, it's updated, all the *.cmd step #1,#2,#3,#4,#5 is updated to reflect any problems?
(3) After going thru all the steps, my phone will have the R2BA023 build, with X20a model name & baseband will be updated as well to 1.1.26 /1.1.27 or so?
(4) Can this "rooting" procedure be completed on 64-bit Windows 7 Laptop system, I know I have to dedicate the same usb port for the entire rooting procedure?
(5) I typed the MMS/GPRS settings manually on a WORD DOC, and after ***sucessfully*** rooting, I just have to re-create the profile right?

I just went through the rooting procedure on my X10a (formerly running the 016 Rogers ROM). Everything went well.
As for your question regarding the procedure on a 64bit Windows system: just follow the guide here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=713457) for getting Java 32-bit running on your system before you try the root. It works, and will prevent a lot of problems.
Otherwise, it's all pretty much correct.
Hey, thanks for the reply.
Just a few more questions that I have to ask:
(1) regarding the headphone jack, I am hearing mixed emotion regarding it doesn't work vs. it works after sucessfull rooting ....
what's the story with that and relation to the X20a that I have, not X10i?
(2) under the troubleshooting, problems, feedback on the rooting procedure, people are stating there is a problem with the accelerometer ? Is that true?
Since you have sucessfully rooted, did you experience any problems whats ever?

hi bin4ry and Jerpelea, I am also one of the hk guys that may upgrade to r2ba024. However, in the majority point of view, I also would like to have ur kindly dev work in bootloader and custom firmware. Sorry to all other guys
that would like to have the root of a024, but i think that the performance increase of the new rom(may be 2.2) would be much more significan.

I think so
The great and final step is when arrive the first custom rom
as much as many of us would love to have the 024 rooted.
but then right at this moment we should let our devs have their time full force on the bootloader and custom rom.
and seriously i would really love to thank them for their dedicated work , if not ,
i would have given up on the x10 already.
thanks for the roots and hopefully good news will come knocking on the door soon =)

There is no official ICS firmware for our devices, SE never even gave us a frozen yogurt, so the only way to get ICS on your phone is either MiniCM9 or this one, which is based on ICS sources.
Oh, I thought that you was searching a kernel for android 4.0.4 . The thread i gave include's a link to a kernel that support android 4.0.4 (CM9).

Nope, sorry, the SK17i runs on a newer SoC than ours, and they're not compatible.
You would have to recompile it all from source, which is what the provided links have already done for us , they are really the only options for our phones.

Start thinking of your phone as a computer... It will make things easier.
Root access (which is easy to come by on Windows, but usually needs a password on linux) allows you to tinker with your system-files.
And there is a tutorial around here somewhere, where the poster has gone through the trouble of making screenshots for every step needed, so maybe you could search for that.
Hello dear community!
Since multiupload servers are dead, and there's no other better place to ask: Do somebody have the x10a 2.1 Generic firmware? My phone cannot be unlocked so it's impossible for me to use the cutomized 2.1 roms that can be found here. To me, this rom seemed to be better than 2.3.3 in terms of speed and stability so I want to downgrade with Flashtool
