I have a netbook with builtin a GlobeTrotter HSxPA module. It seems like it's SIM locked.
Is it possible to remove the lock without paying? And how do I do that?

Brand? Like CMDA or GSM? In that case GSM (I'm using it in Sweden).
Otherwise, what brand are you talking about?

Did you try using the same Airtel SIM in another mobile? If your phone can detect the BSNL SIM, the problem may be with the SIM and not the mobile.
If another SIM works, the problem is NOT baseband.
- SIM locked phone
- faulty SIM

No, it cannot. Neither can 6.6.x. As I said above -if another SIM works (GSM/data and all) - the problem is not baseband. Other than that, not interested in debugging PEBKAC issues.

Expecting users to provide useful and accurate information and problem description is a lost cause here nowadays. Some people would be way better off with a good old dumbphone.

Nah, you filtered the irrelevant crap properfly out of the OP. There is a decent chance the guy will recognize when GSM is working, but there apparently is zero chance he knows anything about baseband version he is using etc.

Yeah.. and here in India, we don't have SIM locked phones being sold, except the iPhone. So the OP's SIM should be faulty.

Same here, not even iPhones. (Another slim chance is that the other operator has no coverage in the area he is testing.)
Executive summary: You will not solve your problem by asking question that is confusing like hell. Damnit, people!

Yeah but the Airtel network is one of the best in India and if this guy is from a city, then it should be of top notch coverage. Hope he's not hiding in some remote village. So many posts but no solution. Pays for an incomplete question.
@OP: Please provide some details on the configuration of your phone (ROM, kernel, etc). Seriously doubt that this is an issue with the phone. Test the SIM with other phones and update back. No more guessing posts here
hi s3 owner here in the uk...simple question is i have the quad s3 on the t-mobile network...i cant believe that they havnt locked there phone...
there is no t-mobile start up screen or even t-mobile apps...is there a way to check if it is unlocked apart from trying different sim cards...ie like a code you enter...
sorry for the dumbness of my question....ohh and keep up the good work
Whr r u from?
Got mine from Vodafone, and its branded. Not locked.
Same in T-Mob case, they r just branded. Bootanimation etc is Samsung stock, u should just have some "T-Mob-Special-Apps" in your Appdrawer.
Im Using T-mob Germany Card in my VF-Phone, just choose your Networkprovider under Settings and everthing is fine

is that the right code getting connection problem or invalid mmi code
which firmware it has now?
Mine too (in AUstralia Voda), at first I was on stock firmware and network locked.
I swear I can execute that code, and I even unlock it using voda's official unlock code.
Now I am running CheckRom v3.5 based on BLFB and I get the invalid mmi code.
Someone said need to use stock dialer. But I thought my dialer is stock.

If you have a SIM card you are GSM, if not you are CDMA.

Doesn't matter what you have. In both versions (5*2 or 5+2) you are restricted to use only 5+2 . Even if you have lower cam of 5mp , you can't use more than 2mp.
Just out of curiosity, how do I identify whether my lower camera is 5 or 2 MP?
Hey guys, im planning to buy a Droid Razr in India (the CDMA one) and using it with GSM, and the guy who's selling it says that i can flash Custom ROM's without any hassle. Is it true? Just wanted to confirm.

thanks for your reply, but i think the razr and the bionic have both been hacked to make GSM work as they possess the wireless capabilities.
