[Q] History Manager for 2.2? - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I was on Android v2.1, I was using an application called History Eraser to manage Market history, call log, search history, and browser history.
Are there any similar apps for 2.2? If so, where can I find them? I scoured the market for 'history', 'eraser', 'cleaner', etc. but didn't find anything comparable that cleaned multiple types of history - just single-use applications.

Run the Eris Market Fix out of the market made by team And IRC. Once downloaded, run then reboot.then give the History Eraser search a try.

[Q] Android: SPAM (Star in the Status-Bar)

Hi,
I use Greyblur and I am anoyed by the fact that I get different times a notification for some unwanted ads (not sure if this is Greyblur or any other app).
There is a star in the Status Bar and if you press on the information the browser opens with some unwanted recommendations (I call it SPAM).
So can anybody help to fix this.
Is this a regular Android function (e.g. a interface which every app can use)?
Where I should look to disable this function?
Thanks in advance.
It's not greyblur you must of installed a bad app. Review where you got your apps and be more careful.
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
O.k., thanks.
But is there a way to track this application down?
What would be the procedure to do this; it's impossible to deinstall all apps...
Recomendations for what exactly? Is it Kongregade or app brain or pulse?
If you have time I'd say do this.
Back up with titanium backup
SBF back to stock
Install each app one by one
Sent from my MB860 using XDA Premium App
Before reinstalling one by one, post an appbrain link so i can see what apps you have installed. I can then report back what apps to get rid of before just wiping everything.
there is an app called Share My Apps that will create a list for you of all the apps you have installed. much easier to post than to list them all manually
Hey...,
Many thanks for this input - which is exactly what I wanted.
So you believe it could be one of this apps: Kongregade, App brain or Pulse.
Yes, I use Pulse and App Brain.
After thinking over about the best way, I had an thought...
Would it be possible to freeze selected apps with TITANIUM, to see if the SPAM disappears?
Or would'nt this be a realistic way to check if one of the mentioned apps are causing this behaviour...
Really, to uninstall makes me crazy as you can see the list is long (needs at least 1/2-1 hour to reinstall - without a real guarantee not to reinstall the "bad boy" again...).
And many thanks in advance for going roughly through the app list.

Kongregate appbrain and pulse are all fine apps, but will all recomend new updates in your notification bar, you can change this in settings. In the op you said, ads for unwanted recomendations. I was, and still am unsure if you are refering to irelevant product advertising like a commercial, or if your being recommended flash games because you told Kongregate to notify you of new games (or a similar notification from a dif app). There is a malicious advertising plug in called "airpush" that devs could put in apps to advertise in your notification bar, it has caused a backlash against devs that use it. As far as freezing to test, yes you can, but be careful what you freeze and for this testing purpose maybe one at a time is the best way to tell what app is notifying you.
I will list the apps below that I know are not infected with airpush, all of these apps I use or have used before and they do not have airpush:

I had it happen when I used the android movie download app. It was useless and spammed thee hell out of me.

Thanks for your response.
To be more clear: it is not ONLY product related or update recommendations.
They spam me with commercials from different areas.
But maybe I'll have an eye on it to see what they offer, maybe this is an way to identify the app and make it public + ban.
It would be good to have a public black list...
And last but not least: I was searching, but Airpush (at least what I can see in the market) is not installed. So it's not this app...
Best regards and thanks.
I also had been spammed by the app "Live wallpaper LED" bu DrHU. beware of this app
try scanning your phone with AirPush
it won't block whatever is causing it but it'll identify which app is the culprit and let you uninstall it.
Addons Detector is like that airpush app on steroids... bit more functionality.
Once installed, run a scan. Then choose the bottom filtering option to see who's using airpush.

I had this exact same thing. A little star on the notifcation bar saying I won an Ipad2, and then redirected me to a spam website.
In my case it was actually caused by a Final Fantasy 13 guide app.
I reported the app, deleted it, and it looks like google pulled it from the marketplace.

Addons Detector flagged Zarley for push notification adds.. its never spammed my notif bar ever and it definately doesn't contain the Airpush "virus".
Airpush (which advertises here on xda) offers this type of ad. I can't tell you if its them or not, but check out airpush.com for info on their permanent opt-out feature. I was intrigued by their revenue claims until I saw their methods.

I had the same issue and installed Addons Detector and it found 4 apps using different push notifications. I uninstalled all 4 apps and no pop-ups so far. Thanks
Hey,
I was spammed by Awesome Wallpaper app that way
i noticed you use go launcher. I have noticed that some of the free themes have had airpush built in to them. you might try and use another theme and delete the ones you currently have. This worked for me.

[Q] Google Voice Search Personalized Recognition

I posted this in the General Android Q & A forum without a response so I'll post my question here as well. I have been having issues with Google Voice Search recognizing some of my commands. The main problem is having the app recognize the names of some of my contacts. If the contact has a "normal" name with a "normal" spelling there isn't any problems, but any unique names or spellings do not work. I figured with time the personalized recognition option would remedy this but it has not. After some searching and taking suggestions from XDA and other forums, I decided to post my own topic to see if there is any help to be had.
I have made sure that all of my contacts are synced to the Google servers. The other popular answer is to clear your speech data from the Google dashboard. But I cannot find that option anywhere. The threads I've read say go to the Google Dashboard, scroll down to the Speech section, and click anonymize data.
My Google dashboard does not have a Speech section. I know the personalize speech recognition is on in the voice search app. Does anyone know where this data is in the dashboard or of a reason why it would not being getting saved? The only thing I can think of is that I have my Web Search History turned off, but those two things seem not to be related. Any help would be appreciated.
Go to: https://www.google.com/dashboard/b/0/?hl=en
Sign in then scroll down to Speech.

Thanks for the response, but my Google Dashboard doesn't have a Speech section. When I go to the dashboard the headings I have are:
Accout, Me on the Web, Profile, AdSense, Alerts, Android devices, Buzz, Calendar, Chrome sync, Contacts, Docs, Gmail, Google+, iGoogle, Latitude, Maps, Orkut, Picasa Web Albums, Play Music, Play Store, Reader, Talk, Tasks, Voice, Web History, Webmaster Tools, and YouTube.
Since my original post I have enabled Web History for searches only. Still nothing.
I have the same issue with a few as well. I just created another contact with their contact information but for the name I used a nickname that it recognized.
If I tell it to call my wife using her name it's hit and miss so I created a contact for her using "my wife" and it calls her everytime. Sometimes you have to be creative.
Good luck and let us know your solution.

I've now made a work around using your suggestion. I went into my Google Contacts and created a new group that I'm not displaying on my phone. I filled this group with the contacts that I have problems with, and updated them with more conventional spellings for their names. Voice Search still has access to these contacts but they don't show up in my phone book. Seems to be the best I can do until I figure out why Google isn't recording my voice searches for personalization...
Personalize speech regonition isnt working
I am having the same issue as the previous posters and it is driving me crazy. Very few people seem to be experiencing this problem or at least very few are posting about it.
I AM able to turn on "personalize speech recognition" via the setting in voice search, but on my google dashboard the speech section is missing and I see no evidence that google speech recognition accuracy is improving in any way. Ive tried clearing the app data and enabling search history without success.
Im running ICS stock rom on an HTC vivid with ATT service. I have voice search 3.0.1. The app store only has version 2.1.4. Id gladly uninstall 3.0.1 and install 2.1.4 from the app store if it would fix this problem but im worried uninstalling voice search could cause additional problems. Any help would be hugely appreciated.
thanks
I can't find Personalized Recognition option in Google search, after this last update?!?

[Q] Is there a way to separate all merged contacts

Hi,
I used GoContacts pro to merge contacts accounts.
Unfortunately, it went wrong and merged contacts which have absolutely nothing in common :/
Is there any app than can separate all the merged contact?
Thanks a lot
Many of the apk wrogly merges. I had bitter experiences. Even in google also The nos file up. My contact list went up to 10008 forcing me to remove all. Some how I am managing with outlook contact. Wrong no stacks in others while merging
Can some specialist guide us

In case anybody comes across this thread in their search, I found this: http://www.hanheide.net/2013/02/new-app-to-separate-accidentally-joined.html
it's a simple app that separates all contacts. It's avail from this developer's github and just does that one thing. It takes a min so if you get a message that it's not responding, tell android to wait. It worked on my Nexus 4, that's about as much as I can say about it.

[Q] Facebook Browser Always Crashes

It seems like anytime facebook opens a browser it crashes. What browser is everyone using that is stable? I'm getting tired or waiting for it to give me the hung message so I can close it. Bee trying Chrome and it has the same issue.
I don't have this issue and I have even opened pages from Facebook where it has a lot of images and ads with javascript and all.
K. Maybe it's a one off issue. I'm gunna backup and default it. See if that fixes it.
They do it on purpose so that you download the application so they can steal all your personal info on your smartphone. Browsers have security features built into them that do not allow them access to all your personal stuff. Their browser never crashes on regular browsers while using a PC. What you could do is just but a small device like an iPod and have nothing on there except maybe Instagram and Facebook. Then they have nothing to steal from you. Just use it to log on to Facebook or Instagram after and the heck with their permissions after.
Bump

Looking for a few privacy focused app alternatives to a few app

I know, it's an oxymoron for some of these apps/services, but unfortunately, I need them for business purposes. I am seeing many out-of-date apps and posts about this topic and wondered if anyone has any current suggestions.
I'm using Aurora Store, Aurora Droid, and Hermit. Hermit isn't always a great solution if I need to be in an app multiple times a day and I need to receive notifications. I will continue to use Hermit for apps that I only have to log into periodically, like Banks apps, but the experience isn't always the best if I'm in apps multiple times a day.
- Gmail - Migrated to ProtonMail, but still using FairMail to access Gmail
- Twitter - Hermit is an option, but I wouldn't mind testing some apps.
- Facebook - Currently using Hermit, but I think an app may work better.
- Instagram - Same ^
- What's App - I have it installed on another phone using a VoIP phone number but have WhatsApp Web To Go installed on my Android Phone. If there is another Privacy/Open Source alternative, I would like to try it.
- Telegram - Nekogram X
- Discord - Aliucord (I haven't tried it, but I will)
FB etc, you can't clean up a social and disinformation liability except by not participating or viewing.
You don't play the game, it plays you.
