i backup 71 apps and flash new rom and go to restore them and it might restore a couple and the rest will say not installed
what am i doing wrong
Could be that you're doing something like trying to flash sense apps onto an aosp rom I dono. Make sure you're hitting "backup apps + data" and "restore ALL apps + data"
thanks i think i got it figured out

Normally when I do a backup using Titanium Backup, I use the batch function and select "Backup all user apps + system data." Then, after I flash my new ROM, I'll do "Restore missing apps + all system data."
My concern is that if I'm making a backup from a ROM that contains bloatware, then flashing to a debloated ROM, wouldn't restoring all missing apps cause that bloatware to be installed again?
What about restoring system data? Would that reinstall anything that I wouldn't want?
Is the best thing to do is go through each item individually and select what you'd want to restore? That seems very time consuming, and I'd hate to overlook anything.
I guess I'm mainly interested in what most people do when they backup and restore apps and system data when flashing from one ROM to another.
Thanks!
When backing up and restoring, you can choose which apps/system data you want to backup. And if you accidentally do backup one, you can just select it and delete the backup.
When doing a restore, you must make sure you are restoring things that will work with the Rom.
Like for example, system data made for a froyo Rom, could mess up a gingerbread Rom and vice versa. Just depends on what you are trying to restore. For system data, the only main thing I restore (that I remember) is the sense launcher settings, which restores how my screen was set up.

I have this same question. What is the best practice? It seems there is no need to backup system data... only apps + data, is that correct?
i always back up and restore system data that shows up with green text instead of red. these are consider to have "useful" data. theres around 22 or 23 if i remember right. i would start with these and then de select the ones you dont want. for examples i dont use the stocks app so i dont back up stock data. otherwise back up all user apps and data these dont include any of the stock or bloatware apps that come pre installed so its best to keep them all.
Here is what I do.
Open Titanium and Click "menu" on your phone and then select "batch". You will then see a list of different scenarios, look for "backup all user apps" and select "run" . This will back up all your apps. If you want to do system data too select "backup all apps and system data". I always backup up apps and data. Once you select either of these it will show you a list with everything it is backing up. If you don't want something backed up for whatever reason, just uncheck it in the list.
Now if you flash a custom rom that wipes everything and you want to restore all your apps, open up titanium and click "menu" then "batch" and scroll down to the "restore" section. I always do "restore missing apps with data".
Just remember when you make a selection (click run), nothing happens right away, you always go to a screen that shows you what is being backed up or restored. So don't be afraid to click "run"
I have never used titanium backup and would like to confirm something. If you backup system settings, you can restore the all the shortcuts, apps, folders, etc. on the screens? Also, if using titanium backup, I should probably disable the automatic download by Google of all my installed programs, right, when you first reboot the new ROM? Thanks and sorry if I am asking something obvious. I am thinking of upgrading to das bafm 1.7 from 1.6.3.

i tried to take a stock rom(KG5) and take everything out of it.
by everything i mean to take everything im not using(from the stock rom-which is the most[prefer a lot of 3rd party apps])
when i flashed it without all these things i automatically restored data from the CMW backup i did.
the result is wicked!! but...
here is my qustion:
what kind of apps the restore data actually restore. i know it restored the launcher im using(because i eraced the TW LAUNCHER from the CMW file)and my other apps but does it restore all of the samsung apps?samsung APK's?
i figure its not because going to SYSTEM\APPS shows no sing of the other APK but i might be wrong.
i wanted to share it with other people but i figured that if it restore other APK or SAMSUNG apps it's useless. does it?
thanks for the help.
I would think when you do a backup in CWM it will back up exactly what you have on the phone at the time.
If you flash a new rom then restore from CWM, all you are going to do is write over your new rom and replace whatever was on your phone at the time you made your backup.
you didnt understood.
i ment that i did advanced restore---restore data and not a whole restore option(or restore system option).
i did changed the rom, kernel and modem(it didnt restore it from the old backup) but im not sure about the actual system files
I am also interested in this so i dont make another thread on the subject.
So using CWM restore, what does restore data and restore system actually restore .
Thx for your time.
data restore restores your /data partition
It is all user apps that you have installed and most settings.
System restore restores all apps that is preinstalled on the phone/in the rom that you have backed up.
So if you flash another rom, and then only restore data in advaced restore you will only restore your own apps from market or manually installed.
So i will get my own apps back and the settings i had before .
Thx alot man.
Not all settings, but all your app settings.
Most system settings are stored under /system
Like wifi, apn and stuff like that.
Honestly, I own a license for Titanium Backup and I use it, but I don't think I get the full power of the program, because I can't figure out how to properly restore my apps from backups when I flash a new ROM.
Of the two methods to restore via CWM or Titanium better?
Last time I flashed, I couldn't figure out how to restore using either method because I couldn't find the backups.
I tend to keep them on my external SD, since its 32 GB.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
if you know how to make a back-up thats a good start.Heres what i do but if some-one has a better idea thats cool. After flashing and to re-install all apps with data go into titanium and press menu on your phone so that a pop-up menu appears with a whole list of options.Select "batch" and scroll down to you see the RESTORE section.Select RUN were it says "restore all apps with data".Choose and install.Later go back to the pop-up menu at the begining where you selected batch but this time select MORE and then select "clean up dalvik cache".Ive never had problems that way and always had apps and data re-installed.
EDIT:all back-ups by default go to internal-sd.To be re-installed they have to be there also. You can pass them to the external as a copy but to
re-install they have to be on the internal-sd.
-I am using Titanium backup pro right now.
-Previously i was on mwakious and backed up all apps using Titanium Backup (346 apps + data).
-Flashed a sense 4.0 rom.
-All apps gone.
-Installed Titanium Backup and clicked restore apps + data.
-Had to install all the 346 apps one by one...(Time taken about 1-2 hours ! :/ )
So my question is IS THERE A WAY TO RESTORE MY APPS + DATA FAST...NOT INSTALL ONE BY ONE...LIKE HOW IT BACKS UP MY APPS....
Also i backed up the mwakious rom using 4ext recovery...Can anyone tell if now i restore that backup will it be with the apps ???
Q-2 ( ) :- Which according to you is the best aosp rom for gsm evo 3d ?

buy the pro version...
First off, you should never backup and restore ALL apps with Titanium, especially when switching roms. You should only backup downloaded apps, not system apps. System apps vary with every rom, and restoring them with another rom will cause a lot of problems, as well as take forever. As mentioned above, the Pro version does batch backup and restore.

That's a nandroid backup, i.e. a complete system image. If you restore that, it restores the rom and all apps, just like it was when you made the backup.
titanium
Batch backup/restore icon in Titanium backup pro is located in the top right corner of your screen.
What I like is the option under titanium, press the menu buttoon, choose extract from nandroid backup.
From there you have options for data + app or whatnot, and after you hit the checkmark. Auto installs and never had a problem.
Just need a nandroid and your done, always extract my same apps from previous nandroid backups.
I tried checking guides and using search but found nothing, this may be stupid question but when trying new rom or patching newer version of rom which requires wipe all things are reset and apps are gone. So is there program to save settings and all the apps and then after wipe restore them so everything would be like before wiping?

Yes, you can make a Nandroid backup "it saves all setting apps" you installed even The alarm clock that you setted to go to school:
1- Go to CWM" Clockworkmod Recovery menu"
2- Backup and Restore
3- and u will have a bunch of choices (Backup to internal or External SDcard) (Restore from internal or external sdcard)
after you choose wait for the device to complete backup and then reboot, the next time you want everything as it was perfectly you just have to restore the Nandroid backup that you made.
Important : DONT EVER CHANGE NANDROID BACK FOLDER NAME because MD5 checksum recognize only the folder name that was created during the backup.
Hope this helps !

Thanks alot! I always though that cwm's backup and restore was for ROM
Should i advanced restore and restore data only, wont it restore the whole "older" rom too if you make complete restore?
Using nandroid backups to restore data after flashing is a bad way to do so, because it does exactly that - restores all the apps and settings, which essentially equals to a no-wipe. Use Titanium Backup and backup only user apps

Titanium backup backups apps+settings, so u wont lose any progress on games, even facebook and twitter remain all the same, no need to log back in after restoring the apps. And for your launcher, im using nova launcher and in settings i can make a backup of my homescreens etc. So if i do a full wipe i restore my apps with TB and the nova launcher backup and everything is back to as it was before the wipe! Hope this helps
