Can change all quicklink icons except Facebook icon. - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've only been poking around in this amazing device for two days now, and thanks to these forums and the amazing mods submitted by the developers, I have been able to change all of the icons except one. Even though the Facebook icon is updated under the start menu, I cannot for the life of me get it to change in quicklinks. My reading of the forms has led me to the registry, and yes the startup icon points to the right path. I've noticed (and this may be the crux of the problem) that every time I reboot, sense creates a new start icon_htc_facebook png and qtc file in the Windows folder. My question is, is there any way to get the new Facebook icon to appear in quick links or am I stuck with the default Facebook icon? Again thanks to the developers for all the cool stuff and advice which is been posted on this website. PS I'm looking forward to a fully working version of android for this device. Keep up the good work guys.

[Q] Modification of Widget (create widget/app)

Hi,
First time poster here, but long time viewer of this forum.
So I got a HTC Wildfire for a few months now and I still like it very much. But I never really wanted to get into programming my own apps because I don't know any programming, I only know graphical stuff. But when I saw the Google App Inventor, this got me a little bit more curious of what I can do myself. So now I got a widget of "Battery Watcher" used it since I got my Wildfire, but now the programmer changed the layout of the widget and I really don't like it (I liked the old one better). So with some searching on how to replace the icons in an APK and signing it again I managed to get the old icon back, but I got 2 problems now.
Problem 1) The widget itself isn't a full 1x1 square anymore, it’s like it took the widget icon and made it 25% shorter in the 1x1 square. (so I think its probably something to do with the layout.xml) but here I don't really find any useful information on how to open and edit that file.
Problem 2) When the phone is charging the battery icon in the widget doesn't stay in its place, it gets placed on top of the widget next to it, and when I unplug my phone everything is back ok. (so this is also with the layout.xml I think)
So does any modder out here know how I can edit the xml file, and what line to adjust? I have the SDK for Android and Eclipse on my PC. I use the stock rom from HTC, I got a Windows 7 x64.
I already mailed the maker of the widget, but haven't heard back from him/her.

[Q] Sense QuickLinks temp thumbnail location

Hey guys, sorry to ask something so simple, but I changed my icons, and since I have already created quicklinks in my homepage, Sense displays the old icons from the thumbnails it creates upon first time setting the quicklinks.
I know these thumbnails are somewhere to be deleted, so that the new icons will display, but for the life of me I can't find 'em or remember where the heck they are.
Tried searching, but every keyword is giving me a hundred results, all related to stuff I don't need. Anybody know offhand where they are?
Thanks and sorry for my horrible memory
Found it. Sorry for unnecessary post
Since there were like 35 views and no response, if anybody wonders,

[Q] framework-res.apk & dianxinos-res.apk

Hey there everyone, I am wanting to edit my framework to get a better looking notification bar. I have an android phone called SH7218U, I am rooted with all Gapps.
If you look this up phone on Google, you will see that the notification bar and icons are very similar to stock Android 2.2 ( I am running 2.2.1). The only difference is that the signal bar is located to the left of the bar as well as some icons getting set there as well. You can really see this here: http://www.itechnews.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/03/Sharp-SH7218U-Clamshell-Android-Phone.jpg
When going into root explorer and checking out system/framework I am see the familiar framework-res.apk file, but I also see an apk file called dianxinos-res.apk. It seesm to be able to mess with framework and change the UI and other things, both of these files need to be edited. This is just a guess though since I have been able to find a post on a Chinese forum that gives a new notification bar (the only difference being the battery icon replaced with a numerical battery representation and the (when bar is pulled down) shortcut to the useless built-in task killer is gone. Inside of the package to this new framework I get both framework and dianxinos files so it seems I would have to replace both of the old files with the new ones.
As you can see in the above image there are virtual android buttons on the bottom of the screen as well, for when you want to use the phone normally. I do not think that the dianxinos-res.apk is linked to the virtual buttons as exploring system/media/pics contain.bmp images of the virtual buttons and I have confirmation by another SH7218U user that editing these images will directly effect how they are displayed.
I was just wondering anyone know how to edit the framework when there are two files corresponding to this. I don't know much about editing the framework but even so I am quick to learn but figured I would just ask around before I do anything. Worst comes to worst, like a bootloop for instance, I have a system.img for my phone so flashing that with fastboot will get my phone working again.
Anyway, Ive uploaded both files in case anyone would like to look at them. I am trying to go for a gingerbread-esque notification bar with blue instead of green possibly.
If anyone thinks this thread would get better hits elsewhere I would appreciate any input.

[Q] Trying to change contact shortcuts

Hey everyone. I'm trying to make contacts look the way they do in some 3.5 and, from what I hear, older Sense builds. As an example, when creating a shortcut to a contact and let's say, making it a 'quick contact', there is no icon covering their face (like in AOSP, CM7 or SoaB), which I prefer. I'm trying to see if there's a way to get that effect in other Sense Roms where the shortcut type covers a quarter of the icon. I've tried pulling the contact app out of the system folder, and deleting the quick contact icon, also the black button png, but still no dice. So I'm hoping someone with some knowledge can point me in the right direction here. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

First impressions and questions

Hi,
I have played with Themer and widgets last few hours, and it looks very nice. I have looked through the introduction videos, and they were informative, but there is always some information missing, and here is what I could not find:
How to lock widgets without right click?
When we unlock the widgets for editing, we need to lock them back. Every tutorial that I looked does this using right click on screen, but what if there is no place on screen available to right click (widget occupies to whole screen)?. I guess we could add one screen temporarily, lock the widgets, and remove the "dummy" screen, but I guess there should be some quicker method?
How to dock particular widget to appear on all screens?
I would like one widget to appear on all screens, something like a Dock on the stock Android. How to mark widget as docked (locked) on all screens?
How to preview a custom (exported) theme?
In the video tutorials it is said to put an image with the same name to thumbs folder (I noticed that it must be png also, not jpeg). However, this only shows the screenshot in the thumbnail preview of exported themes. What about when we select a particular theme, which opens a screen with Delete Apply choices? This preview is still blank screen, which means that it does not use the image from the thumbs. The same behavior is seen in the video tutorials.
How to know if there is an empty widget on screen?
For example, lets say that I have dropped a widget on the screen accidentally, and I did not place any element in it. This widget would be transparent by default. How can I see those widgets, so I can remove them?
Thanks.

Hi Goran,
So sorry for taking an incredibly long time to reply, I'm on a semi-vacation in Thailand at the moment and getting access to internet isn't easy. I'll try help as best I can.
1. Thanks for pointing this one out! The option to do this via the app drawer was removed in the last update, so I'll speak to the team about adding it in again. The only other way would be to enable the Themer notification bar, which has a Themer icon that brings up new themes. From here you can tap the back button to go into the Advanced Settings and then into Desktop.
2. This feature has been requested before, however it will take us a while to add it into Themer, as the resources required are quite vast to say the least. Hopefully in the new year we will have more time to focus on features like this. Right now the team is more focused on fixing bugs and improving the performance.
3. Another requested feature. We still want to improve the front end as much as possible before moving onto the back end. Trust me though we haven't forgotten about the designer side of Themer.
4. I've never heard of this feature before, but it sounds like a good one to have. I think because many users focus on adding widgets that instantly show information, it hasn't been as a priority. I'll speak to the team and see what they think.
I hope this has answered your questions. If you have any more just ask, I have a stable connection now and will be able to reply within the day.
- Marco
