Swype? Swype?! SWWYYYYYYYYPE!? - Droid Eris Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

sorry for the bad metal gear reference...
Anyways, I am looking for a version of swype that works on eris? All the links I can find are trial expired, or just don't work :/

It's free now. Go to beta.swype.com and set up an account and you can download it.

Search for this file:
Swype_1.60.36.8214_HVGA.apk
its the newest version, possible taken from the droid 2. as long as it says HVGA it will work with the eris. If you are using froyo, you may run into issues... I'm using it on xtrROM 4.0.4 and it is pretty close to perfect aside from an occasional fc that never affects use. Again, it must say HVGA to work with the eris.

I find 1.60 to crash like crazy.
Went back to 1.56.

1.60 is working prefectly fine for me. Never had a FC or any other problem. And I love how its spaced a little more.

Themes and apps?

I'm convinced xtr sense hates swype. I've even wiped and started again. Once a day swype locks up so bad I have to battery pull (I've watched it on ddms). Lame.

you should try ShapeWriter i find it so much easier than swype and more accurate tho its not on the market right now you can search for the apk id search and post but i might have to give credit and stuff and i dont feel like it

Anyone?

i cant get it to work on any rom on eris.
Beta2 just closes. Beta1 worked fine.
I could not find angry birds in the market either but my friend who had an eris was able to download it. I had him email it to me. I tried to install it but I kept getting an error message saying the app did not install... I finally got it to work by downloading a program called "android central sideload wonder machine" on my laptop. All you need to do is connect your phone to the pc make sure usb debugging is enabled and then browse for the .apk and then click go. I was also able to find the app at: talkdroid.com or just google angry birds apk

Just look up android angry birds and its like one of the first links on the page.
I really hope the full version works, supposed to be out this week. I've been through beta1 too many times.

I'm running beta2 just fine. Just used app brain with fast web installer to install it. KFC and Nonsensikal.
I had it working on KF v36, but it won't launch on Tainted Tenzo.
Has anyone had success with a 2.1 rom?
Sent from my Eris using XDA App
Works with xtrsense, beta 1 does anyways.
Sent from my ERIS using XDA App

Got new full app wont install celeb froyo 3.2
Sent from my ERIS using XDA App
Installed fine on TazzFroyo and plays fine except some of the graphics doesn't show up.
How did you install it?
Installed fine through adb on xtrROM 4.6. There is a little whiteout effect with the graphics that i dont think can be fixed. However, after I flashed Conaps new CFS update, tweekt some shiz and ran it straight from the system/app folder, I was dive bombin' pigs with no bog no lag no FC in no time. Even the later levels.

New android market!

Yes, the brand new Market apk that I found on the general apps and games forums is working
It's quite nice I must say (lolWP7ui)
Just install as a normal app.
Make a backup of the original first via Titanium backup just in case!
It is a bit laggy at times though :/
I downloaded the new market this morning from the Samsung Galaxy S2 (I move to that phone in August.) forum and it works good. Like you say, a little laggy, but looks so much better.
I like this.

I usually choose speed over polished GUI. Not this time though.
yes works well looks very nice
I'm probably gonna switch back to the old one...
It's way to laggy q_q
Agreed, looks nice but to laggy on my wildfire however on my Galaxy tab it is fine so good work google! I do like the flicking to switch between different categories similar to the google+ app
Market Looks Gr8...
It looks very nice, and it works fine.
Thanks!
Old (2.3.6) Market for those of you who want to downgrade and didn't make a backup.
(extracted from Ruymanca v7.2 system/app)
I don't seem to have any lag (compared with a Nexus S) unless the images are still loading.
Well yes, that's true, but I still prefer speed over eye candy :/
Link is offline. Can anyone upload it on xda?
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Thank you for that, uploaded as attachment.
@nejc121
Is your version comes from WF (Sense - auto update) or just copied from another source and you did not know at what resolution is? I installed from the other site and works terrible, maybe if we have apk from automatic updates it will work better?
It came from another source.
And I don't think the WF will ever get this market....
It would lag too much.
It is far to laggy and fc every time. I used it. Links good when it worked so went back to old one thanks for the uploaded

Not necessary. Even backup of old one is not necessary.
You can just uninstall the updates for market to get back to the original one anytime.
[Thinking everyone will be flashing the newer market as installing from apk file, and not added to the customrom.zip and flashed].
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA App
Seriously, why is everyone saying this is laggy? Once the images have loaded maybe 4 seconds at the most the market is smooth. Are you not overclocked? I would like to see the effects with JIT enabled too, however I am using a sense based ROM (wilpuzzle).
Don't seem to have any lag loving the new market
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using XDA Premium App
Well I like it! It`s better than the old one. Not as laggy as you said.

Swype beta

Anyone try out the latest beta with dragon dictation? How much better could it actually be? Anyway, would love your thoughts..happy holidays!
http://beta.swype.com/
I quite like the new version - I don't know about the version before it, but the dragon dictation works well and is quite nice, and it's a definite upgrade over the version that comes with our phone by default. A simple backup / deletion of the original APK with Titanium Backup is all you need to do to install the Beta off their website.
Yeah..i don't think ill get it since my current Swype is themed. Just curious how the dictation worked.

Just updated was unaware there was a newer version on the beta available. So I manually updated will play around with the dragon stuff for a while to try it out.
It's not better I actually hate it it's smaller than the stock one and the auto correction sometimes gets annoying

I just did that few days ago. New beta SWYPE is probably a hundred times more accurate/pretty than the stock one that comes with the phone. Haven't tried too much of Dragon dictation but still definitely worth getting it.
I did it twice actually since I just flashed SHOstock ROM.
The first time i followed these directions.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20893638
The second time I just used titanium backup and it worked just as well with no issues.
Good luck.
I haven't had any problems with it. I don't use the dragon feature, but I did test it and it works.
I manually removed the APK the first time, but like the previous poster said, TB also works.
The .so file was versioned, so I left it on there (it won't be used by a newer version anyway, since that will have its own).
Just select Swype in TB and select "Uninstall".
Then install the Swype installer and go from there.
Just keep in mind you'll have to do that anytime you flash a stock ROM that has it included.
If you flash a ROM with integrated swype, without wiping data, swype will crash when you try to use it.
Just go back into TB, uninstall the system version (you'll see two in the list), then select the beta version and "Wipe Data" and that'll fix it.
Thanks for the help guys! In fact I'm writing this post with my new Swype!

Dragon
I used dragon dictation in my car on my way back from work and i was so happy with it. I sent 8 texts and only made 3 errors. Its on par with google's speech to text. It uses very little data too...i only have 200 mb so i have to be careful with stuff like that.
I'm loving the Swype Beta w/Dragon. I use Unnamed 2.2.1 and had no probs at all deleting the old skype with root explorer and downloading the installer. Dragon dictation works great and swype's accuracy seems much better. A+ all around!

Same issue here on any ICS ROM. After searching the Swype forums, there are ALOT of people in this boat. From my reading, it only has this issue on ICS. To paraphrase Nuance's / Swype's response: "The OEMs and carriers are our customers, not you, so get over it. We'll fix it when we feel like it."
Hey ppl. I dont know weather I'm gonna help you with this.
I suggest you use Touch Pal keyboard. Its super fast than Swype and accurate. Its my favorite keyboard. As soon as i flash new ROMs, the first thing i download is TouchPal. Check there demos at the below site.

<remove the spaces>
They use something called Touchpal Curve, Which is much easier than Swype. Which predicts loooooong words really fast.

I find that TouchPal is far less accurate than Swype, plus has some sort of glitterly line instead of just a plain jane line when swyping. Thanks, but no thanks.

You can turn that off in settings.
I'd recommend uninstalling, then cleaning cache, then trying to install swype beta (which supports ICS):

Tried that and it did not work. What worked for me was installing the Swype Beta installer, then installed the Swype apk located here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27247484&postcount=3890
The keyboard installed and I was able to update it to the latest and am using Swype on ICS happily.

You know there is a "trace" keyboard option under language and keyboard in ICS.
Swype HTC Style, just as good.

I know that is an option, but after using it for a while, I wanted to throw my phone against the wall. It's auto word selection is not as good (actually, it's pretty horrible). For example, every time I typed good, the trace keyboard would put god, no matter how many times I fixed it. Swype learns and so the auto selection is uncannily accurate with Swype (almost psychic).
Also, if the auto selection gets it wrong with Swype and I am past the word, I can go back and click the word and it still offers suggestions. The built in one only offers selections for the current word so if I found a mistake, I would have to retype the whole word.
To me, the built in HTC one is a poor man's Swype.
