[Resolved] hd2 rom wont flash!!!! - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

ive been trying to flash an hd2 rom it goes in to active sync, then to the boot loader screen and it has things ive never seen before
Bootloader screen:
PB8112 SS-B3
SPL--2.08 HSPL 8G XE
0X05
CotullaHSPL 0x50
instead of going in to the percent screen it just stays in the boot loader screen says USB but on the rom flashing it says "The update utility cannot connect to your PDA Phone. Please check that your USB cradle/cable is connected properly between the PC and your PDA phone.
Check the following:
1.The Pda phone is connected to the USB cradle/cable
2.The USB cradle/cable is connected to the PC"
The problem is that IT IS CONNECTED TO THE PC AND MY PHONE SAYS USB BUT IT GIVES ME THAT ERROR ="( please help
what do i do

Why not try flashing from the memory card? It's easier then using the pc sync method. You might want to be sure you have a ROM that is correct to the HD2 you have as well.

how do i use the memory card method, please point me to a tutorial. is it riskier than the pc sync method? sorry i dont want to brick my phone. yeah its a good working rom ive flashed it a few times

I found my problem!
i didnt have windows mobile device center installed my brother uninstalled it about 4 days ago -.-
i had found it odd seeing as i always flashed roms and i never had a brick
thank you for the help wilbadger

USB loses connection.....cannot upgrade.

Hello, i'm trying to upgrade my device but facing a weird problem. The WMDC works fine and i can sync my device. When i run the RUU, it analyzes the rom and put the device in bootloader mode....
as soon as the device enters the bootloader, the usb loses the connection and says "cannot recognize the device" or "drivers not found" etc....and the RUU gives the error of "cannot connect to the device. make sure...."
I have tried this with the AthenaUnlocker as well as the AthenaWrapper. I'm currently on SPL 1.1 and want to upgrade to 1.2
Please help!
I have the same problem!
I want to install HSPL on my device. I cannot install this via SD Card so i tried it with USB. But after the bootloader the connenction was lost. Many times...
Can somebody tell me how to fix this problem?
Thanks
Edet: My device is a HTC HD2
This might not fit your problem, but ...
... try to connect your device to a PC/laptop with USB 1.1 - with my Ameo I have many "connection loss" problems with USB 2.0 speed, which occure only on heavy (data) load on syncing.
Disabling USB2.0 is possible on some machines within the BIOS.
If you got no PC/laptop with USB1.1 you can disable the USB 2.0 related driver in the Windows Device Manager (it works for me, in general). Therefor open the device manager and select the "View" menu -> devices by connection (or similar). Now search for the Athena entry attached to the listed USB hardware. Disable the "most-upper" USB controller the Athena is attached to.
OK, the last description might be confusing, but try.
Good luck (as this solution fits to your problem, as I am not sure)
What worked for me

I just spent the weekend trying to unlock my Athena and was having the exact same problem... USB would disconnect, errors 202, 267 . I finally was able to flash the Olipro bootloader, but had a hard time unlocking the radio. My device showed no radio under its properties, so I could not tell what radio version I had. Pressing "phone" would not bring the dialup screen. After so much sweat, I had to put it apart, only to find that the radio board connection to the motherboard was improperly seated, thus was having a bad connection. Once the connection was properly seated, the phone booted up to the emergency call screen, notified that there was no SIM card detected and when I looked in the device properties, the radio version was listed!. I then proceeded to unlock and flash the radio and this time the connection was not lost, the process completed without a glitch.
Hope that helps...

HD2 not died, but... I have try all. Help, thanks.

EDIT ON JULY 5, 2010:
AFTER 30 TRYES on 2 days my pda has only enter bootloader mode on two times... and when I connected to my pc didnt appear "USB" on screen.
any help will be grateful. Please. Thanks.
EDIT ON JULY 2, 2010:
MY PDA DOESNT START THE BOOTLOADER
I have make HSPL 1.42 with "success" because "we hacked it " appeared on screen BUT...
that has been the las thing that I have seen on the screen. Now I cannot switch on, neither start in bootloader, and when I connect to pc and I turn on normally the pda in my pc I can see like "new hardware found... qualcomm..." (while on PDA is black screen).
I have try to left the HD2 without battery during seconds, minutes and hours before try again.
I have try to left the HD2 charging all night before try again.
I have try with other batteries (I have 3).
I have try with different with windows 7 and windows XP (for looking what happens if I connect HD2 with black screen.
ANY HELP????
MY PDA DOESNT START THE BOOTLOADER
on JULY 1 I SAID:
(Sorry for my bad english) I have been for 2 complete days trying to solve before post this new thread. Now, the explanation:
I have a Spanish Movistar company HD2.
To enter in bootloader mode I have to be a few seconds (or minutes, it depends...) without battery. When I get into bootloader mode I see:
_______________
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.0000 8G XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x40
Serial
_______________
So I supose that it isn´t the HSPL installed.
Sometimes when I simply switch on I see HTC logo with white background (I supose that is because it has the task29 made.
When I left the device without battery few seconds (or minutes) and I get into again and I switch on I see too the HTC logo with white background.
I have try to flash some roms through microSD card and the result is allways the same: It changes the screen into a grey and I see "Loading..." but it stays like this infinitely (I have try to wait more than 20 minutes). I have try this with original Movistar Company ROM, original HTC ROM, some radios (more than 6 types), some coocked ROMS (including arthemis, BSB beast, Energy), and the result is allways the same, stays "Loading..."
I have try to flash through PC. CustomRUU Recognizes the device but when it starts to update the device doesnt change screen or sometimes looks like pixelated screen, and on the PC appears like new hardware found (qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM) and update through pc doesnt start. I have try too when It appears like new hardware found to remove the battery and start on bootloader mode, but update neither starts.
I have try to make HSPL (2 and 3) and the result is allways the same: recognizes the device and on bootload screen apears "USB" in the white part. HSPL tells me what SPL I have ( 2.08.0000|| ) and let me choose 2.08.HSPL BUUUUT when I push continue in the device nothing happens, on the PC appears like new hardware found (qualcomm CDMA Technologies MSM) and HSPL gives me an error (sometimes one sometimes other):

telling "some radios (more than 6)" I mean that I have try with more than 6 types of radios, but yes, I have try with radios from 2.04 to 2.08.
Thanks Nakazul
but first you need to hspl. you cant flash any of those roms or radios without hspl
enter bootloader (three coloured screen)
connect to USB, wait for 'serial' to become 'USB' - if pc tries to say it is a qualcomm, change USb ports. Use one around teh back of the PC, not one in the front casing.
run hspl ( 2 or 3, doesnt matter which) pick an spl that ends with .hspl, so
2.08.0000 - No, stock, it wont work
2.08.hspl - yes, now you can flash.
now run task 29 (use the shadrac repack)
enter bootloader again, confirm that your spl says 2.08.hspl
flash your rom over USB. Do not use sd card (using sd card is probably how you got spl 2.08.0000 on a non tmous phone)

First, thanks.
I connect to USB, "serial" become to "USB" like allways (qualdcomm hardware never appears when conected with bootloader without start the HSPL or CustomRUU). I start HSPL 2 and I choose "2.08.hspl" like allways. I push continue and PC tells me "new hardware, qualcomm...." (allways on that momment, when push "continue" after choose "2.08.hspl") I change the USB cable to another port and automatically HSPL gives me an error and I only can acept and the HSPL software closes. I have try to change USB port before push "acept" but nothing. Allways appears "new hardware, qualcomm..." con PC while PDA stays with bootloader screen apearing like connected through USB.
Hope you understand all, I really dont know how to explain better.
strange. Is it the stock usb cable?
I think you should try a different pc.

I have try on 2 pc-s. One cpu with windows 7, the other with windows XP.
I have another HTC HD2 (this of Vodafone) and the cable works perfectly. (The died HD2 isnt mine of a friend.)
PD: Shouldn´t it be able to load correctly the stock rom through microSD?
Thanks!
sorry, i dont know what to suggest next. I'll sleep on it and let you know if anything occurs to me.
Thoughts for now, , your original stock rom is probably failing because i 'think' stock spl 2.x will not allow itself to be downgraded to 1.x A few people got stuck before hspl2 arrived.
How about trying a goldcard, with the tmous 2.13 stock rom? that would change the spl to 2.10.0000 and you could try with hspl3, , it could be that the spl is messed up (you shouldn't have been flashing with sd card, it messes with the spl/hspl, even when the flash fails, hspl will still be removed)
have you allowed the qualcomm dirbvers to install when in bootloader mode?
when in bootloader the AMSS is taking over connection so its the snapdraon drivers that your pc is trying to install, which are the ocrrect ones.
Allow your computer to install them, and try it again

"cant start the bootloader mode" Why not?
Can you just do a reset by poking the reset button (button near battery) while holding volume down? That won't bring up the bootloader??

I dont know why but... I´m during few minutes (I have try during hours too) without battery, I put the battery inside the PDA and I push power button while holding volume down (like allways I have done to enter bootload) and nothing happens. I try again with reset button and nothing.
On both ways the HD2 makes a short vibration but doesnt bring up the bootloader.
When I connect to PC and I turn on the pda normally, pushing the power button (whithout hold the volume down button) I can see on PC like "new hardware found... qualcomm....", but the PDA screen its black. (I have try to connect other HD2 and works perfectly on the same PC with the same cable).
Thanks to all.
FYNALLY AFTER "WE HACKED IT " TO HSPL 1.42 I CANNOT START THE PDA NEITHER THE BOOTLOADER.
I have try lefting the HD2 without battery for a seconds, minutes and more than 8 hours... I have try too with the reset button. Nothing happens, I only can ear the little vibration that allways make. Nothing more...
May be to exist any solution with that 3 pins that are between SIM and microSD card? any connection with them? I dont know...
Will be this the first died HD2?... hope that no... but...
ANY HELP??
THANKS.
I have been 2 days trying to turn on the pda on bootloader mode. I have been lefting without battery during hours before trying to turn on but I has turn on (on bootloader mode) only 2 times and fail when connect to pc.
.
Somebody knows why I cannot start my pda on bootloader (remember it hasn´t any rom inside) in except of 2 times by 30 tryes?
Thanks and sorry for my bad english.

[Q] No OS on HD2 found

Hello all... tried to be a little geek and installed a custom Rom (Artemis V32 with radio 2.12.50.02_2) and that went ok. Then I copied an Android version to my sd card, and that went also ok.
Then I installed a bootloader so I could choose Android or WM, that went ok too.
But since then I had some regular crashes in Android and also with WM.
I decided to install a stock Rom (found via Usenet; Stock ROM (NLD) 1.72.172.0 met radio 2.07.51.22_2 en SPL-1.66.0000 ) and things went bad.
I have tried all kinds of things so resolve the issue:
- Put the stock rom on the sd card (formatted fat32, size 4gig) and renamed it to loeimg.nbh and started it up with the volume button down: no success
Message:
PB1100 HX-BC
SPL-1.66.0000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x40
- Connected the hd2 with the original cable to my pc (Windows 7 Ultimate, and tried also WinXP SP3) and tried to install it via the .exe file from another stock rom I downloaded via the HTC website. No succes, the software starts-up, I can click yes, next, click yes again at "I completed the steps indicated above" and then I get the screen current information about your pda phone Image version does not mention any version at this point.
If I then click on update I get the screen that says from image version: to image version.
The from version is not filled in, so I think the fault has something to do with this.
After I clicknext 2 times I get the progress screen, but nothing happens then anymore. It keeps showing 0%
If anyone can help me out with this it would appreciate it a lot! And if you need any additional info, please let me know...
Thanks in advance,
Friendly greetings...
you no longer have hspl installed. It was removed by the (failed) stock rom from sd card flash attempt. In bootloader, see your spl ends .0000? that tells you hspl is gone.
Manually enter bootloader, connect usb, count to 20, run hspl2(right click run as administrator), choose 2.08.hspl.
When it completes, re enter bootlaoder (hold down vol as the phone restarts at 100%), wait for bootloader, wait for the word serial -> usb, run your rom flash over usb.
Thanks for the quick reply... as soon as I'm back home I'm going to try it out.. I'll post the result here..
something similiar happened to me some months ago..
should work
DN41
oh, and the reason the "from version" is blank is because that is read from the registry, but we put the phone in bootloader ourselves first so it can't see the registry. that's also why when you flash radios you see rom version info there. it can be ignored.
Do not forget to remove loeimg.nbh from your memory card before trying to flash under windows.
Thanks for the reactions... great to know I am not alone in this...
I performed the actions as described and I got the message "we hacked it"
I then tried to install a stock rom I downloaded but my phone turned off then at 11%
I have the idea that my battery is not loading anymore as I can't see the orange led burning when connected to the adapter/computer.
Ordered a new battery yesterday evening and will receive it normaly/hopefully today by mail. Then I will try again and share the results.
Thanks again all for the great support so far...
check the battery pins closely, hundreds of people have bent them poppng the battery out.
Ok, checked the connection of the pins.. these are ok I think.
Battery-led is still not showing went connected to usb.
So now my screen states the following:
PB81100 HX-BC
SPL-2.08.HSPL 8G XE
0x05
CottulaHSPL 0x40
What rom can I now install? Only an official one?
I tried to download an official rom from the htc website (after inserting my serial), but when I run the
RUU_Leo_Vodafone_NL_1.72.172.0_Radio_CRC_Signed_15.32.50.07U_2.07.51.22_2_Ship it shows a message that the file is corrupt.. and this for about 6 times now...
I feel the noob-level is rising extremely now...

did you do anything to your device ?
i'm asking because i have the same problem and didn't do anything at that time, i had a few freezes which forced me to remove the battery and now its stuck on the white screen, i can't flash anything either. I wasn't trying to either before this happened to me, i had winmo 6.5.x running for months, pretty much untouched since i only use android now.
.) i did a hard reset, which went really fast and did nothing.
.) tried hspl 3 ( it says succesfully flashed, but when i load the bootloader the previous version is being displayed there.
.) tried to flash:
-stock rom from sd, i get stuck in the bootloader "serial"
basicly it just does nothing...
i used a 2gb mirco sd card for that, formatted in fat32. stock rom extracted and renamed the RUU_signed.nbh to leoimg.nbh. volume down + reset
-stock rom from pc/usb connection, error/timeout at 0% saying connection problems.
im running out of idea's, i got 1 month warranty left, but im afraid that it will do me no good since i used hspl
You need to update your spl to 2.08.hardspl AND you mostlikely need to flash your radio as well.
I found out that i made a mistake while trying to flash from sd, i didn't put the leoimg at the root of the sd so it didn't get detected. I managed to get rid of the white screen after flashing but its nowhere near functional. It also gave me an error during the flash, but it carried on and finished the flash eventually...
Now when i boot winmo it says something about microp mismatch, i tried two different roms to make sure it had nothing to do with the rom i was using, it didn't... i had the same problem with both. So my guess is that something is damaged, at least hspl is gone now so i can make use of my warranty again, for the people that don't have warranty left i hope somebody comes up with a solution, if there is one, everything points to hardware damage from my point of view. Would be interesting to know how your problem developed...! anyway good luck

Yeah sure i can do that, but before i do you need to tell me how you got that white screen in the first place. If it's not because of a failed flash attempt you probably want to keep your phone as it is now, so you can make use of your warranty... hspl makes that impossible!
It's probably a hardware problem, i looked up on that microp mismatch and it looks like a hardware failure, updating your software isn't going to solve that, it might solve the white screen issue, but the phone itself won't be functional. Try to explain what happened so i can give you proper instructions on what to do.
If you can start your phone and enter the bootloader there is no need to sent to service.
Enter bootloader and flash from there HSPL 2.08, and flash radio too.
After that flash MAGLDR and android rom.
guys as i have posted in my last post

With the phone off, press and hold the Volume Down button and then tap the Power button.
You will get a multicoloured screen with the word 'Serial' at the bottom. What else does the screen display?
What country and phone operator is the phone locked to?
if you want to install a custom rom or eventually android you are going to need hspl, there are enough guides and tutorials on how to do that on this forum, search for it.
if you just want to bring the phone back to life, running windows mobile, you can go to the htc website. Go to the support section and select your phone and look for available rom updates for your phone/serial number.
connect your phone to the pc and follow the instructions of the setup and upgrade... if the phone doesn't get detected, extract ruu_signed.nbn from the setup file and rename it to leoimg.nbn
put that at the root of your sd card formatted in fat32 and boot your phone holding down the volume down button. Follow the instructions, when its done you can reboot the phone and hopefully you can make use of it

Not really, i was able to do that and even flash an upgrade on the phone, but not without errors, the phone didn't function properly after the flash, so its very likely that something is damaged in my case. I send my phone to htc so they can repair it.

If you want to install a stock rom you should know what kind of WM has your HD2.
You may not be able to flash any stock rom. There are a lot of versions, regions and it may take some time to try all of them.(http://shipped-roms.com/index.php?category=windows mobile&model=Leo)
If you do not know the version, as you say you have SPL 1.42.
If this is true you can change to HSPL and after that flash any rom you want, and android.
This should solve your problems.
So download the HSPL from the second post. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433)
Enter bootloader connect the USB cable and flash HSPL.Select 2.08 HSPL from the list.
If you succeed. If you check the bootloader you should see something like Cotulla HSPL 2-08.
Now you can flash any rom you want, the same way: download a rom of your choice, enter bootloader, connect usb cable and start the RUU utility.
If you want to flash android you have to upgrade the radio version.(the same way)
Flash MAGLDR.(the same way).
Flash android.(this is different).
If i am wrong, anybody feel free to correct me.
I would say also do a task29 that contains blank .nbh. you must have hspl 2.08 first to run this then install any custom ROM through PC or your branded ROM through SD card it should work. i hope this helps.

[Q] Stuck on Update Failed after attempt to revert to stock ROM via SD

Note: I've seen a few similar threads with a problem like mine, but my HD2 is showing different error messages, so I thought I'd start a new thread to avoid making things worse.
---------------------------------
So I purchased a second hand HTC HD2 pretty cheap. It's the 512HD2 and it came flashed with a MIUI Android with a Samsung Galaxy S2-ish interface. Problem was, the battery got drained way too quickly, even from the most minimal usage, so I though I should flash back to the stock OS and get my problem solved so I could use the HD2 as a primary phone.
Here's what I did:
1. I followed jayceooi's tutorial.
2. I downloaded a ROM Update for HTC HD2 (3.14.405.2) from HTC's Official HD2 download page.
3. I opened up the .exe, got the .nbh, renamed it correctly, put it on the SD card and then verified it's really there with an Android file manager.
4. VolDown + PowerButton and I got to the rainbow menu thing (I know, I'm a noob and I don't know how it's called) then I let go of the keys and got to the update screen.
5. PowerButton - Update begins
6. 30 seconds later, only after about 1/4 of the bar had progressed, I got a black screen, and then a screen that says "Software update failed. Please try again". Afterwards the gray screen saying "Loading... 00028002 not allow". Finally, back to the RGB screen I got:
HX-BC
SPL-3.03.0000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x40
And If i try to enter the boot mode via VolDown+PowerButton I get:
RUUNBH
HX-BC
SPL-3.03.0000 XE
MicroP(LED) 0x05
MicroP(TOUCH) 0x40
Update ROM code error
Please try again
Serial
---------------------------------
Should I try a USB flash or something?
Thanks in advance.
?
Nobody?
Update:
I tried to upgrade from 3.03.0000 SPL to the 3.03.0000 HSPL via USB in the boot mode, but I got a critical error and nothing happened on the device whatsoever - same state as the post above.
Any ideas?
probably wrong stock rom used, (or did you use the phones correct serial to download the rom?)
enter bootloader (three coloured screen)
connect usb
run hspl4
choose 3.03.hspl
back into bootlaoder
connect usb
run the 3.14 rom over usb.
EDIT - just saw your edit about critical error, , ,win7 64bit? try different usb ports, and try a different pc if you have one available, , hspl can be a little picky.

Unfortunately I have only one laptop with a 32 bit Win7, but it's OLD and crapfull of viruses so I'm not risking any failures there.
Do you think it will be safe to HSPL over VMWare (virtual OS environment inside of windows)?
P.S.: Exact model is the HTC HD2 T8585. I checked it via an IMEI checker.
there's a very good chance that hspl wont flash from a virtual machine. (Something about not getting low enough level access to the usb or something).

Ok, in that case I'll probably go over at a friend's house and try an HSPL there. I'll come back with some results as soon as I'm done.
Halfway done?
OK, so I got a good Windows 7 32 bit laptop and tried out HSPL4.exe by DFT. I kept my fingers crossed and, thankfully, I got to the "We hacked it! " screen.
After successfully updating and removing the USB cable, the phone rebooted with the same "Software Update Failed" message, but this time the gray screen showed the Cancel/Allow for the leoimg on the SD. I pressed the power button to attempt a flash, but I got the same issue as last time.
After that, the VolDown + PowerButton STILL showed:
SPL-3.03.0000
Since I'm not that stupid (I hope) I figured that the ROM reverts SPL and Radio to normal and that's why there was no trace of the HSPL, so I went back to the laptop to go at another 3.03.0000 HSPL. This time, after I got the "We hacked it! " screen I cancelled the ROM update and thankfully the RGB screen now reads:
P81100 HX-BC
SPL-3.03.HSPL XE
0x05
CotullaHSPL 0x40
IN SHORT - The HSPL was a success, now if you help me find the right ROM, I would owe you my life!
lol, i draw the line at advising roms, for example ive never used an android rom with sense, or a MIUI rom, and i havent used a winmo rom in about a year,, so it would be unfair of me to guide you.
ROM
Edit - Okay, thanks for all your help!
P.S.: I just ran an Task29 to get rid of the constant Software Update error at each boot and now I can boot into the RGB screen without the RUUNBH error so I think that will make things easier. I'll probably find the ROM myself or ask somewhere else.
Thanks again!!!
thanks

if you were a girl I would kiss you
You saved my day. I was searching for my problem since 3 days and this has solved the problem
Finally Done!
@ParmakSokan - Hey! Looks like I'm not the only one samsamuel helped!
A little update - I finally have the phone in working condition! It is now running the stock Windows Mobile 6.5 specific for O2, since I figured out the device was purchased in the UK.
For anyone interested, I got the ROM from the official library of HD2 ROMs in 4shared, which I believe is held together thanks to xda-developers, so yeah - yet another KUDOS for that!
The HTC Sense UI is simply beautiful and I think I will actually stay with 6.5 for a few more months before considering 7.5 Mango.
P.S.: Moderators can mark the thread as solved.
