What beren said. Goto Settings -> Applications -> USB Settings -> Select Kies mode.
You have to unplug the usb cable but your device will tell you that anyway.
Thanks I put it in Kies mode but still doesn't connecting said MTP driver can't install.
The solution
This is the solution I got from http://www.thegalaxytabforum.com/index.php?/topic/504-help-with-kies/
The Tab needs to be in "Kies mode" when connected for Kies to be able to work. To make this possible do this:
Unplug your GTab and go to Settings > Wireless & Network > USB settings
Select "Ask on Connection" -- this is the most flexible option.
When you connnec the GTab select Kies Mode and then click on "Mount" if the Mount button is displayed.
Start Kies if it doesn't start automatically, then it should work.
WARNING: Kies' initialization phase is currently buggy, at least on my 64-bit Windows 7 machines. You may need to click away 20-30 error messages and confirm that the application is allowed to make changes on your computer 10-15 times before it starts. Once the error and confirmation messages have stopped it seems to work OK, however.
Galaxy S + Kies
After a few minutes of trial and error here's what I did to get it working.
1) Wireless and Network -> Kies Mode
2) Applications -> Development -> Disable USB Debugging
3) Go to Home Scren
4) Plug into PC with Kies running, Kies should detect and connect
Today a new update for samsung kies was released.Everything normal till now,i have connected my S3 to PC and a error came up..
Mode unsuported or so ,please enable USB debugging.
Now it remains at Connecting screen...and doesn't go further...
Any idea why samsung would want it's users to connect in debugging mode ??
Here is the full kies message when debugging is not enabled
Reconnect the device in Samsung Kies(PC Studio Mode)
Current connection setting not supported by KIES.
Check the USB settings.
Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Usb debugging (x)
Sorry if it was already posted, couldn't find the thread.
hello , i have a problem with my z2 , it's charging normally from the ac charger , but it does not charge from any pc/laptop , i changed the usb cable several times , i changed the computer , the windows version .
i installed the xperia companion and reinstall it.
and no charge/notification light at all .
i googled the problem and i found that i have to enable developer option and change the usb configuration to msc , i tried to change it but i dont see msc option .
my device is running 23.5.A.0.575
any solution ?
Today I've noticed that usb debugging automatically switch off after closing the developer options page. I enable it and if I go back it switchs off. If I enable it with phone connected all is right but if I unconnect phone from pc it switchs off. There is no way to keep the options enabled. Any tip ?
Thanks
EDIT: if in developer options you reset all settings that usb debug remain enabled until reboot. But if you reboot it's disabled again...
This phone is incredibly mad.... Enabling usb debug with phone connected and rebooting via adb, unplugging cable during boot, the option remain enable if you DON'T open developer options screen. If you do it it disables again.
I don't have words......

Enable the 'allow debugging in charge only mode' and it should fix the problem

You're great !!! All is ok now. Thanks a lot
I have Eedmi note 4 and my USB debugging(Security settings) keeps turning off when i come back from developer settings. My USB debugging is ON but below this there is another option called " USB debugging(Security settings)" which is used for simulating input via usb , and this option keeps turning off.
Is there an option to fix this issue, im on android 7.0 with miui 10.2.3.0 global stable ui.
hi all,
I need to reinstall the firmware on an Archos 101 gen8 tablet. Seemed straightforward but now I'm stuck at the very last step:
1) download "firmware_archos_android_gen8.aos" from Archos homepage -> ok
2) boot into recovery menu -> ok
3) select "Update Firmware" -> ok
4) connect to PC via USB and copy "firmware_archos_android_gen8.aos" to A101IT -> ok
5) press "ok" on the A101IT to start update -> ok
But now I'm stuck: after step 5 the screen just shows "Please connect DC-in to update your device", even though the original power supply is connected. Disconnecting and reconnecting DC-in didn't help, and also an additional USB connection to the PC doesn't change anything. Any idea?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Georg
PS: I just checked the voltage of the power supply. The label says "5V / 2A", but I measure ~6V (without load). Is this normal and could this cause the problem? After all, the supply is almost 10 years old...
SOLVED
turned out that I had plugged the DC-in into the headphone socket! I really should go to bed...
Now everything works again
