Removing Installed Apps - Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Mini

Is there anyway to remove the installed apps that came with the phone i.e. Roller coaster, create touch, peggie, CA gold rush, and the roadsync apps?

Hi David
It isn't possible at the moment.
We'll have to wait till the phone gets rooted.

Thanks for letting me know. I'm new to this whole Android OS. Using dumbphones all my life.

Since installed apps cannot be removed, it eats up my internal memory space, now how do i install new apps ? Could not find any method to install it on SD card Any suggestions on how to install on SD card.

settings/applications/manage applications/ select app you don't want/uninstall/
You wont be able to uninstall apps on the ROM of course, but anything installed after the update can be removed.
You'll have to download an app installer for new apps. Place the downloaded APK file in one of the folders contained on the SD card eg./downloads ( done via a USB cable plugged into your computer). Run app installer and it should list all APK files. Depending on the installer, you may have to open the sub directory (folder) you stored the app in.
As far as I know, the only way to install apps on sd card in android is through the root. In other words you need a rooted phone - rooting on the x10 mini/pro hasn't been achieved yet.

It's been rooted now.
How would you go about removing RoadSync and Wisepilot for example?
EDIT: Oops, just saw the other thread, my bad.

To delete preinstalled apps, open up cmd and navigate to 'c:/exploid-x10mini' (like you did when you rooted it.
Then enter the following commands:
adb shell
su
rm -r /system/app/[filename]
The RoadSync filename is simply roadsync.apk
To find what the filename for a specific app is, you can navigate to /system/app from a file explorer on your phone, but you can only delete a file through cmd.

Help Please!
Can anyone tell me the app name for Creatouch and CA Gold Rush?
Ex. roadsync.apk
????????.apk

Just list the app directory and you will see all of them
Code:
ls -l

Creatouch is creatouch-2.apk and CA Gold Rush is california-gold-rush.apk

[Q] XTRSense 5.01 Questions

This is a question for Zach, but as a new user I did not have access to his thread. First, congratulations on developing a great ROM. You do great work, I love XTRSense 5.01. However, I have come across two small glitches, both related to your GScript app.
After running the Apps2SD script, all of the other scripts disappear. There is a note to find them on the SD card, but I haven't been able to find any scripts there. I specifically want to install the battery life script. Is there a way to recover access to the scripts?
Second, I accidentally ran the script that deleted HTC Teeter. Is there any way to get it back short of reinstalling the ROM?
Thanks in advance ...

Hi! Just to note, I'm not currently running xtrSENSE or xtrROM, but I have quite a lot in the past and probably will again someday, so I thought I'd answer what I can.
1. I don't know what's going on with scripts disappearing, are you sure you actually added them to GScript's list of available scripts? When you load GScript, initially it's blank, and you have to tell it to load each script individually. Make sure the checkbox for run as root is checked for each one. Then the first time you run one from the main GScript screen, it'll prompt you for SU access. Sorry if I'm including info you already know, just making this answer friendly for anyone who happens to find this thread. There should be a folder called gscript on the SD card.
Note: Different folder listing programs list files and folders in different sorting orders. Linux is case sensitive so you can have both a folder named gscripts and one called GScripts (only the first should exist, I'm just using it as example). What I'm getting at is that some programs list all the files and folders with starting with the lower-case letters first, and then the upper-case ones after, so if you look for the folder gscript, make sure and search everywhere in the listing.
Also, if you must, you can open the ROM zip file on your computer and look in the sdcard folder in it and you'll see the gscript folder there with all the scripts inside. Just copy the gscript folder to your SD card if they got deleted somehow.
2. Same as the last suggestion, you can open the ROM zip file on your computer and in the system\app folder there you'll find "teeter.apk". You can use Root Explorer off the Android Market to put that back in system\app, or you could just install it from your file manager (Astro, File Manager...) for it to reside in normal user memory.
Partial Success
"Also, if you must, you can open the ROM zip file on your computer and look in the sdcard folder in it and you'll see the gscript folder there with all the scripts inside. Just copy the gscript folder to your SD card if they got deleted somehow."
This worked perfectly. The GScript folder on the SD card was empty. Not anymore, and the scripts work fine.

I put teeter.apk on the SD card, but my attempts to intall it with ES File Manager failed. Maybe related to Apps2SD?

You don't want it on the SD card. You need to navigate to /system/app in internal storage on the ROM. Apps2sd moves third party apps that you install from the market to the SD card, but does not move the internal apps in /system/app.
You may need to restart after you pop that .apk back in /system/app to get it back in your app drawer.

[Q] Where does launcher looks to find user's apps?

Hi all. I was removing stock apps from my /system/app folder, and deleted Launcher2.apk by mistake. The phone couldn't boot properly, so I managed to get the apk from the emulator and install it using adb booting the phone on recovery mode.
Now, my problem is, that Launcher only shows shorcuts to the apps from my /system/app folder. Every apk I put or install on /data/app doesn't apear on the apps view. So there is no way to launch any app unles I manualy move it to system.
I think launcher must read a config file to get the installed apps, and it's failing for some reason. What do you think?
thanks in advance

Well just in case someone is interested in this. I'm creating symlinks from my /data/app and sdcard mounts to /system/app to workaround my problem.

No internet access / FIle Manager, can you install apk file from Terminal Emulator?

Let's say you don't have internet access at the moment.
Let's say all you have is fresh install of CyanogenMod 9, which for some reason, does not come with a File Manager :face palm:
Let's say you have an apk file on your SD card.
How would you install the apk file? Terminal emulator, using which commands or another way?
By the way, ASTRO File Manager vs. ES File Explorer, which one and why?
- Put your apk file to sdcard (ex: es.apk)
- open internet browser
- type "file:///sdcard/es.apk" then press Go

I just figured this out on my own and it worked:
How to install app called Example Name.apk from Android phone's Terminal Emulator:
This shows you how to change directory to SD card ; list contents ; change directory to folder called Google Play which contains file to be installed called Example Name.apk
cd sdcard/
ls
cd "google play"/
ls
su
pm install "Example Name.apk"
Yep there are many way to install apks

No Explorer/No Playstore
This is a shameful noob problem. Can someone help me please? :fingers-crossed:
I deleted my file explorer app so I can't execute apks from my SD. Also I can not download them from Play Store because it crashes (probably cuz I deleted this system file that has something to do with managing Google Accounts. Currently, I only have the following Google apps installed - Google Backup Transport, Google Contacts Sync, Google Play Store, Google Services Framework)
I rooted my Sony Xperia Arc with the brilliant, super easy rooting kit found here
Putting down my phone details in case they are required -
Model: LT15i
Android: 4.0.4
Kernel: 2.6.32.9
Build: 4.1.B.0.587
Should I just try installing a ROM otherwise?
Thank you so much for reading!
Just in case anyone else comes by here.
If I were you (months ago), I would have reinstalled the exact same ROM, directly over the ROM.
Or, I would have installed GAAPS. Or I would have connected a cable and dropped the files I needed, like a playstore.apk onto the phones internal memory, and then executed it through the browser. file:///path/*.apk
I was going over ADB from my PC, via usb debugging.
System app is just copy to your system/app folder.
and set permition to 644 (rw-r--r--)
Adb push *.apk /system/app
Normal apk is
Adb install *.apk

You need to select the correct platform, ARM, and correct Android version and variant, I prefer micro, definitely not full.
You need to know how to install this from your sdcard before booting in.

[Q] A few questions regarding Android

I have a phone Galaxy Ace plus. I rooted it and recently installed SSHDroid to it. I have little knowledge of Linux so after I ssh in, I did wander little bit and found this,
1)
- All personalized settings of user are kept in /data/data
- Each app is assigned a special userid/groupid and has rights on its particular directory only.
So,
If I purchase a new phone and lets say I install temple run in it, so I copy the com.imangi.templerun/* from the old phone to the new phone and copy the permissions from the parent folder (com.imangi.templerun) of the new phone so will I get my high score, achievements etc in the new phone ?
2)
At the root there is a soft link /sdcard which points to /mnt/sdcard. Is it possible I change this link to /mnt/sdcard/external_sd so when I move any application to 'sdcard' it goes to the external_sd and not in the USB storage ?
3)
There are apk's in the /data/app ? These I suppose are installers so what is their function in the phone ? Can I safely delete them to free some space ?
Apologies for being a noob, but I am new in Android.
Thanks.
Bump.

To answer your first question the easiest way to transfer your Temple Run application data from one phone to another would be to use an application such as Titanium Backup to back up the Temple Run app data, then transfer the Temple Run app data to your computer, after that transfer the Temple Run app data from your computer to your new phones Titanium Backup folder and after installing Temple Run on your new phone (Make sure it's rooted so you can use Titanium Backup) use Titanium Backup to restore the Temple Run app data you transferred from your computer. For your second question yes it is possible to do this using the Linux "ln" command, a word of caution not all applications will function properly if they are on the external storage. Lastly, unlike .exe type installers that you would find on Windows .apk files function as both the package installer and the Android application package itself that contains all the code for the application to function. You can't delete these apk's to free up space because it will then remove the application from your phone. For example if you remove the Temple Run apk from your data/app folder you will remove Temple Run from your phone. Let me know if you still have questions .

Official PlayStore apk install and More for android wear

1.- Move all these apks to the /system/priv-app folder of the android wear watch, and chmod 644 all apks with adb/terminal or change permissions to rw,r,r and change the owner to System and the group to System with file manager.

Yes I got all intalled ok. I did everything as you said.

Does UCBrowser open and work?
"Google play services has stopped to work" after this process. I can´t get uc browser or play store working (installing as user apps as shown at step 3) If I move it to priv-app, UC browser works, but playstore´s still crashing. I don´t understand the dummy apks and its purpose...
If I install the dummy and before the user app UC browser, it doesn´t work. It needs to be pushed on priv-app to get networking

Yes I guess it needs to be done first! If you use /system/app mover to move playStore to system then after it reboots install the newer PlayStore apk as an user with ES file explorer then delete the play store apk on the system/priv-app folder and add the older dummy apk again and it should work! I think it needs to be installed to system for real first then update it then move the older dummy apk to /system folder after you've updated it, the point of the dummy apk is to save space! if you want you could just leave the real apk in the System/folder

I don´t understand the steps. If I install something outside from priv-app, it won´t work on network, that´s a fact. I think google play services must be in priv-app also with play store and other google apps, but I don´t have space enought on /system partition (the play store crashes saying google play services has stopped, and I cannot install play services as user app because it says that already exists). Why it already exists? Must I delete the default Android wear Play services and replace with this new package? And what´s the installation order?
1- Install the dummy as user app and move it to /system with permissions, etc.
2- Reboot and install the real google play apk as user app
3- Reinstall the dummy on /system again (mantaining the real Gplay as user app and getting free space on /system)
Is this?
I only got UC browser working while being on priv-app, but nothing with play store... Really I´m trying to get it working
Yes any apps in the system folders get networking! And if you update that app it moves it to /data and still works as long as an dummy apk is in system folder. And yes I might have use the adb -r command to install play services or threw ES file explorer as an update? I'm not to sure

Then, how I update an app for save space on /system? And how I install new play services without corrupting anything?
And what´s adb -r command for?
Sorry for all of that questions, but I´m interested in learning And thanks for all!
Have you tried to install play services apk with ES file explorer or threw adb? Android wear has play services installed already so it's just an update! It's called prebuiltGmsCoreForClockworkWearable.apk on my watch and is in the priv-app folder!
you have to install the app or apps to the /system/priv-app or /system/app folder first - you can use the app /system/app mover or adb or terminal or file manager. then you need to use ES File explorer and install an newer version of the same app and it will be updated and re-installed to the /Data partition where there is more space, it does not remove the apk from the /system folders but it's not used only checked for and wastes space so that's why the dummy apk is used. If you don't want to install other apps to system then just install PlayStore or UCBrowser and leave it in system but there isn't much space 30+mb.
adb install -r package.name.apk reinstalls the app without replacing the data like an update.
Ahh I found what was going on I forgot an apk GoogleAccountManager.apk it don't need to be in the system folder but if you reset the watch it will get deleted too unless it's in the system folder!
Can you upload it please? I'll try it

Hi, may I ask, what is the purpose of doing this? Is it for times when Android Wear becomes unstable?
I have put the apps to /system/priv-app. I chmod-ed them to 644. But i am not able to change user/group.
when in sdcard/Downloads the files are shown as root:sdcard_r. chown system:system filename result in no error, but ls -al still delivers root:sdcard_r
after putting the files in system/priv-app i am shown to have no rights to change user/group (no rights to write on system?). I dont know how to get these rights. Standard linux code doesnt work, necessary commands not integrated in wear?
In the file manager of twrp i dont find any option to change user/group. ES File Explorer is installed, but activation of root explorer returns an error. And yes, the device IS rooted
Edit:
When in /system/priv-app by adb shell su the files are shown root/root as user/group.
So the whole procedure results in:
I can start ES File Explorer (only through native GUI, not wear mini launcher, dont know why) - but i am not able to install an apk by it. Every try results in no app/no gesture. Now i am stuck...
Edit:
Ok, i made it by TWRP/Terminal. baaaaad work with that smaaaall keyboard and big fingers...
but it doesnt look as if that was the big point. File Explorer still cant get root explorer and i still cant install apps...

Do you have root for this? If so how have you granted access if superuser doesnt work yet? Also how do you change the groups? And do the apks need to be in a folder in system/priv-app like they are in our phones? I moved all the apks but none of them installed I have TWRP but im still trying ti work out my root on Sony Smartwatch 3
