So I am switching Aria's, first time doing this with an Android phone. So I basically want to know what is the easiest way to transfer data and apps? I tried using Astro to transfer just apps, from a Droid X to my old Aria but that didnt seem to work. I'm receiving a new Aria very soon and wanted to transfer my data/apps from my old Aria. Oh yea, can I save my rom image as well and transfer? I'm running attn1's liberated rom, not that latest version but not sure if version matters. Thanks.

I believe you can use titanium backup (free from market) to backup the app apk's to the sd card. Then transfer the sd card to your new aria. Re download titanium backup and restore apps to new phone. As long as you don't change save locations it should work pretty easily.

This. I just did it for a friend on his MyTouch and it worked flawlessly Only thing that could be an issue (Not sure, I may have missed it, but I don't think you mentioned if you were rooted) is that Titanium Backup is root only as far as I know.
I can confirm, and yes I was rooted on the old Aria and just rooted the new one, that Nandroid backup/restore worked for apps, data, and rom.
So this is my next question. If I now want to try a new rom. I dont think a complete backup/restore of everything is what I want to do. So what is the best way to just save data/apps, wipe device, install new rom, restore data/apps.
If you can suggest me an app, can you also please post steps as I tried titanium and astro file manager and wasnt sure what to do. This may also help others that arent experienced. Thanks again.

Again for this I'm going to suggest Titanium because that's what I used to switch from the Liberated Aria ROM to the Clean Eclair ROM.
1. Open Titanium Backup (Make sure your MicroSD is not in Disk mode if plugged in)
2. Tap Backup/Restore
3. Hit Menu > Batch
4. Select whatever action you need.
I believe the 4th option is "Backup all user apps and data"
Should you complete this backup and time passes between the backup and the flash and you want to backup the changes, a little farther down you can select "Backup all new apps and versions" or the "Redo your old backups" (older than 3 days if I recall correctly). System data I believe doesn't have one of these "new" options, but there is an option to back it up independently of your apps.
When you boot up into the new ROM, simply follow the steps again, but this time scroll down to the blue "Run" options, and select the "Restore all missing apps + system data".
That's pretty much the gist of it

I restored all my apps and data, but I noticed some things were not restored correctly. Like my swype for one. My email accounts dont seem to have correct sync settings, if any at all. I think I might have to delete/add email accounts again to get them to sync correctly.

I have just recently downloaded Titanium Backup in order to save my apps because I want to try new ROMs that say to do full wipes including EXT wipes. I was just curious what the proper way to use the program to restore apps was. Also, if Titanium Backup saves to your sd card and you do an EXT wipe, won't that delete all of your saved data? How does it restore? I hope this question isnt on the forum somewhere, I tried searching and couldnt quite find the answer i was looking for.

Okay so first Titanium backup will back up your system settings and your applications and does a fine job at it too! When you wipe your Ext2/3/4 partition all your doing is cleaning off any data held in it. This does not effect your fat 32 partition which is where all your stuff is (pictures, albums, films, ringtones etc) I haven't deleted my fat32 partition ever as this never needs touching really. Apps2sd runs from your Ext partiton so wiping will kill all your apps but this is where Titanium comes in and as it saves to the fat32 partition you have no worries wiping. Also suggest backing up on a PC, I do once a week and saved me a few headaches
Open Titanium and hit menu, then batch. This will bring up a list of options to 'Run' backup or restore. I would strongly suggest also to donate $3.99 for the paid version with the hyper shell.

so i have about 30 ringtones set to specific contacts, if i wipe/flash a new rom.
restore using titanium backup. Will all those ringtones be set back to the proper contacts automatically with TTB? cuz its a pain in the *** setting them each new rom

I'm having problems with Titanium Backup. I made backup of a lot of apps before flashing some new stuff to my Galaxy S, but now when I try to restore them it just gets stuck. At first there's that little window saying restoring, but that disappears and it seems like everything is fine. However, when I try to restore next app it just says that a process is already running and it stays that way until I kill it via Autokiller. The app gets installed so that's fine, but the problem is that I would really like to just run a batch-operation and not have to kill the Titanium-process for every app i have back-up of...
Any solutions good people of XDA?

I installed Titanium backup on my Galaxy S Captivate yesterday, did a batch backup of "all user apps + System Data" in the list it showed the bloatware ATT apps which I wanted to uninstall but with the option of reinstalling them if I ever needed to bring the phone back to ATT.
I did a test uninstall of one of the market apps and then did a restore and it worked fine. Then I tried to un installed one of the ATT apps, which worked but when I tried to restore it by clicking on the crossed out app at the bottom of the list, there is no option to restore it, just delete.
Did I do something wrong with the backup or am I not restoring it properly? my test worked fine so I thought I had it figured out but obviously I am doing something wrong.

If I use the Master Clear or whatever is called to restore my phone to stock...that is supposed to delete the internal SD Card so, if I were to copy the Titanium Back Up folder to my PC then copy it back to the SD card after the clearing is done...would that be enough to restore all the games and apps?

My news app/widget not working on MY HTC DHD even after several reboot/restart. So I decided to back up the apps and widget trough titanium backup and uninstall the app+widget. After reinstalling the apps/widget. the news app is working again but the widget, I cant find it in widget menus when I tried to add it to home screen.

My SD card was fried last night... everything gone. Good thing I backed up everything onto my laptop last week. Got a new SD card and copied everything over from the laptop. When I go into TB app, it doesnt show what I copied over. SHows I have no apps in memory... I made sure to copy everything into the "Titanium Backup" folder in my SD card. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

This happened to me as well. Go into the "more" option thru Titanium and select the Market Doctor. This should link your apps back up with the Market. Also, sometimes simply installing an app thru the Market and/or a reboot will get my installed apps to show up properly.

Hope that worked, but just in case, there's another way. Once in Titanium, click backup/restore, and then scroll to your desired app. Long press the app and then click the option to "attach to market (forced)."
Market Doctor - Amazon Market
I installed a new ROM and restored my apps with TiBu. I was having some syncing problems in the Android Market so I ran Market Doctor. The problem is that I did not know to de-select the Amazon sourced apps so 47 of them got linked to the Android Market. I have since manually de-linked (long press) each of those apps solving most of the problem but they still show up in the Market list but under the 'Not Installed' section at the bottom. Is there a way to permanently break the link? I am concerned about having to deal with it in the future. Maybe re-run Market Doctor following the proper de-select process?
I'm running streakdroid 1.9 but I would like to do some experimentation with my streak. If I flash a new rom what will I lose? How do you backup your data so you can flash to your hearts content?

if u flash stock roms, they do a factory reset during first start up.
So u end up loosing everything.
However if u flash .zip version of the stock roms using CWM or streak recovery , u will retain almost everything but may loose somethings like root and so on.
Remember stock roms will flash its default recovery everytime it boots up

If you do a nandroid backup, when you restore it, everything will be just as it was before you flashed another ROM...
As far as using Titanium... it has never worked for me completely, nor has MyBackUp Pro, they cause me more headache than being useful...
I have gotten to the point to when I flash a new ROM, I just manually install everything, I know it sounds like some hassle, but you end up with a much smoother operating phone.
I even do a nandroid backup first, then go into my ROM and manually uninstall everything, so that when I boot up my new ROM and setup my market account, it doesn't try to install everything on its own and bog down my phone at first, I install everything manually in the order I want and set them up as I go.
I know this sounds cumbersome, but I have found it creates a cleaner environment and practically eliminated force closes
That is the way I like to do things also but what about the things that you can't just re-install e.g. sms, application specific data?

I was having a sim card and constant restart issue after updating to streakroid 2.4.4, and even after flashing dsc, the problem persisted. After I reviewed the steps I had taken I realized that I never did a factory resest (fearing I would forever lose my precious app data, which I did -_-). It turned out that was the fix, after doing the factory reset, my sim card was recognized immediately and a couple of the text I had missed showed up. However, I fixed one fixed problem and developed another.
Even though I restored a MyBackup and Titanium backup I did right before resetting I recovered my several apps without their precious data (setting, notes, bookmarks). I tried doing internal backups within the apps, some conveniently had syncs to a cloud yet I missed doing that with a few apps because I have over 100+ and I use more than half on a regular basis (even if for 5 minutes). All my apps are on my device, which is a good thing but I cant appreciate that given the missing data.
So my advice is:
Use apps that have can automatically backup or sync data -- there are enough apps with similiar utility that you can avoid ones without that function.
Do a manual backup within your important apps. -- Some apps backup files to locations that may be wiped during update, doesn't have auto backup or the last backup is months old.
Pics, texts, call logs are easily backed up -- Backup programs will explicitly state or ask what to back up in that regard.
Do a nandroid backup -- I believe this only restores rom and apps but someone can correct me.
Caveat
Through all the research done before actually need to restore a backup I missed the fact when restore apps depending on the restore program every app has to be reinstalled individually. If you have more than 25 apps then #$#@!, also for some reason when restoring with titanium if during a batch restore you come across an app if you hit cancel during one of the install prompts because you actually don't want to restore that app the batch will freeze and you'll have to force close titanium and start the restore all over. Go through the list of restore options and choose each app one by one, save yourself the time.
Lastly, to piggy back off what was said before, a factory reset( FR) after updating rom is always recommended but its not always needed. Most roms will update without causing you to lose any data but like I said previously I had sim card issues when I updated without a FR. YMMV
At this point I don't know if this helps the OP but maybe it will benefit someone else who reads this thread.

Key items:
Use the backup function of any apps that have it
Don't count on restoring data with TB or My Backup
Make a nandroid - just in case
I have found TB and My Backup to be useful for things like browser bookmarks.
The post linked to discussed going from Froyo to Gingerbread but the same techniques apply for moving to any other ROM.
Last time i changed roms, i used the Dell backup utility for evertyhing but the apps, which can be backed up together with their data with QtADB which creates a backup folder on your SD. After installing the new rom, i chose advanced recovery from the Dell Utility and set it to recover everything but the apps, which i recovered with QtADB. However, I also strongly recommend nandroid, in case the steak doesn't boot after the install.

The key for me is to
Use Nandroid (the backup feature in recovery) for a full image backup. Use Titanium to backup individual applications.
Before restoring nandroid backups, be sure to wipe cache and Dalvik (under advanced in recovery).
Nandroid takes nearly the entire phone back to the point of backup (houses everything you have on your phone's internal memory). Titanium allows backups to be restored on different roms. Some apps and many system apps don't play nicely with Titanium, but most from the market do play nicely with it.
Installing new kernels doesn't require wiping your data. Installing new/updated roms does. Installing themes usually does not, but there are exceptions.

Per your input I updated to Rom Manager PRO and then simply selected "Backup Current ROM". I assume that this covers everything on the phone including radio/kernel/apps....

Yes, CWM is how you want to backup your phone entirely. I would recommend going into recovery and making a backup on your own instead of hitting the "backup my current rom" button in rom manager. The backup you make will be saved in a folder on your SD card named clockworkmod/backup. I always think its a good idea to move your backups to your computer and keep your two or three most recent backups on your sdcard.
As for backing up your apps, you can do a batch backup in titanium and when you load a new rom you will be able restore the app and any data associated with it. As a general rule I would only backup apps that require a lot of setup. Otherwise when you load a new ROM the apps you had previously installed will automatically restore (depending on the ROM). Just a tip, dont backup system apps. Doing so and switching versions, for example froyo to gingerbread, could cause many issues down the road even if they aren't immediately seen.
Lastly, when installing a new ROM you always want to wipe data/factory reset at least twice and wipe cache and dalvik cache twice each as well. If you have any issues dont hesitate to ask there are many people who are willing to help.
Go to ROM Manager, scroll down and select Backup Current ROM.
I use two apps for backing up and restoring installed apps; Titanium Pro and MyBackup Pro. For some reason MBP successfully restores the apps + data that fail using TP. For example, apps installed from the Amazon android market.
I create full backups with both TP and MBP, but when I need to restore ( after a complete data wipe and new Rom flash) I do the following:
1) skip setting up my Google account during the initial setup process that starts after user data has been wiped.
2) Uncheck the box that allows backups to Google's servers
3) After setup is finished, go into settings, privacy and deselect the automated backup options
( If I don't do the previous two steps, then Google starts pushing apps that may have been backed up and/ or apps that I have purchased. I don't want this to happen since I am going to do my own restore with data.)
4) I use TP to restore MBP only
5) I then use MBP to restore the rest of my user apps and data.
Some may disagree with my two backup app process, but it has been more successful for me than using either TP or MBP by themselves.
If something doesn't go right with MBP, I still have the full TP backup to pull from.
I do not bother backing up systems apps just because it seems to cause me too many issues when i attempt the restore. This means i have to redo any system settings, but that isn't a big deal to me.
Some of my favorite apps have backup features of their own. Folder Organizer and Circle Launcher are two of my all time favorites. Both restore nicely when i move to a new Rom.
Occasionally, i copy the TP, MBP, and Clockwork folders from my sdcard to a folder on my laptop just in case.
The above may sound like alot, but it goes pretty quick for me and I flash quite a bit ( at least once or twice a week when the device is new and the Rom cookers are really active).
Another thought, I have used MBP to successfully restore my android home screen settings for sense ( part of MBP's data bu ). My preferred launcher is LauncherPro, which has its own backup and restore function.
Finally, i always do a nandroid backup before wiping and flashing to a new Rom. I also always do the backup right from clockwork mod recovery. I love the Rom Manager app and paid for the premium version quite a while ago, but i prefer to backup, wipe and flash from the recovery screen. Even if i download something that needs to be flashed using Rom Manager, I still reboot into recovery to perform the needed steps.
Hope this helps and if someone has another app backup/ restore routine they use successfully i would love to know the steps. I am open to learning something new.

Because you are not rooted go this route. You do not require root.
1. Use the Helium app and copy the folder it creates onto your computer, it's called "CARBON." This will copy all apps and app data.
2. Use HTC Backup from the app store and backup everything onto dropbox. This will also backup your apps + data. It will be on a cloud storage so no need to push anything to anywhere.
3. Go into your SMS and hit the menu button. Backup all user text messaging. Copy to computer.
now you can report everything to anything.
After you are on your new ROM.
1. Run HTC Backup (comes with rom) and restore everything.
2. Use Helium to restore any missing apps.
3. Restore SMS.
Done.

Yes, you can flash a clean Rom then restore your data file from a previous backup. the only problem with that is that whatever problems you may have had before, may be present still. Otherwise, it doesn't hurt anything. In fact, both CWM and TWRP allow advanced restore where you can select portions of your back up to restore..one a time. In my opinion, it allows you to see, if a backup fails to restore, where exactly it is having trouble, be it in system, boot, data..etc. I literally just did this, restoring a data backup onto a clean Rom, and so far no issues. I understand what you mean by not wanting to set everything back up. System settings, widgets and app placements. You had the perfect setup and it took you forever to get it that way. Titanium backup and Rom Toolbox don't always restore these things like they claim to do.
Edit: I am finding the hard way with this phone, that unlike my old LG Mytouch, when you flash a firmware upgrade, non OTA push I mean, it doesn't stick to system. It's saved to data. So if you flash a data file from a backup with an older version, your back to that version. With my old phone, we could swap Roms after an update all day, and the baseband and firmware updates would stick every time.

I'm trying to restore my previous Titanium Backup configuration on my Note 8, on which I just clean-installed the latest DevBase ROM. Normally, I just backup the following folder in order to save Titanium Backup's configuration for later restore, then after the ROM is installed, I restore the folder, install Titanium Backup and everything is restored:
sdcard\data\com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup\settings\
However, for some reason, the latest version doesn't seem to be restoring from the backup. Any suggestions on what to do to fix it? Really need this my configurations to quickly restore my Note 8 back to normal. Thanks in advance.
Haha can't believe I'm not the only one. Was already buzzing authors but for now no reply. Up until now that always worked. But now since yesterdays flash it doesn't any more. I've been trying to make it work since then without any success. Is your ROM PIE based?
What's even worse for me, i also tried cleaning everything and fresh install TiBu without any settings. I've made a new label, attached an app or two to that label. Then I selected in preferences I want to sync settings, TiBu created /sdcard/data/com.kermidas.TitaniumBackup with corresponding files. After I uninstall and reinstall TiBu first nice surprise is that it force closes. It will not work until I delete /data/data/com.kermidas.TitaniumBackup, after that program starts but it never restores it's settings from /sdcard/data/com.kermidas.TitaniumBackup
I've tried few PIE roms and never managed to find a working sollution. Thinking of going back to Oreo just to test this out then to scream at TiBu makers if it suddenly decided to crap on us. Oh I've also tried old tibu versions. even cracked ones, since I do posses original bought key for TiBu.

Yeah, experienced EXACTLY the same issues. I figured out a solution to the problem though; on first install of Titanium Backup, DO NOT OPEN IT YET, instead, MANUALLY grant it its app permissions via Settings > Apps > Titanium Backup, place your settings folder in the com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup folder like normal, then launch Titanium Backup. Here's a detailed step by step process:
1. Ensure you still have a proper backup of the Titanium Backup settings folder, then uninstall Titanium Backup AND Titanium Backup Pro Key (if you also purchased it)
2. Install a root file system app (like Total Commander) from the Play Store, launch it, and navigate to and delete the following folders:
/sdcard/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
+
/data/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
AND (if you also purchased it)
/data/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackupProThis will ensure you start off like it's your first time installing the app, and will avoid any crashes due to whatever conflicts.
3. Restore your backed-up Titanium Backup settings folder to the following directory:
/sdcard/data/com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup
4. Re-install Titanium Backup (and Titanium Backup Pro key, if you purchased it). DO NOT OPEN IT YET!! Otherwise, you'll have to repeat steps 1. to 3. above
5. Navigate to Settings > Apps > Titanium Backup and manually enable its app Permissions (at least Storage, but I'd recommend enabling ALL of them like I did)
6. Vuala, now you can launch Titanium Backup, grant it SU permission, and it'll recognize the backup like it should
