WARNING... Proceed at ur own risk... this will break root...
Okay... so i have gotten enough complaints about me having this being unfair and i guess i was trying to be the "overly protective mother" of the slide community... So i have decided to release this and let u guys run wild with it... That should end discussion on whether my initial choice was right... I do this with a GIANT DISCLAIMER: THIS WILL IN FACT BREAK YOUR ROOT!! I am in no way responsible for anything u do with this, what happens to ur device or if ur girlfriend breaks up with u ect... So with that said... here u guys go... have fun with it and those who do flash it post some noticed changes/results.... CR
Instructions: DL the package, unzip the "nothing" folder... rename "OTAPkg.zip" to update.zip and put it on the root of ur SD card... apply this update in stock recovery, reboot, done...
OTAPkg
and i just got my slide rooted 10 mins ago lol !! do u know if this makes it easier to read adb in recovery?
I would NOT flash this if i were u... it will kill root and contains an untested recovery.... If u want the latest and greatest, grab the radio update from this in my other thread.... CR

Dude...this BREAKS YOUR ROOT. That means once you do it, not only are you unrooted, you can't reroot as of yet. So no, it doesn't make it easier to read adb in recovery.

no it does not. it was just stated that it breaks your root. it puts a new recovery that patches the current way to root!
as stated to you before, i'm not applying this. however i was curious to something and had a question.
you say to rename to "update.zip" and place on root of sd. i already have a file named such in that location (i'm assuming it's clockwork). would i place the ota there for the time being since it is only needed to boot to stock recovery? and then when done, replace clockwork update.zip?
also, poking around in the files, i noticed a new or updated mytouch music file. it was the only one that stood out to me, as i know nothing about the other files lol.
new radio it is !!!! hey go easy i don't ask much on here cause i have common sense just one of those maybe questions !! lol !!!

yes, if ur rooted, which i know u are , then the update thats on the root of ur SD is CW Mod... IF u were to flash this, just back up ur update.zip from ur card and put it in a folder, then put this OTA on the card in its place and apply accordingly... CR
PS: Dont do it lol...
Am I the only one waiting to see how long it takes for someone to "HELLLLLP I lost root!" in here? lol
i tried to install but it says assert failed E:Error i /sdcard/update.zip (Status 7) install aborted
Removed, thought I was in the thread about the new radio. Do NOT apply this if you're rooted.

Rename it to update without the .zip. It should work then.
its not update.zip.zip its just update.zip also i dont hve clockworkmod i un rooted also im on Champion build,... will that effect anything
migueltherocker said:
Flash it from ClockworkMod recovery, named the way it was when you downloaded, don't rename it to update.zip
Then in ClockworkMod, press install zip from sd card, go to the radio update, select it, click yes, and wait a few seconds. It will tell you to reboot to finish installation. Press the back button, select reboot, and it will finish installing. Give it 2-3 minutes to finish installing.

that would be the method to flash the radio update... if ur trying to flash this full one the process will work but ur gonna lose root

Then yes, the person above us is right. update.zip, from stock recovery just select apply update.zip. It should work, but I can't really test it out for you since I'm rooted.
I ran the update.zip it worked 100%
i cant flash this so i tried to get into clockwork but the root method doset work for some reason
Its a patch update... ur build cant be the champion because it patches UP from 1.27.531 to 1.35.531.... ur current build is 1.18.531.... u need to update to the release software then apply this...

if i'm on stock rooted and need to unroot, would i need to flash the eng build first then this image or just this? or is it also possible by just a factory reset?

No need to go to the eng build. As to go to the eng build you would use another img file.

Thanks Bro I was stuck on the T-mobile boot screen and this image worked. The one from eugene373 does not work it says something like newer or older version and it fails
Thanks wesgarner I would start a new thread and make it a sticky
also thanks eugene373 for all of the roms without you I would have never got my mt3g but for some reason wesgarners worked and yours didnt.
It might be cause I took out my sim card when I used wesgarners i never removed my sim card when using yours, it my need to be a added step.
Thanks

wes do we follow the same instructions as eugene listed?
Ok I'm a little confused. So in order to use this esprimg we need to repeat the same steps again that we did for the eng build or can we simply just put this in the root of the sd card and go into bootloader?
This is the Rom that was On all the TMO employee before Launch!
If you need or have to ask, then likely this wont be much good for you, it's just another Alt. Factory image we have if you want to play with it.. Nothing more
I know it just takes you back to factory but I'd like to know exactly how to do it if ever need be...
Use Wes Rom he Posted..
Regarding the Instructions, I posted them in the OP

I understand what you mean and how to use this rom but when I was stuck on the Mytouch boot screen I am unable to use adb to push.
With wes image i just had to place it in the sdcard and load into Fastboot mode with Volume Down button and Power and it loaded all of the images and took me back to stock.
Either way thanks eugene373 I think that you are so knowledgeable with these device that's its harder for average person like me to follow thanks again

I am new to the whole rooting of android phones so please don't haze me too badly for potentially asking a stupid question;
I was successful in rooting my mytouch 3g slide and installed slidemr5 rom onto it. I did not like how light the rom was and some other general things i wasn't expecting so i found this thread and used this rom to revert back to the factory settings and it worked great (thanks eugene and wes). I was under the impression i would be using my stock rom and the phone would still be rooted but when I go to install apps that require root it says that I am not on a rooted phone. Is this normal or did I do something incorrectly? If it's normal than is there a way for me to have this build/rom and the phone still be rooted? Again I apologize for asking a dumb question, I've made it pretty far in this entire process w/o having to post on a forum yet..
hi... this post is for those who wants to root the mytouch quickly and easily without even using a computer. these directions will be step by step, because i know how frustrating it is when someone gives a broken step expecting you to fill in the blanks.
note
im not responsible for what happens to your phone. i am simply showing you hope when all else fails. now lets get started.
ALL CREDIT GOES TO CLOCKWORK FOR HIS UNBELIEVABLE CONTRIBUTION TO THE ANDROID COMMUNITY. THANK YOU
first things first, you need a mytouch slide, your phone charging, rom manager free from the android market, universal androot which i will post the link below, and finally a custom rom from xda developers. pick anyone you like preferably cyanogen mod.
step 1. take the custom rom you downloaded from either your pc or from your phone: pc-> if you downloaded it off your pc, then you need to connect your phone to your pc and put the custom rom file on the root of your sd. you dont have to rename it, just leave as is. phone-> if you downloaded it off your phone, then i hope you heard of astro file manager from the market?! you need that to explore your sd card from your phone and find the custom rom on your downloads folder, and edit, move, to the root of your sd card. then paste.
step 2. now you need to get the universal androot apk from the link below. once you download it, make sure you put it anywhere on your phones sd card. once it's there, use astro once more to find that apk on your sd card and install it by clicking on it.
step 3 now all you need is rom manager free from the android market. i hope that you know how to find and install it.
now that you are all situated, the real part begins, and i will also explain why we are doing it this way along the process okay.
step 4 open up the universal androot apk on your phone and it should look pretty simple. the only thing you do here is make sure that root temporary(unroot after reboot) is checked. then hit root . you should get a sucess and the superuser apk showing up in your app drawer. if yes then proceed to step 5.
step 5 now that you have temporary root, this will give you permission to use root apks until reboot. luckily i found out that rom manager has the ability to flash clockwork recovery while your phone is still on. well this is what your going to do. open up rom manager, and the very top option is "flash Clockwork Recovery" hit this and it should install it. after that click on "install rom from sd card." find your custom rom that you put on here from before, and click on it, then check both boxes: backup existing rom, and wipe data and cache, and hit ok. now hit ok to go into recovery. if you get a superuser request at this point then congratulations, its working. allow it , and proceed to step 6 .
step 6 now your phone is restarting and should back up the system and start installing the custom rom. if for some reason it doesnt install right there, and takes you to clockwork recovery(blue words), then go to step 7. if not then step 8
step 7 if you are in clockwork recovery and dont know what the heck youre at, well in short, your at a screen where your allowed to install any rom meant for the mytouch slide including the 2.2 froyo. yay! navigation is simple if you know how. volume buttons are for navigation up and down, and the camera button on the right bottom is for selecting, while the power button at the top of the phone is to go back one. got it ? all you want to do is intall your custom rom if you havent yet. you might first want to do the wipe data/ factory reset, to make sure everything goes smoothly on your new rom. after that go back to the screen with all the options, and go to install zip for sdcard. then it is important to choose zip from sdcard, as i have no idea what the apply sdcard:update.zip will do to your phone. after you click choose update, you should be in a familiar area: your sdcard. find your custom rom and install it. it will work if its a complete and compatible rom for your phone. once done hit reboot system now and presto step 8.
step 8 ur done lol. enjoy your new rom. misc. if you ever want to go back into clockwork recovery, then go into your normal recovery by power + volume down while your phone is turned off. then hit recovery option. youll notice that you are at the normal recovery. push power+volume up for new set of options. theres an option call apply zip update. click on the and boom, you should pop up in clockwork recovery.
universal androot since i am a new user, i cannot post links but here is an attachment, and if your not signed in then you will find the program by going to 4shared.com and searching for UniversalAndroot-1.6.2-beta.apk uploaded by chrisjcj27. thanks and good luck

Followed your steps completely. After i get root and flash CW Recovery, I go to install the custom rom and make a Nandroid backup.........it restarts phone and take me to the phone with a question mark (i think thats what it was) and then reboots normally into the stock rom. It says its failing to installl the update package which im assuming is CW Recovery.

ill go back and re check everything. this worked for me 3 times over. gimme a sec. ill make this work. sorry for the inconvenience oh by the way. can anyone confirm that they have tried this on a mytouch that hasnt recieved the new ota update. this is the only phone i have tested it on. im not sure if it has anything to do with it.
Tried it about 6 times now. Even downloaded terminal to ensure i have root before carrying on. Its not letting the update.zip that Rom Manager installs on the SD card run at all. Its saying its not signed and then it fails?
Androot is only able to give us a temporary root, therefore the bootloader is still locked and it will not allow us to actually get into CW at all. Correct?

Can't get it installed, wont work. I'm to dumb. And I really wanna upgrade to CM7 bad!
So I have two options... 1. Use KDZ or 2. Pay someone to put CM7 on it for me.
KDZ is the only thing I can use successfully. I read all tutorials but never succeed. And I don't want to take risk to try and Brick my phone again.

First of all can I verify your phone version? If it's 2.2.1/2.2.2
You can easily root your phone without downgrading it
Firstly you would want to root the phone. http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1044765
Download Gingerbreak
- Make sure USB debugging is enabled(Can be enabled through settings)
- Make sure you have an SD card (formatted and) inserted
- Place the app onto the root of your SD card
- Open the APK, press the root button
- Wait a few minutes. If there are no problems, the device will reboot (note that the reboot itself can take like 10 minutes due to cache wipe)
Congratulations the phone is rooted.

Thanks this tutorial looks easy. i'll try this one, although i did find someone that might do it for me.
Try ungaze's mini-guide for flashing recovery, you wont find anything easier...

It might throw an error of not finding a file while running the script, dont worry, just let the phone reboot
When i was trying to boot into recovery mode it failed and it gave a superuser error. At this moment i had leedroid rom evo 3d gsm that is s-off. When i still had stock rom i never had this error but it seems like it was there all the time with the leedroid rom. Well so i was trying to boot into recovery. Tried it with power button and volume down button at same time, but this was failing. So i did it with rom manager. I used rom manager before when i installed leedroids rom. But now it didnt boot into recovery. I tried installing superuser again but it didnt seem to make any difference. with rootchecker i checked if i had root acces but it seemed i lost root acces :S. after retrying a couple of times my phone didnt boot back to the leedroid rom. I was trying a lot of things, with and without sd and sim. After about 20 reboots i tried power and volume down to go to bootloader and know it loaded. At bootloader start it loads some things and i saw no image blalbla dont really know what it meant. I tried to go to recovery but it wont boot, i get a white screen with htc and wont load anything. I tried all other options in bootloader too, to check if anything works but even a factory reset failed.
For me it looked like somehow my rom is f*cked and now i cant go to recovery mode somehow. I have rom on my sd so if i could go to recovery i could still flash. Does anyone know how i still might get to recovery mode or is there another way to still flash another rom. Maybe there are some people who can tell me more about leedroids rom, are there more people who got trouble with root acces?
anyone who might be able to help plz let me know, im so frustrated right now because i cant use my phone, i even need to think about a way to wake me up this morning because i always used my phone for alarm
That is a very easy to fix problem. First, download Clockworkmod recovery for your device (evo 3D GSM) or another recovery.
CWM 5.2.0 Shooteru: http://www.mediafire.com/?5kdr0c7xux2c64p
After download/finding the recovery, rename it to PG86DIAG. (or whatever it tries to scan for in bootloader. If its 2 things, it is the bottom one)
Place the file on your SD card somehow. (in your case you would need to take out the SD card and put it in another phone/adapter)
Boot into bootloader with volume down + power and it should scan for the file. When it asks if you want to do the update, press yes. After the recovery is installed, press power to reboot.
Do a battery pull while you are on the splash screen. Reboot back into bootloader with vol down + power and click on recovery. Wipe everything and flash the rom again. Reboot and you should be able to load the ROM with root and everything.
thx, im so happy to here your solution. Know lets search for my sd adapter, i know its somewhere . I will let you know later if it has worked

You're welcome! I'll be watching the thread.
Oke i did what you said but when i boot into bootloader nothing has changed. It doesnt ask if i want to update anything. And if i go to recovery and try to boot it keeps hanging at the white screen with htc
btw, you said this:after download/finding the recovery, rename it to PG86DIAG. (or whatever it tries to scan for in bootloader.
Do you mean it might be other name i have to make it? How do i know this?

It is probably a different name.
When you boot into bootloader, it scans for 2 files and says not found, right?
The second file it scans for is the one you want to rename it to.
hmke, ye it scans for files but its going fast so cant see it very well. I see about 5 things get scanned
oke first thing it scanned is called PG86DIAG.zip, 2nd is PG86DIAG.nbh, 3th is PG86IMG.zip, 4th is PG86IMG.nbh, 5th is PG86IMG.tar, 6th is PG86IMG.aes, 7th is PG86IMG.enc
All this things are scanned and then it says no image
From what I can read if you lost root then you are s-on on the bootloader right? if so installing recovery through bootloader wont work... check if you have S-on or S-off on bootloader if you have s-on you will need to use a official update to restore your phone...

Do PG86IMG. Also, if it says S-On at the top of the bootloader, you will need to get S-Off with revolutionary again.

No im still s-off, but when my phone was less ****ed as it is now and i could still boot normaly, i already had some strange things with leedroid rom. superuser never seems to be working well. i couldnt give root acces, it gave an error when i try. even through root chekker it says no root, but i thought that might have something to do with superuser.

Instead of renaming to PG86DIAG, rename to PG86IMG and see if that works.

do you mean name the file PG86IMG and not PG86DIAG?
lol your answer came faster
Oke still no difference, but it is chekking for a .zip file right? Im not sure if its .zip right now, is this the reason why its failing?
Ummmmm I dont see any other choice but this... you can follow this tutorial to get your phone working...
Code:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1262457
You are going to need to revert back to stock
I had the same problem a month back and was able to fix it.
Also don't worry if you can still get to the boot loader its fixable.

So it acts as if there is no .zip at all? Like it says "No image found"?
Double check if its a zip and the file is named properly. If it doesn't recognize it, there is a problem with your SD card/bootloader.
Oke when i put the .zip in a clockworkmod folder it didnt see it but now it shows parsing behind the PG86DIAG.zip and the PG86DIAG.img says no image or wrong image. All other thing still say no image
I tried the .zip you uploaded and now it could load the image , trying to flash now

I see what you're doing wrong. Don't put the zip in a clockworckmod folder. Put it on the root of your sd card.
(just directly on the sd card)

Good catch on that one.
If you don't put it directly on the root of your sd card then the boot loader will not be able to find the zip and flash it.
Oke thx, i finally booted into recovery . I first had to delete the .zip again because it was trying to update again when i didnt. Im so happy now , couldnt done this without your help so i will push the thx button few times^^

I have a EVO 4g and im trying to root it. the other week i updated my phone. so idk if that has anything to do with why my phone is being difficult to root. but my brother had this phone before me. (he now has iPhone). he had it rooted but factory reset it before giving it to me. i downloaded superuser app from the market and cant use it so im sure my phone isn't rooted. I've tried using the unrevoked method and when i run the program i get a failed error mesage asking is my firmware too new? and i notice sometimes i boot to HBOOT menu the phone checks for some PC36IMG files that arent there. here's what on my phone when i look at HBOOT:
-Revolutionary-
Supersonic EVT3 Ship S-OFF
HBOOT - 6.16.1002
MICROP-041f
TOUCH PANEL - ATMEL224_16ab

I've read around on different forums that i could just need to use the recovery tool and update it and reboot. im not sure what files i need although PC36IMG.zip seems to pop up alot. and i want to make sure i download and install the right version of any files im gonna use to avoid Bricking my phone! so im trying to be extra sure. I dont know if i need to treat it like im rooting for the first time ever or maybe update some files to get root permissions? Anyone with any info. Plz help!
Thank you in advance!!

you are still rooted
factory reset wouldn't get rid of root
go to playstore. download super user, then download rootchecker
I bet you are rooted
