Attempting to update new Vibrant (Galaxy S) using "Unleash the beast v0.1" - post reboot my XP machine is asking for a "Gadget Serial" driver. I've been looking around for such a beast but not having much success. The phone is displaying a lovely "Do not turn off target!!" error too. Makes me a tad nervous.
Suggestions?
[Solution]
FWIW: This can be fixed by downloading "PC Studio" from Samsung. (This board isn't letting me post the link but you can search on the Samsung main site).
I tried installing that pc studio. Did not work. I have windows vista-64 bit.
Same problem
Hi I'm new in this forum and new to Android also.
I'm having the exact same problem, when I'm trying to flash my phone (AT&T Captivate) back to stock using Odin3 One-Click Downloader my PC is asking me for a Gadget Serial Driver.
I already install ( a few times ) the Phone drivers downloaded from the Samsung site and my PC recognize my phone with no issues. My problem is when I'm in Download mode.
I have a Samsung Captivate rooted with 2.1 update 1 (JH7)
MY PC is running Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3
I will try the PC Studio from Samsung
Problem solved
Problem solved after installing the Samsung PC Studio. Thanks
It did not fix my problem. Is there another fix? Device manager even says that it is "other device" no drivers.
Try installing Keis mini. i had the same problem and that fixed it.

WTF are Samsung up to? Seriously?
I have a Galaxy S2 and i'm stuck on this Gadget driver issue. So I googled, found this thread and started looking. I've now found:
Kies Lite (Samsung site)
Kies 2.0 (Samsung site)
PC Studio 7.blah.blah... (Some driver download site)
PC Studio 3.blah (Samsung site)
NEW PC Studio 1.blah (Samsung site)
Talk about f*&king confused!
Oh and Kies 2.0 never finishes installing, I suspect its in a look as it sticks on "Evaulating Launch Conditions"...
WTF?
Anyone ANY clues on WHICH is the correct software AND version?
please anybody help us
I tried all of the above but nothing working. I tried on 2 different computers. one with
win7 64bit the other with winxp. both had the same problem. the stupid gadget serial
driver.
Try updating your Samsung drivers to the most recent ones:

I totally got it to work for my Galaxy SII
I remember putting my phone into some sort of usb tethering in the setting
so I just unchecked it and the drivers installed themselves
Settings> Wireless And Network > USB Utilities
and just push the connect to PC button and when you put your phone into Download mode the download wizard should install the drivers
Just so you wont switch..

Gadget Serial
None of that worked for me. Doing the following worked for me. Basically you have to tell your pc what kind of driver this "Gadget Serial" is.
Goto "Device Manager".
Find the "Gadget Serial" device.
Right click and choose select update driver.
select "browse my computer for drivers" and then choose "Let me pick the drivers to install".

Hi,
Does somebody know where I can get the drivers in title!!
I have a brand new SGS2 and would like to root the thing. But it's a bit more tricky the my old SGS
In my device manager win7 x64 - I get warning on "CDC serial & SAMSUNG Android"
I have Kies and Android SDK installed and it will still not find the drivers.
Thanks in advance.
have you plugged in the phone while kies is running mine wouldnt install the drivers till i did that.
Its the same for me on one of my computers. It was all done correctly, but no drivers are found. Ive tried repeatedly and have uninstalled and reinstalled Kies but it makes no difference.
Go to Kies directory in Program Files you will find a directory something like "USB Driver"
inside of it there's USB Driver for Galaxy S II, install it.
Problem solved.

maybe this will help someone as well. I had the same problems as you above with these driver not installing. So what i did was the following
installed samsung kies V.2.2.2.11044 with the tel hooked up to the usb and the computer. I did not have USB debugging on in the : settings/applications/usb debug (unchecked)
then I let kies start did not find the drives, so I unhooked the tel. ( galaxy s2) and I enable USB debugging, plugged it in again, started kies and it found all rivers.. NOTE.. it found all drivers but I do not use kies other then to get the drives, I use Odin 1.8.5 which after this , Odin worked just fine.. so you can still upgrade, just without using this Samsung Kies. which sucks anyway
best
This worked for me:
Install kies and open it, connect you phone and let windows attempt to install drivers, then click tools drop down menu and click 'install driver', kies will then download the drivers for the phone.
kies v. 2.0.1.11053_99
Kies -> Tools -> Install driver
XD
it worked!

Kies
I have tried all of the suggestions above except turning on USB debugging. None have worked.
different attempts give me different messages
Installing drivers does nothing.
Sometimes plug in says missing MTP
Sometimes plug in says missing CDC
Sometimes device recognized completely.
All cases, first plug in while kies is running causes kies' "devicemanager.exe" to crash followed by infinite connecting loop.
Any ideas PLEASE PM let me know
Manually install drivers but instead of choosing Samsung MTP drivers choose Mass Storage Drivers.
Update Driver >> Install from PC >> First Browse to the Program Files/Samsung/usb drivers folder then >> I want to choose from PC >> Choose Mass Storag e Driver.
Worked for me just now.
not working
I have tried all solutions from this thread. Still have the CDC error in my device manager on the PC.

Great fix, worked for me. Thank you
I Solved the issue this way::
Issue: Samsung Galaxy SII didn't find driver after kies update.
Solution: Uninstall the old kies completely + Samsung USB Driver..... which is installed.
Delete the files completely from program files to make sure we get everything new during next install... U may need to use a safe mode boot sometimes for a full delete.
Download latest kies from samsung.com to get an original fresh one.
Then do the install.. Plug in phone...
Hi all,
I have the build 2.1.0.11095_121 and I can get my sg2 to be recognised anymore.
I have tried uninstalling and debug and off. No joy.
Does this mean I won't be able to root or load apps on from eclipse?
Any ideas to fix arggghh?
I have tried all above solutions but this what helped me was go to Kies directory -> USB Driver and start setup All problems gone and Kies is running now.
Always the simplest solution is the hardest to find

Go to my 4shard, link in my sig, drivers are in there. (4icon) (its been updated to the newest one as of December 2011)
Thanks Veyka, your file on 4share did the job.
I just got my Galaxy S2 yesterday, and I'm trying to get the appropriate drivers installed on my PC so that I can go about rooting it.
If I just connect my phone to the USB port, I see a new Portable Device, "GT-I9100", and I can browse that to see my phone's filesystem.
But Kies fails to connect to the phone (It just sits there saying "Connecting..."), and if I look in Device Manager I see, under "Other Devices", a device called "CDC Serial", which doesn't have a driver installed.
I've tried un-installing and re-installing Kies which, according to my web searches should install the driver, but it makes no difference.
I understand this driver is a prerequisite for being able to run Odin and root my phone.
I've searched this forum and Googled my question and have yet to find an answer to my problem.
I'm running Win7 64-bit.
Anyone got any ideas?
Did you install Kies on your pc? I had a similar problem yesterday but solved it after downloading Samsung Kies from www.samsung.com and it worked perfectly.
You need to download Kies manually onto your pc in order for Kies on your phone to detect and connect to your PC.
Yes I installed Kies, which is why I mentioned "I've tried un-installing and re-installing Kies"
That was the solution I'd found by Googling, but it had no effect on the problem.
Are you using 64-bit win7? I'm wondering if that's relevant to my problem.
am using Win Vista...
hmm.. sorry mate.. can't really advise u... cause I am just a noob like you.. Lol.. good luck with that~!

I've been facing the exact same problem on my system (Win 7) as well (Thankfully I updated my phone firmware while I was on older version of Kies so Phone is up to date <I'm using the Indian version of the Galaxy S II. PHONE: I9100DDKE4>, however the CDC Serial driver issue started as soon as I updated Kies).
I tried downloading a driver set from the internet for Samsung Galaxy S, - but that didn't work either.
I had earlier updated Kies using the Kies updater itself and thought that might be causing the issue, so, I downloaded the .exe of the new Kies from the Samsung support website and installed it again - unfortunately, this didn't work either and the CDC error remains.
I also tried using different USB ports to connect my phone - again - no luck.
I will try some more troubleshooting once I get home from work and will let you know if anything works out.
In case you are able to figure a way out - please do share the resolution steps.
Tried and failed. Haven't even got Kies on my PC any more. If you are going to root and use custom ROMS then just use Odin. Can't really see any use for Kies.
@davedontmind,
Something simple , but, go into settings/applications/development and make sure usb debugging is UNTICKED. Kies wont connect to the phone if you have it ticked. Also, dont run odin and kies at the same time.

Hmm, I am having Win7 64-bit. I also had the same problem with CDC Serial and Samsung_Android being in the unidentified devices in the device manager. Then I downloaded and installed Kies. After that connected S2 with USB Debugging checked (enabled), the drivers began installing on their own from Windows update. Now I have a 'Samsung Android Phone' as a device and 'Samsung Android ADB Interface' under it.
Hope this helps.
choose reinstall drivers throught kies solved fo me !
I had the same issue, and even choosing to reinstall drivers from within kies didn't work, but if u browse to program files and look for the kies folder there should be a folder called usb drivers with an exe in, run this and all should work fine.

Possible solution CDC Driver and Keis Connecting Spin
I've been fighting with this off and on all today.
I have had no joy with the downloads of the drivers at all (the all seemed to error out on install). I am using Windows 7 (32 and 64 bit).
I found a mention somewhere else about "USB Composite Device" being detected as part of the install chain. Sorry, I can't remember where, but it sent me down a path of thought. They were right, it does get detected.
The KEY thing is that THIS is wrong and it then causes all the other problems I believe.
It should be a "SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device"!
If you change this to correct device (and you might need to make it something else to force it to go to the net and get it) it will then find the others correctly too (although you might have to unplug and plug in a few times).
BTW, CDC becomes a "SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem" and the MTP becomes "GT-I9100".
And then everything is right with the world (and Keis seems to find my phone!!).
And now finally I can go to bed happy .

You dont need to install Keis to get the drivers (win7). As Gavin stated the device will be listed as a USB composite device (under Universal Serial Bus Controllers) , just right click and update drivers on the composite device and it will then change to SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device. Your phone will then be listed as a SAMSUNG Andoid Phone higher up with a subtree giving an adb interface.
Phone in USB debug Mode
Plug in USB
Windows 7 searched for drivers (none found)
Control panel -> device manager
Universal Serial Bus Controllers -> USB Composite device
Right Click -> Update Driver Software (net connection needed)
Do the above step for each USB Composite device if you do not know which one to update.

I can confirm that this works for XP64 with the only change being that "device manager" is under "System". Thanks for giving the obvious (in hindsight) answer. MS had the drivers we needed!!!

Hi all
I have installed Kies and the USB driver from the Samsung site. When i connect my tablet Win XP pings and says hardward found etc, but then the ping sounds again and i get MTP device error detected. The drive does not show up in My Computer Ive tried several drivers from google and none have worked. Tried the install driver option in Kies and same result. I get the yellow icon in device manager saying MTP driver not found. Its very annoying...
Ive read that XP cant support high power devices and patch is being worked on. But wanted to check if anyone knows whats wrong and has a solution please?
Go to samsung website.
Download the Samusung Kies and install it (it includes samsung device usb drivers)
once this is installed you can connect the Tab and it will be recognized as a phone with a USB storage.
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/GT-P7510MAVXAB
go to the software.
and download the Kies for windows.
If that still does not work try downloading the actual total Samsung USB driver installation file found here
"http://down.kr.samsungmobile.com/uploadimg/service/support/download/anycall/sw/SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe"
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
I have been attempting to connect my Galaxy Tab 10.1 to a Windows 7 (64 bit) PC and an OSX (Snow Leopard) Mac Mini to no avail.
I have downloaded every driver I could possibly find, uninstall, restart, install driver, restart and still nothing. I attempted two versions of Kies, even installing the driver through Kies. I have updated the galaxy tab using the August 5th OTA (United States) update but it still refuses to work.
Does anyone have suggestions?
Here try this: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/downloads/GT-P7510MAYXAB
It will provide download links for Kies 2.0 and the proper drivers for both mac and pc. Just click on where it says "software" right next to "manuals" on the website.

This is where I have been downloading the software + drivers.
I also tried uninstalling all AntiVirus programs. I also tried seeing if I could push to device in Eclipse, but no-go.
After spending some time with Samsung Customer Service, they decided to let me send it in for repair. They provide the shipping label (UPS), so I guess it's not that bad.
I'm using Win 7 64 bit and I can't seem to connect via Kies either, I've installed version 2 and the usb drivers and when I plug the Tab in via USB it pops up a 'usb debugging' message.
Surely this is just a software issue and shouldn't require the tab to be sent back to Samsung?
Edit:
I've just got it working, disable USB debugging did the trick. Info found here http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-tab-10-1/373613-galaxy-tab-10-1-cant-connect-kies.html
Any way to use Usb mass storage on a Mac? I can adb push, and use kies, but no USB mass storage.
All of a sudden my Galaxy S2 has started giving me the Error: Hardware ID Missing every time I plug it into my PC
It worked perfectly fine until today.
I have rebooted my PC
I have fully removed and reinstalled Kies
I have restarted the Phone (including removing the battery)
I have factory reset the phone
It does not pick up in Kies either
Phone otherwise works perfectly fine
We have 4 Samsung devices here:
My SGS2
My Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Wifi P5110
My Wifes Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 3G P5100
My Sons Galaxy Pocket
All pick up fine including in Kies except for my SGS2
Hi, got same problem after updated to new firmware. Kies only detected ext memory but not internal memory. Everything was fine before updated.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda premium
ok flashed the firmware back to the current none rooted firmware for my supplier and that has not changed a thing either.
I seem to recall that kies updated itself this morning so it could be a glitch in that.

im guessing you have a windows pc?
samsung put out a driver update for the computer that caused the error.
only way i found to fix the problem is to do a system restore back a few days before the update.
my update was automatic, im going to see if i can stop that update from happening for now..
ic you can call samsung and make them aware like i did...
You can as well forget about kies altogether and your problem is all gone.
BTW I hate that terrible app called kies

It's the fault of outdated Windows Update drivers for our phones.
Correct way of installing drivers if above error is present:
1. Disconnect phone from PC.
2. Uninstall Kies and drivers.
3. Download fresh copy of Kies from Samsung website.
4. Turn off Internet connection on PC <- important! This will force OS to look for drivers on PC first instead of Windows Update.
5. Install Kies, run it.
6. Connect phone to PC and wait for drivers installation.
7. Turn on Internet connection.
8. Done.

The way you've ordered and worded the steps is really vague and does't make much sense, especially since the PC must be connected to the internet to install Kies. I'm also confused as to whether I'm supposed to uninstall the Kies on my phone as well, or leave it be.
EDIT: Retried the installer and everything worked perfectly, just make sure the internet is down before you plug in your device.
If you still have trouble with "Hardware ID Missing" I suggest the following:
1.Install the latest version of Kies.
2.Uninstall only the "SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones".
3.Install the slightly older "SAMSUNG USB Driver for Mobile Phones.exe" version 1.5.6.0 from the from the following link:

Thanks a lot for the solution that was really hard to find. Worked for My Samsung Galaxy Note just in time for the new firmware update
Mine worked for a couple days and now is back again.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Just go into device manager plug the phone in and you should see Samsung drivers appear in usb section just uninstall them restart pc and fixed (you might have to connect your phone a couple of times to re install the right driver after reboot)

i tried and it works but not so well.
the message is gone and i can use MTP to read the contents in the phone and memory card.
but i cannot connect to kies
It just keep connecting and lastly after around 5 - 10 minutes, KIES show "device not responding... please reboot the device."

Are you running Kies along with the Samsung driver suite? Because they don't necessarily play nice together.
