Welcome People I have been along time reader and have been installing roms since HTC Titan.
I love to announce that will be starting a new project that will tie into Google Voice-mail Services. Right now Google can only send text messages and email message to people to let them now that if they have a voice mail. That is not good enough.
When I was trying to make a Microsoft Exchange Server talk to a PBX, I notice that I lost the ability called MWI (Message Waiting Indicator). There is the same feature with in the Windows Mobile Framework. When your voice-mail gets forwarded to Google it can't trip the Message Waiting Indicator on our Windows Mobile Phones. So here is an service application that will do that for us.
I hope that with a little more time in development I will be-able to release some kind of open-beta. Right now how the service is setup it does get called all the time when the device sleeps.

Youmail I have never heard of it. I went to there website and looks like they have an developers API, that allows up to query there servers about voice messages, and return that information in xml. so looks like im going to retool this application into a multi service application.

Hello I recenlty got my Dell Streak from Best Buy. I have since used QDL and upgraded to the latest 2.2 sofware and rooted the phone. I really like and love this phone. The new software has corrected almost all of my concerns with the phone.
But.... LOL, Theres always a but.
Iphone 3gs was my first AT&T phone. It came preloaded with visual voicemail. A feature i soon came to love and adore. Before that I had a very long history with the Palm Treo on sprint which only had a voicemail indicator. BUT the streak has abosolutley no voicemail features whatsoever. No icon to tell you that you have pending voicemails. No visual voicemail. Nothing. I searched the app market and didnot find any solution at all. Also call me stupid but im not even sure how to check my voicemail on AT&T. I'm sure i can probably just call my number and put in a pin or something. But screw that.
This is a basic cell phone function. How could this be left out!
I guess im asking if there is a solution out there that i am not aware of, or if any developers can make a fix for this. Heck i would even pay for such an application. I know I can't be the the only person who has noticed this feature missing on the Streak.
Visual voicemail isn't supported by all devices. When I went from my blackberry to the streak the visual voicemail was gone from the services on at&t account online.

Have a look at Hullamail. It works great for me on O2 in the UK. From the app it notifies you if you receive new voicemail or missed calls and you can then view and listen from the app or set it to email you which you can then pickup and listen to the mp3 either on your phone or from your PC etc.

You may want to sign up and try Google Voice.
As far as accessing your voice mail on AT&T just open the dialer and long press on 1 (one). If your VM isn't set up follow the prompts.
Mine has a vm icon. I'm on Steve's 1.5.0. I don't think I've never had a vm icon though. I just pull the menu down and click vm and it calls.
PhoneFusion+ is a free service to ATT customers. ATT reps will tell you but BB reps don't have any idea (at least not the ones who sold me my Streak). It gives you visual notification of calls missed/voicemails. Also lists your voicemails visually with contact info and time of call. It actually call forwards the call to its server and plays the outgoing message stored on your card. Voicemails are then sent back to your card so you can view/listen w/o having to dial into att to retrieve.
If you want the entire text of the voicemail, they will do that for a monthly fee. You can try that part free for 30 days. I found it to be very inaccurate so cancelled text VM, but kept and use the rest of the app.
PhoneFusion+ is in the Market.

Install the Google voice app from the market, run it and follow the prompts. If you get a message that the forwarding change has failed go to your google voice page on your computer and click on settings, then voice settings. Click on the voice settings link and when that page loads click on activate voicemail and follow the prompts there. Make sure your carrier is listed properly.
I have fully adopted my GVoice number and it is what I give out now. The two main issues are:
Dropping MMS without notification
Some OS or App text integration doesn't work
I love the widgets available to the Samsung Galaxy line of phones but does anyone have experience using them with Google Voice?

I dunno if I can fully answer this, but I'll try.
Using LightFlow, I receive LED light notifications as well as text notifications for any SMS, and emails for MMS - however, I get the "normal" email message notification for MMS, not something that specifically tells me it's an MMS. The widgets aren't super-helpful with MMS, but again, i don't really get/use the GV number for them.
I haven't had any issues with App integration, but I only have texted/used it from the mail app and Chrome, so I dunno if that will answer that question. I don't think I've immersed myself as much as you have, but when I use GV, it has worked great.
This was on my S3 - I had a Tmobile GN2 for a week and it worked just as well. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

Voice has become another red headed stepchild lately, it seems. Been waiting on them to do something about the MMS thing for years. Not a big deal to not get them, but it should at least tell you that you're not getting something someone is attempting! App integration has been bugging me more too. They really need to get on with polishing up the app, or at least open up the api's to let others do what they want to it.
I just upgraded from my Samsung Captivate which was running CM10 to the HTC One. One of the things I loved about the old phone was that all my voicemails would show up in my call log and I could play them from there. When I tried setting up GV on the new phone, I got a bunch of error messages and somehow the phone removed my old call forwarding rules and then couldn't reapply them. So I logged out of the Google Voice app and tried again. No dice. Finally, I went back and did it the old fashioned way by manually typing in the MMI code and managed to get the calls forwarded again to GV. When I went to the dialer app to manually switch the voicemail provider to GV, I again get the error messages and when it asks to still switch to the new provider I click OK. However, it kicks out another error message and then shows that nothing has changed and still lists AT&T as the default voicemail provider. So, has anyone managed to get this working properly or have AT&T and HTC once again colluded to completely bork functionality that works oh so well on stock Android?
Just got a response to my support request from HTC. Laughably, they claim they "cannot guarantee full functionality with Play Store applications." That is pretty pathetic. In their quest to differentiate, they eliminated one of the best features of Android in my mind. I hated dialing numbers and using the dialpad to access and control voicemail years ago. When Google made Google Voice available on Android, it was one of the factors that made me choose it over the iPhone. Then they made it even better than visual VM on iOS by integrating it into the dialer. This dialer from HTC is a huge step in the wrong direction. I don't need all this FB and Twitter integration crap. Just let me access my VM in the best possible way.
I have it working but I never got it to work using the Google voice app configuration.
It was still working when I swapped my son card to the HTC one from my gs3.
I had to go into the phone app and change the forwarding numbers manually. Also the voice mail number.
If that doesn't work I think you can contact at&t and they can fix it for you.
Wait...you have your Google voice voicemails showing up in the dialer app so that you can click play and listen to them without going into the GV app? I did manage to get the forwarding set up, but I want the voicemails to show in the dialer like they did on CM10.

Same issue, voicemail set up, but I can not get the call log to show voicemails. Tried unchecking voicemail display as indicated in other forums, but doesn't work either way.
Bump...no dialer integration or notifications is a big problem for me as well.
Instead of making a new thread I will just bump this one. Did anyone managed to get they HTC One to integrate Google Voice visual voicemail into the dialer? I searched everywhere but couldn't find any info on that.
Maybe there are any 3rd party modifications that can fix this issue?
p.s Just to clear things for someone who reads between the lines my GV Voicemail is working fine, what I am trying to figure out is how to integrate it into dialer and get visual voicemail from there.

No luck. I stopped trying. I may give it another go.
Just installed ARHD Google edition Rom and visual google voice voicemail works great in there, but I prefer Sense based Rom so will go back to it. Shame visual voicemail doesn't work on it, seems like HTC broke the compatibility.
If anyone knows a solution that would be great!
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note II that has been rooted and uses CleanROM 5.0. Today I noticed that my Google Voice messages are not only being received by the GV App, but also by the stock messenger App. Also, the stock messenger App will reply through whichever source the SMS came in (either Google Voice or Verizon). This surprised me, as I don’t remember ever getting GV messages that way before. Google Voice messages would only go to the GV App. I have also determined that I don’t even need to be logged on to the GV App for this to work. I tried Googling this to see if it was normal. All I could find was recent news of this being achieved by a Cyanogen Mod and there also being an App that will do this. I have neither a Cyanogen mod nor that App. What am I missing here? Why is the doing this for me? In any case, I’d like to use just the Stock App for everything I’d like to know how to make all outgoing messages default to using just Google Voice. Any ideas around why this started happening and how I can control how new messages will be sent?
Answered my own question (mostly)
OK, I found out why this started happening. Somehow I had changed the setting in Google Voice, so that text messages were getting sent my cell phone. So duh.... when I received a text to my Google account, it also was going to my Verizon account, and thus my stock messaging app. I found this out when I saw all the text charges Verizon was billing me for. So now I am using that App, called Stock Messaging Application with Google Voice, It looks somewhat like the stock application- but not quite (I like the stock better). It does catch messages coming in from both Google and and Verizon. I have it set to reply to all through Google- which it does. This is mostly what I wanted to do- the problem is, it's a little buggy. Sometimes a message won't go in or out. And as I said, I still like the stock app better.
So I still have a remaining question. Does anyone know if, or when, the breakthrough of this from July (for Cyanogen Mod) is showing up for other ROMS?

Glad to see someone else cares- I was actually kind of surprised by the lack of feedback/interest in this. I would have guessed this would be of more interest to people....oh well.
The app I was referring to can be found on the Google Play Store- it is called "Messaging + Google Voice", the developer is Troxie.net

The problem with this app is that it seems a little buggy. Sometimes messages don't send or receive- but in general it does what it says. I have also found the Text for Free service by Pinger works pretty well with the stock messaging. You can set it so that all of your cell phone service based texts will also go into the Text for Free app. Then when you reply, the outgoing message will go through text for free. However, this is a separate number- not a Google Voice number.

I actually use the Sprint integration with Google Voice, so I am using only one phone number, my Sprint mobile number. I am really just trying to set it up so that if I am at my PC and I send an SMS with the web interface, that message will also be displayed on my phone. Right now, I can see that message in my google voice app, but not any third party SMS app (like Textra, which I use). I want to be able to use Textra to send all my SMS and MMS, and have it sync any messages I send using the google voice web interface as well.
I've been pretty disappointed with Google leaving out their loyal Android customers in the dust when it comes to the feature mentioned in the title. This feature has been available to iOS users since before Android KitKat was released.
Here's my question:
Would it be possible to add a line of code to the Google Hangouts app on Android to receive forwarded Google Voice calls as it does on the iOS app?
Or would such a feature have to be enabled on the backend at Google's servers and any mods to the app would be pointless?
Here's why I am hopeful:
There's been apps like Groove IP that are already able to provide this feature. I'd just like to have this functionality without having to install any 3rd party apps that always have to be running in the background. Google Hangouts is already the primary sms app for Android & so it is already able to receive texts, mms, along with video and voice chats. Thus, it should be somewhat possible to receive call forwarding from Google voice.

This is exactly what I was looking for as well.
It seems iOS gets free voice support but in a weeks time when google voice gets rip of XMPP all other work arounds will cease to exist.
Frustrating.

Yep, I didn't know that they were getting rid of access to 3rd party apps like GrooveIP.
I just noticed that Google Hangouts will now also verify your Google Voice number. I don't believe that it did this initially. Maybe this is a sign of good things to come. Hopefully we get the same benefits that the iOS users have been reaping for awhile now.

So it looks like we're slowly getting there. Some user over on reddit was able to initiate a call from Hangouts on a desktop and then join the conversation via the hangouts app on his android device. The call was still maintained after he disconnected from the desktop.

This is definitely a step in the right direction.
Do you think anyone here would be able to put a modified apk of google hangouts that has an inbuilt dialer which will allow us to skip the desktop part? That would be wicked. I'll pledge $5 towards a bounty for the developer who is able to hack this.
