I have an HTC Tattoo .. how can I remove some unnecessary application without rooting the phone..
That's not possible. You need root permission to delete system apps.
how to remove unnecessary application like calculator, google maps, peep, my phone is rooted
You can use an app called titanium backup and uninstall what you want
Sent from my Tattoo using XDA App
Titanium depends on Busybox and for such operations root also required.
2OP: never delete any Google service, otherwise, Market won't work. It has strange dependencies upon Gtalk, Maps, etc.

root explorer or root manager can do this with rooted phone
root explorer go to \system\app\ delete any app apk & delete odex also
if not del take permission
How about some good old Linux!
First, adb remount.
Now enter shell, from ADB, type adb shell. Then,
Code:
ls /system/app
Now you see a list of alle apps on your phone. To remove an app type
rm /system/app/appname.apk
Cheers

So I got got root, after having a long and hard decision, because I soft-bricked my phone yesterday.
Anyway, I got titanium because no other apps were free on Market like Root Manager or Root Explorer.
When I go to Backup/Restore I get a list, but they're not apps, they're stuff like:
Accounts
Application Widgets
Bluetooth Pairings
Country, Language, Time zone
Wi-Fi Access Points
but I want to delete the Avatar, TeleNav, and others.
PS, I've tried searching, didn't help me, so please don't tell me to "SEARCH". OH and I also read the sticky, didn't help x]
Any help is gladly appreciated
Does anybody know how? Please?
I prefer File Manager, it's free and pretty easy to use and delete all the Bloatware. Download it, open it and navigate to My Phone>system>app and look for the apk you want removed.
Is it ASTRO file manager, eFile - File Manager, or just plain "File Manager"?
Oh and what is .odex and .apk? Should I delete both?

.odex is the file before deodexing.
.apk is the output once deodexed.
Yes, delete both.. But I would recommended titanium to uninstall. And there is a link in the sticky that tells you all of the .apks & .odex files you can remove...
Plain File Manager.
Here's a list of safe programs you can remove.
First off all the Standard Apps:
AccountAndSync.apk/odex -> The app in the drawer, not the settings.
AddToHome.apk/odex
AudioPostcard.apk/odex
Avatar.apk/odex -> The app that launches Avatar in the video player.
BuddiesNow.apk/odex
Dlna.apk/odex [Allshare]
FlashPlugin.apk/odex
GoGo.apk/odex
Infoalarm.apk/odex [Daily Briefing]
KindleStub.apk/odex
Layer-samsung.apk/odex
MediaHub.apk/odex
Memo.apk/odex
Mini Diary.apk/odex
MobiTV.apk/odex
MyAccountStub_4-5-10.apk/odex
Myfiles.apk/odex
Sims3_Samsung_Embed_Launcher.apk/odex
slackerradio.apk/odex
Swype-Tips.apk/odex
Telenav.apk/odex
thinkdroid.apk/odex [ThinkFree Office]
vvm-signed.apk/odex -> T-Mobile Visual Voicemail [can be re-downloaded from the market. for some reason that version is the preferred one.]
VoiceRecorder.apk/odex
VoceDialer.apk/odex
Writeandgo.apk/odex
TouchwizWidgets:
Day.apk/odex
DualClock.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_Calenderclock.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_Feedandupdate.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_stockclock.apk/odex
SamsungWidget_Weatherclock.apk/odex

Oh and when I use file manager and try to delete it says insufficient privilege or something like that
Oh and it didn't ask for root powers even though I already rooted and have the superuser app
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Anybody know how to force root permission? When I try to delete it says permission insufficient.

Open SU and see if you accidentally denied it. If so click it if not then reboot your phone and open Ti again. That should prompt SU.

In titanium click the button that says "problems?" It will download the newest busy box and that solved the problem for me

HI, and first of all, wanna give a head's up and mention that I'm relatively new to the Droid world...
I have installed MiniCM7Pro over a stock kernel, but my question is, how can I remove the DSP Manager that comes along the rom?
Btw, how can we replace, for instance, the contacts app with GO Contacts?
Thanks in advance!
You can remove dps with titanium backup, search for it on market its a free apk, and I think you can replace the contact apk without problems
Well, Titanium didn't uninstalled DSP Manager, thru that force uninstall option... so, still listening to more ideas...

try using flash tool. post number 8 is how you can uninstall system apps
Flastool Guide
hit thanks to the op and devs if it helped you
Thats strange cause everytime I update my minicm rom I delete dsp with tb. You can other way, with root explorer apk, go to system/app & just delete dsp, then reboot your phone and voila
Use Link2SD
Link2SD is an app with the basic purpose of moving apps from phone memory to an ext partition on SD card. But apart from that, the app can also manage applications, like uninstalling and freezing them.
I use Link2SD only to uninstall or freeze system apps. Its the free, clean and quick way of doing it...

dsp manager can be uninstalled with root explorer. Search in system/app for the app, and in data/data for the data folder corresponding to it (I don't remember it's name, but is like com-dspmanager-something ) and delete both files, then reboot.
About go contacts, phone.apk can be uninstalled in the same way, but is under your own risk. Anyways, keep a backup of your files
works perfectly with root explorer thanks!
For some strange reason, Root Explorer didnt work for me. I had to use Terminal Emulator
(Pre-installed or from the Play Store)
Code:
su (ENTER)
mount -o remount rw /system (ENTER)
rm system/app/DSPManager.apk (ENTER)
That method worked fine for me...
But sometimes, a simple reboot and then using root explorer also worked

remove them manually, use root explorer or similar, and go to system/app and delete de apk directly from there.

did you change the permissions for apk
Please don't do that. Here is the reason - In the Android manifest.XML, there are many permissions which are required by the app. Some special permissions are granted only to system apps. Normal apps cannot have those permissions. So, when you move the system app to data/app you are trying to convert a system app to a normal app. Hence it will never work. However there are a few system apps which can be safely converted to normal apps like the pre loaded Facebook app etc.

Do "All" the bloatware come under this category too?
Regards

Hmmm.....tell us which system apps you want to move to data/app????
there only a few system app that can be move without having problem while using it....the best choice to move it is to use System Cleanup....it can move system app to data/app, delete system app, freeze app or disable autorun in app....you can view which system app can be deleted...those can be deleted also can be move to data/app....
I am a buddin dev.
What is the use of data/app folder? And, how is is different from system/app? :cyclops:
Data/app is the location for user apps...mainly the ones you get from the play store, apps in that directory can easily be uninstalled by the user through the settings/app manager
System/apps are system apps, they are fairly permanent...only way to uninstall them is with titanium back up, a root explorer or some other system app uninstaller...either way you go root is required to uninstall them
