So this is probably a stupid question, but I figure it's worth a shot.
I've been running KaosFroyo on my Eris for a while now (fantastic ROM), but every time CM gets a major update I still check to see if it supports the Eris yet.
With CM6 came support for the HTC Hero, and I'm wondering if this means that CM6 will run on my Eris. I know the CM Wiki page for the Eris doesn't list official support, but to my knowledge, the Hero and the Eris are the exact same phone, save for the outer casing and the firmware it comes with. So does this mean that if I tried to just flash CM6 to my Eris, it would work?

hellll no. for one thing the hero uses a differend network than us, plus its got a few differences from the eris. if you tried that you would either get a failure in recovery or you would get a brick
It would probably be a very nice shiny brick

Conap's CELB is a pure CM6 port for the Eris. The newest update, 2.8, is excellent.

I have been at this for weeks now. I rooted my droid eris and love that I did, but for the life of me I cannot decide on which rom to use and stick with. I have tried nonsensikal, kaos, tazz, and celb. I just want one where I will have great battery life. I was wondering if I can get some advice on which ones you all think are the best. I know kaos is the most popular or so it seems. I keep going back and forth on this as I type I am flashing nonsensikal 9.0 and probably will switch again later unless I get advice.
Thank you for any help.
I use KaosFroyo, but I've tried out several and like most of them. You really won't find a bad ROM here; it's more of a personal preference...the way it looks and feels to you.
Keep an eye on KaosLegendary as it progresses. If you like sense, that one's going to be badass.
Since all of the ROMS you mentioned are built from CyanogenMod source, they will likely all have similar battery life... I'm not sure anyone can tell you one ROM is better than another, but I can give you my opinion- I have had the best experience with CELB's flavor of Froyo.
+1 for Celeb.
Not that the others are bad, all of them are great. Celeb seems to run a bit smoother.
That said keep an eye on Kaos-Legendary I think it will be great once some of the kinks are worked out.
I am like you.
I started out with Kaoys
I think went to Tazz
I am now on Nonsenikal.
I moved from Kaoys after I saw somethings that Tazz was doing but I started not to like the red keyboard with some of those releases and I didn't get into flashing a new keyboard which took me back to Kaoys........but then i found Nonsensikal at 8.2 and then 8.8 and now 9 and I am stuck with them for now.
I have the latest Tazz and Latest Kaoys on my phone just in case. I also have the Flashback 15 V1 just in case I need to take back to verizon for some odd reason and that works too
As has been stated, it's hard to tell you which is the best for you. You've tried them, you are the one who needs to decide. I like Kaos ROM it's been stable, many updates, many users, which helps when you have a question. It also is the first one i tried back on version 17.
They are all good, for sure. You just have to try them all bro, you can always switch... right? lmao
But, I suggest Tazz or Celb only because I really like those guys personally
Make it easy on yourself. Use the rock solid 2.1 XTR (with or without sense) from Zach as your default rom. When you are bored and wanna play, rotate among the Froyo roms. If there was a benchmark for Eris roms, I think XTR wins the prize. The Froyo roms are progressing nicely, but none of them have achieved benchmark status. (yet)
So adopt the best and play with the rest

If you mean quadrant score, XTR actually gets lower because its a 2.1 rom. But those mean nothing on the Eris, so yes XTR is the best way to go. I recommend doing XTRSense because it comes with XTRom and you can always download LauncherPro or something, flash openGL. and there ya go, both roms in one
If you are looking for froyo sensless rom i would definitely go with shadowrom. if you want sense based 2.1 than XTRsense. As far as quadrant scores i had highest with shadowrom.
I'm still running evil eris 3.0 and probably will upgrade to evil eris 4.0. personally i like evil eris the most out of any of the roms. i have apps2sd and over clocked at 768mhz with out any issues. hasn't given me one problem yet and by far one rom that has zero problems. Every other rom i've tried has some sort of issue. with froyo rom's it's ether the speaker jack not working or some odd issue which sucks. i hate if something doesn't work right so that's why i'm still running evil eris 3.0.
Thank you for all the suggestions so far. I went back to tazz 12 the pink theme because I liked how it was more girly since I am a girl. However I should of mentioned I wanted to be able to make whichever rom I chose more personal and the only changes I could see that you can make on any of them so far is the color of the clock and battery percentage. If there is more I can customize please let me know.
Another question I had was there was one theme I fell in love with but I dont know how to put it put it on my eris since it was made for regular droid. Is there any advice about doing that?
Thank you for any help. Im still really new to this.
Evil Eris is a dead project as far as I know. There's a cyborg rom that's very stable since it's based of the latest ruu.
As for froyo I'm a fan of Kaos or Tazz ROMs. I also huge fan of the built in tether and apps2sd in froyo.

I have tried NonSensikal, Tazz, and CELB. And to be honest, they are all very similar. I swore by NonSensikal when I started then tried out Tazz because of an issue I was having with my phone. Then I can't even remember why but I decided to try CELB 2.9 and it was great too. I've switch off of it for a couple days back to NonSensikal 8.8 but was having email issues and went back. To be honest I love the fact that I can switch ROMs as much as I want. I like to tinker and try new things. I've even flashed Kaos Legendary and it definitely going to be one I keep an eye on. All I'm saying is experiment if you want and enjoy. If not just flash one and stick with it. I've had no problems on CELB 3.0.
+1 xtrsense or xtrrom!
I know there's a theming app but I never used it si can't remember the name. I pretty much stick to the way a rom comes except for boot animation and keyboard.

TaintedTenzo works the best for me
I have been on NonSensikal for a few updates now and it is pretty stable. I honestly can't tell you that it is any better than the others. Kaos, Conap, Tazz, and Listy are all awesome developers and most (or all) seem to openly share ideas and bug fixes. It's all about your personal preference.
As far as battery life goes, ever thought of just getting more batteries? I bought two extras with an external battery charger off of ebay for pretty cheap. I keep my setcpu profiles set higher than most to get the best performance and change the battery whenever it gets low. Now, if I was a girl, this would be even more convenient seeing as most of you carry purses with everything but the kitchen sink in them anyway.
As far as themes go, check the apps and theme section of XDA. Even if a theme was made for a particular Froyo rom, it SHOULD work on all of them. Make a nandroid and morph or flash away.

well long story shot she has a stock eris and is frustrated with it as many of us were befire discovering the magic of root and custom roms. my question is, for someone who isnt interested in too much besides having a faster phone, should i go the cyanogen froyo route or put xtrsense on her phone so its familiar? im having a tough time with this because all the froyo roms, as well as xtrsense are incredible. id probably go with either froshedyo or celb if i went that route.
My 1st rom was xtrsense and liked it. Then xtrtenzomix which was better (very similar). Then I flashed tenzo2.2.1 with conap's v9 kernal, loved it.... best Sense based atom imho. Still keep that one for when GSB 1.2 won't cut it (has flash since it's Sense based).... but GSB is the best I've tried, but much different from what she's used to.

For someone that "just wants their phone to work", I would suggest a 2.1 ROM. They also get the benefit of Flash Player as well in a couple of 2.1 ROMs (including xtrSense, iirc).
The "undead call" bug and the "GPS lost" bug, while infrequent, are still major annoyances - and they pretty much exist in every AOSP, CM, or Froyo ROM.
Update 2/16/2011 - I believe I have figured out the long-standing "undead call" problem, and have provided a fix for it. see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=956091
Update 2/15/2011 - Both Tazz and workshed have GPS working now (from CM7 bugfixes, I presume). AWESOME!
Right now GPS only lasts for a couple of minutes in Gingerbread ROMs (well, GSB v1.2, anyway), so I wouldn't recommend it for a non-techie user at the moment. (Maybe that will change? workshed just dropped a hint he has something coming out).
I always put CELB or FroShedYo on my wife's phone.
She seems happy with it.
I like the vanillas. Clean slate and pick and choose my own theme remix.

xtrSENSE comes overclocked (710/245) out of the box, so you don't even need to do anything to overclock it.
Even though I love the froyo roms. I have to agree with btfb on this. If she just wants it to work id go a 2.1 with flash otherwise she might miss some things with the froyo roms. Just my thoughts though.

I am new to this site, but hope to root and flash both my Inc. and wife's Eris. So the wife has an Eris and it is starting to screw up. When we got the phones I told her it would never be a Ferrari. Two days ago all the icons disappeared and the phone is so slow. She has threatened me with going out and getting an Iphone. My you know what puckered at the mention of that. This brings me to my question. I would like suggestions on a Rom that has sense and is reasonably peppy. Because this is the wife's phone I do not have the luxury of doing trial and error with different Roms. I am just looking for something that is similar to stock but actually works. I take it that I can find all of the instructions for rooting and flashing in the general section. Your feedback is greatly appreciated, my wallet thanks you too!

Froyo ROMs are easily customizable, and there are several options for that in the Themes and Apps forum. Froyo has other improvements - for some, however, the seamless integration of Sense features keeps them with 2.1 instead of upgrading to 2.2 or 2.3. You may want to ask her what she looks for in a phone, and use this priority list to determine which ROM to load (e.g. battery life, speed, looks and customization, stability, etc.)
There are several great Froyo options - I'd recommend FroShedYo. And for Gingerbread, I'd recommend GSB (GingerShedBread).
She texts and does e-mail. What she wants most is speed and battery life. Do any of the roms have problems running regular apps (angry birds, weatherbug, yahoo mail) etc.?

ROM problems with running regular apps seems to be user-specific and not general to a ROM or group of ROMs (i.e. Eclair, Froyo, GB).
For speed and battery life I'd choose either GSB or xtrSENSE. That's just my two cents! You can see from browsing the threads that everyone has their favorites. I've been pleased with the support from the developers of both GSB and xtrSENSE. As I've played with ROMs on my phone I've pulled my wife along (sometimes unwillingly). She's staying with GSB and I'm staying with xtrSENSE.
Happy hunting!

First, I +1 xtrSENSE. It just works, and works extremely well.
Second, the difference is that xtrSENSE is very much based on the most recent March OTA official release, which is based on Android 2.1 (Eclair). zach.xtr has customized it so that it overclocks, underclocks, has more internal memory for apps, and more.
All those features are available to Froyo (2.2) and Gingerbread (2.3) ROMs except that they are usually based on CyanogenMod, either v6 which is Froyo-based or v7 which is Gingerbread-based. While CyanogenMod is great, and includes all sorts of bells and whistles beyond even the improvements of Froyo and Gingerbread alone, there is no Sense UI like on the stock-based ROMs like xtrSENSE.
Sense has some features not available to other ROMs for the Eris. Like Flash Lite, which doesn't matter to me, but it does to some. You might get an idea if you read the top of the first post of the xtrSENSE ROM thread of what else is special about Sense.
CM7 (CyanogenMod v7) isn't final yet, so it's still a work in progress and has bugs or "quirks" plus features being added and de-bugged and changed. I don't mind, and a lot of people don't, because I/we (if I may speak for some others) flash every new update; usually at least one per week if not more often.
That said, CM7 has developed very fast, much faster than it seemed like CM6 did. I assume because they were able to take a lot of what they learned from CM6 and apply it to CM7. I suspect that Gingerbread was less of a drastic change from Froyo than Froyo was from Eclair.
But for flashing someone else's phone who's going to have to rely on it day by day, I'd recommend xtrSENSE.

Ok, here is the deal.
Currently in limbo between carriers and phones....
In the past week, I have used/own a TMobile HTC Glacier (myTouch 4G), an HTC Shooter (EvO 3D), and now a Thunderbolt (wtf is the real name of this?).
On my Glacier, I used evil D's Desire HD port (0.33). Was pure Sense (1.84 I think) and I loved it. No real bloat, no real customizations that wasn't done by me, nothing to irk me. Worked well and didn't break anything.
On my EvO (OG) I used a stock rooted ROM. Once again, worked well and I just uninstalled bloat I didn't want.
On my Shooter I used stock... (cries)
Anyways, I am looking for a pure sense (i liked 1.84 - I dislike 3.0) ROM that has everything working for my nice shiny Thunderbolt. I did read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1081930 and I still don't know which one to go with... I also do not want to flash ROMs left right and center.
P.S. - I don't mind Froyo or GB... but I do want working netflix and skype.
So, does anyone have any ideas for me?
I would try one of the Bamf 2.1 ROMs, there are three different kinds. There's a customizeable one (remix I believe), a non-themed sense one (NTE), and a stripped one which is senseless. The Bamf 2.1 ROMS run on sense 2.1, although a Sense 3.0 ROM is available. They are gingerbread, which is the only way to get netflix working on Thunderbolt, you'd have to flash one of the GB Radios if you wanted service though.
I would suggest one of the theory roms. He offers a suger free version which has much of the sense elements removed. If that's not to your liking there is always cm 7.

So I guess GB is it then, since that is needed for netflix to work. Oh well... Weird it worked on the OG EvO with Froyo...

i like using the BAMF sense 3.0 roms
its currently on rc4
i get about 10-12 hrs of battery life on this rom with imo's leankernel on extreme
and screen state settings on setcpu
The thunderbolt is the Htc mecha, and I suggest cm7 with the mr2 radios if you have reboots on mr1. Great battery life, buttery smooth, and the next release should come with 4g without toggling.

Welcome to the Tbolt. I don't think you can really go wrong with any of the BAMF 2.1 ROMS. They are all stable, smooth and fairly bug free.
All of the devs around here are damn talented though. So you might find yourself flashing more than you thought you would just to get a taste of what they are all doing.
