[Q] USB Modem Sim into HD2 - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Could you genius's help me advising if I can use my USB Modem Simcard into HD2 to use internet on the go, so that I dont have to carry heavy laptop. If yes, what setting do i need.
BTW its Virgin USB Modem

[Solved]
Oh.. that's really bad to see that no one replied, anyways found the fix... you can use your USB Modem sim card, through this mobile, and make your mobile as wireless router...
works awesome...
NEed help.. reply to this post for further steps...

no one may have replied because people may not have seen it due to the amount of posts, it could have disapeared of the first page quickly.
anyone, glad you found a solution. If i seen it earlier, i would have been able to say that , yes as long as your hd2 is on virgiin network, or its unlocked it would work. 3g modems take normal phone simcards. infact there is no difference between the sim cards except for the plan that is associated with them. you actually hgave a mobile number, the sim card can even be used to make calls and send texts in a phone but ofcoarse you would get charged for it.
I used to have a 3g modem of tmobile, and i would actually swap sim cards when i used my allowance up, as i had unlimited data plan on both phone and modem. now that i have hd2 i canceled my 3g broadband plan and use just my hd2 (as my phone plane has unlimited date subject to fair use policy, which is 3gb)

3 SIM in SPV

Hi All
Has anybody managed to get a 3 (Three network) SIM to work on an Orange SPV after SIM unlocking.
I would like to be able to use my other phone's SIM in the Hermes.
All advice appreciated.
Thanx in advance
Asif
Hermes - The Mother of All Mobiles
yes, it works fine
(uk)
Can you get full HSDPA speeds though?
My 3 SIM in my TyTn won't let me go above GPRS as its not my primary phone. So I'm paying for a service I can't use. I've spoken to their CS who basically said, no sorry, you've got to use that Nokia we sent you as your phone.
My T-Mobile SIM out of my 3G data card for my laptop works like a charm.
Guess which contract I'll be ripping up next month? Clue: its not the T-Mobile one.
I have put in a 3 PAYG SIM card and it worked, but I didn't test any calls.
What does happen though is the roaming triangle icon appears if you turn off 3G, which I guess is right because it's technically roaming on Orange (although the network name still says '3')
apparently most of the networks are distributing new sim cars for use with their 3g networks, and because of the upgrades, older sim cards wont work with newer services. my 3g service in the us wont work with an older US at&t card, and they had to give me a new one. so give 3 a call and ask them for a new sim card. say yours got broken or something, otherwise they may charge you. but ask first if they will give you one free first. good luck

I think your problem might be that the 3 hsdpa service you are on is x series. I have asked in their shops about it, because it seems to be the best 3g deal, but they said its only compatible with a few phones made specifically for x series, eg n73. And it cant be used on other phoens because it is a sort of program embedden in the phones, rather then a homepage like vodafone live, which you can just link to.
Hope i have helped, and correct me if im worng

Never had a 3G connection...I think?

Hey all,
Currently using an unbranded HTC Hero on Orange, unsure if I am getting a 3G connection though, icon wise I constantly have a "G" but unsure if it should show "3G" instead, also seen an "E" a couple of times which I assume is Edge but didn't know Orange supported it.
Just wondering if a 3G icon as such actually exists? If so could it be a setting somewhere I haven't got configured correctly?
Thanks
Russ
Could be 2 things.
You have use only 2G networks checked in the settings
OR
You need a new sim, although the phone supports 3G your sim needs to as well. If you are still using an old sim which was from a non 3G mobile then you need a new one. Contact your provider to ask them for a new one (you will keep your number).
how to REALLY find out whether you are connected with 3G? i mean not just looking for that 3G symbol ;-)

I had to do this a while back, if you have never bought a 3G phone from Orange you probably have a 2G SIM. Call them and they will send you a new one for free.
So I'm right in thinking there should be a 3G icon? I'll get onto them thanks
Well in a very strange turn of events I may actually benefit from this. Having called Orange to ask for a 3G SIM (they confirmed I had 2G) they basically said it wasn't possible to do a straight swap, something about contracts.
After a bit of complaining they have basically come to the conclusion that the only way to help me out is to restart my contract from scratch and send me out a new 3G handset along with the SIM.
So not only will I have my beloved Hero running on 3G I will also have an as yet unspecified 3G handset for sale!
Just waiting for them to call back
And the handset I will be getting...a HTC Touch 3G!
Should fetch a pretty penny
Thats really bull**** why can't they swap your sim card. i had vodafone sim card i lost it and went to vodafone they give me a new sim card directly 5 minuts later it was active. its very weird that they have to give you new contract.
thats ****in crazy! i'd not accept that!
Replacing like for like isn't an issue, it's because I need to "upgrade" the SIM card as such that they have a problem.
Still, works out nicely for me considering I was only 4 months into my contract and have a pretty sweet deal of £15 a month for 200 mins, unlimited txts and 500mb data. So no complaints that I have to restart my contract.

1. Has this situation been occuring since the beginning? I mean , have you ever connected to the network?
2. Is your phone simlocked? If not , I'd suggest you to check if another sim card (preferably another company) works properly. If works , try changing the sim card first.
No Network
Hi,
Im also struggling with the same problem, its most frustrating being without the fundamental function of a mobile phone. Im on O2. It all started when 2.1 updated on my X10, since then my phone doesnt connect to O2 network.
Ive tried removing the sim, cleaning etc. then putting back in.
Tried swapping my sim with a friend (same network), no problem with the sim.
Just tried re-booting my phone (re-updating), no joy.
The last resort i guess before sending it in to O2 is to throw out of the window?
Any ideas?
Thanks
p.s. new HD camera does nothing but 'force close'.
thx for replay
my phone unlocked n and am try another simcard with another company its woks n am check my sim card in another phone its not work
first am got update (change region nomber method) befor 4 days ago n its work with me after update without problem but yesterday am not there is no network
i feel like my sim card banned from virign network so i don't know where is the problem in my sime card or in virgin network but am not feel i have problem in my phone coz its work with another sim card n my sim not work in another phone.

I remember somebody had problems with new iPhone and old original ATT SIM-cards. ATT just gave a new SIM-card - it was a kind of incompability. Maybe you should go to Virgin tech guys and ask them to fix the problem.
I have strange thing with my phone when it was locked - I used old proxy-SIM and it worked fine with 1.6, but after I flashed it up to 2.1 it worked around 16 hours and eventually told me that there is no service - just like yours. Nobody had similar experience, but look like strange things are possible with those really smart phones. After unlocking - no problems for now.

me too i think i have problem with my sim card, am already contacted the service clients but not solution till now !!!!!
i think after update, x10 will made variation of m-voltage which supported to sim cards, so directly burned( if the variation of voltage related with used area of sim-cards ,that's depends on our operators)

I don't think, the X10 can damage SIM-card since SE always targets world market and takes in attention any regional differences. Virgin is not a real carrier, it is a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) and uses Orange network as an underlying carrier. The last resort is to claim that you lost you phone (with the SIM card, of course) and ask for replacement. They can charge you (I used to pay $25 for T-Mobile USA in the nearest dealer shop, but didn't do any research since I needed the phone badly).
There is another possibility - as I know, ATT automatically changes the plan for their subscribers to a data-plan that is obviously more expensive as they recognize the new phone as a smartphone. It is weird practice, but see - it is possible, so be sure what's going on with your carrier.
please help me with network problem
i was trying different roms to flash, it was not good enough for me after with recovery i restore my backup original rom but no network, no signal, the sam problem with other roms, i changed sim cards as well no signal, when i make phone call there is a message ( CALL NOT SENT, PLEASE DIAL AN EMERGENCY NUMBER)
PLEASE HELP ME TO BRING BACK MY PHONE
i think you restore you old rom with wrong Baseband so try to search in xda you find which is the match baseband to ur old rom thats all

HTC Desire X Using home WiFi only (UK)

I cannot see a forum for this phone so I hope this is the correct place.
I've never used a smartphone before & googling this question gets me lots of Americans talking about being hunted down by Verizon for not using their data package. As I'm in the UK most of what they are talking about is irrelevant to my situation.
I would be buying a SimFree phone to use with my trusty old virgin PAYG sim card. It has no data plan. I want to use my sim card for calls but use my router via the Desire X's WiFi at home for the internet like I do with my Nexus 7.
Is this possible? How? Thanks.
PS. Mention US 'carriers' especially Verizon & I will chop you up & feed you to the badgers!

Yes it is entirely possible. Just buy the phone, put your SIM-card in it and disable "Mobile Data". When you first turn the phone on though, make sure that you are at home so you can connect to the wireless network for the Google set-up stuff. Beyond that you can use the phone as a phone when you are out-and-about and as a smart-phone when you are within range of a wireless network.

Firstly apologies for not getting back to this straight away I've been offline.
Secondly thank you very much for that. That is exactly the information I needed. I was really worried it wasn't possible. Thanks for taking the time to respond. :good:

T-MOBILE is BLOCKING my P769 sim from the network. Fix?

Hi!
Rooted with cmahendra's offline Lelus method (and to anyone who's done that, my hat is off to you).
**SHORT VERSION**
Sim goes into the L9. I get bars that show network availability, however I am not able to connect/make/receive phone calls.
**DETAILED VERSION**
Starts like this: I have my CM rooted Aria that works a-ok as far as the network. Phone message memory getting full all the time and incoming texts bounce back, with no way of knowing who sent them. Can't have that, so I buy a stock L9.
Sim works. I want to have Wi-Fi calling, which is the *only* reason I bought the L9. Wi-fi calling is not working: call up T-Mo and they say I need to give a 911 address and all will be well. Ok, done.
Sim works. But no Wi-Fi calling still. Call up T-Mo and they say "Ohhh! you need a "3G-B" (I don't think that stands for gigabyte) sim card" Ohhh and what's your phone model etc etc. I tell them "it's a no-brand phone I got overseas," they don't need to know the model: they didn't with the CM Aria. They're clicking settings on their screen other side of the phone while we're talking: I can feel it.
Sim *stops* working. Need a working phone, so let L9 aside and get a stock T-mo S2. Same issue, cell network not connecting.
Let me show THEM! Ha! I'll unlock it. Unlocked the S2.
Sim still doesn't work.
Put the Sim back in the rooted/unlocked Aria? Network works.
What settings do they have in their stock phones that disallow network connectivity, because in the CyanogenMod Aria I have the phone fully works, GPS, tether, etc etc. In their stock-from-T-Mobile phones, network = nada.
Thank you for reading.

What the heck are you asking? I don't see any understandable questions in your message. I see you blowing off steam.
It does look like T-Mobile cooked your sim. You may need a new one.
Call them again and ask for "Customer Retention" through the automated system. Those people are more knowledgeable. A new sim should be free if they killed it.
Also, a data plan is not required for wifi-calling.
T-Mobile will give you a SIM regardless. They are always free.
I'm not sure as I am unrooted, but most carriers block network access via files in the EFS folder. This folder is VERY delicate. Anything improperly changed here can render a phone useless. If the SIM works in another device, it's not the SIM. Have you tried a different SIM in your phone?
Also, if you're blocked from network access, when you make a call, you should be prompted with, "We're sorry, but this device has been blocked from network access." If you do not get that prompt, then there is something wrong with the phone itself, be it software or hardware.
Looks like the L9 isn't registering in their system. Where did you buy the phone, blacklisted perhaps?
As for fried your sim, why does it still work in the Aria.
As for 3G-B, you probably need a newer sim, others call it a 4G sim... They should send you one free or pick one up free at a local tmo..
Thanks so far folks...

You hit the nail on the head exactly clockcycle, it's not registering. Something *in* the phone is not letting it connect, because my sim works successfully in any and every other unlocked phone I have, blackberrys, GMS world phones, the rooted Aria, but in the two "newer-released phones-- the L9 and the S2-- it doesn't work.
Phones are legit. Craigslist and brand new. Worked perfectly until calling T-Mobile for "support". The sim is fine and the goal is to keep it and not get a new one. It works.
My strong guess is that if I put a different rom that is *not* stock, the phone will work fine. It worked fine in the beginning, until I called them to address the wi-fi calling issue and they started poking around in my account, asking questions and clicking on things. I didn't want to address the wifi-calling issue too much because we could go off on a tangent.
You're right kevev, it didn't look like there was a 100% clear question. A lot of story though, to make sure there aren't 50 posts of did you do this and id you do that. A full story gives everyone the most info they need to understand the situation instead of "yo! my phone is not connecting!" which we see sometimes .
So the more clear question is:
"I am experiencing carrier settings *in* my L9 that are blocking me from connecting fully to the network on a perfectly fine sim card, how can I get around these settings and what/where are they."
I think tribalartgod understands what I'm getting at most completely. The inside-the-phone-settings. When the sim is in the phone I have bars, but when going to make a call the screen message is "emegency only". Can't try different sims in the L9 because of the need to cut the sim down. Also the L9 is not unlocked, just rooted. My guess is a de-bloatwared rom is the fix. Looking for answers from people more knowledgeable than me which is most likely all of you. Thanks again!
Craigslist, new, boxed, doesn't gurranty they aren't blacklisted.
BUT, the Aria uses a miniSim, the L9 uses a microSim. Did you cut your Sim yourself? It might be misaligned, cut wrong.
It's less than $2 to get it unlocked..
It sounds like its IMEI blocked dude. This can happen with various insurance or installment plan scams, even to brand new devices. There are options to still use the phone, but you are hosed on T-mobile. I have a blacklisted L9 because the previous owner quit paying his EIP, but it's unlocked so I used it on an AT&T MVNO connected to an AT&T MicroCell (I wanted WiFi calling too, but that won't happen with a blacklisted IMEI). Until you've gone to T-Mobile's chat support and ask the if the IMEI is clean, writing long posts in this thread is futile, and it is pretty clear everybody in this thread THINKS they know what they are talking about, but nobody has simply asked T-Mobile about the status of the IMEI, which takes two seconds.
