Im looking for a karaoke app for android... Now i know there are several on the market, but none of them are compatible with cdg karaoke files which is what i could really do with seeing as i have over 30,000 karaoke songs, it would come in handy on the move.
Anyone know an app that can do this?
I was looking for a karaoke app some days ago and there appears to be 1 app that can play cdg files: Karaoke now available in the market and at http://www.tricerasoft.com/kn/karaokenow.htm
However, from what i understand from their website it seems you can not load your own cdg files and there is no trial version available.
If you buy the app let me know if it works with your own cdg files, maybe i will buy it as well.
I bought it. It seems to work well, and you CAN load your own songs, it just isn't obvious from their interface.
In the settings, choose to have downloaded files "Save to External Memory" (i.e. the microSD on my EVO)
Annoyingly, this puts downloaded songs in the root of your SD. When you open Karaoke Now, go to Search and Search All Local Songs. Anything you have copied to the root of your card will then be searchable and playable.
Files must be unzipped, as far as I can tell.
Enjoy!
Hint
Thank you for this link to a karaoke App for Android that reads MP3+G from SD card!
By the way, you can get the app for free. Instead of downloading it from the Android market, go to the website above and download from their website for free. Then you can transfer the file to your phone and install it with an android installer like "Onymous App Installer". Or you can use your phone's browser.
The actual version lets you search for karaoke file anywhere on your SD card!
Is there a correct way of naming the files since I get this from the "Local Songs List"

I can only see the artist name.
This is how my mp3+gs are named/tagged:

Never mind. Just got reply from their Support Operator:
You can ignore the ID3 tags because we don't read the ID3 tags on the phone. However the filename should be:
Artist - Title - Album Code
And optionally:
Artist - Title - Album Code (manufacturer - genre)
And the space dash space must be a real "-" (dash), not an extended character that looks like a dash. You can download one of our songs from the catalogue to the SD card and refer the naming.

Where I can find free karaoke songs? I haven't a internet connection on my phone now, but I would test it now with a free legal song!
Ulduzsoft Karaoke Player is a nice and free cdg player for Android
I use Ulduzsoft Karaoke Player app which is free. I'm a karaoke fun and also collect thousands of cdg+mp3
Karaoke Now! app from tricerasoft.com is nice as well but I do not like the interface and its hard locating to the folder.
http://m.amazone-kindle-fire.apps.opera.com/en_us/karaoke_now.html?pos=1 you can download it here.

Can anyone suggest a good reader?
All the ones ive come across so far need you to dl the books from them, or some other format epub and what not.
I have a couple hundred books already in txt, rtf and html all zipped.
Or on that note whats the best reader, what format does it use and whats the best way to convert them all?
FBreader.... great one worked for me with my .mobi files...
http://www.fbreader.org/
it says it only reads oeb, epub, fb2 BUT it opens my .mobi files good.

Aldiko, for books and ACV for comic books.
I remember hearing about an app that organized books and found it again, Calibre.
Jeez, all my rtfs, txts and htmls were all misnamed. I spent an hour just fixing up 100 or so books, and said i had 400 or so. Ungh. It was nice seeing metadata and what not.
From what I was able to research Aldiko and Fbreader were the head choices.
How are comics to read though? I remember trying on my ipaq and almost throwing up. I guess with pinch zooming and what not its a bit more practical.
Aldiko is the best ereader software I've used on a phone. I actually buy ePubs from B&N and other sites, crack the DRM, and import them into Aldiko.
If you have a bunch of files in various formats, just use Calibre on your computer (it's available for Windows, Mac, and Linux), like Thelgow suggested, to organize your library and then convert all of the files to ePub. Calibre does a great job of conversion and works on almost any ebook file type you can find, as long as the files are DRM-free (obviously).
aldikooooo
I use FBReader and convert all my books to epub using Calibre.
What would be really good if someone could suggest a book reader with TEXT-TO-AUDIO option... There were quite a few of them for winmo. For android I couldn't find any...
I used to search high and low for music player appz for the X10 Mini.
Besides the Spotify player/client for streamed music from that paysite (I have a premium account) I use the PowerAMP to play my own music (mp3s ripped from my CDs thats legal in Sweden as long as I just makes copies for myself) ,
PowerAMP is good and has a lot of bling-bling even for a pay app. Had some issues with the PowerAMP that it started to play tunes every now and then.
Like plugging in or out the 3,5 jack (at home) or connected the Samsung SBH650 bluetooth headset.
As the X10 Mini has a great multitasking capability that meant that PowerAMP played music when I tried to listening to music from Spotify.
Since the latest SE update the PowerAMP seems to stay shut when not actuallu tapping it's play button
Does someone out there found players, that have become a favourite?
PS. Love to use the Spotify music streaming and Google Maps and GPS simultaneous when driving. As long as there are 3G cover maps, GPS-positions as well as the music will work without glitches from this little magic box, we call X10 Mini. Don't know about the Pro, never had one
My favourite is WinAmp. Just really handy to use. Although before this I used TuneWiki - it has an awesome lyrics function.

Funny guy huh?
but seriously.. its a great app, I recommend checking it out (even the free version is pretty good)
Mortplayer is the best. At least in my eyes.
You can play all files in one folder, not just from playlists, or song / artist / album.
Cubed. The coolest player ever. And it´s free.
MortPlayer
MortPlayer
Music PlayerPro. Advanced version of standard android player.
I use PowerAMP
Though the letters are too small,it can play any format of audio including FLAC and also has an equalizer....
So its the bets in my eyes....
doubleTwist & Btunes
doubleTwist
Btunes
Best for me..
i prefer winamp, but i didn't hear much music via my mini pro, ipod in car-use
PowerAmp.. the best one.
I tried all cited players, and all uses more battery that original. So I decided keep stock player mod version, found here on forum. Its usefull; it doesnt have to many resources but I can play for hours without drain my battery.
I listen thru the default stock player but then I found this PowerAmp and decided to test it. It simply blow me away... Great player with music tag aditor, album art auto download and those equalisers are awesome...
Features wise; Poweramp.
I try Cubed because it's free and I found it very good, widget included and nice user interface (but a little difficult at first look) !
So I used TubeMate to download a 1280x720 video from YouTube. It's 120MB, and seems to have downloaded correctly (deleted and downloaded again to be fairly certain). But when I open Gallery and try to play the video, it doesn't show the screenshot like all my other videos do (all converted movies that I copied from my PC to the memory card via USB at home), and it doesn't play.
Found another post in a different forum, where the user was asking why he could play these files under 4.1.57, but not 4.1.83. The user was scolded for asking in the wrong forum, and the thread closed. But it doesn't appear anyone has addressed this issue.
Can't help but figure YXPlayer would probably work, but I haven't paid for it on my new phone. Any thoughts? Would sure like to get this working. Thanks!
Download GSpot here on your PC (it's not porn) ------->

Tried a bunch of different video playing apps, to see if I could resolve the issue. Moboplayer was the best, actually starting the video... but the audio and video got out of sync.
Something must be amiss, but it's VERY frustrating. Since MANY of the videos I converted to play on my Xoom show up and play FINE on the Atrix. Must be something about these YouTube videos that are different.
Are you trying to play just on your phone, or through the hdmi cable? I had the problem with it not playing videos in webtop or hd entertainment center. The fix is pretty simple and involves changing a value in the build.prop file.
Just trying to play it on the phone. I could download and watch in on PC's in all sorts of formats if I want to watch it elsewhere...
NOTE: Just tried downloading the 640x360 version with TubeMate, and it plays fine using the Gallary Media Player. Wonder why the HD version 1280x720 doesn't work the same way.

Look at the 720p I have in this post ----->
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13840116&postcount=106
Your kbps are way low, even when compared to my 480p video. Audio is also not at a standard bitrate. I doubt that has anything to do with it, but you never know. That could be your sync problem there if the Atrix isn't handling variable bit rate audio for example.
I'm having the same problem with the same program. It gives me the same error is about 3 different players. And I'm able to play the 640 version as well. It seems to be an issue with the encoding from the app on the higher quality videos. the 640 version looks decent on my phone and I guess I'll stick with that until there's a Tubemate update.
I just found out about the Media Go program by Sony, which let's you sync music, video and pictures and view/play them.
It looks much better than Winamp and Mediamonkey, and works easier too.

It works with other brands too, a SGSII user reported this working great.
It works with any Sony multimedia device, kinda surprised you found out about this now
also to add album art to mp3's use this program, all the players will read album arts correctly
Hi,
I've been using the program since it's launch a few years ago. I think it's visually the best program of it's kind...I agree it's easy to use and for phones it's pretty good software I think.
But...it duplicates songs a lot, and I don't always know why. I know that if I imported music by CD without connection to the internet, then look up song info in Media Go it keeps the old songs AND finds the info of the new songs...it duplicates some songs on my SD and I don't know why.
I've been chatting about this on the Sony Forum. Many 2011 Sony devices have a problem with version 2.1. No matter what your sync settings, every time you connect your phone it resyncs everything in your library...I've a lot of music/tv/podcasts...that's a nightmare. I wish I could tell it that some of my music is not music but actually podcasts.
Overall it's a great program, just a few issues left......
p.s. downgrade to version 2.0 if you have these problems, they go away, find it on softwareinformer.com past versions.

I would like to ask, that do you know how to embed album art to the mp3 file itself (using Media Go)?
I know, that I can link album art, but it is not always embedded in the file.
My test is: I add the album art to the song properties is Media Go, and then play the music in VLC. If it shows the album art, then I assume it embedded.
I am running the 1.6 version (higher versions fail to retreive info from Gracenote database for me).
Hi ^^ I think that will work; download album artwork, then sync to your device, the artwork becomes embedded after download is complete. Does that answer your question?

I was hoping for a solution, that doesn't require to send my song to the device, but I'll definitely give this method a try!
Strange story: I had an album, which I set art to. Later, I use the 'VLC check" I mentioned before, and only 1 song had the art. So I selected all the songs in the album, and set the artwork for them together. After this, the covers were there with every song?!?! ... Tried to do this with other albums also, but without any luck. I have noooooo idea how this works anymore!
One solution

It worked!
Now I only have to send all my music to a device and transfer it back!
If someone has a solution, that doesn't include so much copying, please don't keep it to yourselves!
Strange
Hi all!
I am having this strange issue, with one of my mp3-s.
I set the album art in MediaGo, and transfer it to my thumb drive to make it embedded.
After that, when I play the music from the thumb drive, an another picture is embedded, always the same one, which I don't even have.
I tried different downloads of the mp3, different drives, different pictures ... this keeps happening!
Anyone can think of a solution?
Hi, one solution which usually works for artwork and playlist problems is deleted Android's build of those details. Go to apps, all apps, media storage, delete. Now restart the phone. Album artwork, thumbnails and playlists recount from the very start.

I use a pendrive / storage unit / thumb drive / usb stick (or idk what you call it) for this embedding. But the mentioned same image gets embedded, even if I use a usb stick, that has never had that mp3 on it! ... this is why I'm confused
I decided to let this subject get its own thread since I guess that it can be important.
I bought a 128 GB SanDisk Cruze and a USB-OTG cable (Startech) today for the Ultra and can report that it works perfectly. The drive mounts properly and everything seems to be perfectly OK.
To me, it is a great way to expand the storage capacity when needed and it is a great way to store media files etc and offload photos and videos taken with the camera to the flash drive when necessary.
Here is a picture of the Ultra with the Cruze attached.

Well this is nice to know in case we are traveling and we want to watch a lot of (1080p) movies
Would the flash drive use more power vs using a high capacity microsd card?
File system?
What is the drive's file system? I just want to make sure... can it read NTFS drives?
It seems like my drive is formatted as FAT/exFAT when I checked it. I haven't tried NTFS on the Ultra.
I think it is a great idea to use it for movies - it is also easy to move it between devices. I have a lot of 1080p movies but some of them are really big, 5 GB or so and I am transcoding them down to around 2 GB. They still look great on the device and with HandBrake and H.264 in the MP4 container, Sony Movies can play them (I have noticed that I fails to play my mkvs with Dolby audio).
I can recommend MovieBrowser uPnP for those that want to watch a lot of movies on any Android device. It has a nice widget and a very elegant UI where the movies are presented, the information is automatically downloaded and put in place. I think it is a very nice front end for a movie collection and makes it very enjoyable browsing it. The only drawback is that it is a bit picky with the recognized players, i.e. it can't send a movie to whatever player. Sony Movies works so it can be selected as the default player and then it starts playback when a movie is selected in MovieBrowser.

Awww too bad... i was hoping it can handle NTFS... i know it is an android or kernel limitation..
If it was ntfs, no need to transcode files bigger than 4gb as the NTFS system would let you handle big files.
As for the video player, i just use BSPlayer.. never failed me..
Thanks for the reply!
I use BSPlayer too, it is great but it seems that there has been a Dolby licensing problem so the latest versions lack support for Dolby Digital. I hope they can resolve it.
I am transcoding my movies more because I think that 4-5 GB is a bit too big for the device when equal picture quality can be provided with 2-2.5 GB. So in my case, it is about using the space more efficiently.
