Is there anyway to change the picture that is displayed for each contact?
One particular example is a friend who has a google account, facebook, and twitter account Linked.
The Google account and the Facebook account both have profile pictures, yet it uses the default Twitter picture. How do I pick which one is used?

This is dev section...post this in general
Long press on the picture, it should have an option to use that picture. That's how it is in stock Android, at least.
click on the contact, menu->mark as default and thatll let you choose which picture/ acct you want to be primary as well as primary numbers and emails.

It would be pretty great if someone developed an app or something so you can have all your facebook contacts seperate from your personal contacts,
or if it was an option under the contacts menu
Just a thought...
You do not need an app for this. The phone already does this. Just sync your facebook and then under contacts you go in to the options and select "get friends" choose facebook and select all those you want to transfer to your contacts list. You then can put them in their own group or join them with their phone number and google account.
so this will not interfere with my personal contact list at all?
i DO NOT want facebook and personal contacts together.
You will have to sync your FB contacts, tell your phone to not show them in the contacts via Contats>Menu>Display Options.
Then when you want to only look at your Facebook contacts, from the Contacts app, click group, scroll down to "All Facebook Contacts."
It doesn't really accomplish anything, other than making you look in two places for information.
You also could use a Facebook Live Folder on your Home Screen if you want.
I have mine set so my contacts store their Gmail and Facebook on their contact profile. I can then just go to contacts and pick a person. Then I can click on updates in the right corner and it displays Facebook posts from my contacts. Its pretty nice.
Not really sure where this topic should go but I was wondering if there was a way to manually input my contact's number and still have their facebook profile pic show up as the picture in my contacts app?
I tried syncing my FB account to my contacts which kinda worked. but most of my friends don't put their cellphone numbers there and I end up with lots of empty contacts with just a link to their FB (but with the always changing profile pic and status updates)... It would have been nice if I could sync FB to contacts first and then add their phone numbers after but it says that I can't edit FB info on my device.
I tried doing it on Gmail but the synced FB accounts wouldnt show up in my gmail contacts. Is there a way to do create a contact on the phone and link it to an FB account? Adding someone's facebook profile URL just creates a hyperlink in my contacts which will be launched by the browser... I just want their profile pic (birthdays, emails, etc would be a bonus)
I decided to ask here if there was an easier option before I go and look for pictures of everyone I know and manually adding each to the contact app on my phone.
I have all my contacts with phone numbers stored as Google/Gmail contacts.
I also have a FB account set up on the phone.
To join the two in Contacts:
1) in Contacts -> Menu button -> Display Options -> check All Contacts under FB account and relevant group under Google account (in my case "System Group: My Contacts")
2) go back to (overpopulated) contacts list, and one by one, select Google contacts (long press) -> edit contact -> Menu button -> Join -> select FB contact for same person
3) when done, repeat 1) except uncheck All Contacts under FB account
4) ???
5) Profit! (ie. editable contacts with FB info attached)
Should work the same with PC Sync contacts methinks

Follow these steps. For the first time it would be tough doing for all your contacts. But once done, you need not worry about it again.
1. The reason for separate phone-number contacts and facebook contacts is because of the name mismatch. So rename all your contacts with the exact name as their facebook profile.
2. Now you'll have phone-number contacts and facebook contacts, with same names. Now join the contacts one by one.
3. Make sure you're creating all the contacts under your Google account.
4. Next time when you flash a rom or do something, turning ON google sync and facebook sync would automatically bring up the contacts joined.
5. The only problem will be when your friend changes his/her profile name in facebook, in which case you've to rename your phone-number contacts to the new name. But this doesn't happen always.
The process is so complex because the system assumes that the facebook profile name and the phone number contact's name would always be the same, which may not be the case in most of the scenarios. Because I would prefer to store my girl friend's name as Sweetie (or something similar) instead of her full name. But if you want to see some data integrity in the contacts list, then no other choice, renaming the contacts names as per the facebook profile name is the way to go.
better option. join all contacts one by one. no need to rename. Remember to take backup once done and upload that backup .csv to gmail. next time u wont see dup/mismatch etc.

Thank you guys ^_^ I'm joining and/or erasing contacts one by one... Hope this works.
I'm hoping that their profile pic will change on my phone when it changes on FB but I still get to choose what name comes out in my contacts.
The only downside is having to create a new contact on my phone for those people who are on my FB list first, since I can't add numbers to them right away.
EDIT: Ok new quirk that I don't know how to fix... How about if the phone number on FB is outdated? I can't erase it alone without having the entire FB profile go with it. I can add the new number to the FB profile though. Will setting the new number as default make the old number disappear from the options (SMS, Call)?

Suppose you have a contact "aa" (gmail or phone) and the facebook profile of that contact is "bb"
Select the "aa" contact, select edit- join - select bb" done. This will merge the contacts, even though they have different names.

Setting one number as default will show only that number when you use the sms/call popup on a contact. If you go to that contact's view, you can see all the numbers.
In your phone app, if you have smart dial, when you start entering the contact's name, all the numbers will come up.
Similarly in the SMS app, if you enter the contact name in the receipient filed, all the numbers would be shown in the option.
And do not worry what will happen if the FB profile pic is changes. When you turn ON auto-sync, it will automatically updated.
Yeah I got that part. I'm working my way through the list and making new contacts for the FB only people and merging the new contact with the FB profile. This way, I can eventually add their numbers to the contact.
I tried calling and texting my friend who has 2 numbers (one old and one I'm sure is active) and made the active number default. Looks like it did the trick. The old number doesn't pop up anywhere.
Now all that's left is to find the willpower to finish fixing my contacts and syncing them back to my Gmail Thank you everyone
So, I'm a bit confused with the plethora of options built into this phone. In order to set up Google Play, I had to enter a gmail account. That partially populated email on the phone. But there's also a separate GMAIL program. I can't remember which was necessary before contacts and calendar stuff started to appear.
Am I better off sticking with the phone's email program for gmail, or using the Gmail program from within the google apps folder? What are the plusses/minuses?
Also, is it possible to import contact photos from twitter for name matches or by linking profile to contact name?
Thanks!
GMail app is better for GMail as it allows specific GMail features like the stars, etc
Maybe the e-mail app supports that, but I am only using the E-Mail app for exchange
I would say go for the GMail app!
Use gmail app.
I just migrated from N900 to S3... I was using Hermes on N900 for contact sync and it added the facebook url to the contact details. Now i would like to install some application which just on the basis of that url, update *only* the contact picture. Is there some application available which can do this without hassle?
HaxSync
not working on the url basis... is the dev on xda ?? i would like to ask him about it?
You can also create a "facebook for sync" in account parameters... Works great for me..

I dont know how to create "facebook for sync" .. basically all i need is some app which go through the website section of a contact.. and update the profile pic on its basis... HaxSync seems not to be able to do that...
Don't know if the following works for your specific need but its worth a try:
Settings - accounts and sync -add account - add facebook account (or add facebook for syncing)
Then go to contacts - menu button - contacts to display - customised list - press facebook and choose what u want displayed.
I get contact pics synced from skype, gmail etc, can't really try facebook cause its blocked here...

Hello everyone, first time to post or ask a question although I've always found all i'm seeking through this forum and it's more than awesome, but i face a little problem...
The problem is as following, some contacts i have on my contact list are stored with another name than the name on facebook, ex: "John (Jazz Club)" isn't getting merged automatically with "John Lynn", specially when he's not showing the email on the facebook page to be stored once and every time i re-flash a ROM and sync, i get the contacts merged, i got hundreds of contacts not merged and seperated (my contact list are over 2k :S), and don't ask me to rename the contact cause i will never remember who the hell is John Lynn
I've imported facebook contacts via yahoo, exported and imported via gmail and the facebook section in the contacts with the profile name is shown in the contact online but still when i sync facebook contacts they are still separated.
What i need or what i wish there is, a method to add some sort of a link on the gmail contacts for the facebook profile, so whenever i flash a new ROM and sync facebook and gmail contacts, they got merged automatically
OR
an application that does some sort of a combined backup with the both contacts and it needs aswell to import all the newly added contacts on gmail into it, is there something like that ?
sorry if i complicate stuff but if you saw how the contact list looks it will scare the @*#$ out of you
Try long pressing the contact and then "join contact" then you can pick it manually.

I think he knows about the Join Contact option, what the OP is asking is if there is any way to store in Google Servers that action for future restores of his contact list.

Exactly Zedread, join contacts just join the interface of the two contacts together and as soon as you flash a new ROM it's all wasted, i need a method for a "once and for all" merge, either on the Gmail servers or by an application that works stand alone
No Hope guys ???
