[Q] Mediagallery.apk - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I got a hold of the mediagallery.apk from the droid x dump but when I try installing it using astro it just says application not installed. How do I make it work for the eris? Thanks in advance for any help.

It most likely won't work because it's made for the Droid X's screen resolution, which is much larger than the Eris's.

heres the file
Sorry I should have posted it in the beginning, but here it is. Thank you. Yes I am rooted running Cyanogen 5.0.8 I believe as I am not on froyo. I know the mediagallery.apk from the droid x requires 2.1 - update 1 which is what I am running. if it needs image editing to go to mdpi let me know I am really good in photoshop and can create them as right now it only has hdpi in the apk.

Here is the error:
Code:
E/PackageManager( 116): Package com.motorola.gallery requires unavailable shared library com.motorola.android.frameworks; failing!
Do you have the shared library?

I have the whole dump, so yes. Do you know what library though? I have everything that's on the droid x.

Ok so I used adb and pushed com.motorola.android.frameworks.jar to /system/framework and rebooted but it's still just saying application not installed. Also tried pushing com.motorola.android.widget.jar and installing a couple of the widgets from the droid X and they are just saying application not installed as well. any ideas? please.
P.S.
How do you find out what error and what file it needs like that?

[Q] UOT Kitchen

So guys did everything and downloaded the UOT I created. When trying to install it as a zip I had an issue. When I went to install zip from sd card it showed the UOT file but when I clicked on it, it just opened up in to 4 further folders. The system and meta and all that. So then I went to install zip from internal sd card and it appeared to work however it said status 0 and installation aborted... Whats going on?
Edit: Saw the workaround where you put the binary file in the UOT Zip, did so and now I get the "Bad error."
Everything is good thanks guys
I don't have any experience with UOT kitchen, but I do know update zips. After you placed the binary in the zip, did you resign it? Not doing so may be your problem.
Resign it? Sorry Im not sure what these means, still kind of amateur? Can you explain hah

By default our recovery doesn't check if the zip is signed, so this probably isn't the problem.
Alright. I pm'd the link to my buddy so he could see if the file is okay, so ill let you guys know if its okay.

What ROM are you running?
I'm having the same issue, what did you do to correct it? I've tried the binary and resigning it.
Anyone else know who to get files cooked from the kitchen scripted for Eclipse v.0.1?
Any help is greatly appreciated!
If you do not know what UOT Kitchen is, just google is... its phuckin awesom, you can change anything on your phone from the boot ani to battery icon, black status bar, noto icons, pull down bars ... tons of crap.... just not sure why the scripts wont work.

Does anyone know what scripting I choose in the kitchen for [GB]Eclipse v.01? There is Edify, and Amend...... I've tried them both, but no luck.
It Says At The Kitchen's Website If You Get The "Status 0" Error To Copy The ROMs "update-binary" And Replace Theirs. As The Two Pictures Dictate Where You Can Find The ROMs update-binary To Copy And Replace The Kitchen's. (Your Rom Maybe Different Than Mine. You Need To Find "YourRom'sName.zip")

Yeah thanks guys, sorry I didnt get on to say I fixed it.. But I already installed a new UOT, and Im having another problem! lol. I installed a uot and when I did it just says installing update...and doesnt change.
My ROM does not have an update-binary.....
I have made progress though.. Seems like the battery mod was conflicting with the CRT animation.
I was able to cook a moded black status bar with some tweaks.....
Anyway to remove the "Verizon Wireless" from the stock status bar? it bleeds threw....
Also... have trouble with boot animation..... it will not flash no mater what I try.
Its located in /system/media/bootanimation.zip
the flashable zip from UOT gives an systax error.... can I just manualy delete the old bootain and copy the new one pulled from the UOT Zip?
Can I do this with a root explorer? or do I need to do ADB?
**EDIT** I was able to delete system/media/bootanimation.zip and put the new "Bios Boot" one there... boots up like an old PC... its awesom... now if I can get the status bar overlap fixxed... and icons and battery

What ROM did you install? If the Developer removed Blur from the phone it might not be as simple as re-installing the stock email app.
However, I'm currently running Abysm Extreme 1.1 which has the stock email app removed. All I did was download the standard version of the ROM which includes the old Gingerbread email app, extracted the email.apk, dropped it on my SD Card and installed it.
hope this helps.
I have included all 4 apk with email in their name form system/apps folder.
Good luck

Ugly status bar icon

Hi everyone just picked up this phone coming from a rezound.I'm brand new to att and I've never see this icon before,it's the one to the left of the alarm clock.I've already unlocked and rooted so if I need to edit the build prop that's not a problem.any one know what this ugly icon is?

It's the NFC notification.
You can turn NFC off in settings and the notification goes away. Just turn it on when you want to use it.

I had several phones with NFC and none of them showed this ugly symbol. Must be a HTC thing. The worst is that Google Wallet is anyway deactivated by AT&T. So it is pretty useless except for exchanging data with Google beam.
Does anyone know how to remove the icon from the status bar without disabling NFC?
I found a thread about disabling it on the Galaxy Note II, but it doesn't work for the One X+.
This is what you do on the Note:
"This can be edited in the feature.xml file (located in "/system/csc/feature.xml") under the NFC the Statusbaricontype should be changed from ATT to none."
Perhaps there's a similar method for us.

The process isn't exactly similar, but the icon can indeed be replaced. The icon is found in the Nfc.apk package in /system/apps. Open Nfc.apk with the archive manager of your choice and replace the stat_sys_nfc_vzw.png file located in res/drawable-hdpi with an icon that is a bit more pleasing to the eye (I've opted for a transparent image myself). I've attached my modified Nfc.apk; it is from an AT&T HOX+ so I can only recommend using it with that variant (but who knows!).

You can either use adb and the push command. Or you can use a file explorer, delete the original first, then copy the new one over. Finally set it's permissions to rwx-rxx-rxx.

Hmm...I'm using Root Browser Lite (I currently don't have access to a computer with the Android SDK installed). I deleted the original Nfc.apk, and it seems to have removed the app from the phone (or uninstalled it, I suppose), however the original .apk still appears in the /system/app/ directory according to both Root Browser Lite and OI File Manager. Furthermore, when I try to copy the modified Nfc.apk, I get a message saying that a file by that name already exists, so I just ask the phone to overwrite the existing file. It starts thinking about it for a minute or two, then says that the operation failed.
As it stands, I have the original file in the original location, albeit unistalled and no way to install it, as I get the "App was not installed" Message when I try to install it.
This may be a dumb question, but am I able to use the Terminal Emulator app to issue the adb command you suggested? If not, Do you have any other suggestions to get me out of this hole I've dug myself into?
Edit: I've succesfully moved the edited file to the correct location!!! I used ES File Explorer. However....I still can't install. I've done everything including changing the permsissions....it just won't install.
Thanks ahead of time!

System apps are not meant to be installed like regular apks, just reboot the phone and the changes in the new apk should take effect (when you turn NFC on no icon should appear).

I've done both of those things now, and still the NFC options don't show up in the menu. It makes the menu look rather lonely.
Just wondering if any further developments have been made regarding this issue. It makes me sad every time I think about how my phone is probably one of the only HOX+s out there that's incapable of using its NFC hardware.

It does not, but all you do is restart the app. It only take 10 seconds, then you're ad free again. How often do you reboot anyways?

I could make one... I have run adfree and used root explorer to view the created hosts file... I see all of the edits.
I am afraid to copy this hosts file to the SD card and then boot into TWRP and flash it for fear of something going wrong. If somebody could confirm that this would be ok, and won't hurt the phone, I will do this, and upload the adfree hosts file. Thanks!

You can accomplish it with the TWRP File Manager by moving the file AdAway creates in data/data to system/etc

That's for unsigned apk.
This is a re-signed apk, can be installed on unrooted stock ROM or rooted ROM.
Still nothing. Manual is on point, it needs to be put on system partition.
This was downloaded from HTC HUB, so if it get installed after resigned, and you can't see the widget in the widget list, my guess is it may not work for Sense 4.1 lite.

Ahh..ok... nothing much I can do here to help; unless someone know how to make this widget installable on unrooted DX then I can provide total of 11 additional widgets.
I decompiled the APK, removed the shared uid part, compiled it, pushed it to /system/app and the widget didn't show up. I signed it with my own certificate, pushed it to /system/app and still no luck.

There's an app called Aroma File Manager made by Amarullz, it is made to be used from recovery as a flashable zip, you just start it like you flash a zip from sd card. Maybe that can be used if there's a problem making flashable zip.

Sorry, didn't mention it but I used ADB in recovery. I think I've gotten used to it, so I don't say it anymore.
I personally hate flashable ZIPs, I'd rather do it manually.
