There is now a paid version of LauncherPro:
http://launcherpro.com/
I have installed it but when I hit the "Home" button I don't get the option to switch to LauncherPro. I didn't have a previous version installed so I thought it would pick it up (I had tried a previous version and deleted it). What do I need to do to get the option to switch to it??
EDIT: Fixed using method in the next post.
From the home screen
Menu -> settings -> applications -> manage applications
From Manage Applications
menu -> filter > All
Scroll to either
LauncherPro or twlauncher which ever is yoru default home screen and select "Clear Defaults" Then press the Home button and you should give you the option of which home screen to use.
That did it.
I had gone to the Applications Manager but didn't select "All" to see the default launcher. Thanks for the help!
home switcher...i use home switcher to switch launchers on the fly free and useful
how do you like it? what's different about it other than that it has new widgets? i use adw and i preferred adw over it because it's way more customizable...just wondering if the new launcherpro plus is customizable.
I haven't used a bunch of different launchers but LauncherPro seems to be very customizable. I have changed all of the default icons and it looks really slick.
As soon as I get the drivers installed on my computer (which might end up being the subject of a whole other thread... grrr!) I will post some screenshots.

+1 I gave up on the drivers and just used Shootme. You need to be rooted, but that takes literally one minute so it's no big deal.
Nah I got the driver thing sorted out. Here is the screenshot (I shrunk it down a little and changed it to a .jpg to save some bandwidth). Don't judge the artistic value of the setup. I just plugged it up and took a screenshot to show what I did with the launcher in a few minutes of playing around.
The background is animated (those little images are flying slowly toward you like a star field kind of deal). I played around with the icons at the bottom just to see if I could change them from the default LauncherPro icons and that's as far as I got today. I don't know what's possible with other launchers but I like this one just fine.

My girlfriend has the X10 mini and when she removes an app from the phone, the icon is removed from the app drawer as expected but it leaves a space where the icon used to be which is never reused whn a new app is installed
she has several of these gaps now, has anybody else had this problem or know how to fix it or refresh the list maybe?

You should get a launcher like ADW. It has a much better drawer. There's no comparison between it and Sony's one.
The x10 mini's launcher tray is different from the trays of other launchers that just list the apps in alphabetical order - you can reorder them yourself - press the menu button, then select "Arrange icons" and you can drag the icons into a new order (so you can drag other apps to fill your spaces, or organise the apps by type, etc)

I think LauncherPro only works on Android version 2 and up.
Yeh i found the gaps that were left behind a bit annoying... but i also found scrolling through each page at a time and remembering where each app was annoying as well as i started to rack up quite a few pages and the app drawer always loads at the page u were last on.
But now i use helix launcher which puts it all in alphabetical order which i did found annoying at first as i wasnt used to it but getting familiar with what apps u have and what they're called as well as being able to see more apps on the screen and scrolling down to the bottom with 1 swipe makes it a winner!
If your gf doesnt regularly download lots of apps and uninstall them i'd suggest to just rearrange/shift the apps into the gaps for her or get her to herself.
Okay, I now have 2.2 thanks to one dedicated employee in the mobile phone area at Best Buy.
We downloaded the official 2.2 for AT&T, renamed it, put it on the SD card and ran the recovery so it overwrote 1.6. Which turns out is exactly what some of the threads here described, I just didn't want to do it myself and risk losing the phone.
Love having Flash and I'm sure I'll find other stuff I like, but I have to admit that I detest the main screen and how it works.
Can anybody suggest a good alternative?
How do I at least lose the "Social" page?
Edit: sorry about not marking as a question. I posted then remembered.
do you mean dell stage if so just get home switcher for froyo and try adw launcher, launcher pro, go launcher, launcher 7 they can all be found in the market then customize and pick the one you like best i use adw and launcher pro

I installed Launcher Pro and love it. Very customizable . Give it a try. Theres a free version in the Android App catalog
I believe that the 'social page' is a stage widget. Press and hold and then drag it to the trashcan that appears.
As others have said there are alternative launchers. I like LauncherPro and another is ADW Launcher. Go Launcher is becoming popular.
One of the best things I like about a replacement launcher (at least some of them) is that you can make better use of the screen size on the Streak, I have my icon grid set to 6x6. The agenda widget in the screenshot below is a 4x4 widget that would fill the entire home screen on a smaller phone.

That's Android Agenda Widget (paid version) BTW.
Edit: Once you are sure that you aren't going to use Stage delete all of the widgets from the screens there. You can DL home switcher for froyo to easily switch between home apps. Here is some info on setting default apps if you don't want to use a home switcher.

I can't seem to find a good screenshot of it (and the only person I know with a tablet's sleeping, so I'll post one tomorrow if I get the chance), but in Honeycomb and the tablet version of ICS, when you scroll on your current home screen to another screen you can see light-blue glowy outlines for the icons on the screen you're scrolling to.
Is it possible to replicate that effect in ICS for a phone? Would that have to be something done at the homescreen level, or something deeper? The Android tablets always had my attention with this effect.
Thankies! =]
Apex launcher, free in market, lets you have that animation. It is like ICS stock launcher with a lot more options. Choose trasition effect as tablet from Apex home screen settings.
I know exactly what you are talking about. I suggest you maybe contact the APEX launcher guys (Android Does) and see if that is even possible. I like it too and think it would be cool on the phone level.
Wow, you guys replied quickly... Thank you both. =D

It sort of does; it has the outline of the homescreen that moves around, which looks kinda' cool. However, it's still missing the part where the icons and widgets get that same outline treatment and then as they move in, slowly become visible.

Will do; I just wish Apex Launcher would let me move my homescreens around when I'm in the preview mode. xD It's the one thing I preferred Nova Launcher for, but Apex has improved lots since when I first used it (when it first came out).
Landscape mode?

Who here uses go launcher? I'm new to android so please bear with me. I was looking at themes and stuff and saw go launcher mentioned. I also saw it mentioned as a means for using scrollable wallpapers. So I downloaded it, opened it, and basically had no idea how to use my phone once i did. all my stock icons and everything were gone and there were 'download' bars everywhere. i realized when hitting the home button i could switch back to the default launcher and thats where i'm at now.
So before diving into messing with go launcher, is it worth it? Does it work well once properly set up? if so, got any tips or is there a site explaining how to use it and everything? I couldn't even find the applications button.

Go Launcher is the best Launcher ever... Just need to play around..
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using Tapatalk
Ok, so I was messing around with it a bit this morning and I'm figuring it out. One thing I can't get still is scrolling wallpaper. When I went to set it, it asked me if I wanted scrolling (and yes i've got a 1600x1280 image that I'm using), but it doesn't scroll. Is there something else that I might be missing?
Also, I installed their go task manager on one of my screens. It seems I have about 30 apps running. Is this normal? Was it like this on the stock launcher, or with this launcher do I have to constantly be sure to kill everything?
How's your battery? I never have that many apps running at once ..
I just started using GO launcher too, but it's very similar to adw ex which is what I've always used. These launchers are very easy to set up. Long-press on the screen to add your icons and widgets and so forth. Everything can also be resized, like long-pressing over a widget to get it resized properly to our larger screens. Just press the menu button and go through the preferences and see how you want to set it up to your liking. Also, go to themes and you can change everything such as icons and wallpapers in one step. Mine is currently on the ICS theme which comes preinstalled on the launcher.
I don't really use task killers so I'm not quite sure if the number of apps running is normal for you or not. From what I understand the android OS automatically deals with managing apps in the background and you should never really need to use a task killer.
I would recommend googling GO launcher guide for more in-depth reading if you're confused at all
Here are some screens showing what I think are the open apps. I'm not sure if theres a difference between open apps and apps running in the background. I didn't want to take a screen of each app as i scrolled through but you get the idea.
In ics theme using go launcher, folders on home screen.
Clicking on folder to open, it opens on top side of the phone,
How can I change pening of foldee to bottom side of phone by the location of folder.
Like in adw ex launcher.

Go Launcher, atleast the version Im running (beta) the task manager widget shows apps running in the background as well as apps you have loaded. There are two different styles of widget you can choose for the task manager. The minimal version just shows a gauge / no apps and used / free memory. I think the one you are using is the 4x2 widget that shows app icons...

Hi, since 12.12.13 there is a new update of google search in playstore.
If i install this update, the google experience launcher changes the grid size (now i have less icons) and some widgets disappear or are resized.
Is there a possibility to change the grid size of the experience launcher desktop with a hack?
I would also like to know what has happened to the grid, as now I cannot have my homescreen as it used to be.
I wonder if this is anything to do with the new 'tablet mode' in the launcher. (install on an N7, then turn horizontally)
Funny, that the launcher is not officially supported on tablets!
For the time being, I have just reverted to GSearch 3.1.8. (or whatever it is!)
I am a developer, but I cannot find any reference to grid size in either the Launcher or Search APKs.
If you know, please reply

There are there modes phone, phabet and tablet. With Android 4.4, tablet mode is not available anymore. To switch between different modes use this tool
I think that it does not depend on the tablet oder phone mode. Other user have the same problem on different devices. (home button not in the middle, widgets deleted and and ...)
Hate to post in an older thread, but this is one of the first results when you start looking for ways to adjust the grid size.
GravityBox[KK] can change the grid size on the GEL launcher, but it's not perfect.

Thanks for this. I was looking for a way to get the grid size larger on my Note 3. The resize ability for widgets is great too. I got it working using the Kit Kat version of Gravity Box, despite the fact that the dev says it may not work on Touchwiz ROMs.
