[Q] Car stereo handsfree - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all.
I have just bought a second hand HD2, and LOVE IT so far!
In my car I have a little box plugged into the stereo with a 3.5 headphone socket on the end, which makes my car stereo think that there is a CD changer installed, which I used to run my iPhone on.
This used to double up as a handsfree, and I could have a conversation through the stereo and iPhone, then put the music back on without changing any leads or settings etc.
This isn't happening on the HD2
Is there a way I can get back to doing this???
Would be a major blow if I couldn't, as I travel allot and use both the music and phone allot in the car.
Cheers

play mp3's in the car

Hi. im using a car kit that connects the cassete to a 3.5mm jack and a converter to a 2.5mm jack to my MDA. I hate the quality of the sound. I have to turn the music up way up. almost near maximum both in the phone and the car stereo. Is there any way that I can hook my MDA to my car to play mp3's without diminished quality??? id really appreciate any help.
thanks in advance
Bryan
What software are you playing the files with? Use GSPlayer or TCPMP over the built in WMP (the sound quality is far greater with those programs).
yeah im using wm5... i dont think it has anything to do with the software. im thinkin it has something to do with the headset jack bein 2.5mm. i own an n-gage too and it has the same kind of jack. same kind of results. really poor quality. but when you use the earphones/headphones, the quality is really good. can someone confirm this?
well things seem to be going well for me today. fixed 2 problems with my MDA today
anyway, figured out the loss of quality when i hooked my MDA to with a cassette adapter and a 2.5mm to 3.5mm jack was not because of any of the accessory defect and not a phone defect... it all trailed back the my cassette player in the car. figures tho... the tape deck probably has never been used in 6 years
just cleaned it up with a cassette cleaner... TADA! clear music. although i need to run it a couple more time theres some interference going on. probably needs more cleaning. cheers!

What kind of car radio do you have??
Sometimes (also with the older car hifi) on the back you have an IP bus or some connector to the cd changer.
You can buy connectors (ebay) brom this ipbus to the 2,5 jack (or3,5)
I have my pioneer ipbus directly connected to my Magician. Works perfect with no loss of quality
I had trouble finding a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter that worked reliably, so this is what I did.
I bought a Globalsat GBH-820 BT adapter, which supports A2DP and AVRCP, and has a 3.5mm jack. So, I just plug in the 3.5mm plug from my cassette adapter, activate the "Wireless Stereo" profile for the GBH-820, and viola, music in my car from my 8125!
The sound quality is better using TCPMP, since I can use the equalizer to add bass and cut out some high-end hiss. However, the AVRCP functions don't work with TCPMP. They do work with WMP.
Is the quality as good as a CD player, or even using actual cassettes, would be? Probably not, but it's nicer having a wider range of music available to listen to in the car, and not having to tote CDs or tapes around in the car. And, makes it a little easier to keep hanging on to my 10yr old Q45 for another couple of years.

i have a stock car radio. hmmm i actually thought about that. but i was thinkin, it would be kinda messy to install that by myself? i mean wires all over the place. i kinda want to keep my car as clean lookin as possible. i was actually thinkin of letting a professional do it for me instead, but i see negatives from it.
1. gotta pay about $100 for installation or so. plus the converter. (vs $20 at most for the casette deck adapter. just borrowed what my bro uses for his ipod)
2. wouldnt that mean that i'll lose the function of my cd changer? i know i wouldnt actually need it once i got it running but then again, it still would be nice to have one.
and 2 good things:
1, better quality
2. more space in my glove compartment. cd changer is located there.
i got question tho. since you replaced the cd changer, when you play music, do you play music through the cd option?
I saw this the other day at a local car audio store. I hear it works great. It's a bluetooth Pioneer deck. Here is the link.

It depends what type of car you have, but you can tap directly into the AUX of your car and transfer audio through headphone jack.
I did it on TL http://www.fperkins.com/AudioinputandAudiovox6600installina2006AcuraTL.html
Why not use an FM transmitter device?
I currently use this: http://www.the-gadgeteer.com/review/irock_wireless_music_adapter_review
Works great.

Do you have to use a 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter? If so, which one do you use?
Yep I use an adapter I picked up at Radio Shack.

TyTN x Sony Crossover!. Solution to the lack of audio port!

Just a bit of whining here...
The TyTN seems fine after a month of use but the headset issue is blowing my mind. I want to listen to the music and talk on the phone with some quality headsets.
First the supplied headset is a non standard USB, you cannot use your own headphones or connect to speaker inputs. Bluetooth stereo headsets are available but I believe that they are still too bulky and the technology is not yet fully developed.
You can't charge the phone while using the headset. This is just dumb, Very dumb.
Needless to say the quality of the supplied headset is not good, it is not even recognized by the phone as headset when you connect it. If you connect it to your phone while the phone is non silent, the phone still rings and not just your headset.
I have no idea why HTC is doing this, the TyTN is a relatively large device and it doesnt make sense that there are no spaces for a 2.5mm plug where you can buy all kidns of aftermarket wired headsets for it. Even the high end headset makers SHURE make headsets with the 2.5mm...
Finally I've made a move. TyTN X Sony Crossover Custom Headphones.
I've used a solder to remove the original earbuds wire and soldered a pair of cut SONY MDR-EX71SL headphones on. They sound 100 times better than the stock ones. This will ease my frustrations for now. I was tempted to solder my MDR-EX90LP on but they are $100 a pair. Too much for now
Later on I will try to rework the stock mini USB headphone and make a 2.5mm connector for it so I can use all kinds of headphones(with mic) and connect to a speaker system as I want!
EDIT: It appears that the original mini USB headset has 6 wires, 4 should be for the headphones and the remaining 2 for the mic, I can simply cut up the wire right after the mini USB port and connect the 6 wires to a standard cell phone headset 2.5mm connector then I should be able to connect the TyTN to all kinds of headsets![/img]
Arent you essentially doin this? http://www.4winmobile.com/tutorial-replace-hermes-headset-connector-with-35mm-socket-vt3146.html as seen in another post, seems like the most universal way to solve the problem.
I do like the way you built a set without a plug, cleaner..less cord and weight, but I know myself, I go through a pair of headphones about every 2 months on my mp3 player, Id hate to have to redo the soldering everytime, I expect with the headphones being such an issue for most peple that the market will be flodded in a month or so with headphones for the tytn, or atleast adapters, shoot, the one guy in the above url even offered to do it for free, as long as you bought the plug.
is there still no adaptor available to buy?
i just do this way........
can swap any earpiece....

@crash74
Looks very good, even more solid than the other solution, but how do you open the unit to reach the print, is their any trick?!
Can i also use the new connection as a line-out for little active stereo boxes, or is this to tricky for TyTn/boxes?
worked like a dream i have no more crapy hissing inbetween tracks and now i can play my song thu my hi-fi that 1 to the modders and 0 to htc
Adapter usb to 3.5 jack
Go to semsons.com, they have the adapter
qing84, I have the same headphones as u=) firstly I solve this problem like you, but I smash the small "black box"=) with mic and volume control, and i was need connect my mdr-ex71 directly to TyTN without "black box"=(
I was glad that i did it, because sound became much more louder, and more clean...

Bluetooth AD2P receiver for home-stereo

I'm looking into a bluetooth receiver to connect to my home stereo in order to be able to stream music from my touch hd. Been looking for a good page with comparisons between the different models, but with no luck. Anyone of you done any research into this? Sound quality is often overlooked in the reviews I've seen, which I find a bit weird, since it is a quite important factor for me. I mean, I realize that in going wireless you have to expect some loss of quality, but recently in a wifi-store I noticed they were streaming audio from an iphone, and the quality was really amazing. Too bad I didn't have time to find a clerk and ask what type of receiver they were using.'
Anyway, I would appreciate any kind of advice in this matter! Thanks in advance.
I guess you mean you connect a BT receiver on the stereo and streams from the HD to the stereo by BT? Ive been thinking of this myself, very interesting! The HD is a bit of a pain in the arse sometimes, when I connect my HD to my stereo I just have touch it a little bit and the phone starts playing on its speakers, the combined 3,5 Headphonejack / Headset connector is very sensitive. Is it this sensitive on other phones?
i have the sony ericsson mbr 100 bluetooth receiver and it works like a charm

Offtopic but i'll andswer anyway. My hero is fine with some headphone jacks but not others, usually the cheap cables/headphones cause the problems.
I use and app called Be Quiet for when a headphone jack does suddenly get pulled out, the media volume automatically drops to 0 (Poweramp and probably others already have this as a feature). When you plug the hedphones back in you have to remember to turn the volume back up however.
i don't know if you are still looking for it:
i use a plantronic pulsar 260. Bought it a couple of phones ago. still working. The product is discontinued by now. maybe they have a newer model.
you can read info here:

[Q] Voice-calls over aux out in active car charger

I recently purchased the official Samsung Active Holder for my SGS2. Nicely routed the charging cable, then bought a kit to hook up the aux-out of the SGS2-charger to my radio. NICE! Music from my SGS2 through my radio while in the charger! Navigation-instructions as well!
Problem: Voicecalls still play through the phone-speaker :-( (can't hear a damn thing of what the other is saying when going 150 eehrmz 100 Km/h)
Searched somehwat, and several people reported this for several phones, however it seems the problems/solutions are phone-specific as well.
Does anyone know how to get the phonecalls routed through the AUX-out of the charger as well, just like all other audio of the phone?
Does your car have Bluetooth? If so then pair your phone, use bt for voice calls and aux for the rest.
Not sure if Bluetooth affects what happens through aux though...

Unfortunately: No. Used a special box to emulate a cd-charger on my old Renault Tunerlist radio, to get a double tulip in... Bluetooth was just one leap too far ;-)
Ah, I guess I'm just too spoiled with my car's A2DP streaming audio
Maybe you can get one of these?
http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-HF800-Bluetooth-Portable-Speaker/dp/B0002F7I9E
Or something like that. Pair your phone, slap it on your visor and use that for calls.
That one's just an example, there's a huge selection of these bluetooth car speakers.

[Q] Question about hands free in the car.

Hi there. On my previous Galaxy S I simply had a holder for my car (no electronics) and used the phone's hands free capability whenever I wanted to speak to someone. It was fairly quiet though especially when driving around.
Now that I have a Galaxy S3 with an unlimited data plan I've started using Google Music for my music (instead of my iPod) through the headphone socket into the car stereo. This works fantastically!! I'm also able to get navigation instructions through there too. But when I try to speak to somebody (and I can hear them through the car stereo which is what I wanted), they can barely hear me, unless I pull the headphone jack out of the phone. At which point obviously I go back to using the phone's too-quiet speakerphone.
Is there anyway to have the phone's audio out through the headphone socket and have the mic work? Or maybe get an external mic somehow?
I've also recently bought an Infuse car dock as it's been reported that the S3 fits this perfectly. This provides usb charging and audio out through the dock, however it seems that it's for music/nav only... calls can't be routed through.
Any ways around this? How do you guys do your hands free in the car?
Thanks!
bumpity bump.
i have kind of the same issue....i got teh infuse dock and i have bluetooth handsfree in the car...seems i cant get the audio through the dock while connected to the bluetooth...and if i have it only on the dock sound the mic because it sits when the phone connects to the dock it muffles the sound pickup from us....be great if there was some way to have it all calls through bluetooth and music through the dock!!!
but dont know if thats possible...
also i downloaded "dock sound redirector" which puts calls&Music through the dock DarrenCarnall. if that helps you at all.

I have similar problem.
Phone audio connected to hands free car system and media audio connected to the car radio using a2dp to aux converter.
When i use (stream) the media audio output (internet radio or navigation instructions) the hands free connection drops.
This means, hands free disconnection occurs when streaming music or voice trough the audio media output.
Before i had the HTC one x and there was no problem.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards from France
