Hi all,
Im from India and im about to buy my HTC HD2
Okay straight on to my query....
Im planning to shift to Canada to do my MBA from there in the next 8-9 months.
I already know that the HD2 is a quad band , world phone and its frequencies are supported in Canada.
My question is :
What are the Network Service providers in Canada that i can look for a connection purchase when i go there?
Also , if someone would be so kind as to give me details/websites where i can have a good comprehensive list of Data plans for my HD2.
P.S. its already clear but ill say it anyways. Im gonna buy the Standard HD2 version.
Please help me out ppl.
To the mods : If you feel this [Q] has been opened unnecessarily , then please excuse me as i could not find any such info anywhere in the thread.
Cheers
No help ???

Bumpity bump...
Tutorial How-To for pre-MBA level user(s):
Question: "What are the Network Service providers in Canada that i can look for a connection purchase when i go there?
Also , if someone would be so kind as to give me details/websites where i can have a good comprehensive list of Data plans for my HD2."
Tutorial (for pre-MBA level users only, which having the difficulty in finding it itself):
1. Open internet browser (if you are using MS Windows, it will be the icon with the blue "E" logo of the Internet Explorer by default. If you're using Linux, then likely it will be Firefox by default).
2. In the address bar, type: www.google.com
3. In the Google's search bar, type: canada mobile provider
4. When Google will display the search results, right click on the first link displayed, stating: "List of Canadian mobile phone companies - Wikipedia..." (it will be blue again).
5. Choose: open in new window
6. The new window will be opened, and then, you will find the hidden and very difficult to obtain data about the Canadian mobile providers.
Additional information: to check the data plans, on the Wikipedia page, you have to click each provider's links to go to their pages.
Hope that this tutorial will help you, and you will go to Canada to increase your education level... definitely, you need it....
@spamtrash
Wow... this really shows ur maturity level ....
Anyone can do wat u said u fool...
Im asking the ppl who use the networks in canada
ive already visited all the sites for the network providers...
and like any common buffoon , u will believe wat is stated on the sites....
Ask the fellow man who uses these networks and he will tell u which is better for reception etc....
Im not talking about data plans .... even a kid can look it up...
Im asking for first hand experience...
and as far as ur comment.... looks like u had too much time at ur hands and no brains to come up with that,....
wats the matter ??? no jobs in the UK to keep u occupied???
In the first post, you wrote:
" if someone would be so kind as to give me details/websites where i can have a good comprehensive list of Data plans for my HD2."
now, you are stating:
"Im not talking about data plans .... even a kid can look it up..."
Emm... it seems that you are the kid, who wasn't able to look it up, first.
What is more and worse, for such "consequence" I have only one answer, my friend:
You have to ask for the psychiatric advice, because it can be or sclerosis, or shizophrenia, both of which can be (in the early stage) treated.
From another point of view: to compare the reception between the different networks, you have to ask the person, which uses two or more in the same time, using different network providers, which in the order, will have to use different MVNO Networks, as for example 7-Eleven will have same range as Rogers.
Too complicated?
I have stated: pre-MBA tutorial, not: Pre-MBA in India, so it can be too advanced for you to find and to compare by yourself.
And regarding my workload, I have some things to do... I have to correct all of the mistakes and compensate the damages caused by the located in India outsourced "helpdesks", basically because of the reason described in the old joke:
An Italian, French and Indian went for a job interview in England. Before the interview, they were told that they must compose a sentence in
English with three main words: green, pink and yellow..The Italian was first: “I wake up in the morning. I see the yellow
sun. I see the green grass and I think to myself, I hope it will be a pink
day..”
The French was next: ” I wake up in the morning, I eat a yellow banana,
a green pepper and in the evening I watch the pink panter on TV…
Last was the Indian, : “I wake up in the morning, I hear the phone
“green green“, I “pink” up the phone and I say “Yellow“
but this doesn't mean that I cannot read and answer some stupid questions to have the fun about the MBA (or: pre-MBA level) in India
P.S. Could you do me one favour? Please do not send me the PM's with the requests for answers, if I will have a time and a mood to go through your version of Hinglish, I'll definitely answer you, bro
@spamtrash
ha ha ha....
youre such a fuking retard....
LOLzzzz
There... hows that for my Hinglish for u ...
Maybe, but... I know the Candian coverage, tariffs, data plans, while... you know where to feed your sheeps, my dalici friend.
ha ha ha....
man dont stop
ur sooo funny
Wow! back to subject - I use Fido at the moment Fido is owned by Rogers it is Quad band GSM. It is a little less than Rogers. I have used CDMA (Bell) in the past but personaly did not like it. There are 3 Major Suppliers Rogers, Bell and Telus. There is a newer service called Wind mobile which has very competative pricing. Not availabe everwhere yet. If your going to a major city try Wind or try Fido "City" If going to Quebec try Vodaphone
HTC HD2will not work for 3g but runs fine on edge on Fido or Rogers (no 1700/2100 bands) but will run 3g on Wind. I have HD2 on Fido and am satisfied with edge
Fido and Rogers give you EDGE, and it works great for me.
Facebook mobile page loads in less than a second running on Opera 10.
Gamespot ( a gaming site ) running on Opera 10 with flash content loads in about 5 seconds. Rogers and Fido are the same company so you get the benefits of GSM 900 and GSM 1800 with no extra charge, that means better coverage overall.
Now if you plan to go with WIND mobile, which is the lease costly choice you must get the T-mobile version. WIND is a T-mobile branch for Canada.
I have both a T-mobile and a HK version. The HK version even though Unlocked will not support any 3G bands in Canada. But my T-mobile version runs with WIND mobiles 1700+2100 UMTS band which is 3G. WIND has great deals but the coverage is not the greatest if you live outside a major city, check the their web page for full coverage.
And the other service providers will not work with any version of HTC HD2/LEO.

Looks like EDGE gives you good speeds on ur HD2....
see im on vodafone in my country and frankly speaking the egde isnt that great... the speed is ok but the charges a are a little too expensive....
How do u feel about the data usage charges??? are they reasonable for Fido or Rogers??
Thanks a ton for your feedback man....
I really appreciate you inputs
P.S. : even i am an avid follower of GAMESPOT
Hey guys can u also list a decent GPS app that works well in CANADA ???
Cheers
I have the Australian Telstra version and I get 3G/HSDPA on Rogers

Hi all,
as a new XDA user have been reading through the forum with interest, found out a lot about my unit that I did not know and am sure there is a lot more to find,
My XDA is a Model PW10B1
Rom : 4.00.01ENG
Radio 4.20.00
Protocol 32S54
At the moment I am using a T-Mobile (UK) Sim in it and am happy with the service,
In answer to some of the comments on the board about using the phone in the US, I can confirm it does work fine, I got the best service on the US T-Mobile network around Denver where the GPRS worked fine, (Using the T-Mobile offer of GPRS at same as UK rates, managed to do anot of good data transfer), on the West Coast (LA) the phone works fine but no GPRS available, due to the network roaming agreement there.
hope that helps for anyone thinking about taking XDA to a US area
Ammendment to the Above,
I should say that my XDA is a Model PW10A1, but since installing 2003 the software page reports it a PW10B1
And the Test in the US was done before the 2003 was written over the standard ROM
http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=47035#post47035
This user says his won't work at all in the US.
Hi
Well all I can tell you is that my phone which is a 64mb UK o2 device worked fine, both on T-Mobile while in Denver and also in Los Angles, but only got GPRS service in Denver!.
Maybe the other poster had an older model, or some other reason i don't know all I can say is that my unit looged onto the US network as soon as the band was switched in the bootloaded.
I am back there next month, I will take a picture of the screen if you want showing it logged onto the netowrk if you want to see proof!!
I don’t know if i in the right forum-but it appears what i am after which is “a fix to the touch-pro to enable UTMS 850 (wcdma)”, which has been released here in Australia as 900-2100. Telstra our biggest service provider operates on 850, so my “Touch Pro” does not work. Now here’s the thing, HTC released in Australia the Touch Diamond, operating at 900-2100 as is the Touch Pro, they have just released a new Telstra ROM in Australia that upgrades the settings of the Diamond to include the 850 range on utms, so the touch diamond in Australia is now UTS 850-2100. This means the problem is software, however I am nowhere near good at this, could someone not check out this rom and modify it for the Touch Pro, it is available on the HTC Australian site. If this works please let me know.
Thanks 20 times
Touch Pro European version has always had UMTS 850/1900 as a setting you can select. Problem is you can select it but it doesn't work. Do you know if the Telstra ROM you are referring to has been shown to work with UMTS 850?

The touch Pro in Australia, does not even have an option for 850 utms as did the the touch dimond, however they have just released an upgrade rom for the dimond that now makes it possible to obtain 850 utms. As the dimond is similar to the touch pro couldnt the experts extract the settings from that rom and export it to the Touch Pro rom? I dont know im just hoping thats the case. If so it should fix the range in europe as well?
850 band in australia
i have ben told by australian htc support that it is a hardware limitation that they will not fix this that they have no intention to do so. They have basically turned there nose up at Telstra as they didnt want to support there phone 3 interpret that as cash), so they have not offered the 850 band as a hardware limitation.
Those with cracked roms showing 850 band, does not operate at 850.
I am extremely mad at this narrow minded pathetic device for which I purchased two of them for about 2500 bucks in total and because I use telstra there comments are along the lines of (paraphrased) get stufed, we dont care, were not refunding, we wont warranty it, the device is not a total pathetic useless piece of **** cause we told you it was 900/2100 only!!!
I know a lot about these phones used them for years and didnt pickup the omission of 850 band (not knowing), my complaint is they should expressly state that "IT DOES NOT WORK ON TELSTRA NEXT G NETWORK AND YOU WILL NOT GET NEXT G SPEED, NEXT G COVERAGE, NOR HSDPA INTERNET SPEEDS ON THE TELSTRA NETWORK"
so in essence, you can only use this on vodaphone, optus, or 3 network.
My phones default back to EDGE speeds wtf!!! alas, the omission rather than explicit statements is what the sneaky good for nothing companies now resort to.
Due credit to www.expansys.com.au, they with integrity, honesty and openness have updated there website to state it will not support telstra next G
As such, dont bother. HTC felt it was prudent in there business management and marketing hype to exclude Australia biggest telecommunications company, fastest internet speed, and greatest coverage.... whilst simulataneously stating that the device is not faulty or flawed and was done by design and marketed by omission!!!
I sent a message to HTC customer support.... I wonder if they will respond....
Curiosity and frustration has got the better of me.
What is the state of your phones with compatability to the nextG network in Australia. I would love to get a HD but if it means that Im only going to get edge network performance I would be better off getting a 16gb iPhone!
For the same argument, I work for a large importer and travel a lot. So cross band compatability IS an issue if I am travelling asia and europe.
Can I please find out what the plans are for your devices on the BIGGEST mobile network in Australia... Telstra NextG.
Or alternately why you have made the choice to shun NextG users and corporate travellers by castrating these wonderful devices and leaving them half as functional as they should be???

850 band
LOL
Good onya
Bet they dont respond, or they respond with there normal subtleties and innuendo promising everything, delivering something sub-optimal.
There weird i find, in there marketing pitch that they can "spin" on a complaint or comment with avoidance and subtleties.
I also a a long time user of HTC, and brought the Touch Pro from expansys without knowledge of the no support for Telstra. HTC as quoted told me also that they had no intention of supporting Telstra, cut your nose despite your face or what! “Only the biggest service provider in the country and the only provider that supports country areas”. Who is in charge of their marketing? What an idiot. Everyone says it is a hardware limitation, well im not a phone tech just a user and HTC said that about the HTC Dimond 900-2100. Well how come HTC and Telstra now support the Dimond and all of a sudden the ROM upgrade allows the dimond to have 850-2100? I know for a fact in about 6 months Telstra through HTC will release the ROM upgrade for the Touch Pro. So i don’t believe HTC about the hardware limitations and I believe the answers out there, it just gona take someone with a lot more knowledge than me to work it out. I would not have thought there was not that much difference in the Touch Pro ROM and the Dimond ROM- however as stated im no expert.
Thanks 20Times
Does anyone have an update on this? Is it possible to find out what they did firmware wise on the Diamond?
I too don't believe there is a hardware limitation, oddly though when I went to the latest Hut3 ROM (for AUstralia) I have the UMTS850 option but it doesn't work (no surprise).
Maybe some of the more experienced members can look into the diffeence between a working Diamond UMTS850 ROM & the Hut3 ROM?
The response.....
Hi All,
I got a response... and it wasn't dismissive though it was short and stated only about the HD (sorry, I know its the TP thread!).
They said they are expecting to relaes the HD on the Australian Market in January 09 and that it is expected that there will be a NextG compatable version.
If that means a 850 UMTS version then there "should" be a US version too.
Lets wait and see what HTC can bring to the table.
To be honest folks, I despise and hate Telstra with every bone in my body (people complain about Microsoft but Telstra is 10 BILLION times WORSE!!!!) so I really don't care about this issue... BUT
1. Telstra does NOT offer the TP on their network or for sale within their shops/resellers
2. HTC have NEVER said or listed the TP as being compatible with the Telstra CrapG Australia-only network
3. HTC have ALWAYS listed the frequencies their phones work on - a NORMAL person would have done due diligence BEFORE spending any money
4. A NORMAL person would know Telstra HAS to be different from the rest of the world*, which means ONLY phones sold by Telstra are known to work on their network.
Basically... YOU stuffed up. It is YOUR fault YOU did not LOOK / LEARN and READ. It is NOT HTC's fault. Next time you consider buying a phone... do your homework!!! Don't blame others for YOUR own mistakes.
Bottom line - you should have purchased the 850Mhz American version as they have just as bad mobile phone systems as Telstra - so they might be compatible. Personally I do not think a software update to the phone will enable and allow the 850Mhz freq to work correctly... because there are two hardware versions of the phone available for sale; one for the 900/1900/2100 and another for the 850.
*Isn't it a shame the REST OF THE WORLD (including Vodafone and Optus in Australia) actually having forward thinking and good networks COMPETITIVELY SHARING the 900/1900/2100 freq's.
NOTE: I do not work for any of the businesses named in this posting... but I do have a Touch Pro that I can use anywhere in the world, including Australia :-D

While I agree with the rest of your message... but just to clarify..
1. North American markets use 850/1900 I believe because when those networks were being built, the 900/1800mhz frequencies were already allocated by the FCC in the USA. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSM#Technical_details "Some countries in the Americas (including Canada and the United States) use the 850 MHz and 1900 MHz bands because the 900 and 1800 MHz frequency bands were already allocated."
2. Canada, and several countries in South America followed USA using 850/1900 because they saw more value in being able to offer network compatibility (read: roaming charges) to USA travelers, than overseas travelers.
3. Networks in North America share the frequencies just like they do in non-North American markets, for example, T-Mobile, and AT&T in the USA operate in the same bands, as do Rogers & Fido in Canada (the fact that Rogers now actually owns Fido is beside the point, they shared the frequency when Fido was owned by Microcell as well). I also happen to know that the USA/Canada markets are sharing the bands fine as well... being a resident of Niagara Falls, Canada... being so close to the Canada/USA border I can give 1st hand experience that depending on where I am, its not unusual for me to pick up the USA networks while in Canada and still being able to see my own. Personally, I believe that some of the USA carriers have purposely put towers as close to the border as possible in an attempt to catch unsuspecting Canadians roaming on their networks even though they have not left the country. I know I had this happen to me before, thankfully Rogers was willing to reverse the charges for me.
The point being, the 900/1800 frequencies were already allocated for other purposes in the USA at the time that some non-North American markets decided on those frequencies. So in reality, you should be blaming those networks/carriers/regulators/governments/etc. for NOT having forward thinking and picking frequencies that they knew ahead of time would not be suitable in the USA.

Thanks for the informative feedback GTroberts, obviously your one of the PDA users that access you PDA in the city, maybe you would be better of using a PC. There are some people who don’t have a choice about their service provider because they use the PDAs for work and that work involves travelling in country areas, where push email is actually used what it was designed for, travelling! The only service provider that effectively covers the country is Telstra, I know as all other user with Hutchinson-Optus etc-have no coverage whilst I am still receiving phone calls and data. So as much as I don’t like Telstra they have the market-the country market- so loose the tunnel vision. Additionally no one is winging about the non availability of 850, people are asking how do we get it. As for being stupid for buying the Touch Pro in Australia for Telstra, newsflash- every HTC I have brought was compatible prior to the TP, I was on a waiting list with Expansys before it was released or the specification was available, when purchased Expansys never had the fact that it was not compatible with Next G. So when i received the phone I had no idea, as did some other folks on this forum. The fact is that everyone has realised a mistake was made and we are all only searching for solutions. It sounds like your part of the problem and not part of the solution. As for myself I have brought a Dimond and in time I know ROM will be released to upgrade the TP on 850.

Defense for the bad purchase...
I bought the Touch Pro (being an educated Geek) I have purchased almost all of the HTC phones from the european markets because I like the newest in technology (some good some really bad!) Well, this time they threw a curve (I was upgrading from the tilt/kaiser) I didnt see the previous drama about the 850Mhz problem in the Diamond. I have purchased no less than 10 different phones from europe and this was the first time that there was a problem with quad band! My guy that I used to buy them from always told me "quad band bla bla..." lol after wasting almost $1000 US on a phone that sucks unless you send it overseas! I feel for ya brotha!
I dont agree with the fact that everyone is going to know every spec when you buy a phone...I bet you didnt know your phone could function as a disk drive! So what is the sense of "beating up" a guy that just lost/wasted mad money on a phone that SHOULD HAVE WORKED! How much do you think they saved on the "quad band delete" option? 50 cents a phone? I would almost guarantee that it had something to do with ATT! Conversation would have gone something like this....
Ya, uhh...hi, htc? yeah, this is bob the buyer from ATT...Yeah we would like to give you a purchase order for 3 billion dollars of that new phone you have, the touch pro, but I would like to put a stop to all of our customers buying imported phones...do you think you could F**K everyone else and just make the euro released phone not function at full speed over here, you know, not make it as cool as the apple 3G phone that we wasted so much on advertising with? That way "we can be in control of our network" (yeah right) Oh and by the way, we will still sell your phones even though we worship apple...
Just my 2 cents!
Anyone in anywhere besides USA and Australia want a good deal on an "almost new" Touch Pro?

Please, don't blame others for your lack of care.
If you are buying a 1000 bucks phone you should check it's specs before closing the deal, specially if you're bringing it overseas.
In fact, when buiyng technology articles/products, you should search all the info about them, specially previews/reviews about it, in order to don't end up with something not suit for the use you intend it to.
And just because in your prior buys you didn't have a problem like the one you face now it doesn't mean you did right before.
No, on your other buys I were lucky despite being as careless.
So, stop crying and take responsability for your actions!
You did wrong, not the guys who made the phone nor the one's who sold it to you! You were careless and this time you were out of luck.
Live with it and learn your lesson: be carefull on your next buys, get all the product info before buiyng!
I assure you the chances of getting something different from what you expected will be close to zero.
That's it, I hope this post helps educating some "geeks" and whoever is interested and as well puts some shame on the careless whiners around the forums.
Lastly, sorry for going off topic, but it appeared to be the right thing to do at this time.
Cheers to all.
P.S.: Mods, please close this thread, the question has been answered and the subject is already covered around the forums as well.

I do know my cellphone can work as a disk drive, does it make me an educated Geek as well?? lol
I need to point out, you do not necessarily know every spec of a phone that you are about to spend thousand dollars to purchase. It's something up to you to decide. However, while you encounter a problem, do not blame the manufacture of the phone while they've already stated the working frequency of the phone on their website and even other places have the information as well. Could you really blame that??
I personally do not think that Expansys needs to clearly put "does not support Telstra's Next-G network" in words since if you are such a person who is willing to make a purchase out of such a "RIPOFF" website for a 1st hand experience for a newest tech gadget, you should know technology stuff really well, from inside out. So it really makes yourself to be the only one responsible for such an outcome. Unless Expansys or HTC mistakenly stated that the phone (Raphael 100) worked on UMTS850MHz, then you should really blame on Expansys, or HTC. Other than that, good luck.
Well, itz just my 2 cents.
all you can do now is selling your phone and go grab a US version one. mine works pretty well.
G.
3G no Next G
I live in a regional area (Next G, not 3G), but when I visited Perth last week, I was able to pick up Telstra3G on my HTC Touch Pro.
It was on AUTO band select so I don't know which frequency it picked up on. I'm runnin [email protected] v1.40 WWE, radio 1.02.25.32.
Still, my mate can pickup the NextG network on his Diamond, but I can't on my pro
I'm no expert but I was of the understanding is that the Raph and Diamond share most of the same hardware. I've seen on the Raph Radio Thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=439566 that you can use a Diamond Radio on the Touch Pro (as long as you Security Unlock first). I'm on the 3 network (so I can watch the cricket ) so I can't test for you but I think flashing with a one of Telstra Diamond Radios might be worth a try. I've tried checking the wiki to see which Radio comes with the current Diamond from Telstra but the info doesn't seem to be there. You may need to trawl the Diamond forums to see what version others are using.
Hello all. After trolling the forums for hours, I am still unsure where we are at with all this. Could someone please advise if there is a solution to using a Touch Pro on the Telstra 3G network? Thanks in advance.
it works on telstra 3G edge and gprs but not telstra next G. 3g coverage for telstra is poor. they promote next g.
Hi,
I plan to buy the vibrant and may move out of US in a few months.
The Tmobile rep tells me that the phone will not work outside the US even after unlocking because it uses some special google towers and the phone is deigned to only work with tmobile!!
I told him that the phone supports the bands required by the country I will move to, and the carriers there have a 3g service but he insisted that it won't work.
I don't see why the phone shouldn't work.
Is there anything else that will stop the phone (specifically 3g internet) from working in India?
Thanks.
My bf bought his Vibrant from Tmo while we were in the US and they tried pushing that crap on us. Thankfully, we knew how GSM/3g works and what bands we needed so we weren't fooled. Your phone should work overseas just fine but make sure you double check on the 3g bands just in case.
Oh thanks. I suspected that there was something fishy in the tmobile reps response
Special Google Towers?
Yeah T-Mobile WILL lie to you.
They told us that if we cancel our data plan our phone won't work...
it does.
WTF !
Are you sure they told you that ?!
I ordered Vibrant 3 days ago from ebay and now after reading your post I'm worried that it won't work with my Service provider !!
This is weird !
I had HTC HD2 before from T-Mobile and internet was working perfectly with my service provider !
I think they just don't want you to use it without there plan so that's why they're telling people that !!!
wolf, the only way that phone wouldn't work is if you're carrying it from a GSM carrier to a CDMA carrier or something like that because GSMs have SIM cards while CDMA phones don't use the same technology.
The vibrant should connect with any carrier that have these frequencies:
GSM: 850, 900, 1800, 1900
3g: 1700 (AWS*), 1900, 2100
Personally, the only place you should worry about the phone not completely working is in Japan and that's because although they do have 1700 3g, it's not the same as AWS. From my research, I believe that most 3g carriers rely on either 900 or 2100, so I guess as long as you have a phone that can do 3g with just 2100, you should be good in the majority of places. (BTW, if I said something that's completely untrue, then feel free to correct me).
The main source I used for coming to my conclusion was wikipedia:
Search UTMS and then scroll all the way to the bottom of the article and click the link "List of Deployed UTMS networks" under See Also.
The only problems I could think of that you could have would possibly be the Navigation and the Market. I know in the past the Navigation was specific to the US, but not sure if that has changed.

About navigation and market, is there a way to get those working outside of the US w/o having to turn your phone into an i9000? My bf's phone is still running Tmobile stock but we were thinking of flashing ROMs sometime in the future.
i have been using the t-mobile vibrant bought in the us at my location in lagos Nigeria and everything works just fine. 3g, navigation and the market. and i have more people buying to use in other parts of nigeria without any hitch.
Okay im not a big poster but this just pisses me off. TMO reps are morons they are not trained in phones. They are just regular people trying to make money off commission. I know this cuz i use to work with them. I would laugh that i knew more about phones then the damn managers.
But anyways yea your phone should work. They lie about unlock codes and phones getting unlocked because they make no commission on selling phones only on selling contracts plans and data plans. I use to unlock so many phones outside of tmo for a small fee (i am a student my time is valuable only ten bucks or 5 bucks) because tmo reps would just lie to these poor people.
Do not go to tmo store for anything unless u cant get it online stay far far away.
Update: I got the mobile and it's working fine
T-Mobile is just fooling us !

They tried pulling the same crap with us before we left the US and we went to multiple stores. All of them said that the phone wouldn't work outside of the US. They actually tried to get us on a plan and refused to unlock even when I said that we'd be leaving the US within the week when we bought it off contract. I'm honestly reconsidering going to Tmobile when I return to the US later on. Simple Mobile runs on Tmo's network anyhow and after this experience with their store clerks, I'd almost rather go with them.

It's good to know that Nigeria has the special Google towers too!
I'm a T mobile rep. Yes the phone works outside the country. In fact the Vibrant if unlocked has been said to work on ATTs 3g in some areas. Most reps don't know much about the phones past the specifications. Most people in here know more about phones than the general earphone sales rep. Feel free to send me a PM for any general Tmobile questions and I'll doo my best to help you guys out.

Thats funny!!! I almost fell out of my seat laughing. lol
They are lying again.
I took my vibrant to Indonesia and Taiwan, put their in a local sim card and works flawlessly
Of course my phone is unlocked with the code tmo provided.
internet promlem with UNLOCKED Tmo Vibrant
So i bought on eBay unlocked Tmo Vibrant. And i use it in Ukraine.
Everything is OK.
BUT!
It is impossible to surf internet in EDGE mode.
If WiFi is ON - ererything is good. Web works.
But!
In EDGE mode Web brawser (inbuilt or Dolphin - it's nothing) can not find any page. It looks like NO internet conection.
But!
All other applications (Market, Gmail, Maps and all other) work properly either WiFi or EDGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
does anybody know how to decide a problem?

thanks man! appreciate it.. i know that the atrix have quadband for gsm which supports 900/1800 here in the phils and for the 3G, the band here is 2100, why it wont work? ... and other than updating manually, can i update it via wi-fi?
The 2100 band is the problem. AT&T Atrix doesn't support that band.
I don't think the OTA works using wifi but you can download the stock update using wifi and apply it.
CORRECTION: it does support the 2100 3G frequency. I didn't understand the whole WCDMA vs GSM thing correctly
i have read some old reviews when it is still in Froyo and there are a lot of complaints about the laggy pinch to zoom of Atrix.. how is the pinch to zoom of pictures in Atrix GB?
I have not experienced any problems. The zoom is very responsive
well i just hope someone who bought an unlocked at&t Atrix from the US and used it here in the Philippines would post their experience about the phone. i have read from different sites and forums that they have complaints about Atrix connectivity like wi-fi and bluetooth in different countries.
it's just too bad only few people here in the Philippines use Atrix.
I used my phone in the philippines. I was able to get internet on it. Not sure it was 3g but it was the h+ symbol on both smart and globe. I went to their offices to help set it up. Just remember, most places won't have 3g yet especially those place that don't support smartbro or globe broadband which uses the 3g signal I believe. Just ask for help there.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth use the same standards around the world. I wouldn't pay too much attention to those complaints.
The issue with GSM coverage is that the phone must support the frequency bands for the local carrier's equipment, and the carrier must support the specific GSM standards (GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, HSUPA, LTE, etc.) that the phone is capable of. The Atrix 4G does indeed support 2100 MHz but as other folks have noted in this thread, the main carriers in the Phils (Smart and Globe) don't support HSPA+.

im quite confused about that 3G thing.. your post was right.. Philippines do not belong to the list of HSUPA networks.. but when I viewed the list of HSDPA networks, Philippines was there.. (i could not share the link for the meantime, 3 more posts needed).. this got me really confused.. im afraid i cannot use internet services by ISP.. maybe wi-fi only..
thank you guys for helping.. i really appreciate it.

thanks man.. i felt a little relieved..
can i ask something? after the GB update, i have read that it does not offer settings in the SMS regarding its delivery reports? and when u send messages, does it have sent items?
im sorry for such inquisitions and being a noob..
i just want to know more about this phone before buying so that i wont have regrets..
thanks again..

I'd be interested to see your link, but if it came from the same site as the one where folks think that wi-fi and BT won't work in the Phils. then again, I wouldn't put much stock in that claim. HSPA upgrades aren't cheap and with 1 Peso per minute calling plans I don't think the carriers there have much of an upgrade budget. (My wife is a Filipina and has had GSM phones here in the states ever since AT&T has been selling them.)

No problem with the questions.
I don't recall if my Atrix had an option for SMS delivery reports prior to me applying the OTA update to GB. I don't see that option now, but maybe I'm looking in the wrong place. In any event that sounds like a feature of the Android OS (if it actually exists). So if it's lacking (or present ) on other Android phones then I would expect the same for the Atrix.
thanks andy for the informative replies. Im quite relieved now after i have read the previous post by mamoranto.
because i have have had 5 GSM phones from the states which came from different carriers and i have no idea on their specific details (because mostly are gifts), out of the 5 phones only 2 phones are used for "all around, daily purposes" because here in the philippines, texting is the number purpose of a phone. does the Atrix have sent items/messages stored after you send an sms?
sorry for my noobish questions.

Well I stand corrected.
The "Globe Telecom" page on Wikipedia claims both 3G and HSDPA support on their networks. Apparently they've just begun rolling out WiMAX in Metro Manila and points south as well. This page reads like marketing copy, so I assume this info comes straight from Globe.
Dang...wish I was in the Philippines again!
oooppss sorry for the previous post... it was answered.

I think *every* phone in the Phils originally came from the states, LOL. Or at least that's the way with my wife's family. My sis-in-law just got my daughter's barely-used iPhone 3Gs, and my niece there just got my wife's BlackBerry Curve (wife and daughter had to get new iPhone 4).
Are you gonna buy this Atrix new there? You must be rich...
P.S. The Atrix does keep copies of sent and received SMS messages. It shows them in threads/conversations like iPhone, or Chikka.
It uses the Text Messaging app which I think is part of the Android OS. Motorola also throws in their own messaging widget if you want you want to use that.
My dinner break is over and I need to quit this thread for now...
Mabuhay!
Hello, I'm going to Japan in May/June & I was wondering if the international I9100, not the Japanese SC variant, is compatible with the data networks over there. I did some Googling but didn't find any conclusive answers. I apologise if the question is "noob", or if this is not the right section to post this in.
In addition, this is my first time in Japan (specifically, Tokyo) with a smartphone so I was looking at prepaid data plans for non-Residents, and chanced upon b-mobile (http://www.bmobile.ne.jp/) which appears to offer pretty good choices. My Japanese is at around the N3 level but reading a wall of text gives me a headache so I've been referring to softbanksucks.blogspot.com for more cognitively-friendly, English translations of certain related news.
1) They've launched a new prepaid card (at least I think it's prepaid) called the Chameleon 4G which rides on DOCOMO's 4G network. My question is, since my I9100 is not LTE-capable, will I still be able to tap on the data network (if I get that card) but maxed out at a speed my phone is able to handle.
2) Since this is my first time, I would like to ask if anyone who has been to Japan has any recommendations for getting a prepaid SIM card with data (eg. Plans, things to look out for, tips, etc). I was looking at data SIMs with talktime too but they all seem to be post-paid.
Many thanks for any help rendered!

Docomo should work the i9100 as it uses a GSM network. From my memory, either docomo or softbank may actually deny giving you a sim card for unlocked phones. At least that was the case for my friend while he was working in tokyo.

Hmm that's strange, especially since he was working there and all. I heard both companies started selling prepaid SIM cards not too long ago, albeit at an exorbitant price. Thanks for clarifying the networks though!

I'm actually going in late May as well and was wondering the same thing. Fact that SGS2 will work is great news, as far as getting a sim, can't you just bs them and say a friend will give you some old phone when you meet up or whatever? If they offer and sell prepaid sims, I wouldn't imagine it being that much of a problem...
As far as networks, I gathered that majority over there is UMTS aka HSDPA these days, which most GSM phones have anyway, so that shouldn't be a problem at all.

Not sure the bs will work, 'cause from what I hear, you need an actual Japanese address & some kind of Japanese identification.
It's much easier to get a data-only SIM card & maybe couple that with a Skype Premium subscription for the period of time you'll be there, for calling.

Or via a friend, which is what i ended up doing. IMO much easier to just connect with or make a new friend and have them hook ya up.
