Hi there, first of all im a noob and ive been only using this phone for a week or so. I am wondering, is there a function to set a message alert (SMS ringtone) specifically to certain contacts? Its frustrating to use global message alert for all the contacts. It would be nice if I can know who is messaging me by assigning them a specific ringtone. Please advice

Just wonder if anyone could tell me how to individualise the ringtones for different callers? Most mobile phones can do it now allowing the user to put a particular ringtone for a particular call number coming in and I suppose a complicated pda phone like the xda can do the same or am I wrong?

Does anybody know how I could set up a filter on my sms inbox so that messages go to different folders? For example I recieve SMS alerts when I get a new email and I would like these alerts to go into a separate folder. Is this even possible?
I imagine that quite a few people could make use of such a filter and it may even become commonplace with the volume of junk messages now bombarding our phones!!

how do you set custom rings or sounds on the hero for txt i tried ringo lite and created a folder called ringtones but in riingo my songs did not populate into the app
You need to go into your messaging app & set the ringtone from there
But you can't set different songs for different people which is really annoying, as it's such a basic function nowadays.

You can if you use Handcent SMS
I have the Motorola Photon 4G, and the one thing I miss about my LG Rumor 2 (Yes, very old) is the ability to set a custom vibration for SMS, MMS, Calls, Email, and other various things. I also miss being able to give contacts certain ringtones. Like for my GF it would play a melody and when my Mom or Dad called it would play a siren. Is there app or mod that can do this for me? I would still like to use the stock dialer and contact manager though.

You should be able to set a ringtone for each contact in the Contacts manager. That will apply for the calls from each person.
This app will allow you to set a tone for incoming text messages and the "Plus" version of that app will work for text and MMS.

For ringtones, make a new file in your sd card called ringtones, put the ringtones inside and set it from your settings>sound
For vibrations, I'm not sure.
This will only work for ringtones, not message tones, Unfortunately.
Are there any other apps out there people would like to recommend?
,ake a folder in sd card with the name ringtones and put all ur custom rings in there .den u can hav em and about vibration i guess there is no such way....there are sum apps available which just sets the vibration times...

I have a unique ringtone for some of my contacts, in this case my wife.
I installed whatsapp and really like it EXCEPT that I cannot figure out how to get a text type notification...instead, I get her ringtone whenever she texts me using whatsapp.
This is or should be an easy fix, but I cannot figure it out. When in the app and I call up the menu - contact, I see her normal contact, with her information, including ringtone. So if I change it, then her ringtone will change when she calls me...
is there a workaround so that I have a unique ringtone for phone calls and texts using whatsapp?
