Has anybody worked out how to remove the language bar which pops up when texting yet? If I have the sudden urge to switch to Catalan half way through a text I will do it long-hand, that bar takes up too much of the already small screen!
Could you post a photo of what you mean, cost I don't get any language bar come up

I cant post a pic of it at the moment, but let me try to explain it better. When i go to enter text using the hardware keyboard a blue bar appears at the bottom of the screen (taking up approx 1/5 of the screen) with "Eng" on the left and an icon to show the status of the Caps lock on the right, along with a close button. This annoys the hell out of me as often when filling in passwords etc it covers up the "Ok" button.
Only way I found on mini pro is
Settings - Locale & Text
Uncheck the default input tick box
This works well on mini pro but stops you using virtual keyboard

Is a good intermediate solution but someone knows a way to get rid of this bar without losing the virtual keyboard?
It's build in built-in keyboard and I think it could not be removed (not easily without root hacks). The half-solution without root is to use another software keyboard.
Yeah installing third party keyboard software gets rid of the blue language bar.
I'm using SlideIt Keyboard which changes the virtual keyboard to a funky Swype-like keyboard but removes the language bar when using the hardware keyboard.

Can anyone recomend a decent keyboard replacement.
Also, i've asked this before (didn't get much of a reposnse) but is there a way to get spell check with the hardware keyboard?

I use AnySoftKeyboard, which is free and provides a reasonably good keyboard for when I don't want to open the hardware keyboard.

Currently there doesn't appear to be one.
I have ended up installing AnySoft keyboard too. Its ok, but removes the function where you could long-press a key to access the blue alternate option on it. It has removed the language bar though so its good enough for me!

Hi,
whenever i use the hard keyboard, that stupid little language bar pops up on the bottom. I always press the eng button by accident and change the language.
How can I get rid of it without, losing softkeys on portrait mode and the symbol function.
thanks!
Ray
The only way I know to get rid of the language bar is to install another keyboard, but you lose the symbol function. Check this thread out for a great alternative, the keyboard linked includes an auto-correction for the physical keyboard, which in my opinion, is a brilliant addition as well as easily accessed symbols.
really?
so theres no way to type underscore "_" in landscape mode?
I suppose if you were desperate you could leave the default text input active and switch to it from the HTC keyboard when you wanna use an underscore. Although that's a little tedious lol.
That sucks...
Thanks anyway

Hi,
I guess, you can do it by :
Settings> Locale & text> Un-checking "DEFAULT INPUT"

Yes, we know that, but if i do that, I won't be able to type _ anymore.
Lol cant u close the phone and do undetscore thru one of the side sliders of th portrait keyboard.. how lame sony have been with minor amazingly annoying smart ( or dumb lol) phone issues on th xperia range. Iv had th original x1 then x10 m pro and overall pleased with both. Its just th connectivity/compatabillity that's gettin on my goose...

Yes I can, but in the process of doing so, i might press something else and changed the language to estonian or something. It's a great phone, but these small details annoy me. Crapy contact dialer and crappy symbol keys.
You know, using swiftkey as the default input and slide out the keyboard, the annoying useless blue box got replaced with a white text prediction board. It works the same as the virtual one but of course since we are using physical keyboard, our speed will increase and augmented by the text prediction of swift key, the speed will increase even further.
And by the way, swiftkey prediction can predict your next words very accurately and for me, it is the best text prediction ever. Search the market for swiftkey and try it yourself.
+1 for Swiftkey!
the best text prediction for me too!
*one thing i noticed tho when using the physical keyboard,
there's no way to input other symbols...i've to close the keyboard and use the onscreen keyboard to input symbols and/or smileys...
Yeah, that's the one problem. IF we want to add symbol, we would have to revert back to default input. Shame, no one has develop an apps that completely designed for mini pro (AKA, symbol buttons work)

This is the most annoying thing about the phone.. It doesn't even have a % symbol. So frustrating!

Tell me about it.... I still can't do any of the following on the physical keyboard:
" < > £ $ %
I know one way of doing this is to use a different keyboard app but I haven't really found one that works as well as the stock one. Although if anyone can suggest a good one which has T9 keys (e.g. [abc] [efg] etc.) that fits well on the screen I'd like to know; I tried betterkeyboard but it took up too much of the screen I found and the keys were abit small.
Back to topic though, has anyone found a way to just get rid of the annoying language bar that pops up when using the hardware keyboard? I tried unticking the 'default input' option but that seems to screw up the virtual keyboard and eventually came back on anyway.
thanks for any help.
There is currently no 3rd party input method that has taken the Sym/áü button of the mini pro into consideration. I have taken this up and helped the author of Smart Keyboard with this problem, and he has said that it is on his to do list. http://www.dexilog.com/smartkeyboard/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=565 Hopefully it wont be to long before this is fixed. Otherwise I find the mentioned Smart Keyboard the one I am most comfortable with. Should give it a go
just install third party keyboard application and make it as default.
I suggest FlexT9.
I am trying to use the keyboard case for a lot of text entry, but I find that sometimes it will playup. it will still allow text entry, but when I press the space bar it will skip back to the beginning of the current word before entering the space.
has anybody seen this issue?

Welcome to my world. This seems to be a widely spread issue. It is not clear whether it is cover's issue or the tablet itself. I have sent my cover for replacement, hoping it will fix the problem. However, i do believe that it has to do with the tablet itself. Probably the connector. Try to take to service center if you can. My problem is i have to send it all the way to USA and i am in Europe

Same issue here, hopefully they come up with a fix soon.

I've that issue, too. I found that it has s/th to do with the language settings. If you write a correct spelled word all is ok. If you have spelling mistakes the cursor jumps to the beginning of the wrong written word.
Unfortunately I've no time to discover this further.
Hope s/o comes up with a solution to prevent this annoying behavior.
Do you all use a different software keyboard than the stock Samsung one? I use Swype, and when I connect the keyboard, it acts strangely until I switch it to the Samsung keyboard (search+space on hardware keyboard).

I logged a problem with Samsung. It is a bug in their stock keyboard which you need to use for s-pen functions. They don't seem to be planning to do anything to fix the issue. Using an alternate soft keyboard for when an external keyboard is in use was my only solution
Make sure you all formally lodge the problem with Samsung support.

Ok.. So I downloaded swiftkey app but the problem now is that for some reason I wasn't able to add two languages under this keyboard app for the physical keyboard settings.
Under the physical keyboard settings in samsung I have now 3 languages:
1. samsung keyboard - Hebrew
2. samsung keyboard - English
3. Swiftkey - Hebrew
I want to add Swiftkey - English but wasn't able to do so...
anyone who is using swiftkey with two languages and with physical keyboard?
Nowadays you can see technology will upgrade day by day. If you have this keyboard problem on your tablet, then you should try latest OSU tablet for your work.

I use SwiftKey a lot and I like it
I found that a keyboard clipkey is a keyboard I would like to use sometimes when I do certain things where sending pre defined phrases to send.
Im looking for a way to quickly change between ClipKey and SwiftKey

Every android keyboard that you install and setup in the global input setting menu(input/language mostly) is active and you just need to use the keyboard switch on the top left of your status bar or if you have a nav bar where virtual keys appear you can set the keyboard switch button there.
That's it.
