HTC Droid Eris--Rooting and More... - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I posted my questions in a different part of the forum and I was redirected to this subforum! I read the "FAQ" or whatever that was stickyed here and I didn't see many answers to the questions I had, so...
How do I root my Droid Eris? Can I put Android 2.2 on my Droid Eris? If so, how can I backup my contacts/text messages? Anything else I should know?
Thanks guys!

info
go here for rooting..."h t t p://forum(dot)xda-developers(dot)com/showthread(dot)php?t=661413" forum for eris master application
after you root your phone you can download and flash any rom available for the eris. currently i think there is 2 froyo roms out. they are "h t t p://forum(dot)xda-developers(dot)com/showthread(dot)php?t=685594"KaosFroyo by kaos and "h t t p://forum(dot)xda-developers(dot)com/showthread(dot)php?t=723263" CELB Froyo by conap.
for your backups, google syncs your contacts for you. there are programs like "sms backup & restore" & "titanium backup" that you can download from the market and back your stuff up.
sorry but im restricted on posting links. hope this helps. and if anything just use the search and search the forums for "eris master application"

hi some advice for a new owner

hi guys i am now a proud owner or a HTC hero on orange uk
the questions i have are this
im on the latest update from HTC them self for the orange network should i change this to a generic firmware, if so what one do you all recommend ?
why is my market place so empty i cant find alot of apps as in the the 1clickroot app ect ?
what is the best way of enabling root account on this mobile?
thanks in advance guys and gals
As far as I know, the only other option you have for a different ROM is the MoDaCo custom ROM. This is because HTC asks for your phone serial number before letting your download one of the official ROMs (as you probably found yourself on their website), and they know which phones were shipped to Orange or not. You'll find MoDaCo's ROM in a sticky in the Android Development section of the Hero forums.
It's possible this 'one click root' application has been removed from the market, as I think that officially they don't like people getting root access. The easiest way to get root though is to install the custom rom mentioned above. Just make sure you read through the various posts so you know what the problems with the latest release might be.

Not strictly true - MoDaCo has repacked "vanilla" HTC and carrier updates, in update.zip format, so you can apply them without going through the RUU process.
However, this does rely on having a Hero that hasn't already been patched to the new HBOOT and kernel that prevent such updates being applied.

Dave

I don't think the market is empty as such, I find the search is not that good e.g. searching '1clickroot' and '1 click root' will return different results.
As for rooting, look in the android dev section there are guides, I have seen one had videos in it which was more helpful.

Search the general and devolopment forums for an answer to your questions. Be wary of what you remove.

[Q] About Apps2sd, pls help

hi guys i'm just gonna ask you all, if its possible to install apps2sd without doing the partion? coz i already rooted, and installed the xrecovery on my phone, is there any possible way not to format my sdcard coz if not, i'm totally regretting not doing this first,
Note: i have problems installing apps and games on my phone coz it always says that no free space to view or install it and i red that apps2sd is the solutions...
that's why i want to learn about apps2sd..
tnx in advance guys...
i saw some apps2sd applications on the net does this work or do i have to do the long way
dude
the title of your thread starts with [Q]
obviously you didn't read forum rules
but even if thats the case you actually checked the available options for you to post your question in mini pro forums, completely ignored the Q&A thread, and decided to post your question, [Q], in the development thread????
thats rude dude...
and for your question
you actually searched the forums, turned the earth around, and did NOT find out that in custom froyo (2.2) and gingerbread (2.3) roms you have native app2sd, without additional scripts or formatting of the sd?
there must be dozens of threads around here explaining just that
the search button actually works you know...
i thought the rules meant courtesy to all,im sure he never meant it to be rude,,i do a lot of reading here and am surprised at the way people speak to one another on these forums,,
answer to question is yes it would solve your memory probs and there are apps in market for apps2sd,, also you could save files from memory card to pc and restore after you have formatted it
cheers norrie
also were presuming your on froyo or gingerbread roms or are you using stock rom
the rules do mean courtesy to all
also the rules state that you should read the rules before posting
it's actually the first post everyone sees in any xda forum
the reason why it is difficult to find a thread is because the rules are not followed
and subsequently because it is difficult, no one bothers to search and asks questions in any thread he sees fit, spamming the forums and making the situation worse
and this is looping over and over again
so
the post before was not meant to offend anyone
i wanted to show his options, and encourage him to search, through common sense despite the fact he was unaware of the forum rules and do it in a caustic manner
i'm sure that even though he does not yet understand the reason i answered him like that, if he hangs around the forums for a couple of weeks he will get the point.
sorry for spamming
@dave481985
sorry for that bro, and i don't mean to be rude if that's what you think, but i'm not, actually i'm just a newbie, sorry by the way
@norrie2204
i'm only on stock rom dude, it's 2.1.1 i think, so the only way is to format my sdcard? ok, i'll just start all over again hehehe, tnx
again didnt want to offend you
i gave a proper answer to your problem (i think) in the correct thread you posted
dont hesitate to ask anything else
@xeos14
I prefer link2sd that let you choose what to move to sd (while with app2sd everythinh is installed on sd)
You can check here, anyway link2sd is a normal application that you can download from market.
You need to create an ext2 primary partition, you can use a tool called 'MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition' that will let you resize your sd card without loosing data

If you have gtalk voice and video post here!

I'm aware that there are root methods of getting this on your phone, but there are a lot of people who do not desire to root. If you have any version of a stock rom that has voice and video chat in google talk please specify which version you are running on.
My dad has it and he is on 2.3.3 baseband version xxkg1 and kernel version xwkg1
This confused me as I thought it came with 2.3.4, meanwhile I am on 2.3.5 and I don't have it.
Gtalk Video/Chat
Why didnt you just do a google search for this app. U will find a xda thread that has the apk available for download.
Google is your friend..
spot the noob??
original android development? close thread please mods..
Maybe it needs to be moved then... I'm not sure why people here are so rude sometimes. I figured that it should go here because people are always asking this question when intratech releases a new official firmware. So I put it here, that way people see it.
And I did google it... I found root only methods of course since it is a system file. This is for people who DO NOT want to root. Not sure how that message wasn't conveyed.

Second link.
I rest my case, and close this thread.

[Q] Can I download and use roms straight from rom manager without any problems.

Hi guys, this is my first time posting and I'm excited to be part of the "family".
I wanted to know if I can use Roms straight from Rom manager without it causing me any problems, are certain Roms only for certain phones or does it not matter.
Also, when I want to switch between Roms, how do I go about that.
Sorry in advance if there is already a forum that discusses this, please put up a link if there is.
THANKS.

The best thing is to go to the "Android Development" forum of the Atrix 4G and there you will find hundreds of different roms. The best thing is to unlock your bootloader and then flash a recovery, cmw(rom manager) is just one option.
Once you find the rom you want, download and put it in your sd card, enter the recovery menu and flash it from there.
There is a post with the instructions of those methods
Thanks a lot I will go check it out.
